Disabling the Delete Selection Wizard in text messages on Gingerbread Sense - HTC Inspire 4G

In both CoreDroid and Android Revolution (and I suspect other builds based off of the Gingerbread Sense) there is, what I must assume, a new feature in which holding down the backspace/delete button while texting opens up a 'Delete Selection' panel in which you can delete select, or all, text messages within a thread of texts to a particular person or group of people. In the past, holding down the backspace would first delete individual characters then increase to individual words, a feature I had grown quite accustomed too.
My question is whether there is a way to disable this new feature. This feature appears redundant because you can also go into the settings of the messaging application and configure it to delete text messages after a certain amount or certain time. In many cases I find that when deleting a word that has word filtered incorrectly, I more often than not trigger this delete selection wizard, in which selecting the cancel button sometimes does not properly close the wizard.

I don't know about Coredroid as I only had it installed for a couple of hours one day, but I was running Android Revolution 4G 3.2 for the last week or so (since it was released) and have not had this issue. I flashed Android Revolution HD 4.0 b4 a few hours ago and am not seeing this problem either, I'm able to backspace without a problem.
That said, I use Handcent for SMS/MMS, and the Sense keyboard. Are you using stock messaging app, ChompSMS, different keyboard?
Edit: I can backspace in the stock messaging app with no problems as well.
Maybe posting in the ROM's thread will produce other users who are having the same issue.
Do you do full wipes before flashing? There's a FullWipe 1.3 tool around here somewhere that reportedly does a better wipe than using CWM's tools...I don't know if there's any validity in that or not but that's what I've been using

I have written a question regarding this in Android Revolution's thread, but since this happened in both Android Revolution and CoreDroid's gingerbread ROMs, I assumed it was a new feature that HTC was testing out in their build, since I did not have this problem in Froyo Sense.
And to answer the previous question, I am using the stock keyboard and stock messaging application.
Edit: It does appear to be a bug more so than a feature. It would seem only after a quick succession of typing, (as in several words), immediately hitting the backspace seems to be the only way I can reproduce the problem. It would appear if I try to force the situation, it deletes like it should. Perhaps I am typing too quickly when sending a message in gingerbread?

I have figured out the problem, and have discovered how one can successfully emulate the issue I am having with Gingerbread Sense.
Most likely due to the speed in which I text, my right thumb seems to shift so that when I think I am pressing delete, it is instead pressing the button that moves the cursor in the right direction (the button with the arrow pointing right). When the cursor at the end of the string of text, it tries to close the horizontal keyboard. If you are fast enough, before the horizontal keyboard closes, if you immediately press the delete/backspace button, the phone then opens the Delete Selection window!
So my question is, can we disable the shortcut in the keyboard that does this, or at least disable the command that causes the keyboard to close when you try to move the cursor further right than it can go?

Contacts, Performance Issues

This may be a stupid question and it may be because I'm running a custom ROM (NATF 4.2 if I recall)
When you are on the Phone Screen there's no button, menu option to bring up your Contacts List! Did I miss it?
When scrolling through the Call History, the entries overlap making it unreadable until you scroll up.
This may be because it is a phone and not a PC, as I had this issue on my Tilt, but this phone seems to be really slow sometimes. The main nuisance is when you slide the keyboard out, sometimes it takes forever for the screen orientation to change. Lots of lag starting apps. But hey, how much processor power can you get in a phone anyway? Got to live with it until they make better/faster chips. But the lag when sliding the keyboard out is killing me.

The newer ROMs should be some speed increases since they're built on the newer base.
I would try NATF 4.4 or the new 4.5 if you like his ROMs. 4.4 was very quick for me when I used it.
How many contacts do you have? I have about 100 and I've never had a problem.
My main question is where the heck is the button or menu option on the phone screen to bring up the contact list? I must be missing something as that is probably the most useful thing you would want to do on the phone screen.
I was reading posts on 4.5 and it appears to have a few significant bugs. I think I may wait for 4.6, or if 4.4 has less bugs maybe go with that?

Wing texting keyboard slide out help

Sorry if this has already been posted but I did not find it. I have a question about the keyboard. I mainly use my phone for text messaging. However many of these ROMs have a problem with a lag when sliding out the keyboard. I get a new message and hit reply and it takes up to 10 seconds for me to be able to type my text with the slide out keyboard. I have tried numerous different ROMs with differing amounts of free memory but every one seems to have this lag. I'm not sure if this is my phone or what. It even did this with the JUSTME ROM that was stripped to the bare minimum. If someone could tell me how to fix this issue or point me in the direction of a ROM that doesn't have this problem, it would be greatly appreciated.
I've had a similar problem with a few of the ROMs out there. The keyboard has nothing to do with the lag in my place though... it's all a matter of how I go about replying.
If I get a message and hit "Reply" I find myself waiting impatiently for the program to load and the app to become responsive enough for me to type my reply. I found a while ago that if I launch the messaging app either through the Programs screen, via the Start Menu or by pressing the messaging button on the side (this is what I usually do) that the program opens quickly and I can get in and open the message and reply pretty quickly.
It's not a fix, but I hope it helps.
I don't do a lot of texting, but I don't think I've had the issue with the JustStable ROM at all... might be worth taking a look at too.
I found that if I limited the apps on the Today screen in 6 and 6.1 to 3 apps (messaging, calander, and time/date) my screen switched very fast when I flipped out the keyboard.

[Q] Editing text in AOSP browser is a nightmare?

Okay, I'm on bruce's latest CM10 Build and I'm having an extremely hard time typing in the browser, and it almost seems this is the case with any browser. Selecting one block of text highlights a totally different one, pasting text at the end somehow ends up in the middle of the text, the cursor jumps sporadically while typing, so I might end up typing inside a block of text out of nowhere (and swiping with SwiftKey Flow... Forget about it), characters get deleted at random, it's just a horrifying experience, and I know damn well it was never always like this (then again, I also know it was far from perfect, too). Has anyone had these terrifying expereinces? If not, what ROM are you on?

[Q] Stock Keyboard Issue

Both my wife and I have the SG3 and we both use the stock Samsung Keyboard (because we like using Google voice). Within the last couple days, both of our phones were updated to 4.1.2. These phones are not rooted or anything else like that. The issue I have noticed is that when I type text (SMS, Email, etc) if I backspace and select a spell corrected word, then all of my text gets replaced.
Example... If I type the sentence "This is a teat sentence" and backspace all the way back to the last "t" of teat (just behind it), I will get the suggestion to replace with "test". When I select the word "test", then my whole sentence turns into "Thisteatteat".
In order to get this bad result, it seems like I have to use the backspace. Because if I stopped typing immediately after the word "teat" and selected the suggestion of "test" then everything works fine.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has seen this and if there might be a fix. I tried googling the internet for an answer and just haven't found anything.
Anybody have any thoughts?

Nexus 5 Keyboard Issue- Glitchy and choppy

Hi,
I am sort of new to this forum and I hope I am posting this in the right place. Apologies if there is a thread about this elsewhere but I have looked online and couldn't find a thread about this issue. It is hard for me to describe in words about the issue I am facing but I will try and be as descriptive as possible
For quite sometime now I find that my nexus 5 keyboard has become extremely glitchy and choppy. I find that the keyboard isn't as smooth as it was when I first got my device. There seems to be a bit of a lag between the time I press the key to the when the characters actually appear. It is very apparent when I am typing sentences in one flow. This is causing too many typos and is extremely annoying. I could, at one time, comfortably type long text messages with hardly any typos. The typos that I get can be considered almost impossible to generate unless you are willingly typing random characters
I am on android 4.4.4 and this problem has existed for the past couple of months. I don't have any custom firmware installed. My frequently used messaging apps are Viber, WhatsApp and Google hangouts. But this issue seems to be there even when I am typing something in the browser
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Have you tried a different keyboard? Like SwiftKey

Hi MasterElaichi and welcome to the forums.
The keyboard that your using for your messaging apps is the same as the one in your browser also... Im pretty sure that it's the Google keyboard by default.
I actually use Android Keyboard (AOSP) instead of the standard Google Keyboard and can switch between the two if I want the the system settings menu.
Couple things you could try-
To start you can go to "System Settings/Language and Input" then scroll down to keyboard and input methods. Click on the settings menu to the right of the Google keyboard or what ever keyboard you have selected. and go through you settings and make sure everything is set to your preference (just by chance somehow the settings have change) and check your auto correction aggressiveness, I have mine set to Modest.
Other than that you can try and and go to "System Settings/Apps/All" then select Google keyboard and clear the Data and Cache. This will wipe you personal dictionary if you have one though.
If the following doesn't work and the Google keyboard keeps acting up, you might want to try an different keyboard all together. Like Android Keyboard (AOSP) or Swiftkwey or Kii keyboard... Just some popular one to recommend.
Hi,
Thanks for all your responses. I have tried swiftkey in the past but I find it weird. For some reason I prefer a standard keyboard
My google keyboard settings are set to the default. I have turned off vibrations and the auto correct is set at modest. I have tried clearing the cache numerous times in the past but that doesn't work either
If I were to type this message using my Nexus 5, it would be riddled with typos and spaceless words. I am talking about typos that are impossible to get when you are in the flow and just typing away. For example, when I want to type "m', the letter "m" pops up, but the character that appears in the text area is either "." or the previous character would have disappeared. Similar thing with space bars. Sometimes pressing a space bar will just create a space but the characters may not appear
I have tried using my phone in safe mode but it helps only a little bit. I did contact the google support centre. As expected, they are asking me to do a factory reset and if that doesn't work they say they will rma my phone
Hi,
I uninstalled apps like Viber and Whatsapp thinking they could be the cause. I have also been running my device on safe mode. The problem still persists
I found this thread online. My problem is quite similar this one here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2274818
The only difference is that the OP here had an issue with an HTC. The problem appears to be keys that are close together are getting pressed. And I am certain my finger's aren't that fat and stubby that multiple keys get pressed
I don't want to factory reset my phone without exhausting all my options to fix this problem. Any input will be helpful
Thank you
So I have decided to do a hard reset on my phone hoping that would resolve my keyboard issue. I have managed to backup my photos and stuff to google doc. i wanted to back up my whatsapp data onto my laptop but for some reason my laptop (vista) isn't detecting my phone
I have reinstalled whatsapp in the past after removing and I didn't lose my whatsapp data. Do you think a hard reset will make my whatsapp data irretrievable? I am asking because there is an option in whatsapp, when you install it, that asks if you want to back up conversations

if you hard reset and wipe the internal memory then your whatsapp back up will be deleted.
Try and uninstall any keyboard updates you may have done.
I would say the same thing and it would be the first thing I would try, uninstall the updates and data in settings/apps. The google keyboard works fine on my N5 and N7.
I performed a wipe cache partition through recovery mode. There seems to be some improvement but it is too soon to tell
