Love the app, would love to upgrade back to premium but I don't see that you accept PayPal.
"So for that reason, I'm out." as the sharks would say Stuck with Free version unfortunately

so bad ._. I can't get it from the market ._.

It's great and all, but there are two annoyances. First being the ongoing notification keeps turning back on and the second one is trying to offer me 30-day trial for pro every time I open the app. Same for you guys?

I just decided to try the 30 day trial. Once I did that it went away. Not sure if there's another way around it. So far, it's pretty sweet.

As a technician for Sprint, Lookout has caused nothing but headaches for us. It may "protect" the phone, but more often than not, it does more damage than it helps. Such as locking up the phone, draining battery, causing the GPS to heat up, etc.

There is also a lot of speculation concerning impropriety in Lookout's handling of user's personal information taken from their devices.
This has been a telepathic transmission from the Outer Limits

Thanks for this app, gonna download and try it.

First....thanks xda forums and developers. Recently rooted and have been playing with various ROMs. Love what the community has done...just hope I find one that fits my needs and I stick with it...have been donating where has seen fit.
To the subject
Software sounds good, I have read that I should install tracking software such as this into the system files to further prevent a thief's un-installation. Used root explorer, copied apk to system/app. Changed privilege to r/o, was not able to find file to uninstall afterward....however, force closed on me.
Any help is appreciated.
Does this software also allow you to turn on your GPS?
Thanks again!

How does the Backup & Restore compare to Titanium Backup?

Couldn't this program take what info from your phone they want? If so, why are people using this?

I mentioned in an earlier post that Lookout may be doing shady things with info taken from your device. Read their terms and conditions VERY carefully and you'll see what I mean.

but doesnt sprint have headaches all the time just because of the fact they are sprint? lol j/k
i havent seen anything "bad" with this application yet, as far as the "collecting user data" IF you think they might be doing shading things, then dont allow them to take the "user data feed back" i declined it as well as i do with all apps, even googles lol.

Some great information and apps.. thanks a lot or sharing. Found a number of apps that were a little too nosey for my liking.
Installed LBE Security and AdFree.
Thankyou!
What on earth could Angry Birds want my IMEI/IMSI for??
Just some statistics from my own experience:
85~% of the apps you will ask you for permission to use your IMEI/IMSI!
40~% wants your position / GPS
30% ask to read your call logs / contacts etc.
...... but see it yourself!
Btw: If you find a good app, that I could add to this list, don't hesitate to post here.
I agree wholeheartedly. Privacy, and hence liberty, is being eroded at every turn. People just don't seem to realize how much information they're giving away, and don't care. What's the big deal about wearing a little yellow star someone once said. That is the evil insidious problem of Facebook. A generation ago people kept diaries under lock and key. Now people publish their every banal moment to Facebook. And, to be fair, most of these people are safe doing this. Most people are not criminals or terrorists and have nothing, or what they consider very little, to hide. But this is the thin edge of the wedge. I read 1984 in 1970. I also read Fahrenheit 451 and Brave New World. Although the authoritarianism of our present system is less overt and more insidious than that shown in these books, you really can see distinct similarities between these fictional times, and the way we live now. It is easy to find copies of these books, everyone should download them and read or re-read them. Yes, it might interfere with watching professional sport or dancing with quasi celebrities...but that which does not kill you makes you stronger. If you live in a free country it is your duty as a citizen to be informed, or else we wind up like we are now....rioting in the streets while our leaders ignore us, while they kowtow to the global financial elites.
And the above post is the saddest thing of all. If we want to use any app we have to give them blanket permissions. I'm sorry, I don't want them knowing who/where I am. Who my contacts are, what I'm doing. I miss the ownership of my data that the old Palm OS gave me. And I rue the day I was forced into the cloud. I don't want to see their ads. I don't want to help them in any way. That may seem unreasonable considering most of the programs are free, and you can call me selfish, but to me free is free period. If you want to charge for your app, and it is good, I'll pay for it, but if you're going to call an app free it should be just that, free. The "business is business argument" doesn't cut it with me, there is only one "thing" and that's the right" thing". Integrity is the only thing that sets regular people apart from the wealthy.
Thanks to the OP
Thank you very much.
I'd recommend Privacy Inspector to check what your apps can do. Full version Privacy Blocker can actually change applications so they would not be able to gather personal information about you.
thx for this help post, very much needed
You should really remove the Taskmanager (here for why) since they do more harm then good.. Now an app like Watchdog alerts you when apps are misbehaving and lets you kill them but other than that you should just leave them alone.. at least on 2.2+

This is a good one, didn't know that about taskmanagers.
But still, to kill some unwanted apps you need a taskmanager.
I will recommend watchdog now of course too.
btw. there is an update for lbe privacy guard.
I will add that soon in the 1st post.
stay tuned!
Hy, thanks for the post. The lbe guard seems nice, I was using "Permission denied" until now, but the interface was not that good xD

Some good ones for you guys.
PDroid – The Better Privacy Protection is a program you can use to block acces to personal data. Read the link. Super! It doesnt do anything without paching the ROM youre using. But patching is fairly easy using pacher found at aplication thread. No ICS support yet . I suggest asking your ROM devs to implement PDroid patch. If we demand...
Edit: You find all instructions in the PDroid thread.
And then the other: Bloatfreezer. App that can freeze any other app in system. Freezing doesnt make system misbehave and it works on system apps too. You can freeze anything. Alot better than task killers. Author is Trey Holland who find the Carrier IQ in android systems. He has been sued by google from reveiling Carrier IQ which is app that sends all your data to somewhere. Even your key presses.
Carrier IQ is a spying app in millions of phones. Nokia, blackberry, android etc.
You can scan your system using logging test app by xda user Trey Holland; TrevE
Edit: Some thanks would be nice because these are gems here.

Nice one! Is there a way to find who has installed the Spyware on my phone?
does this has any option to restrict application permissions?

The PRO version has an Install date in details applications list, so if you know where was you phone at that date, there's a very good chance to know who has installed it (the install date/time is in your local time)

The MIUI ROM / Superuser app has ability to restrict permissions of reading phone state, SMS messages, CALLS, dial and answer calls. You can choose between Denied / Allow and Always Ask options - very nice
It reports
Catch

GO SMS Pro

As suspicious. What's funny? GO SMS Pro for using permissions for sending texts.
It really have fast scanner.
No spyware found. But give ne 2 warrnings...

Thank you for the feedback
First I want to thank you both for giving it a try, and providing the valuable feedback.
Catch (com.threebanana.notes) - Not sure if you are referring "Catch Notes Notepad", but it is reported as suspicious because of the boot on startup, record audio, internet access, getting a fine GPS location - which are enough to send your location, and phone calls to internet server. However the app seems stable and will be ignored in the next release.
XBMC Remote - (org.xbmc.android.remote) - Seems safe, listed in Warnings because of start on boot, read and receive of SMS messages. Will be marked as safe in the next release.
NoLed (com.led.notify) - reads GMAIL, reads & receives SMS, start on boot - apparently all permissions are needed for normal operations of the app as described. Will be marked safe in the next release.
GO SMS Pro (com.jb.gosms) - Full range of permissions - read, receive, SMS, MMS, etc., start on boot, record audio and network-based location.
The two that bothers me are record audio, and network-based location. With the abillity of sending and receiving SMS messages it can be used to return GPS location on received SMS to the sender of the SMS. I'm not sure if this is a feature ?
A new version that excludes the for apps above has been rolled on Google Play, and will be available for download in the next few hours.
Thanks once again for the feedback !
Yes. I was referring to the Catch Notes.
Here to consider google has permission on "record phone calls". Believe RECORD_AUDIO is actually needed to work with voice recognition. Seems a bit funky it is not separated into different permissions.
With XBMC I totally don't have problem marking as not spyware since sources are there.
With GO SMS Pro. Yeah, it is a feature for some. But pure GPS location is a bit useless unless filtered through location on a map or accompanied by nearby location.
Yes, you are right about RECORD_AUDIO. The 4 reported apps are already skipped from the scanner in the last version rolled on the market.
Here's the apk, because Google Play will roll it tomorrow I think
Nice app, reported Juice Defender, Desk Notifier and AVG Anti-Virus as suspicious. No biggie to me as I'm pretty sure they're safe lol
For anyone that cares:
PDroid offers an excellent solution to those questionable permissions for the rooted user.
xda-portal article: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/pdroid-the-better-privacy-protection/
thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357056
Thanks ridethisbike !
Strange, but JuiceDefender has permissions to read sms, mms, starts on boot and also GPS and Network-based location ...
AVG Antivirus will be added in the ignore list at the next release of the app.
Cannot find Desk Notifier in the market. Is it there, or that's something custom ?
PDroid is great, just checked it out. I'm using MIUI, and the Superuser app has similar features

Seems that the JuiceDefender has this feature: "auto-toggle WiFi depending on your location" and that's why it needs GPS and Network-based location ...
A new version is rolled on the market skipping AVG and JuiceDefender.
Btw there's already a cracked fake version of the PRO version. Please note that installing the fake version can compromise your Android Device privacy. Also the fake version will not be updated, so you will miss SpyWare definition updates. If anyone needs a free version, just put the FREE one - it's an ad free app, and the new SpyWare definitions are rolled to it too.
Just gave this a little run and it came back with 3 suspicious apps.
HeyWire, SMS Backup and Restore and finally 1tap Cleaner Pro.
I have been using all 3 apps for a long time with no issues and I have never had any concern that they were suspect in any way.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium HD app
More than necessary and definitely a great idea
Great work

[APP][5.0+] Kiddie Parental Control

Hi everyone,
I have created my own Parental Control application since I had difficulties to find a free, simple and secure one.
I'm actually searching for testers or good ideas.
It allows to:
avoid installing new application by blocking the Play Store
block the installed applications (completely or by adding a time limit)
limit the calls duration
ensure the Youtube parental filter is enabled (and stays enabled)
track your child applications or network activities
be warned when your child leave a defined area (PAID FEATURE)
block undesired content (adult/illegal websites...) or a specific website by filtering the device's network requests (PAID FEATURE)
Beware of one thing: Kiddie does not provide any remote control. You will have to take your child's device to do restriction modifications.

It allows to:
avoid installing new application
restrict the installed applications (block them or add a time limit)
limit the call duration
ensure the Google Play/Youtube/... parental filters are enabled (and stay enabled)
track your child applications or network activities
block undesired content (adult/illegal websites...) by filtering the phone's network requests (this is the only paid feature)
Beware of one thing: Heimdall does not provide any remote control. You will have to take your child's device to do restriction modifications.

Looks good! Can you add functionality for maximum daily use and non-use time (e.g. bedtime or school time)? Thnx!

Agree.
Great and useful application.
The maximum daily usage feature is really important to make it real hit against those apps that wants money.
I'm a beginner in Android programming, but i would also like to contribute to this project.
Hi everyone,
For your information Heimdall has evolved since the first post here. Several features has been added, including the one you were asking here: a global phone limit. However, please note I've added that one in the paid version only.
Why can't I install it on my Android 8.1 Huawei P20?
Off-topic: For a moment I was confused on why a tool for flashing ROMs on Samsung Galaxy S was in focus again !
Is remote control coming? Like viewing what apps they have downloaded or seeing YouTube history?
Sent from my Sony Xperia XZ1 using XDA Labs
Cool app. In my opinion:
1. Blocking the entire settings app is too overreaching, only sensitive settings activities should be blocked (VPN, Accessibility).
2. Remote control would be nice (eg. kid is at a friend's for the afternoon and you want to unlock stuff without driving across town).
3. Maybe a way to pick individual activities inside applications (eg. YouTube settings panel).
Before selecting a name for an app, you should search XDA for that name. In case of heimdall you will find the Linux version of Odin. The well known Samsung flashing tool.
Great news. Merci !
Can't you do a free webblock version with stevenblack hosts file (i guess root will be necessary) or parental dns like norton or opendns ? Thanks.
@fr_ju: Fred, if interested to get the app translated you may want to consider to announce it here.

You're certainly correct and it would make it easier to distinguish. However, I doubt that the name of a Norse god bears a copyright or trademark, and Heimdall(r) seems to be a good patron of an application with the desired intention. But as Fred also asks for ideas about the app's name, how about "Heimdall's Horn" i.e. Gjallarhorn.
Well. I'd love to use this app, but I can't install it from the play store.
Apk available?
Hi all, thanks for your comments. I'll try to answer all your questions:
- I actually knew about the flashing tool before selecting Heimdall as name, but I believe most people actually doesn't know about the flashing tool (except maybe on xda). And I like the sound and meaning of it.
- concerning impossibility to install Heimdall on Huawei: I actually had to block all Huawei, Honor and Xiaomi devices due to incompatibilities. These manufacturers heavily modify Android and Heimdall protections are randomly disabled on theses devices.
- concerning the settings app which is always blocked: at the beginning I were only blocking some settings activities and not the whole app, but I quickly discover that it is actually complicated to cover all cases due to all different or modified version of Android. So I chose the easy way, but this is not the first time I heard complaint about that so I will think about it and try to find a better way.
- concerning the remote control: for now I want to avoid sending data to a server (for several reasons, including the privacy protection). So having a remote control in that condition is not that simple. I may extend the existing remote control via SMS in the future to support more use cases, but for the user it is not as simple as other solutions.

One way that it may be done is to allow the used to optionally block activities instead of whole apps. You should be able to get activity lists from blocked apps. You can ship the App with the whole settings blocked by default and allow users to fine tune the blocking if needed.

Your concern for privacy is commendable. SMS control is nice but won't work for devices without cellular connection, such as tablets or phones running without a network plan and/or SIM cards (such devices are popular with kids in my corner of the world). If you decide to go with some form of cloud messaging, please use GCM as it's the de facto standard. If you're targeting non-Google devices, I hear MQTT is good, but you'll have to have your own infrastructure and have users exclude Heimdall from battery optimization.

I can tell you how to recover the mail data. I recently lost very important letters. And I tried to restore them. But did does not work out. Therefore, I tried to use one of these utilities . To my luck, everything turned out. Perhaps this will help you too.

Question Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, Best Security, Privacy, ROMs.

Hi all,
My appologies up front for asking this question as I realize its fairly general and dependent upon my security requirements... Just got a new SGS22ULTRA and need some guidance on getting it secured.
Background info:
--- I never use any cloud services to backup, store, or use applications or files.
--- I only use Software that I can purchase a one time license, download it and use it directly from my devices. No yearly rotating fees, monthly fees, services, nothing.
----All files including media, movies, music, I purchase hard copies, DVD, CDs, So I own the actual movie, music, licenses, etc...
---- I dont use any streaming services, or paid subscriptions, news services, etc...
With the above stated I am hopefull you all can provide me with some direction on what is the best ROM to secure and lockdown my phone for privacy and security. Amongst obvious reasons I truly hate having a green leather Ikea sofa following me around and popping up everywhere.... I truly dislike the constant tracking, monitoring, etc.... any thoughts or suggestions I would be grateful to hear.
Thankyou all in advance
A bigger question is backup without using cloud. No SD card means you lose all data on internal memory in a crash and burn, every time.
Crashes rarely happen but not rare enough. A drop can have the same result.
Kill bixby, and keep location off unless needed for starters. No social media or shopping apps installed, ever. Disable Samsung, app, carrier and Google feedback. A firewall with logging be very useful.

There is nothing like this, you will always be tracked by someone (read Google, Samsung, Facebook or whatever). You want privacy and no tracking? Get a firewall and block everything but you'll cripple the phone and your experience.

Cookies, cookies everywhere... it's amazing how much data they pack away even on a good browser. I just clear the data every week or two.
A grossly handicapped phone isn't much fun or very useful.
So phone OS that focus on privacy and security such as Copperhead, Graphene, etc... dont work? Im not out for perfection, and like I said, I dont use streaming services or cloud based apps, I dont use google play, or anything like that. Any apps I use work directly from phone or I build my own apps to function as I need.
Im looking to plug as many privacy security holes as I can and figured, hopefull someone was working on a custom ROM that helps with this.
Thx

You'll likely end up with a can full of worms to chase down or live with. It will make troubleshooting exponentially harder especially on a new model like this.
Why buy a Sammy flagship and not use it's many features and customizations? You can lock it down fairly well without going totally fort Knox on it.
I think you bought the wrong phone for your specific needs. A Pixel device would have been the better choice.
Its been a while since logging on... I got hit with the nasty dirty stinky pipe linux kernel. Hard reset phone, etc.... So, if I may ask for some assistance... is there a link to how to lockdown, privacy, etc... for S22 Ultra? Unfortuneatly as awsome as this phone is I find it has automated capabilities surpassing my permissions and desires.... If someone can help me update my intelligence level and verify I have Overseer Mode turned off I would be gratefil.... thanks for all your suggestions and frankness.... best regards

Not sure how it got in. Be helpful to know the vector used to compromise your device ie web surfing, download or installed app. Nasty little bugger.
You need the patch if you're on Android 12 if Samsung has released a patch for it.
Since I'm still running 9... no worries about this exploit. So much for Gookill's security hype.
