I have been trying to get Angry Birds Rio installed on my DroidX (2.2.1 -> Rooted -> running Fission 2.5.7) all morning. It downloads fine, but then comes up saying "Application Not Installed." All other apps have installed fine, but I have been having to unmount my SDCard before my Angry Birds or Angry Birds Seasons will update. Hasn't been an issue, but RIO will plain just not install.
I found a on Android Central (cannot link to it because I do not have 8 posts currently) thread regarding the issue and removing the android_secure folder from your SDCard should fix it, but removing the "android_secure" folder from my did not help. I still will not install.
Things I have tried to fix:
- rebooted my phone
- unmounted SDCard after finding the .apk and tried installing from the phone instead of the SDCard
- removed android_secure
- clearing the cache and data from the Amazon App & the market app (figured it couldn't hurt)
After each one of these things I tried to reinstall which involved re-downloading the app through the Amazon Android Marketplace.
Nothing is working.... I figured this was the best place to come.
****UPDATE 3/23/2011****
Last night I received an email from Amazon that said the following:
Hello Travis,
Thanks for your patience. I'm so sorry Angry Birds RIO isn't installing for you on our opening day of the Amazon Appstore for Android. We are aware of the issue and our developers are hammering out a solution.
I will update you in a few hours, and email you a solution as soon as it is available. We were trying for today, but in any case I will let you know.
**Then Again Later**
I have been tracking our problem installing Angry Birds RIO moment by moment today. There hasn't been a confirmed resolution as of yet, but we are working on it.
In the case that the application is no longer free when we get it running, we will be sure to credit your account for the cost. Thank you so much for your patience and for contributing to a solution. Your account is already flagged to be contacted when the fix is complete.

Same problem on a stock Evo 4G.
My wife's reported the same problem with her Incredible but I haven't arrived home, yet, to take a look at it.
It's installed fine on my Droid X, though.
I have 2 OG Droids that I have tried installing this on. It works on one but not on the other. The settings are set to allow non market apps, as I couldn't have installed the amazon store in the first place otherwise.
The one that it worked on is running the stock 2.3.3 rom from perter alfonso.
The one I am having issues with is running the latest bugless beast.
I thought it may have been just the ROM, but I see others are having the same issue on other phones. I also tried installing the cracked apk with the same result. Not sure what to do next.
Same problem on my Droid 2, rooted. Tried uninstalling the app store and deleting the .android_secure and nothing, still won't install.
SOLVED [for me]
I had success removing the smdl2tmp1.asec file from the SD\.android_secure directory.

I don't have anything in that directory at all. I deleted the entire folder even, rebooted my device, and tried to install. No dice!

If you're on Darkys 9.4 try removing or unmounting your external SD card.

I am having the exact same problem. I have a Droid 2 stock. I even reset, wiped all user data, and reinstalled everything this morning - still no dice.
are you guys trying this from the Amazon Market? it seems to be working fine for me on my rooted Incredible (stock rom)

I'm not sure if the OP is a troll, or just stupid... How hard is it to give ACCURATE information on what you are trying to do.
Trolled. Perhaps.
Troll or not , I have had this issue when trying to update apps. I haven't really figured out what's causing apps not to load. I get "app not installed, no usb or SD card found".
Ill be vague just like the op. Here's what you do clear cache and defaults on the market.

Yeah, I've had the same problem, but usually just trying to update the app again works (at least, for me).

I get it when the download interrupts and the file is corrupted. So it can't install. I usually just redownload and its fine.
Try unmounting ur SD card, then installing. I had a problem awhile back with specific apps and that fixed it.

I am having the same problem and it is driving me insane. I have cleared cache in the market. I have rebooted, reflashed, reset to factory, Took out the SD card, put it back in, unmounted it, booted without it.
It doesn't matter what rom I flashed as I have tried several. I just restored my phone with CWM to a backup I made right after I first rooted and the market still doesn't work.
Are you rooted?? Its most likely a bad previous install that needs to be removed first which can be quite troubling because some show that they aren't installed when in actuality they are just not properly. IF YOU ARE ROOTED try using Titanium Backup Root to remove the bad install.

yeah, I am rooted. have been for a while. I have flashed and used several roms/ kernals etc. The thing is, even if I reset the phone to factory it still does it. I went into Titanium, what or how do I find a bad install?? Is there something to look for?

Possibly the ROM's included the app but have a bad install inside the ROM. I seen this issue with a couple apps specifically FLASH PLAYER. Which app are you having issues with?? When in Titanium Backup go to the Backup/Restore section and it should show all of your installed applications..scroll to see if the application you are trying to install is on the list...if so uninstall it. If this doesn't work its possible there is a previous apk file on your phone of this app which is corrupting the download which can be removed with an app like "ROOT EXPLORER" unfortunately it costs money. To do that you would venture into the system/app folder and delete the apk file if in fact there is one in there. To check to see if there is one most file explorers will allow you to go into these folders but you cannot access anything.

I have Root Explorer. Thanks. seems this is a common problem after searching google. No know solution as everyone has got theirs to work doing something different. I have not made any backups with Titanium as the roms I have used auto re-installed everything. I am wondering if it has something to do with that. Any time I flash a rom now, it says "starting download" for all my apps in the market. They never start though.
it's working now. not sure what I did though. I wiped everything and flashed BAMF remix (what I was using originally) and when I went through the setup I did everything like I did before. Only thing I changed when swapping roms was I would not set up my HTC account in the setup.
I'm not rooted (yet!) and I've been having the same problem with the market for the last two days. Probably half the apps I bought/downloaded hung on authorizing. When finally authorized it took quite a while to download and show under my apps. One took almost an hour to show up. Email notifications were also delayed. Tried clearing the cache but that didn't help...

I cleared dalvik cache but didn't work, reboot as well. Anything else I can do?
Lol, I was messing around with titanium backup and now I can't install it no matter what I do.
I'm not sure but I seem to get that with like 100mb free storage on the stock rom. As well as it saying my visual voicemail box is full which I can't even have since I'm on a prepaid plan. Usually I have to uninstall an app just to download an app that is a few hundred KB even though I have way more than enough room... although in your case TB might've caused some issues... Someone else can probably help out more than me though...

out of all the apps I could be having problems with
I tried clearing market data and cache as well. Still no luck. I'm starting to get really scared here. There's a lot of things I need to backup
Even if I sideload the app from my sd card, it still tells me I don't have enough space
I just uninstalled and reinstalled Mahjong Artifacts from the amazon app store a 40mb game WTF???
And TB still gives me an insufficient storage error
so it's only TB? If that's the case then use a different app to backup or even just make a nandroid backup wipe and reflash then use appextractor from the play store to pull apps from the nandroid...

Yes, its only TB. Lol that app didn't work. It would scan a nandroid and then the scan would finish. It wouldn't give me any indication of what apps it found or if there was any I could install. I was trying to find TB through one of my old backups, but it was a no go
Well es file explorer can backup any apps. You need root enabled I'm pretty sure as well, but you can do menu> manager> app manager> select (for multi select), then just select all the apps you want to back up and select backup.
File expert will backup apps, as well as things like androzip, etc...etc...
Or you could go in by hand and pull them individually with Root Explorer. Root Explorer is without equal the go to app to explore, manage and fix things on your device and well worth paying for.
Also, maybe cruise through these links about some of your backup concerns:
- Preparing for backup
- Backup Guide
...and don't forget to back up your sdcard to a computer, maybe your problem is similar to something like what was found here?
Official CWM Recovery 5.0.2.7 ...and once you finish backing up your sdcard to the computer you should format it after working through this issue and before flashing a new ROM.
Probably something silly like leftover files in /sdcard/android/data or something similar...
...i'm just getting off and crashing now, and meant to a while ago, so if I think of something sometime else not on the edge of sleep i'll post it. Good luck.
Edit real quick:
...and the clockworkmod backup is always a good grab:

Thanks for the help guys. I'm guessing there was a problem with TB and it wasn't going to have any help getting started again.

When updating certain apps I get "insufficient Storage" warning 64gb (40gb free stora
My phone is rooted with TRWP, no other mods. I am on the stock rom.*When I update my apps through the play store, certain apps like Facebook, Twitter, Pulse news reader and Flixter won't update and I get the insufficient Storage warning. I have the 64gb Sandstone Black model, global version and I have about 40GB of free storage left. I restored my (non system) apps and data with Titanium Backup. I am wondering if that could be the culprit. I can install new apps from the play store on my phone without a problem, and most of my restored apps will update just fine. So, I am confused why certain apps will give me this issue. I have over 200 apps installed and really don't want to install them one by one. Does anybody else have this issue? I searched everywhere but could not find anything, hence my post here.*
Any help is appreciated.*
Thank you

- This did the trick for me. I've done it on all my devices with this error and it's worked every time.
- I just used Root Explorer and navigated to /data/app-lib and deleted the (insert app name here)-1 folder and updated the apps again.
* Apparently there's an app that does this for you. It's called Insufixer.

These forums have been invaluable to me. You guys amaze me. If you could help with this, I would be forever grateful.
Phone: Verizon Galaxy S3, rooted, CM10.2
Problem: I have suddenly run into a problem where only some of my apps (1) do not retain any of their data after a reboot and (2) do not stay frozen (I've tried freezing with Titanium, Lucky Patcher, Root Uninstaller Pro, etc.) after rebooting (they do keep their data and remain frozen until I power my device off). ONLY the apps I installed on or after about two weeks ago have this problem (i.e. apps installed before that do not have this problem). So basically every time I reboot my phone apps installed over the last two weeks look like I've never used them (for example, a notepad app that I used extensively before rebooting shows no notes).
Solutions Attempted (without success obviously):
1.) Uninstalling problematic apps, rebooting phone and reintalling
2.) Doing a full factory reset via CWM recovery, wiping all caches, and restoring a nandroid backup that was taken before this problem arose.
Question: Is there anything that I can do to resolve this problem or do I need to get a new phone?
Thanks,
Jenna

I've just moved from 4.4.2 to 5.0 on my Nexus 5 and used Ti to restore all my apps. It kept hanging on restoring TwoDots so I skipped it and installed everything else. Now I can't restore TwoDots from Ti and I can't install it from the Play Store (error -506).
I'm thinking I must have some kind of corrupt partial restore of the app but I don't know how to go about solving that. Have wiped cache/dalvik to no avail.
Having the same issue with Google Keep.
Came from 4.4.4 and onto 5.0 on my Moto G LTE. Restoring via Titanium Backup gives me the insufficient space error which is weird, because I have a lot of space for apps. Tried via Play Store and it returned a rare 506 error. Still looking for a solution.
Edit: Just solved this from my side by deleting the data folder of said application. In my case, it was com.google.android.keep which I got rid of via an app called System Cleanup. Hope this helps.

Same problem. I have tried all the above suggestions, including reboots, to no avail. It's happening for Titanium, GoSMS, Roboform & FxExplorer, while others of similar sizes install ok. All of them have been installed and working previously. Sometimes Play Store just crashes with these, or I get 'insufficient storage, manage apps to free space' when sideloading.

I reckon my problems were caused by using the Link2Sd app. I moved too many apps to sdcard. A factory reset and reflashing my ROM sorted the problem. Link2Sd is still an excellent app manager app and allows (amongst other things) linking phone storage apps to the sdcard to save memory space. Just use it cautiously.
If you use a root explorer, goto data/data, there are dead files in there under google music, or talk, delete them , then try to reinstall from play store, worked perfectly for me and killed the 506 error, these are from past error installs and Android thinks the app is still installed. I personally use root explorer and within all the actual blue file folders under data/data, the corrupt ones showed as white unknown files, if I helped hit thanks.... These are actually like leftover residual file fragments from a prior intall, that for some reason Android 5.0+ doesn't clean out, tombstones

Thank you so much. This really saved me from resetting my phone!!! I spent the whole damn night last night ;(
Update: Some apps are still nasty and come up with the same error like: CF.lumen, Google Gesture, Tangram.

Exactly that!
I had Link2SD installed and had moved a lot of apps to the ext4 partition of my SGS4 with CM12.1. Now I changed my SD-card from 64 GB to 128 GB. I had backuped all these apps with Titanium, well, but I didnt delete all those links.
Effect was that restore with Titanium was not possible (forever the MsgBox "....blabla restore...". With Google Play I had this Error Code -506, which is nowhere described I guess.
After I deleted all those dead symlinks I could reinstall or restore the apps, only thing now: Titanium did the restore not to the internal system but to the external sd-card, at least told me so. Now I could move them through the systems app management to the internal system but I think this was not the most elegant way to manage.
same problem for me with few apps.
here my exprerience:
system cleanup do nothing
root explorer free edition can't browse data folder; pro version not buyed
es file explorer free edition has a root explorer but show an empty folder when browsing data
sd maid work great!
thanks @Aventura5
Thank you brother.

Wow! It worked like a charm! Thaaaaaank you! ??
FIXED. Got the same problem here. Trying to install new apps but it kept saying error 506. I'm a link2sd user and i was guessing that the problem came from this app. Just go to the settings>install location>select internal. It worked for me.
I found an easier way to fix this issue. If you have titanium backup installed, run batch mode and remove orphan data.
After that, install from playstore was a breeze.
Hit thanks if this helped you.
