Hi all,
I've some mp3 files in the internal SD' /Music folder in my SGS i9000 . The problem is that sometimes if I try to play ANY of these files from the music player I got the error "File format not supported". When this happens, my mp3 ringtones does not ring too: I just need to reboot the phone to restore the sounds , but after some hours it stops working again. This is quite frustrating.
I've tried different music readers (the stock one and MIUI), with the same result.
I now have darky's 9.3.XWJS5 and speedmod kernel k13c , but I had the same problem with the stock 2.2 ROM so I don't know if it's a sgs or an android problem.
Any help would be really appreciated
TIA
I have the exact same problem. I've tried several roms and the problem still exist..

please help!
I too have this problem and it is rather annoying. I was about to change ROMS but reading here it seems that does not help. Could this be caused by a corrupt sd card? Perhaps trying out a different SD card might yield some results
I removed Advanced Task Killer and Automatic Task Killer from my phone and it worked up to a polint. Now it happens rarely.
But today in another forum a member said that the Twitter application causes that problem. When he removed the Twitter application problem has solved.
If you are using Twitter application try to remove that.

I've had the same problem, I think I am going to remove the twitter app and try that. It didn't start until more recently so I have a feeling that might very well be the problem. We'll see. I'm running FireFly 3.0 with a speedmod kernal.

I know some of you have been having problems with a force close message that looks like this: Android.process.media is not responding please force close or retry.
I have done search after search only to find one way that ultimately fixes this annoying every second force close message.
1. Make sure your phone is rooted.
2. Using a file explorer of your choice go into the directories as follows:
/system/app/
3. Delete this file from the menu, mediaprovider.apk
4. Force close messages will now stop. Horray!
If you have questions post them. I will do my best to answer.

i tried it on my G2 and it hasn't worked yet. Had to give ES FileExplorer root.
Have a great morning!

I fixed this problem without any further issues by clearing the download cache - I'm just as surprised as you.

Yea like I said you must have a rooted phone!!!. Did it work after you gave es file root?
Another great program in root explorer. You can get it from ww w. 4shared .co m
Go there type in rootexplorer .apk and it will have multiple downloads. Just pick one and run it.
You can get all the paid apps for free like that. Just type in .apk after the app you want is typed in for example: rootexplorer .apk or irunner .apk or androidbanking .apk..... you get the picture?

Or you could get it from the market, and pay for it, and support the developers. But if you want to be a thief, that's your decision.

+ 1, a one time payment of $4 for something useful is nothing.

why patronize piracy?
I live in Asia, where pirated software/apps are more prevalent than legit ones. That is because software like Microsoft Windows is economically out of reach for the man on the street.
But $3.99? Come on! We shouldn't expect devs to continue churning out useful code without getting paid for it. If the developers of Titanium Backup or Root Toolbox had decided early on that it wasn't worth it to develop apps for Android or WinMo, we'd all still be in the Dark Ages of the cellphone era. Making custom ROMs is not the same. For one, many of them were based on stock firmware--which were made by highly-paid software engineers at phone makers in the first place.
What the Android Market offers for free, I download for free. When it has a price and I need it, I pay for it. Simple as that.
1) the fix listed above worked perfectly for me. (HD2, gingerbread, CM7)
2) paying for an app is the right thing to do. free ones are preferred, of course. you know it, i know it, they know it. support open source, support the community. pay it forward.

Yep, this is actually a horrible fix. For me, it did nothing except stop me from accessing any of my media. So if you don't care about listening to music, viewing any photos, having ringtones, viewing video you have taken etc, this MIGHT work for you. I had to dig out the mediaprovider.apk from the .zip of my ROM and replace it.
I fixed mine by restoring my last Titanium Backup ("restore all apps with data"). Whatever was corrupted was restored back to working order. I understand that not everyone has Titanium Backup, but it has save my a$$ a couple of times now when an app or system file has started acting weird. Root your phone and get TB, it's so worth it.
EDIT: OK, so the problem came back after I replaced mediaprovider.apk, so apologies for that. I booted into recovery and did a factory/data reset, then restored my Titanium Backup, and all seems to be good now. Again, I understand this may not help everyone, but it worked for me, and it avoids deleting apk files without fully understanding what effect it will have.

I had the same problem with my Asus transformer. In addition the default Music player did not work anymore as it used to (played the wrong numbers).
The above solution did not work for me (I could get to the files mentioned without rooting).
Sofar I got the problem solved as followed.
1. I found an new version 4 of the Music player (com.google.android.misic.4.0.9.apk) and installed this version
2. This by itself did not solve anything, but now I could reinstall the factory original version and now everything is OK.
No forced closing anymore and the default player works as before
I hope it stays this way.

Hi, I just got a Sensation a couple of days ago and there have been a few problems I hope you guys could help me with.
Firstly, my Android Market only shows a few of the apps that there should be. Loads of apps such as the launchers or Angry Birds for example aren't showing up. When I open the Market from my desktop it says that these apps cannot be installed in my country (UAE) when i have friends here with other Android phones with the very same apps.
Secondly, whenever I play a video on the phone it plays fine for about a minute and then the audio switches off and it only comes back if I skip scenes. I don't if this is a fault with my phone or maybe a wrong format I'm using, can you guys recommend a converter?
Thanks for any help, it's much appreciated.

I do not know the answer to your first question, but I would assume that your friends either have a different ROM flashed to their phone that allows them to bypass country restrictions, or they have downloaded the APK's from somewhere else, then 'adb push'ed them to their device... Someone more knowledgeable than me can answer that one...
The second question regarding video converters... I have used an application called Handbrake in the past to re-encode my video files, and it has worked wonders. I highly recommend it. Link: http://handbrake.fr/
Hope this helps.

You can try to find the apk for the apps you want and install them outside of Market by copying the apk to your SD card then installing from there (be sure to check the allow non-market applications box under the applications settings) this should (I think) bypass any country restrictions. If you look around I'm sure you can find the apks you want. If not you could probably make a request for certain apps and someone can upload the apk for you.
Thanks, I'll let you know how it goes.
Where do I paste the App file in the SD card?
Anywhere . You can, for example create new folder - "Apps" on yours sd and paste applications there.
Wystukane z mojego Swifta przy użyciu Tapatalk
Ahh, sorry should've been more specific. After copying the file over, where do I go in the phone to install it?
Nevermind, got it.
You can use the web-market to install apps. No idea why it doesn't appear on the phone's market app, but it should appear on the web market.
market.android.com
For the second problem: what video format are you using? Try *.mp4 or *.avi and see if they work Also, what resolution is the video?

You can try another video player such as MoboPlayer to see if you have converted your video ok.

I also use HandBrake converter.
There is an app called android market enabler "lets you access paid apps from countries where paid apps are not yet available". But it requires you to root your phone which is not currently possible on our phone. This could be what your friends are using.

make a folder on the root of your storage card & name it notifications & put the sounds in there.
for the weather sound you can disable that in the weather app or somewhere like that
Having some issues with the Music app. I am running Prime 1.9.something-or-other and I have been adding music to an SD Card then plugging it back into the tablet. Sometimes when I open Music, it just flickers like it is trying to refresh and having a panic attack in doing so. I have read other threads here where the user had to go into Application Settings and clear the cache/data for Music, which seems to work, but it bothers me that I have to do this regularly instead of just working like on my phone. Is there something I can do to permanently fix this behavior or is there a recommended free music player that may be similar to the stock player? I don't need any special features, just something that looks okay and has good logical sorting of music, preferably that cooperates well with the taskbar.
I tried Double Twist yesterday and its okay, but would rather just get the stock player working correctly.
Happens here, too. But no custom ROM - Stock B80 Transformer
Happened to me too in Stock 3.2, I had to kill the player and everything is fine for now.
No expert here but I feel that it has to do with the app itself (it is a beta version after all). I had this issue on tablet and phone. On my phone I reverted to the previous version of the google music app that did not include access to the Google cloud and haven't had the problem again.

On stock ROM and B50 TF here.
I had installed the Beta application to give access to the streaming from cloud feature, and I had experienced the flickering, so I reverted back. Worked for a while, but a month or so on, and the flickering is back.

Same problem here. Clearing the cache fixed the problem for a while, but it came back quite soon.
I think it's to do with playlists that have invalid references in them. I looked at the logcat to determine this. I have removed my playlists, and it doesn't seem to have come back (so far).
Let me know if this works for you.

After I deleted my playlist, album listing was fine, but under artists, the app kept scrolling back to the top of the list on its own. What doesn't it want me to see?! Buggy!
Should have also said after removing playlists, also clear the cache in app settings, it will then scan everything and should eventually settle down.
So my two biggest problems since upgrading to ics are.
1)all my music is duplicated.. Actually 3 times... And the first two copies don't play so I need to click on the third copy...
- how can I force a rescan of all my music? I think it's cached someplace cause restarting and/or pulling memory card doesn't force it to recreate the media list..
2) while using navagation, sometimes the voice changes mid directions to the this really Freaky voice lol...
Any ideas?
I also have blue tooth problems but that seems to be a global/known problem and hopefully that will be fixed soon.
Thanks guys!!!

Duplicate music files is an ICS bug, been there in the last couple of leaks and the official. To fix it delete everything in /data/data/com.android.providers.media/databases and then reboot. The media scanner will then rebuild the music indexes.
As for the Google Nav voices, I've noticed that as well. Seems to switch to the 'synthesized sally' when data coverage is bad, otherwise I believe it downloads sound files to play for the directions and street names. I'm just guessing here.
Did you wipe cache partition/Dalvik cache?

The only work around I've found for this after you delete the DB files and reboot is to never reboot the phone. The duplicate files happen when you power down or reboot. Annoying as hell but until someone figures it out you'll get really familiar with where your media db files are. Anyone have any ideas at all?

Hi guys, I have a problem. I installed the CM9 Rom the REMICS Rom, in my i9003 device, either way installing any ICS Rom I get the same problem over and over again and I dont know if it is an error of my device or happens to everyone. Either way would any one help me please?
The problem is that when I open a web page, no matter which browser I use, opening it with a google search from the widget or directly typing a web page, the page loads on the left, without using the entire screen and I have to double tab on the screen to zoom it but it still remains completely disordered...
This only happens using ICS for i9003 of course, and doesnt happen when I use Gingerbread based Roms.
Would anyone help me to solve this, I usually use browsing in my device.
In advance thank you very much. :fingers-crossed:
