[Q] Help - Frozen Apps - Samsung Galaxy Ace - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I have my rooted Samsung Galaxy Ace for a month now. I used Bloat Freezer to freeze unused apps including the default home launcher. This morning, I had some software/network problem so I formatted the phone hoping to fix it. I did not know that the apps would still be frozen, hence, I have no home launcher now. Cannot do anything much since the menu won't show up. SMS still comes through and I can access them when they show up in the notification bar. so technically, its not really bricked.
any suggestions on how to un-freeze the home launcher? or install a 3rd party home launcher by pc?
I have also tried updating the firmware but samsung kies does not recognize any problem with it.
thanks in advance,.

What about the 3 button trick to get into recovery or download mode, maybe some way to fix it that way, all I know maybe you can do something going through Samsung Kies software and see if you can restore your phone there.

Shoot me, the developer an email and as long as you can get a root shell through adb we can defrost everything.

the recovery mode only does the same as the factory reset, with the apps still frozen.
fixed it though, thankfully i had the copy of widget locker in my email. bluetooth-ed it to my phone (which still has an active notification bar) then i had access to my apps using the lockscreen.
thanks!

[Q] *Multiple Apps Constantly Force Closing!*

hey,
So I have a Bell Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant, it is rooted, runs 2.2 & Speedmod kernel.
It has been running fine on the speedmod kernel for several days now, until today. Out of no where, when I was using the phone Launcher Pro started CONSTANTLY force closing, basically leaving my phone in a useless force closing cycle.
AND, on top of that there are other apps that are force closing about every 10 seconds or so. they are: Market, Clock, and Samsung Apps.
Any idea whats happening here?
Thanks a lot!
~Dylan
did you install any recent apps that cause problems? it might be one of them.
You may need to ODIN back to stock.. well thats how we go back to stock on Galaxy S VIBRANT.
should be the same.
I haven't installed any apps that have caused problems that I know of...
I was just listening to music for an hour or so in the car, then when I unlocked my phone I was met with countless force close messages.
Yes, I was thinking that might be the route I have to go, but I was hoping there would be some way to uninstall those problem causing applications (namely Launcher Pro) somehow. I don't know how I would go about uninstalling it though, as my phone is basically rendered useless due to the constant force closing.
But thanks a lot for the input!

i don't think theres a difference between our phones, mines Tmobile Vibrant, but theres a built-in feature in stock, and most custom roms called SAFE MODE.
most people don't know about this.
This mode helps you do exactly what your facing, uninstall apps that act up.
In Safe Mode, it disables any startups and all that shiz.
Try going in like this.
shut down phone.
press power and wait till it get on vibrant screen, then start holding the MENU KEY the whole way until it starts.
the way to know if thsi worked is.. on the bottom left hand corner, it'll say SAFE MODE with a box aroundi t.
if this doesn't work, ODIN is the best way.
If you haven't turned it off recently, try a reboot. Yeah, standard boring advice, but I had constant-force-close issues a few months ago and a reboot fixed it.
So I somehow managed to get into the task manager by long pressing the home button, then from their I was able to uninstall Launcher Pro. So the CONSTANT force closing has stopped.
BUT, I still have plenty of other apps that are force closing very consistently. For example, everytime I go into the messaging application it force closes, so I can't send or receive texts. Along with that, Facebook, 'Clock', Samsung Apps, & Market are force closing.
When I go into the market it says **Connection Error (or something like that) and then sometimes force closes....so this problem renders the market useless as well.
Oh, and when I go into safe mode, I still get the constant force closing... but thanks for that info! I had no idea you could even go into safe mode with this phone.
Honestly, at the point flashing stock firmware back into ODIN is looking like my best option, but I reallllllly don't want to lose all of my installed apps, and text messages, and whatnot.
Anybody have any other ideas?
btw, thanks a lot for the input so far!
So I did a backup of all my data using the speedmod recovery menu (volume up, home, power)
If I reflash the PDA in ODIN, will I still have the speedmod kernel, thus allowing me to recover my backup of installed apps, texts, etc.?
Or will re-flashing wipe the backup and get rid of the speedmod kernel..?

Idk what the speed mod thing is.. But yes. It will be erased.
If u want to save backups of apps..
Get titanium back up doesn't matter if u get pro or free.
Just restart on everything dude.. Like a clean fresh install.
Its something that u installed or flashed that's causing these problems.
Sounds like your phone's internal SD is dying. Our Bell Vibrant has a nasty habit of the internal SDs dying, and I've heard that force closing all the time is one of the signs that the SD is going. There's a thread in development about this. I suggest you start backing everything up
Alright, I started from scratch and now everything is working great! thanks for your help guys!
plus, now I'm even running Darky's v7.5 Gingerbread Edition, this ROM is soooo epic. haha

[Q] oops, trashed out ADW

I have an Optimus M from MetroPCS and I installed ADW. While playing around with the settings, I accidentally deleted the last home screen, so now I'm stuck in a Force Close loop for ADW. I can't get to the home screens (I guess there aren't any), I can't get to the ADW settings, etc. The only thing I can get to is the notification bar. So I can't bring up any programs or anything, including the terminal. USB debugging isn't enabled and I can't get to that setting to enable it, so I don't think I can use adb to help.
Is there anything I can do to get out of this loop? I used to know how to hack my way around a T-Mobile G1 (installing custom recoveries, roms, etc.), but with this Optimus M I don't even know how to flash the stock firmware back on it. I'm not sure how to do a factory reset, but I'm not even sure if that would work anyway, since I may have deleted the custom launcher that came with the phone and I don't know if it has the stock launcher (or any way to enable the stock launcher if the LG launcher isn't there).
Can I get to a terminal from the recovery console and delete the ADW settings file or something to get it to go back to default settings? I even have a good backup of good ADW settings I made before I made the changes but I can't get to a point where I can restore those settings.
Any ideas?

Keep pressing home key and check if you have market running. If so, go there and install ADW launcher again or launcherPro
Thanks for the suggestion. In my case, I couldn't get the little "running apps" view to show up while holding down the home button either, but I was able to get to the market a different way. I don't know how many other people will run into this exact issue, but I've fixed it, and here's what I did for posterity's sake.
1. Get out of the force close loop. The way I did this was to pull down the notifications bar and I happened to have Cardio Trainer running in there so I could get to some program OTHER than the launcher itself so the home screen wasn't attempting to load. If you don't have anything running in your notification bar, you might send yourself a text message so you can get in the messaging app through the notification bar.
2. Press and hold the search button, this brings up voice search. Say something (anything), which will bring up a Google search.
3. Now search for ADW Launcher. What you're looking for is a site that will offer you a "download" link, which will load the Market.
4. Uninstall the launcher and immediately reinstall it. Fortunately, ADW wipes out its settings when you do this, and all should be back to normal.
5. Don't delete your last home screen again. In my defense, I clicked the little X to delete my last home screen just to see what it would say, and figured it was safe since it always asked me to confirm before deleting the other home screens. Nope, it just killed ADW forever instead. Lesson learned.

[Q] My screen has blacked out. What can I do?

OK, so tonight I decided to install the Atrix 2 Blaze mod. It installed without any issues.
After installing and verifying that everything worked, I then decided to use Titanium Backup to batch restore my apps. This appeared to work, and at the end of the process it told me to reboot. So I did.
Once it booted back up, I was greeted with the lock screen, as you'd expect -- but when I unlocked the phone, all I saw was a black screen and the notification bar on top. No wallpaper, no icons, no widgets, nothing. I could open the task drawer, I could make the soft keyboard appear, I could bring up the "open apps" window... but I can't actually do anything because the screen is freaking black.
But because the notification bar works, I can tell there are things going on. I see my phone checking for email. I see my phone battery decreasing. I see notifications when my google+ or twitter apps detect people are replying to threads I've been on. In other words, the phone appears to be working in every way except that there's nothing on the screen for me to interact with.
Has anyone seen this before? Is there a way to fix it? I hope?
Your best bet is probably just to flash the 2.3.5 Stock FXZ and start from scratch.
Sent from my MB865 using XDA
try re-flashing ?
looks like you loose your home launcher ..
I had the EXACT same problem, everything below the notifications bar was blacked out, i could bring up recent apps, but i couldn't even bring up the emergency dial pad at the unlock screen. Only difference is mine happened when i froze Go Launcher using Titanium Backup. I could tell it was still trying to run Go Launcher coz i could auto-rotate the screen.Sadly, the only option i had was to reset the phone and loose everything. I couldnt even backup my files coz i set USB mode to charge only so it never popped up on PC.
I reckon you restored an app that has a missing component/data and so it crashes at startup, maybe a home launcher, locker etc. Try making a backup then resetting your phone
Same problem here Ill try the fxy method,
any of you had solve the problem?

Galaxy S6 Active Ultra Power Save (Brick) Mode

To start, I have lost access to the reaction video of my wife's first pregnancy announcement. So I would even be willing to make a donation to someone who can help me. (If that is against the rules, let me know)
I used an app from the Play store called Package Disabler Pro to disable some of the bloatware on my phone. In doing so, I disabled something necessary for Ultra Power Save Mode to function. (perhaps Touchwiz) I use Nova Launcher. I tried to show UPSM to a friend yesterday and was met with a black screen. The phone was still running, as I could get the notification window to drop down from swiping. But I had no option to leave UPSM in the settings. The settings that were listed were very limited. I tried everything and ended up soft restarting the phone. It booted back up into UPSM with black screen (no launcher). I finally started tinkering around with Recovery and cleared the cache. At some point, I don't know if it was caused by the cleared cache, it stopped booting fully. I now get stuck at the finished ATT boot animation.
I'm at a loss as to the next step. AFAIK there are no custom recoveries for Galaxy S6 Active yet. So pulling data from ADB in recovery is out. The only other option I have seen is a 'dirty' stock rom flash. But I don't even know if that is possible or will work. If there is anyone out there that has any clue what I should be doing, please help me. I need help. :crying:
Thank you.

I'd say give the stock a try. The stock tars for our regular S6 dont wipe data. Let this be a learning experience to backup important items to the cloud or thumb drive

Is there a distinction between using Stock Recovery to flash stock and using Odin? Stock Recovery warns that user data will be formatted. So I'm assuming that it wipes the user data partition. All that aside, does anyone even know how to get ahold of S6 Active tars?
Ah! I have this same problem right now. Note5. Haven't dug myself that far into the hole yet, and I somehow got out of nova launcher and into TouchWiz (safe mode boot probably), but im stuck in grayscale and can't do anything other than the limited settings options or make phone calls. No texting, internet, full settings access, quicksettings, or really any apps but contacts and phone.
tip...

Have tried starting the phone in Safe Mode? Thats what I'd try.
Try what sd_N suggested.
Turn your phone on by holding power button + volume down
When you get the samsung logo, release the power button but keep holding volume down all the way until you get lock screen.
If you are able to boot to safe mode then there's most likely something you have downloaded / something running during your regular boot that crashes / malfunctions.

I found a Solution for those who are still Stuck in Ultra Power Saving Mode.
Send an SMS to your number with Text "google.com"
Notification will appear.
Open the SMS and click the google.com link
Browser will open
Search for a Package DIsabler Software apk -ez disabler or package disabler pro etc.(You should pay the developer later)
Download and Install the app.
You will get Open Option right after Installation is finished.
Enable Emergency Launcher.
Press Home.
Voila, You can now exit UPSM without Factory Reset

I accidently disabeled/deleted the Google app

so I am an Idiot,
I had this issue with my headphones on my phone that google would pop up on random times to ask me wether I needed help from the voice support thingy.
So I looked up some video's on how to fix it and most videos said to just disable/delete the google app from my phone in App manager.
Everything went OK but when I wanted to go to my home screen, an error popped up saying there was no home screen...
I'm like; 'What the hell?!?'
so I turned off my device completely just to discover it wouldn't boot up correctly when I started it again.
now I am stuck with only my bootloader and I can't get back to factory mode, I did not root my device for any of your interests
pls help someone who knows something that might help me
Go to recovery when turning device on and from there do a factory reset?

So you did something in settings, or are you rooted and used some app to delete stuff? The answer to your problems really depends on what you did.
As a quick fix, log into your Google account via a PC and find Nova Launch (or some reputable launcher) and push it to the phone, once it installed press Home and it should ask you to select your Home screen and make sure to tick "Always".
The real problem here is you tried to a fix a problem that didn't fixing, just a quick settings change... A quick thread started here would have probably got the quick answer of turning of Google Assistance Anywhere to fix the problem without messing anything up.

Hi, I did not root my this device and did not delete the home screen from TWRP, just from the application manager. but it's more than just the home screen. I said I've tried to restart the device but when I was booting it up again, I only saw the Motorola logo loading for like 15 minutes.
It does connect to my PC and it recognizes the device, but I can't find it in File Explorer.
I might try to install Nova launcher, just to see if it works or not.
thanks for the reply though

If your not rooted you couldn't have deleted the app needed, only disabled it. Pull down the notification shade twice (or with 2 fingers) and tap the settings gear, scroll to Apps, then scroll to the bottom where disabled apps would be listed and re-enable everything and reboot. If that still doesn't work, push Nova, and as a last resort you can perform a factory reset.
