[REF][DEV]source diff EB13 to EC05 and changed files - Epic 4G Android Development

I wanted to see what changed from EB13 to EC05 in the source. The txt files attached are simply 'diff -r' between the two sources (one for kernel one for platform). I also am attaching the files that are different so you can drop them directly over your EB13 sources and avoid a big download from Samsung and sifting through it to update your sources. Why didn't I make .patch files? Because I don't need them.
Kernel: a few GPIO changes and mainly lcd/video stuff
Platform: set bluez bluetooth permissions and added some text files (not much changed)
No one may care but I figured I would share and save some one a little time and bandwidth.
Rodderik

I Care
Eventually there well be a rom that comes of this. Then I'll be able to say nope or yep there's a reason to switch. Especially if it's viper rom.

awesome sauce rodd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Platform files for AOSP that samsung throws us are just bones to say that they are gpl compliant those files really are quite useless if you have ever tried to build android with them. Thanks for the kernel tidbits Rodderik that is nice to know what they did change in that since thats all we can really use.

Thanks rodderik! Curious, does this also reflect changes in the modem from EB13 to EC05?

negative no modem stuff

i've merged and compiled the kernel to my sources and all is well

Im running synergy which I might add is absolutely amazing, is there even a reason to switch my modem from eb13 to ec05.... I'm alittle confused on the actual differences.

Flashing the EC05 modem alone is worth it.
As far as I can see, my 3g speeds are better.

O.k., I know this response DOES NOT belong here, but since it will probably turn into a big debate here......U guys can use odin to safely flash just the EC05 modem on any EB13 rom. JUST THE MODEM! I have not only done this myself, but have done extensive research and it is completely SAFE to do. My reception and download speeds are now 2-2.5x more than on the EB13 modem
My apologies Rodderik, I'm not trying to hijack ur thread.....just want to eliminate alot of future can I do this or thats

Recompiled libdvm.so for froyo. Testing for improved responsiveness

I recompiled the libdvm.so from the aosp. I don't know if its any better or worse I'm still checking into it, but it does vary from stock. I've got it running on my phone and have seen no problems. It doesn't use an edify script so it wont flash in cwm3, I'll work on that later. It also will not work for those using CyanogenMod, that should be optimized anyway
Just observe and report for me if you can, any bugs, glitches or problems.
This is just for testing purposes, and I'm not responsible if something retarded happens, you assume the risk.
Added a few more libs, and I'll get to the edify scripts eventually. if you want to flash one of the ones not converted just push it via adb to /system or take an existing update.zip with an edify script and replace the lib in it with the one you want.
libwebcore.so - Random app issues.
libaudio.so - Upon request. Devin on IRC flashed to CM6 seemed to work. - May cause bootloop
The stock, and recompiled ones are both here.

This libdvm.so is recompiled so it can take advantage of ARM CPUs. Install it and it may run non-native code significantly faster.

Thanks. Daryelv
For all the people *****ing over making their phones faster, Its amazing to me they wont actually try **** that is different, and may actually make their phone run smoother and bog down less.
this may be a noob question - do i just flash these files in recovery and it just replaces my /system/lib/libdvm.so and then if i want to revert back, just flash the stock? thanks for the hard work!
Yes chibucks.
However, if you have the new cwm3 you will have to either manually push it via adb, or use root explorer as I've not got an edify script for it yet.
I wasn't able to flash it with recovery 3.0.0.5 so I ended up pushing the libdvm.so file to /system/lib with adb. It's working fine so far. Thanks.

might want to ad something along the lines of "may increase speed" in the title, alot of ppl just probbly see it as "הדר מחדש את ליבדום.אז for froyo"
I will give it a shot a little later and report back
So far so good. Running it on modified stock DK28. (No rom. Just removed unused Sprint bloatware and added Hulu support, Gingerbread Keyboard, and this). I'm also on the EXT4 file system.
No freezes, crashes or FC yet. Getting the usual lag and stutter I get the first few seconds after waking the phone. It does seem a little more responsive once the phone gets going.
Im running on my rom I posted over at sdx pjree. Its similar to what you have, just in rom form. I see the choppiness just after boot, but not after wake. Ill flash back to stock and test with a less modified system.

Curious what toolchain you used to compile this. I just completed a fresh Froyo compile with the new NDK and the libdvm.so I came up with is almost 100k smaller. No idea if it runs..
I had been having issues with the Launcher app being very unresponsive when switch back to it from an app. This fix seems to have alleviated that issue. The UI seems overall more responsive. Great patch, I would love to see this integrated into the Quantum rom and others.

I dont really use benchmark software a lot, maybe 0xbench.
To install on cwm3 just extract the libdvm.so from the zip and push it to /system/lib
I dont know that benchmarks would change much, they shouldnt.
Ive got a few more to compile ill post them up in this thread.
all I did to compile this was use aosp guide to install the froyo source pulled the vendor files from the phone and used the device files noob had in the cm6 github.

UPDATE 4.10.11 - Moving my learning curve towards a more user-biased concept - see x99percent or scaryghoul for GREAT kernels!
OP Here - http://romrepo.info/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=20
WARNING! Will not have wifi working and will not work properly on cm nightlies 31+, newest MIUI, Evervolvs new release may still not have the new video drivers. See original link for details.
Git: https://github.com/smoothtaste/speedy-gb
Proof of concept, with my sd reader fried I need a bigger test base to see if its going in the right direction and actually being used by end-users. If anyone is up to helping me with merges and such while I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere it'd be pretty sweet
Original goal: bring an OC/UV kernel to the table for 2.3 aosp roms with proper smartass governor implementation *as per x99percents interpretation. Then as kernel matures implement into aosp build (A few of my fellow users have agreed to or already are working on this.)
Git cloned toastcfh, not used to having to list things publicly so my git is sloppy. ENTIRE kernel base is toastcfh. I just cloned him a few moments too early, cause the video drivers are already outdated.
Inserted freq/voltage tables found in x99's sense kernels. Also implemented x99s interpretation of the governors, great work.
Very special thanks to scaryghoul for repeatedly telling me how far too far really is, for giving me a couple great scripts (which I then misused, hence broken wifi.) And for just being a cool mofo who knows some shiz.
UPDATE 4.10.11 - Moving my learning curve towards a more user-biased concept - see x99percent or scaryghoul for GREAT kernels!
You have been warned, I am teaching myself at my own pace and there might not be ANY reason YOU should use this. Unless you wanna help me get better, of course.
REMEMBER! Not cm7 31+ or newest miui. Will have a VERY hard time scrolling.

Changelog!
V.0.0.fail
Merged with toastcfh 3.27 - integrated x99percents freq tables and governor patches. Made into flashable zip thanks to scaryghouls script - and in turn destroyed wifi functionality. My mistake :X
If anyone does this on the correct roms I'm looking for battery life and performance infos. If we get a lil attention, we'll go ahead and bring the public release up to date.

G2X Rom Comparison Chart

I have started a comparison chart for the currently available ROM's for the G2X. Since we are just getting started with this device it seems like a great time.
I have made the spreadsheet editable by anyone, I encourage and would appreciate any help with keeping it current. I also do not mind any improvements you see fit, such as adding or changing columns, conditional formatting etc. I just put this together in the time I had available today and it is a rough draft. I know some of you here have much more experience in using Google docs and making something like this so do your thing! I'd like this to be a community project.
PLEASE do not intentionally falsify any information or in any way harm the integrity of this project, we all benefit from this site and there is nothing funny about ruining this for others. Also, I will make a nightly backup.
I can't seem to embed this into the post so here is a link.

Bionix has kernel .1.1 according to its changelog?
It seems you are trying to make a point or something with the voodoo lagfix?
If none of the phones have it, why would there be a column then?? The column would only be necessary if one of the roms had it. Why put it in there?
We will never have a lag-fix as we already have a great file system (ext3 and ext4) only reason that would be needed is for Samsungs ****ty rfs file system. Might as well remove it from the chart
Good comparison chart though. ^^
Edit: Oh and mine does have spare parts, boot and shutdown animation changed as well

You know what, I actually re-flashed my old vibrant for the wife to use the same day I flashed my first ROM onto this phone so I remembered hearing the lagfix lady while I was flashing a ROM on here and so I thought.. well, maybe it was a little late when I put this together. Column removed.
Once again, if there is something silly like this that you guys see please feel free to make the change, I'm not claiming ownership of this spreadsheet.

Hi tweezit! Thanks for taking the time to reply. I am running your ROM now and its sexy Updated your info.
Removed the lagfix column, I guess it had just become a permanent part of my psyche.
Should I replace with a file system column (ext3 or ext4)? Or is that not important?
Also, is it safe to assume everyone is running the same base band at the moment?
Good topic
My ROM info is lacking
Stock launcher2
Included: T-mobile Theme Manager/Chooser, SpareParts, FileManager, Torch, DSP Manager, ROM Manager and WiFi Calling.
Kernel is 2.6.32.41 with latest patches, updates, OC/UV etc etc

Added Gigglebread and File System column.
Thanks to everyone who has edited with more info!
This is going to sound petty, but can we add a column for HD recording support? I know the leaked build doesn't support it (that's why I went back to stock), do any of the custom ROMs support it yet that are not Froyo-based? I presume all froyo ROMs would support HD recording with the LG camera apk.

[ROM][12-15] Space Pirate 1.0 RC1 {2.3.5 - KJ7}

Let me kick this off by saying I am not the most knowledgeable guy around here, and I don't have as much time to dedicate to working on ROMs as I would like, but I would like to share what I have been working on. This is just me sharing my own personal compilation/build. If you know me from the Inspire or Captivate, you might know what to expect.
This ROM is using playin4sheezy's BoneStocketeer as the base, mainly because my Beta1-6 builds had problems with no vibrate...didnt notice it because i dont use it, but it is what it is.
Features:
2.3.5 KJ7 from Rogers (bonestocketeer):
stripped, tweaked, pounded
14-toggle port by YoDerk
Stockish Kernel .1 by RomRacer
obviously no CIQ because of the KJ7 rogers base
ICS Animations
Extended Power menu
accurate battery/stock battery icon w/%
stock look
all homescreen icons/widgets removed for a clean install
language is set to American English
overall system tweaks and increased response
This rom has a very stock look to it, but is very quick. I am using stockish kernel due to too many SOD's with DaG kernel (if you dont normally have SOD issues with his kernel, go ahead and flash it)
I am not a flashy person when it comes to rom building, but i like it sleek and fast. Give it a try and see what you think. I am continuously working on my own build, but i will not release anything to you guys that i have not been thoroughly testing myself. this build has been over a week of me working on it as I found time to build/test.

overclocking is dependent on the kernel, not the rom. if you install Da_G's kernel, you can overclock.

the only reason Flash to Stock was needed on the captivate was because of their horrible RFS. they have done things properly and now use an ext4 filesystem, so its not needed. just wipe and flash

[DEV/ROM][FROM SOURCE][CAF GB 2.3.6][build #20][3/21]

Here is my Skyrocket ROM built from Code Aurora Forum source. This is Android 2.3.6. It is not even close to a daily driver and probably never will be.
DO NOT INSTALL THIS UNLESS YOU ARE VERY EXPERIENCED IN DEBUG AND KNOW HOW TO USE 'adb'.
I am posting this to help with the effort to build a community ICS ROM. Perhaps my device tree will help. As such, I do not plan on spending any more time debugging the issues with the rom. I would rather focus on helping the community get an ICS build going.

What works?
calls (no audio), sms, 2D graphics, wifi, bluetooth
What doesn't work?
cell data, audio, nfc, int+ext sdcards
Instructions for install:
In CWM, wipe factory
In CWM, install this zip
Reboot + wait up to 3 minutes
If you get the lock screen with no way to unlock, connect to your computer and run "adb reboot". You should then get the proper unlock slider.
Notes:
sdcard is detected incorrectly, so do NOT allow it to attempt a format (it will say 'damaged sdcard'--just ignore this)
Even though it says "No SIM Card" calls in and out will work, although no audio...
Updates: 3/21/12
Added link to build instructions on Github
Pushed commits to Github that simplify the build

You should be more optimistic
It will work some day, don't think it won't ever be working.

just for my understanding, what is the hurdle to getting data to work, seems like it is always the hardest thing to enable.
For gb builds on our phone I always see call audio being a hurdle

Nrm is right. Audio seems to be the biggest hurdle.
This rom makes an LTE connection but the data connection just isn't used. Not sure why, but this problem seems easier than audio (which I have had no luck debugging so far)

Oh wow, if you get AOSP GB fully operational for the phone (other then call audio, dunno whats up with that), we could get CM7 working fully (with source), and get official!
I really hope you succeed.

Thanks Longcat. Like alphadog pointed out, I'm not actively working on this one right now in favor of helping out the ICS efforts. But if someone else would like to collaborate or even pick up where I left off, please have at it. My reason for starting this ROM was to eventually get CM7 fully stable, as you suggested.
I wish someone would be able to pick this up I understand the importance of ics but the hurdles with gb seem far fewer than ics and would tide the masses over once I get my other hdd set up with Ubuntu I hope to take a peek

FYI: I updated the OP with a link to the build instructions. I also pushed changes to my Github that simplifies and cleans up some of the build.

Any links on him talking about status of it for us to follow? I checked 989 general and dev real fast. Didn't see anything.

Yes, a link to his post would help. I searched XDA and Github, finding only stuff about Vibrant roms that he has done.
