Just switched from an xperia x10i to a droid x....
Xperia had contacts, call history and DIALER all in one application...
With the droid X, unless I am missing something, contacts and dialer are separated (though dialer has contacts, you can not change or edit them)...
So a big ol... WTF mate.
Also. New to verizon, how can I get rid of the 'In case of emergency' crap?

Motorola's stupid customizations include having contacts and dialer in different apps.
Try another dialer app, like Dialer One.
Try YouLu Address Book. It's awesome.

takePhone is a great one too, and looks really sharp. Has speed dials, predictive numbers, names, or business etc.
TouchPal dialer is another good one that includes contacts, favorites, and predictive dialing. I find that it runs faster than DialerOne.

With the exception of dialer one, none of them have an option to only display contacts with numbers. And that really bothers me as my contacts list is overflowing with fb contacts I can't call.
Okay, not to highjack, but on the same stem of question:
What does your favorite dialer app have that the stock doesn't. Besides the contacts thing. I think the phone contacts are fine for the app. I like the predictive dialing they included in the new update. it syncs with facebook pictures/links contacts which is really nice and keeps things organized. And as mentioned above, it ONLY links phone contacts instead of my hundreds of random facebook friends.
And for this exercise, exclude Youlu from any possible suggestions. It isn't a dialer if it doesn't have a * or # key for god sake.
The reason I ask is because there is so many, and there must be one that just blows everything else away. But DialerOne looked really boring to me. Felt like I was just using the stock dialer.
EDIT: Just tried Takephone (had to rush because I only had 15 minutes or else I just bough a THREE DOLLAR DIALER.) I like it a lot at first, as I did most other dialer apps. But you can't edit the contacts really, and though it links to the facebook pictures, it doesn't link to facebook. The stock dialer, you click on the name, and you get birthday, facebook, phone number, websites, etc...
It also brough back some duplicates that were linked in the stock app. If I have a "Jessie" in my phone book, and her name is "Jesi" on Facebook, I can link them so I have all of the info in one place. Takephone didn't recognize that link for all of my contacts, which is annoying. I'm very anal about having detailed information about all of my contacts.
I think I'm starting to realize there isn't a dialer app that can beat stock droid x froyo.

By stock do you mean stock HTC Sense dialer and People app?

I will take my stock TW dialer and contacts over those 3rd party apps any day. My stock apps on my Epic offer all that they do and in a neat factory looking fashion!

My favourite dialer by far!
stock meant the new droidx dialer that came with this new update. they included a predictive dialer finally.
I think dialerone is the only other dialer that actually has the features dialers need, (again, still can't believe anyone would want Youlu without * and # keys and it doesn't even sync with facebook pictures) but it just seems like the exact same thing as the stock dialer.

The only time you would ever need to press * or # is when you're already in a call, presumably in one of those voice-guided menus. And when that is the case, dialerone or youlu's dial pad are not given access, but the stock Android dialer's dial pad.

Is this the one?
Do you know whether it's possible for it to work on Non-motoblur or whatever ROMS? Like HTC Sense apps don't work no non-sense ROMs.
Cheers

Only jumping in here because I downloaded Youlu yesterday and was looking for more information. As has been said, it didn't have the * and # keys, but this morning it said 'update available' and lo and behold they've appeared! Not tested them out but I'll assume they work ....
My reason for going for Youlu over the stock people app on a Desire HD was that the people app would not just show a contacts address completely (unless the whole thing would fit on that one small line). Now some people will think that's no big deal but I use the phone as an address book and when you want to send someone a card (Xmas just gone!!) you just want a reminder of the address. What I don't want to happen by default and with no way of changing it, is to have a mapping application lauched. With Youlu you get to see the complete address and only then do you get a mapping application launched (launches Google maps on my Desire HD even after the update that means that the people app launches HTC's Locations).
I still think there's a gap for a good contact app for Android!

Going through these posts, I find 2 dialers that seem really nice. One is the Youlu and the other is the Ray Dialer.
The Youlu works really well. I only wish it had a darker theme to match the default GingerBread black for the Nexus S.
I liked the Ray Dialer a lil more, but it lacked the option of going to the favorites, contacts & log. Yes, the log appears, by default, but liked the option of those Phone/contact/log/favorites/.
What I liked about Ray Dialer is that when I type a name / partial number and then choose the name, it shows me the list of all numbers that the contact has. It also allows me to send and sms or email or whatever I choose. Basically it takes me to the default contacts.
Youlu too shows me all the numbers, but it does not show me if the number is a home, office or mobile number. Also, it does not show me options to do anything other than call.
Switched over to TB from Nexus1 and the stock sms app and now when I attach a picture to an SMS it automatically creates a slideshow. I just want a single pic attached I hate how it comes through as a slideshow and dont want to send the picture out that way. Is there anyway to solve this problem short of a 3rd party app or rooting and getting rid of senseui (For the record I have installed Handcent for now and plan on rooting and getting rid of sense just not there yet)
I'm confused to what you mean? If you just put one picture in it won't send it out as a slideshow. I have sent a bunch of MMS and no one ever gets it in slide-show form.
It creates the template and will convert it to a slideshow mms message if you add another picture, but for just one it shouldn't be doing that. Are you on the stock rom?
Yes stock and unrooted. It states it is creating a slideshow with one photo, I never sent it out to check and now for the second time in 10 days all of my sms and mms are gone, i restored them all from SD Card when I got the new phone and they have all disappeared
Yeah check with someone who you sent it to first, it always makes it look like it is making it a slideshow, but that is just preparing it in case you decide to add an additional photo.
Got it thanks, stock app didn't handle it that way and I hate when I get pictures as slideshow
I'm noticing this with picture messages that are being sent to me. I've gotten one from two different people in the past week and both are slideshows. It's kinda annoying and not sure how to fix it.
YES, it is extremely annoying. It did that with the EVO on Sprint, and my friend's Vibrant on T-Mobile does it also.
You have to tap it and pause it to view it for more than a few seconds and you can't zoom.
Pic quality viewing when you get it by text seems to suck as well.
I just sent htc an email about this when i get a response back I will post what they say

Same here.. had a friend send me some pics through sms. I asked him how he sent them as a slideshow.. he said, I didn't. Now I realize it's my phone doing it. It only happens from certain people though. He was using an iPhone.
Been like this since HTC released Android 2.2 with sense. My dinc didn't do it on 2.1. Horrible idea wish they'd revert back.

It refreshs data and I got mms message
I use handcent sms and never have this problem.
I don't like any of the stock apps with the droids.
Alright so i know this isn't ROM specific. My problem is and it's not a big deal just annoying. I have all my contacts set with Google. I have one person where i have his number separate from his mms ([email protected]) so it's 2 different contacts. We'll say Matt and Matts mms.
When i try to text his number it automatically puts Matts mms in the address but it will text him normally. Has anyone had this problem or know a fix. Or do you even understand what I'm trying to say?

Try just putting ([email protected]) in the email section of the Matt's contact. Stock MMS on my phone will show numbers and email addresses.

Let me guess his normal number is a gvoice number and the mms number is his phone right?
I think Google will merge contacts and if Matts mms was before Matt in your contact list it is using the first name as the default name. Also if the numbers are different Try renaming like MmsMatt that way it wont combine them again.
I have a issue where I have a cousin and uncle that are jr/sr and it merging my cousins info and numbers with his dad. I worked around this by Changing the first names. Then Facebook contacts autosynced(forgot to uncheck it) and now google contacts has both of them all messed up. And somehow it synced the goof back to facebook contacts. And I can not find a way to fix that so I have to make sure I click the correct name when texting and calling those two.
I'll try those thanx

Hey guys,
I'm in the process of trying to figure out why when I receive an SMS the Productivity Lock screen only displays the numbers, and not the name. I dont have multiple contacts, and all of the contacts were ported in via my google account.
I've tested out a few situations where I go into the contact and edit the number from the 1 (###) ###-#### to just ######### and it seems to be successful, but considering the amount of contacts I have to edit, this does not seem like something I want to be doing for the next 3 hours.
Does anyone have an easier trick for me on this one?
Thanks a ton!
What you have done seems to be the only thing that works. I can't find any other way. It sucks! Lol.

Anyone else using the "productivity" lockscreen? I really like it, but when i get texts from some people, they show as the contacts phone number instead of the name. When i open the phone, it shows up as the contact name.
Even more weird, it only does this for some numbers. Others show up fine on the lockscreen.
All my contacts are saved on my google account, and all use the same naming convention in the contact info.
I'm having the exact same problems, anyone have a fix?
I've noticed this as well. Hopefully a firmware update will fix this.
I was having this issue as well. It has to do with whether or not you are using the area code in your contacts. Add 1+ the area code and that should fix it.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
the +1 fix didn't work for me..
The only way I've been able to fix it is to remove the hyphens from the numbers.
Instead of 123-456-7890 I had to change it to 1234567890. Now messages display correctly. It;s a pain in the ass to change them though, so this seems like a temporary fix.
I saw this in another thread. I'd search and give credit, but I'm at work and a bit lazy.
Chime in if you want credit.
