Hello
I deleted the files
/data/fota/fota_delta_dp1
/data/fota/fota_delta_dp2
What are those files for?
I opened them in hexeditor and it's a file full of FFFFFF FFFFFFF FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF
I have no idea what it is and why it uses so much space
I deleted them and restarted my phone
I think the phone recovers those files when rebooted
Anyone knows what are those files?
The files
/data/fota/fota_delta_dp1
/data/fota/fota_delta_dp2
auto-generate every time the phone turns on
I would like to
1) Auto-delete those files on every boot
2) block the files from being auto-generated
3) link the files to an external SD so I can save at least 250 MB of space on my DATA folder
Thanks in advance, we need to get rid of these files that are occupying 25% of the internal storage

I have rooted my Samsung Galaxy S i9000 with Super One Click Root. I have tried to install the EXT2 tools on RyanZA's One Click Lag Fix, but it warns me that /system/lib needs at least 1.0mb to continue. Even when I force it, it does not work.
I used Andexplorer to navigate to the folder in question and there are lots of files in there. Does anyone know if it is safe to delete these files, or another workaround to make this folder bigger? Or any other solution to my problem!
Any help greatly appreciated.

Delete something that's not important from /system - do NOT delete anything in /system/lib!
Check /system/app/ - perhaps something in there you don't want/need - be judicious. OEM Live Wallpapers take a fair bit of space.
Check /system/media/ - perhaps stuff in there you don't need.
Thanks djmcnz for your reply, but I am afriad it doesn't really help. It says that there is no space in the /system/lib folder. I don't see how a folder can run out of space. Are you saying that if I delete something out of the media or app folder then it will create space in the /lib folder?

Yes, it's complaining about partition space, not folder space. It's just like a normal computer.
Everything under /system/ is on the system partition and shares the same space.
Be careful what you delete, the wrong thing could mean reinstalling the rom.
OK many thanks for your help. On a final note then is there no way of increasing the partition size of the system folder then?
Hey, just wanted to say thank you! That was exactly what it needed. Using the supermanager and giving it root rights allowed me to remove a few live wallpapers and that made the ext2 tools work and then the lagfix. Ended with a 1700 quadrant score.
since i have successfully swapped memory before using the vold.fstab here for gingerbread..i though it might be done again using xxkpq + JP_MIUI_V8 since its stable and has faster release cycle than others..
after doing the vold.fstab procedure, SD card as checked in Settings->Phone becomes unavailable..
maybe this GB version or the fact that i used UC Kernel V09 screws the start/end memory targets..
hopefully i would be able to restore using the backup.
my first attempt to restore results in this error:
cp /sdcard/external_SD/vold.fstab.png /system/etc
cp: can't stat '/sdcard/external_SD/vold.fstab.png': Not a directory
Check this forum out, it's for froyo but the Procedure is same, maybe it'll help

hi sikander, thanks!
i've been trying that and some other linux kungfu from different forums(android and linux) in file copying/moving but somehow to no avail as of the moment...worst case scenario is maybe i really need to reflash kpq+miuiv8 again...
I am also using modified vold.stab with stock xxkpq and uc kernel v6 using root explorer. instead of using adb shell use root explorer to restore file.
Why .png
Cheers

hi bscraze, that's what was in the original swap thread...but just to be sure...i tried vold.fstab only without the png extension..yet the result is the same.
i have now restored my nandroid backup since i need to use the phone. i was hoping to discover the cause and share but i failed
lastly, i confirm the transfer from backup vold copy to external_SD is successful, only the cp command from external_SD to system/etc failed.

Hi. I just found out that apk files are kept in the device after installation of the app.
I just recently downloaded a file explorer app and I found out that the apk files of the free games which I downloaded and installed from android market are kept in this folder:
/mnt/asec (I'm using Samsung Galaxy Ace)
There are individual folders for each game, and in each folder are a lib folder and the apk file. For example:
Fruit Ninja folder (which is found in mnt/asec folder) contains a lib folder and an apk file.
Fruit Slice folder (which is also found in mnt/asec folder) contains a lib folder and an apk file.
My question is, is it ok to delete these apk files? Will the games still work?
Also, can I send these apk files to someone else via bluetooth so they may download the apps without having to visit android market?
yeah you can delete the apk file after installing any app for it to still function, I do it all the time. Yes you can send the apk file to your friend so they can install it. If you're still cautious, try doing a trial run with one apk file...send it to your friend first, then delete, see if it works.
The .apk files are like setup files for windows. Once installed, you don't need the apk, especially if you are backing up with Titanium or similar backup program.
follow up question
Hi. Thanks guys.
Is everything from the android market ".apk"? Is it possible that some have a different extension? I downloaded a dictionary app, I can't be sure but I think it's a .zip file.
Thank you.
pakattack
I tried to delete the apk file. It cannot be deleted.
However, I copied it to my sd card, uninstalled the app, re-installed it using the one already in my sdcard, and it installed just fine.
I still want to be able to delete the apk file that is in the system though (/mnt/asec).
Any ideas or do I just have to deal with it?

I agree with deleting it won't be a problem but sending to a friend?

WillShaka, like I said, I tried to delete it. I can't. Not allowed.
I don't know why. I'm using ES File explorer
not sure if this works but have you tried unmounting the sd and delete?

Also, and I don't mean to veer out of topic (this question is often ignored in Q&A forum), if I use Odin to upgrade my stock firmware instead of using Kies, will it erase all my data? I have a feeling it will...

Yes, you can delete the APK after installation. But the APKs in /system/app/ need to stay where they are to function appropriately

Hello guys...first of all, i would like to thank you for your time reading my thread and about my problem
And i am sorry if i posted this on the wrong section.
I have been searching for days and in many forums, also googled about my problem...but to no use
I hope the pro's out there can help me out.
Okay..i am playing maplestory live deluxe game from the play store.
The problem is that i want to restore a maplestory live save game file. The save game file is from another link on the internet, which someone else played and uploaded it for other people to use. I want to use it. The save game has many godly items that i need.
But i dunno how to patch the save game file to my maplestory live file, so that i can use that save game.
I use android device (samsung galaxy tab 2 7.0 gt-p3100)
It has [email protected] rooted
Already install titanium backup
The person who posted the save game link said that, the save game file must be extracted and placed under sdcard/titanium backup folder on my device. Then open the titanium backup app and search for the folder...then hit restore.
The biggest problem is, my titanium backup could not detect the save game file that i got from the link.
I know the file is not corrupt cause other people who downloaded it has no problem whatsoever in restoring the file.
I already tried menu>prefrences>backup folder location>detect>whole device on my TB, but it says "no backup location was found"
The save game file is there under sdcard/titanium backup. I can see it clearly...but for some reason TB cannot detect it under the backup/restore tab.
I have also tried reboot to recovery and fix permission...but the problem persist.
Do help me...and thank you in advance
Anyone??...help..
I'm not sure but what i think is u already have a backup in ur titanium backup so it wont show to restore data from the new saved file.
So try this
1. Take a backup of tb folder (in case u mess up)
2. Except the apk file in tb folder in sd card delete other 2 files.
3. Then try the same procedure as above (i.e. copy the data to tb folder again....and so on)

Delete other 2 files? Which file?
There are 3 files on your tb folder
1. Apk
2. Tar.gz (data)
3. Properties file (all compressed)
U have to delete the tar.gz (the data file) in ur tb folder and then put the new data file in that folder and try restore again.

Negative...does not work for me.
Okay...its my first time using TB..
I think the main problem is that i dunno how to access folder or file from TB.
Whenever i hit the Backup/Restore in TB it only opens a list of app that says "Ordered by app name (click to change)"
The list of app name is very long and have 3 colours : red, green and white.
Well i know the red coloured is the OS Kernel and can malfunction your device if u delete or wipe it.
But i do not see any file or folder to access from there (Backup/Restore)
So, how do i backup or restore any file or folder if it isn't there..?
For example, u said to backup my tb folder...i know that the tb folder is under sdcard/titanium backup..
But i don't see it in the Backup/Restore in TB. Is there something i'm missing here?

I didnt mean backup/restore tab ... what i said was just copy your tb folder from sd card to pc in case u mess and can restore easily.
And can u just send me the file so that i can check on my side if it works.
Ok..i dunno how to put the file in this post.
But u can get the file here.. http://www.mediafire.com/?g9pvpg26gqtfg
Its a list of save game that this person uploaded and share with other people to use
I need the maplestorylvdelx.zip file and having trouble with it.
Like i said..when i extract it and put it under sdcard/titanium backup...TB just not detecting it.
When i hit Backup/Restore in TB and click on Maplestory icon to restore data...there is no restore option...only backup option.

Well the problem at last .... its not a tb backup file..
If u wanna see how does a tb saved game file actually look like, download a7 (i.e. asphalt 7 game file) from the same link u gave me and open the zip.
Those are the tb files needed to restore game data using tb software like i told u previously (tar.gz and properties file).
Now for your solution
As your file is simple save game data file......
You only need to copy the downloaded file (i.e. maplestory.zip) to root/data/data
And start the game and u will get the saved data.
Hit thanks if i helped you

Okay...first of all, thank you for your patience with me.
Now i finally know the difference between a TB save file and a normal save game data.
Just one last noob question...
U said to extract the maplestory.zip then put it under root/data/data right?
Errr...where do i find the root/data/data folder?....lol
When i open My Files under storage>sdcard , there is no root or root/data/data folder..
But, i do have ES File Explorer and ASTRO File Manager app..
When i use both this app to look in my device...there is also no root/data/data folder... BUT there is a folder named root that is located under device...along with other folders (acct, cache, config, d and so on)
Is that the folder u are mentioning? But the root folder is empty.
And exactly what do i see in this root/data/data folder anyway?
Is it empty or have something in it?

A custom ROM dev may choose to add the new CM theme engine to his/her ROM. If you were to install a theme (via Play Store or .apk from XDA, NOT themes that you flash or where you modify files) you use the theme manager to use the theme.

You deleted a symlink that linked to your internal storage, thus it deleted everything. You can't see the symlink in a file explorer while in Android but while connected to a PC, you can.

wow never expected it to be so complicated. Does this symbolic link show up only in custom rom's, if no then normal users like myself would probably mistake it for an empty folder and delete it.
Thanks for the explanation.
