Battery. LoL. 2G :-) - myTouch 4G General

Kind of random, but to those who are looking to save your battery life. Just run in 2G mode until you need the speed. Somehow, I have been unplugged for 5 hours and am at 90%. Normally, I'm at 40 by now. It was either that I installed Sidekick (doubtful), or the fact that I forgot to turn the phone back to 4G when I lost service last night
Just thought I would share, I got excited to see my battery isn't draining like a fat kid finishing off cake that I had to share (the info, not the cake)

Have you tried flashing your kernel? I leave my 4g and wifi on all day and I still had 97% left after I got off work and the phone being unplugged for 10 hours. I surfed for a bit and downloaded a few apps at work too. I'm running ultimate glacier with the smartass kernel running overclocked at 1843mhz.

Crappy Battery life, try this!

So I had just gotten done posting a smartass remark about how I had gotten two days on one charge with my phone, only to pull it off the charger go to work, and have the sucker die in 4 hours.
I figured out what I did, and you should try it too, it may help you out. I am running the leaked radio btw.
So earlier today I decided to go into ##778# and type the password 000000 and then modem settings and rev A and change it from Enable to eHRPD because I figured with the 4G network back I could use the dual radio 3G network. Well That is when my battery life went to ****. I pulled my phone out of my pocket to it burning hot and at 9%. I quickly changed it back to Enabled, and it survived the 9% all the way to 5% over a period of another 6 hours.
So unless you need to talk and use data at the same time, use the regular 3G network like I am, and see if your battery life doesn't improve. I still am on 4G all day, but this was literally the only feature I changed on my phone between amazing battery life and crappy battery life.
You can still do talk/data at the same time on Rev A with 3G.

Right and at the moment, no thunderbolt should have eHRPD. No matter what verizon says. So we're all running on rev a right now, and you must have done something else. EHRPD will not waste your battery any more than normal.

Actually mine is set to eHRPD. Just bought it from Vzw a few days ago, rooted and flashed DBamf 161 along with the new radio and Im still set to it.
Making me think I should switch it hmmm.... hmmmmm

I just checked mine and it was set to eHRPD by default. Does this mean I should change it to enabled or leave it alone?
It doesn't really matter what it's set to. It seems as though Verizon has made all Thunderbolts default to Rev A in 3G areas after the outage rather than eHRPD regardless of what the modem setting is. You can check under About Phone-Network-Mobile Network Type
I use the LTE on/off app and Juice Defender Beta to increase battery life.
Set my phone to eHRPD then rebooted it and it went back to enabled I think Verizon is doing a tower by tower fix.

what kernel/governer do you use?
I'm running das bamf 1.6 remix with the stock radio and the kernel it came with. I know that it isn't really necessary to wipe but I did. I used a battery calibration app and auto brightness.

I'm currently using Tesla Coil 1.7.1 with imoseyon's batt saver kernel, setCPU using the smartass governor.
Today my battery life was absolutely horrible: 6 hours from 100% to 19% with 1 hour of screen on time at ~25% brightness, 8 mins of call time and maybe 2 hours of music off of my SD card.
I just can't figure this phone out...
I have noticed that as well. Some days my battery rocks, and some days it sinks like a rock. Not sure why. It's as unpredictable as my wife! LOL
sent from my B.A.M.F Thunderbolt
The other thing I do is if I know I am not going to use my 3G or 4G connection I turn it off until I need it. This Rom I use has a widget for switching it on or off.
sent from my B.A.M.F Thunderbolt
The battery sipper kernel is the only kernel for me. Using the same Rom I went from about 6 hours of constant 4g to over a day of 4g. I do have the extended battery. I leave 4g on ALL day and get more battery life than I did on any other phone. I love that Damn kernel.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
So does changing the modem do anything or not? I just checked and my Rev A setting is eHRPD and under about phone, it says CDMA-eHRPD. I have not changed anything other than turn LTE off when not needed, and when I turn it off I select CDMA auto (PRL). I am using the new radio and BAMF 1.6. I get decent battery life so I am not too concerned, but I am curious.

Only 6 hours battery life

running das BAMF 1.7 and the lean kernel i am only getting 6 hours at best with what i would consider as light usage. when i am actually using the phone i get about 1% usage per minute. any ideas as to what is going wrong?
If you're on the standard battery then nothing is wrong, that is common.
What I do is keep my mobile network (4G) off as much as I can. My battery is a lot better when I do that.

Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Use wifi as much as possible. Shut off data when not using. Don't use 4G unless needed. Minimize screen on time. Turn off autosync. Switch to a different kernel, etc. Juice defender really helped me, also. Make sure you set your CPU to minimum when screen is off. Two days probably isn't realistically possible with the stock battery, but you can probably get more.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I use juice defender and then also LTE on off and only run in 3G. I get easily 15 hours with 60% battery left
I'm not in a 4g area, I get about 12 hours with 3 or 4 hours of screen time. Stay on WiFi as much as possible. Try calibration the battery.
Sent from my Thunderbolt
Run bamf 2.0 on the latest imo kernel? I usually get about 10 to 18 hours on the stock battery depending on usage. 4G enabled 24/7.

Sounds like an issue with the software, more specifically the kernal. Are you rooted and running a rom/kernal combo? If so, try reflashing. If that doesn't work, try a new combo.
I've found a happy medium that I can live with... getting anywhere between 10-16 hours with around ~2 hours of screen time.
Running bamf stripped 1.7 using its stock kernel with the smartass governor and underclocking to 368/245 when screen is off.

OH NO.. Help.. Sudden Battery Drop..

I usually get around a days worth of battery life with medium to heavy usage..
Last night i charged my phone 100% and when i woke up after 5 hours it was completely out of Battery.. I didnt use it overnight.. Any idea what could have caused this??
The phone too wasnt awake..
My phone is around 1 month old..
Edit: Unrooted phone

Ok for you guys having battery life problems Here is what I did .My phone was dead in six hours. After doing this I am at 2% per hours no problems. Even though I have only one sync which is HTC mail on demand I did not set times within the mail app to sync you need to set those parameters to only sync once every two hours in peak hours and one every 6 hours in offpeake time. I found all this out by using better battery stats partial wakelocks and current widget I hope this helps a few people! I unplugged my phone at 8:45 AM yesterday and am at 42% right now so It is running like a champ.

About 33 hrs w/ WiFi OFF, 30 hrs on. With use: calls, messaging, Facebook, ect...... maybe about 22 hrs. Running apps all day are GoLauncher, GoPower, Magic Locker.... ect..
i get about 14 hours before i have to charge on a regular day
Cell signal quality and whether the cell radio is on make a huge difference for me.
I spend most of my time where I have wifi and now turn off the cell radio during those times, getting upwards of 30h on one charge (including occasional cell radio usage). Before I did this, I'd usually get through the day but not much more, around 14h.
I'm currently using Easy Battery Saver. It is making a lot of difference. Been playing around with the different settings. I will report back after a full charge than discharge.

Why does it seem like my battery sucks. Or at least when i listen to tune in radio at work. 8am ill be at 100% and if i listen to radio for a couple hours by 12 noon ill be at 15%. That listening threw Bluetooth, wifi and GPS off, brightness all the way down. I no 4g kills ur battery way faster. But even if i turn 4g off battory still dies fast while listening to internet radio.
Any ideas why

Actually I do always hit the home button, to get from one app to launcher to another app, ext. If nor home, how do u get out of the app? Back button?
Sent from my SGH-T769 using xda premium
Fairly typical. GPS is always on 24-7 and wifi on most of the time when home. Often end up charging and then taking off charge before bed so I get a 7 or 8 hour cruise mode with no activity to start off each battery stat as you can see by the plateau at the start. Over clocked @ 1344 w/ screen on, flat clocked with screen off and no undervolting so its not too bad. As soon as I move/copy/paste files or anything leaving screen on I see drastic drops in battery life but typical medium use lasts all day no prob and battery left to spare.
Sorry edit...... this is on my G-Nexus with Paranoid Android and trinity kernel.
My a500 on Flexreaper Extreem does about 25-30 hours with fairly heavy use. 40-48 hours when mostly idle. Overclocked @ 1504 screen on, 1000 screen off w/ Minor undervolt. Lovin custom roms !
WOW.....EDIT !!!! : I'm a tard. I could have sworn this was a Galaxy Nexus thread. I apologize, don't know how I ended up here.

Battery life

This is probably one of the worst phones on battery life that I have ever had... No matter what I do, what tweaks I use of what rom I'm on... I always only get 7 to 8 hours of battery with 1 hr screen on time.
I honestly have no idea what to do... I'm so sick of it. Anybody have any suggestions?
Seriously?
I have been on my phone all day with a full charge and I still have about half the juice. I am on stock 4.0.4 ICS. The one that droidstyles has in his guide. The Rom that came with my phone sucked on battery. This Rom works great for some reason.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
What are your settings on? Post your settings (like screen, whether GPS is on, ect), a lot of times it has to do with your settings. I used to have so-so battery life but I tweaked some stuff in my settings and am very pleased with the phone.
Believe me, if you want bad, try the Droid Charge. Worst 4g phone I have ever had in terms of battery life.
This is on clean rom. Ignore the screen percentage, going down since this was a recently flashed rom.

I'm on pure motives rls7
I'll add a screen shot of my battery status tomorrow cause I just plugged in
I get 30 hours with 5 and a half hours screen time.
Idk why your battery life is so bad.
I have power save on, no vibration, and sync set to manual. That's about it. Battery life for me is amazing.

Possible Idea
Don't know if this problem could occur with different ROM's, but I had issues with a runaway process that kept showing up. Maybe try Developer Options -> Show CPU Usage. I noticed that one called gsiff_daemon kept showing up at the top and was making my battery drain extremely fast. Everyone on this forum said it was a common issue and that it wasn't a crucial file, therefore I should just change the name so it wouldn't get accessed.
On RLS7 and kt kernel? This kernel has capabilities for overclocking/underclocking & overvolting/undervolting. By default your min Mhz is set to 384. Go into ktweaker and lower it to 96, test your phone out with a scaled stress test (play store app for stress testing). Then you can also go into the extra settings of ktweaker and set the Mhz for when your screen is off in addition to the governor (many options of which some are powersaving labelled).
If you want to save more battery read the kernel's thread to see starting undervolting values and lower from there while testing your phones limits. More undervolted you are, the less battery your phone uses for that particular frequency.

You obviously never had the thunderbolt, now that battery sucked. You have to let the rom settle in and your battery will improve. Usually for me the first day not so good after that everything is fine.

I had a Thunderbolt. Yep, now that was poor battery life.
My S3 gives me 12 hours if I use it heavily. Typically, at 16 hours, I still have 40% remaining. I leave WiFi, bluetooth, and GPS on 100% of the time.
As bad as your battery is, I would suspect that you have a poor radio signal.and the radios are cranking up the power to work. Try using WiFi or turning off mobile data for a while to get the LTE radio turned off.

This. For example, I have a 4g tower nearby at work, normally (4-5 bars). But sometimes it disappears, and I end up on a 1-2 bar 3g tower for the day. On those days, my battery life is around 8hrs max, barely using it. On good signal, even with crazy heavy usage (4hrs screen on and lots of 4g web browsing) I can get over 8 hours.
Signal strength has a LOT to do with battery life.
