How often do you flash your phone?
For me, its everytime a new version of the rom i use gets released.
Off topic
Thanks to XDA is that I´m still loving WM!
If not I´m sure I moved to another platform
I have flashed so many times I don´t even remember
I usually flash when I get bored, or the ROM starts slowing down. Or whenever I flash my own ROM, I realize it is awful and go straight to xda for a new one
Been hooked for years But now I'm flashing on Android thanks to xda!
I've lost count as well. But the thing is I find myself instinctively returning to certain roms, even if it is a much earlier rom. It's like they have a personality of their own. ( I hope I don't sound too wierd here ... plus I have a life).
You also become an expert on how fast you can get all your software and themes up and running should the new rom rain on your expectations. It's like a pit stop in F1.
I started flashing about a week ago, and I tried 3 custom ROMs from XDA.
Im gonna try cooking a custom ROM myself soon too, because I have very specific requirements for my ROM
However, I'm NEVER going back to my original 6.1 ROM. 6.5.3 is the way to go, even though I can't use my old manilla themes anymore.
Everything improved by an awful lot.
Also, i think this post is a good moment to say thanks to all the chefs that create custom roms for us!
i only started flashing roms the other day, i was doing one a day but have settled on one that seems to be holding my battery a lot longer than the others i used so im gonna stick with this one (xannytech's EVOLUTION 1.1)!
also love this site and the "USE THE SEARCH" mentality, its awesome.
I don't have a *twitch* problem. I merely *twitch* need my *twitch* fix. I can *twitch* stop anytime, *twitch* do you have some*twitch*thing for me *twitch* to flash? *twitch**twitch*
Well to be honest I'm not sure how many roms I've flashed. I know its hundreds!!
I've 2 devices so I have one for everyday use and one for testing/flashing. As a mod I like to know what I'm talking about so I tend to flash nearly every rom which comes out for my device (HD). I'm flashing daily . However as more and more chefs have appeared this has become more combersome so I try and limit this to 3-6 chefs unless something really catches my eye (new build etc). So I'm only flashing when one of these chefs release a new rom.....which still seems to be daily or every other day...lol . Then I choose my preferred rom and flash it onto my everyday use device

lol, very good.....though I would get that *twitch* sorted out very soon......think I heard another rom was released!!!
for me, it depends on how much time i have, and if the new version of the rom has stuff that i am really interested in. otherwise, i'd just skip the update
There is no way to compehend how many times have flashed... Excalibur tryed all ROMs made joint project ROM every minor tweak a flash, Kaiser same deal yet now lives with stylez black v.5 once you have a ROM on there that is to your preference then flashing another isn't a necesitty, now using Touch Pro flashed the ROMs that take my fancy now back in Kitchen... Flashing aboit 2 x a day as need phone set up.
Spelling whack just had a surge and net not working used to inline spellcheck
So yes i still have the bug but not as bad as used too lol

I think constant flashing soon starts to ware you out. People have other committments as well which can eat up time. I've a family so my time is limited, but when I can I still flash, tweak and play. With time the bug does start to decrease, but only a little bit
I am definitely a flash junkie. Not a week goes by and im flashing another ROM. No other platform so far is this hackable\customisable\tweakable.....you get the point.
i flash mine everytime nrgz28 comes out with a new rom. he makes the best in my opinion. i also try others but i always find myself going back to energy roms!!!
Is it me or has development slow down a bit! It seems it started out strong and lately we haven't seen much aside from Faux and CM updating their ASOP roms.
I mean we don't really have any themers either! I know if I could I would make some!
Coming from the Vibrant there was a lot of themes and dev going on!
Now I know it's been less than two months, but the way it started out I thought we would have more going on!
I guess maybe everyone is waiting on the GB update when ever we get it!
...
we waiting 2.3
gonna be here on 06/16/11
I hope GB gets here on 6/16 that would be the best B-day present I could get lol
I have a replacement unit coming the 22nd, I hope it comes with 2.3 already in it!
...
There are lots of themes. CM7 uses T-Mobile themes and they are downloadable in the market.
No reason to mod stock unless you install the cm theme support.
LG G2x CM7 2.3.4
couple things.
waiting for the gingerbread source from lg to insure everything needed will work. and dont want to release a rom at this point where i cant tell if reboots , wifi, 4g(whre it shuts down than takes a while to start again), as well as gps.
when these features are working on the phone as should than ill start the rom, but no care to spend days trying to figure out why something doesnt work when its the darn baseband that i cant mess with.
themes. the theming engine has taken over unfortunately. it does theme and is a lot easier for the themers(after they learn it) since 1 theme works on all roms. but its just not like the old days where every app was themed and such. some have taken time to write scripts and such so they can make a better more inclusive theme with it , but most of the themes for it are color changes and icons not full themes with every app themed as we were use to . I know several of the themes that are on my rom for the droid would never be able to be as complete through the theming engine. but it does ok just different. and does enable many more themes available to all roms. and its not like a this or that themes can still be made the old way. but with the old way you need to update the theme with every new build(framework) of the rom so since these roms are in constant change at this point i dont think many are spending time theming it. especially froyo.
Honestly I can't speak for everyone but I have to many projects going on and I don't want to release buggy roms to you guys. I have not stopped working but I would love to see 2.3 drop as it would be (hopefully) more stable in general as they had time to get the bugs out.
Look at it like this the more time we have to spend working on battery drivers the less time we have making good roms. LG did not tell even close to the truth as this was supposed to be a true google experience (MY ASS IT IS) so we already had to spend countless hours removing BS they left it from the O2X.
Anyways look for more stuff soon I am sure as currenlty I am working on my rom again and I know of other hidden stuff getting done. (sorry can't say what all it is yet)
Later.

i was gonna do a quick port of my rom for my own use but when i looked at the source code for g2x froyo-- it appears al they did was remove the instruction sets for the overlay of the o2x all that crud is in the framework and elsewhere and just seemed like to much hassle, so waiting for the gb and hopfully a more stable driverset and baseband.
or keep the life i actaully have now that was non existant for the 9 months i developed for the droid 1
maybe ill just leave it up to you

Personally I say the more the merrier as I really do care about the end users. I hope to see more people jump in even if it is only a rom modded by adding removing a few things as everyone has to start somewhere.
Anyone can use my rom as a base all I ask is some credit or atleast send me a pm.
And I will always try to answer any questions as long as I got the time
too true

more options are good.
my rom was called sourcery so it kinda had to be from source
i am not with the co0developer of that anymore so id have to comeup with another cool name. but still rather do from source than others base , but might use lg gb as a base if they release it.(hopefully without all the o2x crud) or let us make use of it 1 or the other.
but yeah all the initial launch build was is a o2x froyo themed rom.
have you played around with the animated pull down stuff. looks kinda cool and on the g2x it shouldnt hurt performance much. kinda something new.
I would love to see another rom made from source. I have been working on a 2.2 from source but not even close to being release ready as buggier then crap
Anyways I am sure the crack flashers would love another rom to try out
2.2.2

2.2.2 i think is not as stable as 2.2.1 i lost 200 on quandrant with it not sure why but from 2.2.1 same rom same mods.
Over all its ok. i released the 2.2.2 rom 3 days after the source was released. did a serious rebuild from scratch since i was about ready to release the 2.2.1
i remember i had a couple bugs i had to figure out that werent on 2.2.1 but i forget what they were .
you have any questions or need a little help drop me a pm.
ill help where i can.
this is a link to my rom since i think only people on verizon have ever heard of it

@tweezit I for one appreciate all the work you guys put into supporting this phone. I know it takes a lot of time and hard work. If seems some of us are impatient it's only because we are. Seriously, you are making a great device better and I thank you for it.
@Eagle1967 Just checked your Rom out and I would love to see a port...really slick stuff there...great app inclusions and love the blue/black theme.
I'm wading into this myself...been playing around with it but any kind of release is at least a couple month away...if ever. Really makes me appreciate what you guys do.
thanks

when i started i knew nothing. i started in august last year was late september before i actaully got my first build that completed and installed and ran and first release was on christmas so took a long time but i started with no knowlege of any of it. still not always sure what i do to make it work it just does
yeah it took 9 months of my life part of the reason i stopped(part ).. but it was fun and made me feel like i accomplished something. i cant believe how popular the rom still is since i havent really done anything with it since febuary but it was the first custom rom with froyo 2.2.2 and actually was for quite a while until some gave up on gingerbread and went back i think there is still only 1 other 2.2.2 rom for the droid though.
if you have any questions feel free to pm me. ill help you out if i can.
Hey guys,
I frequent the EVO forums since my current phone is the EVO 3D. My best friend has a Blaze 4G, which I rooted for him about a month ago. I know nothing of current Samsung ROMs and while I could search and read every thread in the Blaze section, I was hoping you guys could save me some time.
General requirements for any ROM to be considered:
1) Must have working camera/camcorder (He has a 7 year old daughter he just got custody of and Dads gonna want to take pictures.)
2) Must be "Stable". My friend is a great guy but not a computer/phone savvy as I am...I don't want his phone to **** the bed while I'm at work, I'd feel like an uber douche.
Please in your responses include any pro's/ con's and why YOU like it...Thanks a ton

I understand completely what you are saying about a rom for your friends Blaze. I would recommend Dark KNight Build 8 and Tweaked ROM. Both are stable and run well. I have been using Dark Knight since the day it hit. No force closes, no random reboots, everything is working fine. Tweaked is also very stable and everything works. Also I would recommend flashing the scorched kernel as well.
Hope this helps
I agree, tweaked and dknight are probably your best options, although I think there is JMT, but I have never tried that.
Let me ask you though. Is there a reason your friend does not want the stock rom? If he's not to tech savvy as you say, if it were my friend I would let him stick with stock, all the roms have there small issues. And although some may not bother me, it may be something your friend would rather not deal with. Having said that, after setting up dknight with the torched kernel and running for quite some time now, I have not had any problems.

He wants something different. From what I've read about the Blaze 4G and its users y'all have the same issue EVO 3D users had with regards to ICS update (We were told Q1 2012...didn't get an official OTA until 7/31). We will hang out, drink some cold beers and he will play with my phone and say "Damn, Chris...I wish my phone would do that" or "Hey Chris...you think you can make my phone do *insert cm9/10 feature here*" So a few weeks ago I went ahead and rooted his phone, he loves that HE is in control of his device...even if he has no idea what it can do. I set up Titanium for him and did a NANDROID backup so that if something went wrong he has a known good flash point. He knows that when in doubt, don't mess with it or call me and we will go through it together. So in fairness to him, he is savvy enough to know not to really mess with it until he more knowledgeable...
Besides all that the man couldn't type until I got him addicted to a MySpace app, I am hoping that once he sees what his device can do with some mods he will take interest the same way and learns to do this for himself...just gotta get him that first hit ya know
So this day came earlier than I thought.
I even said not lately though, that I will hold on to this phone for as long as it would last.
but...I kinda have mixed feelings selling today my last SGS 4G (had 2 of them).
At first, I had SGS international version (i9000) and came to the US as a tourist in Summer of 2011.
While in the US, I wanted to buy 2 more of them - 1 to my mom and 1 to my wife.
Somehow, the Manhattan cellphone shop seller tricked me into buying this phone saying "they are the same",
only to find out the same day that they are not.
So, when I came back to my home land (Israel) I took both of them to me and my wife and gave my mom the i9000.
After bricking my own, flashing a vibrant ROM, doh... I started to learn more, flashed Raver's ROMs than Valhalla and finally started to inject Hebrew and other languages into ROMs. flashing 95% of the ROMs in this forum until I left my wife with FBis251's AOKP and I kept trying every possible ROM that came.
At some point I tried to port ROMs, but that didn't quite work, and I haven't ever tried to build them from source.
I can say that due to the miserable internal storage it has, I lost many sleepless nights swapping apps with Titanium Backup (never got the hang of sd-ext and it never worked for me) and I must have cursed Sammy and everyone related to it, but, in the bottom line, I used this phone to the limit, understood how Android really works, made 2 corporate presentations on Android OS and finally decided to study mobile applications development (I already finished the Android part, now starting the iOS) and I believe I will be starting my own mobile app development business in a few months, so I can't really say this phone hasn't driven me into changing my career and destiny.
So after selling my wife's SGS4G to a classmate for mobile app development purposes (upgrading her to i9300 international SGS3), and after upgrading my mom to the same model - I decided to return to my old SGS i9000, selling today my very own (most abused) SGS 4G and finish this part of technological life.
I plan on holding the i9000 until March/April 2015 when the SGS5 will come out -at that point I will buy SGS4 (it will be cheaper then).
I'm never on plans or commitments, I barely speak ...
So I want to take this opportunity to personally thank the amazing guys who walked with me this long journey,,,
RaverXXX - my first ever flashed ROM (I think it was Froyo Audiophiles....)
Krylon360 and DRHonk - For Valhallla ROM (my very first self customized ROM)
Alon2 - Who together with me gave the world the first ever Hebrew SGS4G ROM.
FBis251 - For KJ6 debloater, Aroma installer customizations, TWRP, AOKP and more...
DSexton702 - For giving us crazy mods and customizations and having limitless patience and support (well, until he moved on...))
Bryan (AKA Bhundven) and AntonX - For keeping development alive, mostly great kernels when we most needed them.
Jeffsf - For the auto-brightness fix.
Erikmm (Beastmode) - For giving us MIUI (my longest lasting ROM ) almost a year back and forth) and many more ROMs and endless support
DaothanDuy - For keeping the legacy of Erkmmm (see above) with endless ROMs that keep appearing.
Lumin30 and eollie for their endless support, guides and explanations.
Shortbusdriver for testing my first HebAOKP build...
For sure I forgot many others I'm very thankful to, so please bear with me.
My best wishes to you all and hopefully we will meet in the future doing great things together, remember this and have a good joyful laugh.
Take care.
Itzik2sh.

It's always a disappointment to see such a strong contributor to the community leave. You've done a lot here and I'm glad that it has taken you in new directions in your life.
You will definitely be missed!
It's sad to see a lot of people leaving this community. I'm also glad I got this phone because like you, I learned a lot about Android from it.
I'm sure you'll enjoy your S4! It's a solid phone and the ROM/kernel support is great!
Thank you for all you provided to us, and all the support you gave this community.
Well, the good news is that your not leaving android!
I mean, you could contribute your translations upstream to aosp, cm, omni, slim, etc... and have a greater affect then sgs4g's world.
Rats, means I'll have to subscribe to the s4 forum to troll you now
I'm keeping my SGS4G xda subscription. I think I will make a mobile app to demonstrate this phone's abilities (resolution, sensors etc.) You can send me suggestions and it will be my farewell gift.

Been playing with SGS i9000 ROMs a bit and i can confirm that 4.3,4.3.1 issues (browser crash on scrolling, disappearing keyboard and rare launcher crashes) exist there too. So unless kitkat solves them (and it is possible) this phone's best and last version is 4.2.2. Just need to make GPS work as it works on the i9000, where cm10.1.3 is considered stable.

Read the stickies and how-to threads like the first 3 threads in the General section first bro so you`ll know what to do when your N5 arrrives. Most custom roms are quite stable and the best way is to try some and keep the one you like most
personally, I like to stick with official builds of CyanogenMod. I recommend sticking with EITHER the official Clockworkmod build for a recovery, OR use PhilZ Touch recovery, as it adds quite a few features, as well as an easy to use theme system so you can customize a bit.
You're good sticking with the default CyanogenMod kernel, but I personally like Chaos kernel, as it also adds more features, as well as more customization in terms of performance and such. Just be careful with it if you use it.
But it all depends on what you like, the way you use your phone, or what you use it for. How often you use it, what apps you like, etc.
You might even want to just stick with the stock rom for a while. It's pretty good by default, and if you're used to another phone OS, it will certainly help you get used to Android in general again. Particularly KitKat.
Definitely as mentioned before, read the stickies for tutorials, available roms, etc.
I would say a stock rom, rooted with Xposed framework and couple of modules gives you everything you need for a stock user.
