Don't read this! - HTC Inspire 4G

This is an updated thread for CM7 for the Inspire 4G.
The original thread by jznomoney was just getting out of date. But, there is a lot of information in its pages

Installation:

If you've flashed a rom before, read on.
If this isn't an upgrade from cm7 than you must wipe data/cache first
Go here to get the nightly:

Gapps: (They package them separately to due to licensing restrictions)
http://goo.gl/r1VoW
Changelog:
http://cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=ace
http://twitter.com/cmsrc
Known Bugs:
After first boot must restart to make wifi work.(i think you have to turn WIFI on first or it dosnt work, idk though) otherwise you'll be stuck in a crash loop. (to get out of the loop just quickly do a restart before it crashes again.)
BATTERY DRAIN!!!
if you actually like to have good battery life then you might want to invest yourself in one of these threads:
http://goo.gl/GrUlx (hrkfdn)
http://goo.gl/NyOQH (Mad-Murdock)
and im pretty sure Mad is now using hrkfdn's fix. so i dont think it matters which one you use. hrkfdn just uses a different kernal with overclocking. (i think, correct me if im wrong)
Radios:
After reading about im not sure if there is a right or wrong radio. but here are ones that seems to work:
12.39.60.19_26.06.04.06_M (my current radio)
12.41.60.19_26.06.04.14_M
Thanks goes to everyone who has been working on getting cm7 working right on the Inspire:
kali- Desire HD Maintainer
hrkfdn(awesome kernal/battery drain fix(WIP))
Mad-Murdock(Battery Drain fix(WIP))

Isaac,
thanks for stepping in to clean it up, maybe you can insert the tidbit about the recommended radio, it seems like that is one of the more frequently asked questions because a lot of people don't understand why certain things don't work when its all related to the radio.. etc etc. just a suggestion.

LOL, thats true.. I guess I was just reading the Desire HD thread for CM7 and they recommended a certain older radio. but you're right we've all see multiple reports of them working. maybe put a list? like I am using the one in my signature, that seems to be fine, and I'm sure you're using a different one too..

Thanks for getting this more organized. One question I haven't been able to find a satisfactory answer to is the following:
Do the nightlies have the battery drain fix already? If so, which builds? If not, please update the first post when they do.
Thanks!

I've tried a few different radios (stock, Telus, and I think Orange?) and all three have been great. Granted, I am in a well-covered area where reception is rarely an issue. The radios seem to effect my reception far less than they did with my Samsung Captivate.

Call me old fashioned, but I've always found the benefit of a bigger thread contains a lot more answers and possible solutions.
"Search This Thread" is insanely powerful.
Maybe a thread on "How to find an answer to your issue before you become the 83rd person to ask THAT question" would be beneficial.

they have that. problem is, people need a post explaining how to use that. then they need a post to explain when to use it. then they need a post to remind them to read the for-mentioned posts.

Although I personally believe a new thread was needed, symonc has a point. Isaac, perhaps you should provide a link to the old thread and just state it is for reference purposes at this point? You can remove it within a few weeks, as the information will be long obselete; but for right now it may help .

RC2 had an issue where every time you rebooted, your SD card would be nuked. Has that been fixed?

Cyanogenmod is a product of cyanogen and teamdouche, who are active on XDA developers forums. It's up to teamdouche, and specifically the device maintainers to decide when it's time to clean up their own threads, and not some random person from the forums. Because the OP has no special access or insight, threads like these are where a great deal of disinformation comes from.

And my disinformation is what? Ill gladly change anything. I'm just trying to help the community that wants to run and test cm7.
I said in the last post of the last one. If they want to update the other one then by all means do that and delete this one. But until then I'm going to maintain this thread to help and inform.
I'm not out to get anyone or anything. Its just that this is a relatively new device on the market and has new users all the time.
Just informing my fellow testers.

Not flaming but you guys should've given the op of the other thread a heads up. He does work closely with CM and has insight as attn1 said. He's one of the reasons it was ported over from the desire hd section.

I did. I pmed him yesterday while he was online. Also he did have 2 weeks to update. He shouldn't need our request to do it.
Now can we get back to actually taking about cm7
I'm on 22 and I didn't see the wifi crash loop. Can anyone confirm?

First, it is not a misleading title. The thread was for people with no experience sifting through all the jargon to be able to have a place to look for updates for their Evo; a "Glint of Hope" so to speak. Wasn't XDA originally designed to help people like that? Now it seems as though it's just a bunch of pricks like you who like to tear down anyone who tries to provide help or asks an inexperienced question. Second, there is no "us". It is you, skatrwannabe3, to whom I am referring to as a ****. If you don't like my thread, then get off of it. End of story. I reported the thread anyway so it will hopefully be deleted soon and free up space on your precious forum. This is my last post on this thread. It was a waste of my time and I now know how XDA works thanks to it. Don't ask questions. Don't post information. Because people like skatrwannabe3 and github will ruin it for you and everyone else...

People need to cool it, I know you're frustrated that you don't have root, but please stop taking it out on each other. This forum is worse than working for AT&T customer service!
The main problem is that your post is old news. It also doesn't belong in development because you aren't developing anything. Furthermore the subject of your post has been discussed numerous times since the tool was released. Therefore I see no point in your post, so now we are talking about ponies.

I could not care less about the comments. It's that you altered my thread which wasn't meant for senior members to even use as a reference. I have indeed seen it posted for other devices but not under Evo. I figured it would be news to some. I am sorry for making a noob post. I am trying to get the thread deleted so it won't waste space anymore. Now get the hell over it and let's move on. Proceed with your ponies lol.
Now that's a better reply.
We (most) are just having fun with you for posting it here. The ponies was nothing compared to what you could have seen from others. Don't take the lulz personally, it happens to the best of us. Just remember, a bit of common sense on XDA saves one from ponies (and/or worse).
Now that the dust has settled, you can PM a forum mod if you still want the thread deleted. Pick one: toastcfh, rolfd, or josefcrist. If you want actual discussion, you might repost this over in General or Q&A and hope for the best.
P.S. "jordanetodd" your AT&T comment was funny.
P.P.S. edited some of my comments, even though the originals are still quoted by others

If your DS is updated to the latest HBOOT, you will need to downgrade, for the HTCDEV to work (S-off).
Hope this helps

Dude, you have no idea what HTCDev is, right?
What you have put up, is a screenshot of the Revolutionary tool... can only be used for the older hboots, not the newer one. HTCDev is a website by HTC which allows unlocking of the newer bootloader as well.
So you've gone through a lot of exercise for nothing...
Also the moderators unfortunately don't read our threads but rely on us to report using the report button

My suggestion is read this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22471866&postcount=154
I too was going to S-off it on HTC Dev - good thing i ask first. Check the link why it is much better to S-off by Revolutionary and not with HTC Dev
If you do want to use HTC Dev, in the device selection, select the last option - All other supported devices.

Your "effort" to help is appreciable my friend. But by doing so, you're just encouraging this kind of undesirable behavior on the Forum.
What's the point of rules and regulations on a forum, if some members decide to flaunt them brazenly? And it gets worse if others join in and answer the thread anyway. What's the point of relocating the thread later? This will just set precedent for others to repeat the same thing over and over again, and desecrate the DEV forum, because they get what they want anyway... while well-meaning members who complain about "wrong thread" are dissed away by people like you for being less willing to help.
Come to think of it, the "wrong thread" posts, in reply to inappropriate threads, are actually more helpful in the long run, than the equally misguided "helpful" answers by like-minded myopic members.
Djonni DK said:
First of all I really thought that the forum was regularly monitored. Secondly, there's never a rule without an exception. New members might read what they need to and still post wrong places. We've got to be flexible and help. No need to be a snob..... we've all been noobs at some point.
Come to think of it.... posting wrong thread several times keeps the post in the top of the forum. So the best thing would be to write a pm or report to moderator.... and not answer at all.
I'm not dissing anybody... just trying to help and trying to avoid a forum where new people are afraid to ask because of the reactions. Several forums are so strict and lose with warnings that the conversations and new ideas are none existing.

To illustrate the point about no moderation, I flagged the post to be moved when I made #4 (yesterday night). Which I've done again today at #8 when I mentioned the Report button in an attempt to educate others - however the thread still exists..
Effectively the DS forum is self moderated with external moderation provided when and if needed (via use of the report button) with some delay.
While we were all Noobs at the start, even though it may be nice to provide answers to all questions - when they posted in the wrong place - it doesn't set the right example.
I created the thread [DEV][14 OCT 11] DEV naming convention (plus more) READ BEFORE CREATING THREAD! which is a sticky within this section, which explains all about new threads and the DEV section just for this reason.
Now lets all take ten.....breath, I'm having a cup of Tea.

So this is an attempt to clear up some thread repeats:
And mods if you do not like this by all means close this or if it does not fit the propose. We have all seen the same thread over and over again which is never going to stop lol.. and seeing the same ?s or Everyone's problem that they which is always "different" then anyone elses etc.. SOOOOOOO... heres the best way for those type of solutions.. For the newbies or w.e it is these days. Because it seems to be something that's over looked in the hack kit.
Right form attn1 thread it self : If you have read this post and the effen-manual and get stuck during processing,
help is available in IRC at http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=#aahkSupport
Best place to go for all those issues... if you have tried to go through the IRC which shouldn't have no issues with the maybe ask lol
So just a thought if anyone had issues of flashing or anything they could think of that they want to share or post the thinks where they found the info or give the solutions to there fixed issues that would be awesome. I would like to see this maybe pick up as a guide/solution/fix thread. If not eh not no worries..I dont mind to help the new people
But if you ever get a boot loop form a rom you flash make sure you fully wipe (sorry just funny every time.you will see what I mean) from rom to rom unless other wise...If you still happen to have the PD98IMG file still on your sd card happens when you 1st root and for get that its there delete I use Es File Explorer to find whats on the sd card there are others astro file manager. Also This happen to me once when I flash scripts, gps fix, kernels then the rom that I was going to use and it just totally F'd my phone or re boots random or just gets stuck on the htc screen..
But I had made this post for another user (new) maybe this may help:
So this is an idea of what I do when I flash a rom and some other ideas/tips.
Getting Started or Flashing A Rom:
Once you root your phone (this is not in any order really) you should get ROM Manager aka Clock Work Mod. Once you get that, open the CWM and the first top half you will see flash clockworkmod recovery make sure your on wifi I would at least for the updates. You will see a dialog box click desire hd. This will allow you to make back ups of your settings that you made when you flash a rom its always a good idea to make your backups its a life save!! So, once you made your back up and this is what I do.. I plug in my phone to the pc switch to disk mode which will let you see whats on your sd card. Since you flash the CWM and recovery you will see on your sd card a folder called clockworkmod open then backups folder you will see you back that you made, drag and drop that backup file that you made to your fold that you made on pc to save it for later. And thats pretty much how I save my backups of roms etc.. Now if you need to load that back up just plug phone in disk mode cwm fold>backup drag and drop back up that you need. And boot into recovery mode and select back up and restore and select restore and the file boot and your good..
I would download which Rom I would like to use. Save it to pc to a folder that I have made that I store all my roms, backups, radios & rils, kernels..etc.. just to keep myself organized. Once you get your rom just drag and drop it to the ROOT of the sd card do NOT add it in any folder thats on the sd card. Once you have it on the card just boot into recovery flash your rom.. Other then that its easy to flash the rom.. And when you get all your settings set up make a back up and when done save it to the pc and delete it from the sd card if you dont want to keep on the card I do that..
When it comes to battery life it depends on what the rom.. But I like to use killers http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ht=killersolth scripts for the kernels.. For me I always flash a different kernel upon flashing a new rom. For me having the kernel and killers script is the best combo for me to have for performance and battery life.. now since I have inspire I use the uv lites scripts.
For the most part flashing radios & Rils you would never really need to do that so I wouldnt recommend it for now maybe later but read about it its good to know what it does..
Other sides which I for got to add.. When you flash a new rom its always good to wipe user data.,cache, delvik it makes it for a good clean install with other roms..
Also the desire HD thread which the inspire can use the roms from that thread to.
Well I hope this helps you in any way.. if you need help PM me best of luck
SORRY FOR SUCH A LONG POST HAHA

If this gets close its cool

admirable, but we have every bit of information needed to root, update modems, tweak roms, find roms in the first few stickies of the respective devices forums. So if people are unwilling to look at a sticky listed as [How-to] or [Guide]....lol i feel ya tho between irc and palringo rooms, plenty of help available without simple questions loading down the xda servers.

Morse code is just going to confuse the noobs even more.
I have another idea. How about a noob sub-forum, that you can only post there until you have like 25 posts. Then there will be more noobs helping noobs and maybe they'll figure it out. Those that want to help can, and those that aren't in the mood can avoid it.

Nice attempt...but things like this will never work. You should know this by now lol. We have stickys and a search button yet people still post the same threads. Nothing we can do will help that.
"I love my Springfield XD40"
exactly, we have a thread "all radios and rils and what they work with" we also have "rooting kit guide and faq" and they pass over both of those and make threads like "how do i root my inspire?". My faves tho are the ones that buy an inspire cuz its cheaper and they live in the uk and wonder why they only get edge connection lol.
the problem is 'noobies' dont feel they are in that category so they skip over threads like this. It is an offensive term to most, itd be like if we made a <racial slur general chat> forum expecting people to actually go there LOL.
Your right dude.. lol o well

Noobs Anonymous?
Hi I'm Bob and I'm a noob.
Sent using the power of the dark side
Guys, how do you feel about trying an experiment?
First off, I am familiar with all of you and currently you all know much more than myself. With that said, here goes.
I came across a thread a while back with the title more a less, "noob friendly, ask any question" which had quite a few posts. Perhaps something like that would help minimize the creation of new threads. Maybe.
Second, one of you mentioned that just by using the word noob some feel offended by it, I know I did after a while of being in xda even though I was and I still am
Perhaps if it's still possible to change the title of this thread to... I don't know... "Beginners tutorial, basic troubleshooting and....." you get the idea it may encourage people to look at it. Edit the op to have something besides saying to head over to the irc channel.
When I first started here, I was overwhelmed by all the new terms. And it did, and still is a bit confusing even if there is a step by step on how to do something.
Granted, all the info is already there. I'm just curious about this idea.
On a side note, I wanted to start a "tips and secrets" kinda thread where each person could post recommendations for almost anything they have learned.
What say you?
Sent from a dream.
Noob noob noob...lmao no the name should stay or thread deleted. Hell the word noob is on the entrance video for xda. A new thread of ask questions will not work. Just stop thinking someone can change something that can never be changed. We have been here long enough to know this by now.
Keep enjoying the site and have fun.
Edit...we don't need to make things any easier for anyone than it already is. Use the search button...period. not to difficult.
"I love my Springfield XD40"
Cw and darunion what they say is true it one of those things that the veterans would like to see the same type of post posted again and again I myself see the same and I don't mind realy helping out but at the same time its to clutter with all the same stuff..
And as for the member for a helping thread I know what you mean kind of one stop place which would be cool to see.
But with all the "my issue is different" when I flash from the hack kit is to go to the IRC channel that's why its posted.

I know when someone does something to the phone and cant get it fix they panic and make a post thinking it would be faster in some cases it is..

I know the feeling buddy and those I understand. I'm all about helping.
It just gets a bit frustrating, i.e. the rom/thread is four pages and a question is posted - and the answer is there. Or when there was a rush to ask if the cam was working. I felt bad for the devs.
Xda has become it's own organizational structure with it's own procedures and everything that entails an organization. I was just trying to think/help finding a better way of doing things.... I don't know... in the end, I'm one of those who believe there is a solution for everything. You just need to find the right way to do it (that is, if it's possible to make something good even better, even for a place like xda)
On a side note: my last post was meant to be funny it sounded better in my head and perhaps I should have kept it there

Why are ROM suggestion threads disappearing? Continued!

i wanted to add something but as usual tread like"Why are ROM suggestion threads disappearing?" are being locked as soon as someone starts a conversation, so mods i hope you read this and actually think about it
To All Mods: before you lock this tread, please read it at least twice. I think you forgot what forum is all about. Its about users communicating with each other. Of course i agree with rules but your guys are going overboard with this. Discussion about which rom is perfoming the best for users is very very normal type of tread. Your argument is that there is flamming etc. well ok, but shouldn't moderators "moderate"?? when threads became our of control or people become nasty they you are suppose to lock it. Not lock it as soon it shows up, because you "assume" it will.
I would love to talk to others about how are roms doing on their devices. Yes everyones' usage is different but THE BASICS will always be the same. If a rom is doing exeptionally well for most of the users than we can pretty much agree that is a good rom. This is what we "call good information".
so lets hope you guys understand what im trying to tell you and relax a little
Now your spamming remember mods decisions are final

Anything ICS is very stable. Its simply preference whether you go touchwiz or aosp. Jelly bean is getting there and almost all share similar problems as they are built from source using many of the same commits. You have many cm10 builds to choose from coming out of project rookie and Vincom has a build out. AOKP for JB includes R4ins builds and a spin off Majick made called Orthus One using R4ins build as a base. I know I listed options and didn't tell you what to pick. Its your phone and your decision. The reason people don't like threads like this is because intentional or not you are putting someone's work above another's. If you must get info on peoples preference then send PM's. There is no need for a public forum debate on what's best. What I like, you may not and vice versa. There aren't bad Roms these days. It really is preference only. This thread will be locked just as your last one was. If you are so worried about stability then stay on ICS. If you must go for JB then simply read the various threads, OP's and go from there. It doesn't take that long to flash a ROM haha.

I just want to jump in here and say I agree, some of the moderating here is overzealous. Discussions of battery life / ROM's that he/she enjoys are pertinent. Dealing in absolutes are annoying sometimes, and there's nothing wrong with getting a community's subjective perspective. Moderators should moderate, not control.
The only problem is the userbase here can't be trusted to not erupt into flame fests.
Which should bring the moderators in to MODERATE, not block a thread because it might happen.

I would agree if it was ONE but the issue I see in every other section is that 20+ exist of all those what's the most stable what's the best who gets best battery life who makes my dinner better its stupid if noons could keep it to one thread per subject wars would never happen if they could follow rules and read and search but you know it won't happen so it will open Pandoras box most of us saw it when we had an absence of moderators and it made many of us mad and bitter ask the old timers here it was mad how many ICS threads got made in a day I thank PR for destroying all those threads and putting a stop to most of the problems

The fact that you're getting so angry about a forum is honestly really funny
I think just how mods monitor the OT thread for bad language and such we should have a thread for suggestions that gets monitored. Granted, it'll be more work but I'm sure it'll be better than having reports from you flooding them every 50 seconds.

Tons of discussion in the Development section, in each of the ROMs' threads, about how the ROMs are doing on users phones. Give it a look. A thread in the General forum comparing ROMs will, as others have pointed out, end up turning into an argument and be counterproductive. At best it's redundant.
It appears an argument has erupted already.

The development section / ROM threads are scattered, and not a consolidated place to discuss issues/favorites/subjective ideas. I think we need a thread that allows us to discuss our preferences because hopping from thread to thread in the development section is annoying, you can lose some information in the shuffle, and getting others opinions' are helpful.
Battery life, Favorite ROMs, features you like / dislike, settings for DPI, etc all should fall into a "General ROM Specifics Discussion" thread that is MODERATED by PR as it goes on. Not stopped before it has a chance to grow into something good.
I'll agree w/ Illnevertell, this thread is a meta this is why we can't have nice things

One thing that I generally see in every thread when someone asks if a ROM is "good" or would suit their needs, the universal answer is "try it for yourself". Every phone is different; what works for some won't work for others. I'm not sure how conducive it is to the development environment to have a thread where everyone is free to get together and give feedback on ROMs in a place where the developers may not see it.

It's not conducive to the developer environment, it's for the users. Questions like "Is ParanoidAndroid a good ROM?" are stupid, I'm against those.
What I'm not against would be questions/comments like:
What's battery life like on CM10 for you guys?
What settings are your ParanoidAndroid tablet/phablet/phone valued at?
I'm getting 2.5 hours of screen time w/ texting/reddit/tapatalk on X ROM, how're you all doing with it?
I just tried Rezoundbeats on PA, and it works ****ing awesome.
I just got 4.5 hours of screen on time [screenshot]!
I'm confused about AOKP/CM/PA/ETC, what are the benefits of X vs. X.
I've tried X,X,and Y, I've heard good things about X, anyone else on it?
Is anyone using TouchWiz based ROMs? If so why?
Is anyone still using ICS? If so why?
Is anyone using AOSP ROMs? If so why?
There are a number of discussions that could arise from any of the above, and as long as the thread remains flame free they should be allowed to exist because while answers may not be THAT much of a help to you personally, others' insight may prove useful or at the very least interesting.
I'd only be in favor of this thread if it was hosted by PR bassplayer, just like the JB discussion thread.

Threads that could/should be created in the QA forum as their own topics.
Throwing all these questions/discussions in a single thread would lead to utter chaos and there would be little constructive conversation. Individually threads already often descend into chaos; one thread with no specific topic for discussion would do little better in my opinion. Ultimately, this is all for naught because the thread was already locked and rejected.

[DISCUSSION/ OT POSTS THREAD]JT Inverted Productions JB 4.2 GAPPS

This is the discussion /OT thread for JT Inverted Productions JB 4.2 GAPPS. This was created because too much discussion/off-topic posts have been happening in the main thread and the posts over there should be kept as relevant to the app as much as possible.
Main thread for the app and downloads
[APPS]JusTunBean By: JT Inverted Productions JB4.2 aroma 4.1
Support thread
[SUPPORT THREAD] JT Inverted Productions JB 4.2 Gapps+
If you want to ask questions related to a problem with the app, use the support thread above.
This thread is purely for discussion because I noticed a lot of you were having discussions in the main thread and posting off-topic comments. If you want to discuss anything to do with the app then use this thread.
If people carry on discussing things and making off-topic posts in the main thread, I'll start reporting you for purposely trying to derail a thread when you're fully aware you shouldn't be posting there.
Reserved for future awesomeness...
Kinda silly the whole password thing. I think it'll do you more harm than good... But you know, whatever works for you. Just my own 2 cents. Took me all of 15 seconds to find the password without reading the entire OP. (Which I don't usually do unless I have support questions anyway).

I hope that touching on this subject doesn't bring sanctions my way, considering I'm a noob to these forums, but I'll ask anyway. With the original thread being locked due to general dickishness--which frankly I don't get, even as a new member I don't have major issues flashing, and it took me minutes to find the first password. I guess people are just lazy--is the entire project on hiatus or will we just see a new thread soon? I love the work you do and appreciate all your effort, so I'd hate to see it ruined just because a few people are acting silly.

AAs a noob myself, i understand the whole pw deal. But what i dont understand is why it is considered someone elses responsibility if someone doesnt follow the instructions and bricks the phone.
We have all made it to this point by rooting and installing custom roms. I have never seen it taken to this level in any of the development threads. All this for flashing gapps, seems a little over the top imo.
All i have to add is thank you for all the work, and if someone bricks their phone by not following directions, so be it. You did your job

I opened contacts on my d2vzw running the 4.1.1 JT gapps... It forced closed. SO, I went on to my computer, opened the 3.2.6a download I last used and pulled the contacts.apk from it. I put it on my ext-sd, uninstalled contacts.apk from system/apps, and installed the contacts from the last working release I used. Then, I fixed permissions in CWM, rebooted, and boom. Success.
I did all of this without googling, searching these threads, or messaging anyone... and guess what... IT FELT GOOD.
More people should take my lead, figure stuff out for themselves before asking the same questions over and over, and in the end: FEEL GOOD.
We'll end android related depression and solve our problems at the same time. JOIN THE MOVEMENT. haha
