Alright. So what is the reason that we cant stream on droid x
As far as I know, there aren't any devices that can stream yet.
Netflix claims it's lack of adequate native DRM support in the Android OS.
Not even 3.0 can support it? Come on Android!

At least we now have a decent app to take care of our queue I am sure streaming is not far away.

I was referring to Android devices, the Netflix app works like a dream on my ipad.
One if the problems is the app is apparently looking for DRM built jnto the cpu, not the operatjng system. If that's the case you'll never get it running on any of the older phones.
Robert
From what I have read over at droidxforums netflix will only stream on snapdragon processors. They have the right security built into them.

This may be inappropriate, but why would anyone pay for movies (and/or Netflix service) in the first place? It's not like there isn't anyway to get them free

Netflix is 1000x more convenient and not illegal like pirating movies and TV shows.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA Premium App
Thanks for the info. That makes sense about the processor.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA Premium App
The whole "needing hardware DRM" thing is horse crap, Netflix is just being too lazy to do it through software in the Netflix app for Android. You see them requiring Intel or AMD to put in a hardware DRM function in their processors for streaming on desktops and laptops?.....
I was so happy to hear that the Netflix was coming to android .... but not anymore this is sad.
that's what they're saying that its an issue w/security like were going 2 sit there & record off our phones quality would suck even if u could

If you have Playon installed on your PC, you can use the Playon Android app for Netflix, Hulu, etc

I think it was either the galaxy or droid x thats getting a blockbuster app. I believe i even heard something about streaming. Does anyone know if its exclusive to that particular phone or if they are eventually going to release it for all android phones?
i would love a way to stream netflix too.
Netflix is working on an android app. That is all I can say about it.
We will get Netflix... if not I will cancel my membership.
From the HTC Evo!!

notice the bottom it says the epic will have a movie service and the evo will not...
I emailed Blockbuster to ask when they will release an android application since we know it exists on the droid x and they refused to give me an answer as to if or when.

Everyone needs to harass these companies till we get the applications, especially Blockbuster because it already exists (I don't know anything about netflix). I imagine the Droid X has an exclusivity contract but it can't last for too terribly long.
Blockbuster is on the market,,, just search for it.

Is there currently a hack or any work around to stream netflix to this [email protected]$$ phone? I saw an article on engadget a few days ago discussing something like this. Or will there be an app soon?
From MWC 2011 it was stated that an Official Netflix App will come soon with Qualcomm's new gen Snapdragon processors. I heard sometime around spring. Again this is for an "official" app, I'm not sure about any hacks

I'm reading the Description now and it says:
"Plex for android allows you to browse and play your video, photos, and music right on your Android device, streamed from Plex Media Server on your Mac or on your PC. With Plex Media Server for MAC you can stream additional content from Aperture, iPhoto, and iTunes"
So it sounds like both are supported, but using a MAC it will automatically locate media from sources outside of the Plex Media Server
Be advised that using Plex over 3G (or "4G"...ugh) requires some port configuring and static IPs on your home computer, so it's not a great alternative to a native app.
I got the app and its ok... but netflix is nowhere on here nor can I find a netflix plugin for windows!

PlayON was just released to android today with a PC server I believe. Search Engadget for it... that supports netflix.

PlayOn works like a charm either on WiFi or 3g. It's a great alternative but a costly one. Netflix app should be free if it ever comes out for Android.

edit : wrong post
Several sources (all probably quoting each other) have said it will need hardware DRM that might be built into the next generation o processors. So the current batch of phones may be the last without the DRM. However no one knows for sure yet. I do know in the development and hacking area of XDA for Android, they are working on it.
+1 for Playon. It worked really well for me on my old Evo Shift (which had blazing dial-up type speeds), so I'm sure it'll work with the Inspire.
On applanet there's a working netflix. Ill post it

Maybe I'm making something out of nothing here, but if Netflix is charging for this type of service, how can crackle come in and deliver movies and TV shows for free without the movie industry and network television making a stink and/or threaten with lawsuits?
I really don't know too much about Crackle, but what I do know is, if something seems too good to be true, it generally is.
Not sure about what kind of agreement they have to pull this off but there are sure lot of ads while playing vids... and I mean right in the middle of it. Where they stick ads make no sense.
Steam quality is nowhere near Netflix.
Still, they got stuff for steam that are not available on netflix steam.
Covers lot of bases having both on my phone.
I did try it on the Sensation and it works. Sadly it doesn't work on my G-Slate. And yeah, the ad placement is horrible.

Guys and Gals of XDA, I think I've found the Holy Grail for the Xperia Play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.awindinc.sphone2tv&hl=en
A little app called MirrorOP Sender. Fully functional Android display mirror to PC and it runs fairly well.
Just played the first level of Super Mario Bros with only 1 death...Streamed from my Play to my PC connected to my TV through HDMI
All you need is the MirrorOP Receiver for the PC and you're good to go:
http://www.mirrorop.com/product_Windows_Receiver.html
The sender app is only a trial but it's worth a test. I'm not sure if the framerate is connected to how good your internet connection is. My internet isn't that good and it displays fine (portrait and landscape) but from some American speedtests I've seen maybe some of the Americans in here might have better results
Going to give ago. If works, extremely good find
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
Not bad, not bad at all! Excellent find!
Just found out you can also do it the opposite way as well if you get the MirrorOP receiver for your Play and Sender for PC
Runs brilliantly and means I can still access my desktop from the comfort of the toilet

Not worth paying for yet as just to slow for games. Can test out first as the apps are free for demo time. But this does have lots of potential in the long run. Still early days yet but if see how good splashtop is, this app good just be as good and fast with some more work done to it.
