[Q] The right phone for me? - General Questions and Answers

Sorry didn't find a phone reccomendations forum of any sort and this is questions and answers ^^ please move it if this is the wrong forum.
Basically requesting possible phones that may suit my needs after 2 years of cycling through phones that have displeased me in one way or another.
Previous phones in the last year: Blackberry bold 9700 Bold, Xperia X10, iPhone 3GS & HTC Hero.
They have all dissapointed me in one way or another.
Blackberry bold with its good integration of facebook and BBM, but is way too small of a screen for me.
Xperia X10i turned me off android, sorry but the android OS is just ugly to me ( but that could just be 1.6 & 2.1. ) Also battery was terrible it would be dead by 6pm in the day. multi touch also essential.
others weren't that great either.
My friend has an iPhone 4 and I play around with it alot, the screen resolution is great, everything is organised great and its good.. however the screens not big enough for me.
i'm looking for something in the market of 4-4.3"+ phones ( not tablets ), with good screen quality, not android unless it looks significantly better than that of 1.6 / 2.1. Good quality camera and screen is a must, 3.5mm audio headphones, great battery or the possibility to load one of those cases with an extra battery. 16GB-32GB storage internal / external.
what are my options?

My recomandation would be:
iPhone
HTC Desire HD
Based on your screen size requrements.
I listed the HTC even it is Android.
HTC's sense is a bit different than standard Android.
It might suit you.
Google for a HTC Desire HD emulator page or something.
I remember SE had some emulators for their phones back in the days.
So People could try'em out before they bought it.

I think you should try some phone run on windows phone7

Help in Buying new Phone.

Hi Guys.
I need help in buying a new phone. I am using a Hyundai A 200 with winmo 5 and i have'nt had any problems with it except for its massive size and low battery life. I wanna go for a new smartphone so after a long research and review reading decided to go either with HTC, Samsung and Motorola. The devices i was satisfied with were HTC HD2, Samsung I8000 OMNIA 2 and Motorola Milestone (DROID).
Price wise HTC HD2 - 28k, Samsung Omnia 2 - 28k and Moto Milestone - 27.5k [Am from India].
A few days ago i visited a mobile shop for a hands on approach to clear my doubts and finally decide. I Liked all the three devices but obviously sided with the HTC HD2. Things that actually blowed my brains were the sheer screen size, responsiveness, capacitive touch screen, 1Ghz Processor & SENSE... Though the Touchwiz interface of Samsung and Android Of Moto were Good but HTC Hd2 was just awesome. It was when i came home and started reading reviews of HD2 in-depth that i realized its camera had a pinkish hue, the device hung up (getting up from sleep mode) etc, that was disappointing.
I dont wanna spend 34k and end up with a laggy phone. I also read that the codec support in OMNIA 2 was way better than in HTC HD2 (not and issue cos I can always convert it to suppored formats ). The guy from the mobile shop told me android sucked esp since file transfers over bluetooth were'nt possible (but later i read that rooting made that possible), and my friends told me that Applications couldn be installed on the SD card in android but i read in the forums yesterday that an app "app2sd" or something similar made this possible. I am open to both Win Mo and Android.
So now am really confused I want to know if the HTC HD2 has these flaws and if custom ROM's covered these flaws? Should I go for HTC or SAMSUNG or MOTO? Which one is really worth the money?
Am gonna use the device for reading e-books & lotsa documents (esp Word and excel files), listen to music and watch a few videos, Gaming (occasionally), as a portable camera and video recorder (shots are gonna be indoors mostly so if someone could give me the results of indoor shots it would be really appreciable) and calls, texts and mails, of course!
I also noticed the poll results for the Best HTC device of 2009 and HTC HD2 bags 46.90%
Everything is pointing toward HTC HD2, so if I get a positive outlook for owners i would go ahead with it or i have to look into the alternatives. so, Please do update me with your suggestions and views.
Also do let me know if I should consider some other device or wait for another few months if any better device is in the making
Thank you in advance.
Send me 20k U.S. and I'll hook you up with any phone you want, ha ha.
Nah, just messin.
Anyways, go with Android, man. I would be so pissed moving from Android to winmo. I like my apps too damn much. I think I'm breaking down and getting a nexus one. Even after I swore I'd never get anything without a physical keyboard again. =[
If you gonna be using Word and excel files alot then you probably want windows mobile...go with the hd2 and its suppose to be getting windows phone 7, which is suppose to be alot better than WM or thats what i hear...
Go for Leo definitely!
Thank You
Thank you so much for your suggestions and prompt replies guys....
Still i read that HD2 in plagued with software lags, Hang ups, and other random issues.... any solutions for these issues??? are they hardware related or software related??? what about the pink hue bug in the photos???

Android's still got a lota snags right or thats what i understood after reading a lot of posts in this forum. Its Open source so we can expect nothing but the best and comparing it to the i phone or winmo doesnt do it any justice... Which is the better phone for the Android platform??? I was thinking of Se Xperia X10 or HTC Legend..... But after going through XperiaX10's wishlist i have second thoughts....
The Nexus is an awesome android device...and I don't have any snags that can't be tweeked
wow all the prices are very high.. you say HD2 cost still 34K which is circa 5900HKD here in Hong Kong the HD2 goes for 24.5K (4200HKD)
Anyhow as previously some mentioned if you need to sync with your PC and with Microsoft outlook for your PIM WM is the best.
Until now I can’t really see the advantages of Android over WM and especially Motorola which has not much devices on the market therefore it will be difficult to get support even here.
For my opinion it comes down to HD2 or Samsung. Between them I would choose HD2. However again for my opinion paying 34K for device that will not get an official upgrade is far too high.. I hope you guys going to not kill me but what is the price for Iphone???

I got a cofirmation mail from my phone retailer that the price is actually 28 k and not 36 k as mentioned in their site....
Moto is out of my mind too... HTC legend and se Xperia x10 were taken up in favor of android but still HD2 kicks butt when it comes to screen size....
Iphone 3GS 32 GB is 39 k here....
Pink Hue camera issue...
i read in a lot of forums that the hdt hd2 is plagued by a pink hue in the pictures taken with its camera and few say that its a hardware issue and others say its a software issue any ideas on this???? in the support page of HTC this update [Update for HTC HD2 – Digital Picture Enhancement
This update for HTC HD2 ensures every picture is captured in the clearest digital quality. The HTC HD2 and its twin LED flash will take beautiful pictures so you can cherish your memories forever] is available is this for the correction of pink hue????

help me choose a new phone?

Ok, I still have the tp2 on wm 6.5, lol I know..but finally I dropped it and it cracked the screen so I'm finally looking to get a new one..
I have been holding off forever b/c I was waiting for WP to develop and I havent been following it so much so, my question is which phone to purchase??
Android or WP and which are the best phones of each, must include keyboard tho..please help thanks
all the good phone or smartphone these days are touchscreen. if anything buy G2 from TMobile very powerful Android phone. It has physical keyboard. go to yuotube and watch some videos of rooted G2 phones.
I strongly recommend you an android phone. Atm the Galaxy 2 from Samsung should suit all your needs.
Which kind of physical keyboard do you want, horizontal or vertical?? The HTC Desire Z / G2 is probably one of the best phones on the market right now with a horizontal keyboard, but it's getting old...
If you want one with a vertical keyboard, but don't like them blackberries, you should take a look at the Samsung Galaxy Pro. More info about this one on www.samsunggalaxypro.com
I don't really follow up on WP7 phones, as i don't find that OS as attractive as Android
Hey if you have a good budget wait for the HTC Sensation, it'll take over from the HTC Desire HD as their flagship device. Good uuality device, dual core, good camera, great screen with gorilla glass... etc.
Why? IMHO HTC provide better support than Samsung, and their products are well made. I've had Samsung products in the past, lots on the spec side but always let down by poor support.
Another good reason is to find a device which should be popular amongst modders. The HTC Desire HD was extremely popular, lots of great custom ROMs, and I'd hope when the new Sensation comes out eventually there'll be more.
have you looked and the xperia arc?

[Q] HD2 Replacement....which phone to pick?

Hey everyone, I had an HD2, loved that it was hacked to the max with a million roms available, and that it was always updated to the newest android almost immedietly, unfortunately the wifi chip died 2 months later and i had to sell it.
Now im looking for a used phone on ebay basically, budget is max 250-300, the samsung vibrant looked good, but im affraid if i buy it ill be stuck on froyo or gingerbread, and not be able to update to android ice cream end of the year (while im sure the HD2 would be hacked to ice cream immedietly lol)
Seeing as the HD2 left a bad taste in my mouth so to speak, which phone would you recomend that has good dev support and most likely to be able to upgrade down the line? thanks
I have the HTC HD7 and I think you'll like it, the OS is AMAZING!!! And I saw it for 280* around Amazon.com
If you want android, but stick to the hTC family, they you should think about the hTC Desire HD. But if it's too expensive, the X10 from Sony will be also a good choice, and I saw it around 270* on Amazon. But the downside of Android is, that it is not sure when you get updates while WP7 (HTC HD7...) is.
Maybe, you should think about the iPhone, that thing has updates. And WP7 is also easy to update.
Since I don't know where you live and if you are a professional hacker or a noob, I just gave you recommendations that should fir almost anybody.
* New, unused price in EUR. Price may change depending on when you buy.

Of course,
EDIT As the guy abov333 said, The x10 is great too! But its best if you flash the miui rom that just came out for it
it adds multitouch and such stuff.
AND Miui On the desire has OTA updates!! :3
The HD2 is an amazing device,
so many hacks available for it c:
i had one But traded it since the size was a little to big for what i like,
I would for sure check if you can get an new HD2 (i mean used x3)
Or maybe the desire HD
Just as the Desire! I have one its an good size and there are tons of roms
just as CM7 and miui
even a sense 3.0 rom is out!
I would look for those since they will help you to continue with hacking in the future
Moon c:
THanks
thanks guys will check them out
I've had a HD2 for over a year and a half now, and have been using Android on it for nearly half that time. I've also played with WP7 on it, and was utterly disappointed. I loved WM6.5 so I expected a LOT from WP7, but it simply didn't deliver.
The Desire HD is the closest thing to a HD2 out there, but is obviously a native Android device. Android does get updated regularly (especially if you're a regular on this site), as I'm sure you know. Seriously, no disrespect to Tuskuno's opinion - I just disagree with it.
I'm just about to get a Samsung Galaxy S II on contract, but if I were going for an off-the-shelf stock phone, it would probably be the Desire HD.
You can't go wrong with getting a Nexus. A Nexus One is like $260 on ebay and has a great development community along with frequent updates because it's a google experience.
Nexus
That was my first choice, then I read about how its not truely multitouch and is problamatic in multitouch games, so i decided against it.
the desire Z (tmobile g2) looks like a viable option, priced around 200 on ebay
If you want to have the latest version of android in your phone, i suggest you pick one supported by Cyanogen. I dont have enought posts yet to include links, but there's a relevant list over at "cyanogenmod dot com slash devices".
its simple just go for the EU version of the Samsung Galaxy S.
sounds good
would love to but its too out of my budget, cant spend a dime over 300
Dude believe me and just stick with the hd2 a lot of development space towork with plus u get the best of three words wp7, wm, Android. The hd7 is virtually the same thing as the hd2 with there old school screens but the hd7 lacks development at the moment.

Have to second that.
Until something as good as the HD2 comes along, I can't think what I'll go for next.

HTC Sensation vs HTC HD2

This might seem like a stupid question, but having recently switched over from the HD2, I'd like to know what's new in the Sensation. I've noticed a few things such as the connected media app and that the phone is more powerful, but I can do everything I can do on the Sensation on my old smashed HD2, which is now more or less my dedicated media player.

As an ex HD2 owner/addict, the sensation was the ONLY smart choice for upgrading to the current gen of hardware. The HD2 was amazing in its hayday, but its time has come. I suggest keeping it as a pda/media player and for the love of flashing some amazing roms
The ONLY significant change was the hardware, considering you can have 3.0 roms on the HD2 that have pretty much the exact same features
Hdmi out and dnla are prolly the best "new" features for you. Video calling is a nice one too, I use it soooo much now that I have a ffc

I sitll have my HD2, running the new Coredroid rom (now it is fantastic), without SIM Card.
HTC Sensation is much better in many things, like camera, vídeo, faster browser, better graphics resolution, faster mobile network transfer data, processor power and others.
But HD2 battery is MUCH, MUCH better than this little thing wich powering Sensation.
There are a lot of ex HD2 owners, because came to HTC Sensation is a natural evolution.
In time: remember HD2 was made for run WM 6.5, but everyone became its fan running Android.
Whatever.
As the last guy said there is a natural pregression from the HD2 to the Sensation. As im sure most of you do as well I have a backup phone which happens to be a HD2. Well three of them but I work on phones but thats besides to point.
Since there still isnt a solid cyanogen rom ready for the sensation I still find myself shutting down the sensation and pulling the card out to go right back in the good old HD2. with a big smile as it boots up with that beautiful aqua blue of the always solid, always stable HD2 running Typhoon Cyanogen rom. sorry for the rambling I am just still very happy with my HD2(s).
I agree, I'm still very happy with my HD2 minus the smashedness, but it's still very usable, and I still do on a day-to-day basis.
I don't know about you guys, but I feel pretty let down by the DLNA...
I can connect to my...
Windows 7 notebook (through Windows Media Player)
Xbox 360 (Win7 notebook has to be running + picture streaming only)
I can't connect to my...
Xbox 360 (without running my notebook, can't stream audio or video)
Windows XP netbook (running old WMP, might work with WMP update)
HTC HD2
to be honest, I never knew much about DLNA before I tried it on my Sensation - I was hoping to be able to stream media between all those devices, bit of a disappointment really.
What about the MHL link? I don't quite understand it, I've read it up on Wikipedia but it didn't clarify things. So from what I understand, it's a cable with micro-USB on one end (for the phone), and HDMI on the other end (for your TV, or whatever) - what I was interested in finding out, is if there's an inexpensive way for people that don't have HDTVs to use it? Would it be possible for me to get a cable that goes to scart or one of those yellow, red + white type cables?
The extra power is nice, but the HD2 can still run all the games my Sensation can. In fact, I was a little disappointed when I tried to run Rocket Bunnies & Space Bunnies on my Sensation - they ran, but kept freezing, they run very well on my HD2, but it's no fun when it's smashed.
You can't compare them one has windows 6,5 and the other the sensation has android
I also switched sold it for 180 and bought the sensation 4g for 150+. I am Sso happy I did. The screen is perfect for one handed use. Not like the hd2. And higher resolution is beautiful. And the power button is at the top so I don't accidentally turn it on in my pocket and text/call people. Ahhh I do miss wp7 tho, I loved switching back and forth. I might just leave android for the mango update but well see.

If you like to be mainstream, get the iPhone. If you wanna be cool, desire hd, then if you wanna be nerdy, the hd2.

my phone is moto mb860 korea,I feel good
if you want to by a phone, you can choose Htc,because it has many rom resourses,Htc hd2 you can own wm6.5,wp7 and androd rom in your phone ,but it has long time in the market. htc hd is a good phone ,have many advantages and also have many good roms, such as cm7,miui and so on .if you want by ip,you can choose ip4!
If I had to choose between those phones, I have to say DHD. This is (by my means) the best alternative among those.
The iPhone also have som advantages, and I just changed my iPhone for a Sensation, and I haven't missed it a bit.
HD2
Buy HD2 (hundreds of roms ), it can look like Iphone, Desire, Sensation...
I had GS1 ... loved it ...
But now, with GS2 ... increadible,
Great phone.
Not with stock ROM, but with custom ROM (miui).
Faster, great light ... fantastic.
