[Q] Restoring S-ON - HTC Inspire 4G

Hey guys,
I recently got the Inspire 4G and set about rooting it and flashing the ROM. I used the Inspire Simple root tool and loaded Android Revolution HD 3.1. The process worked fine, but after noticing a few glitches I decided to revert the phone to stock until a later time. So I followed the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957692 and everything seems fine. The only problem is that I didn't check if the S-ON tool worked properly before loading the stock RUU, and it still says im S-OFF. So my phone is completely stock besides S-ON. Is this a problem? Is there a way to get S-ON back? Thanks for the help!

bubby made a S-OFF tool just go and download that tool and follow the instructions but it should be okay with S-Off

I want to go back to S-ON, but the S-ON tool will not work as I have already flashed the stock RUU back and un-rooted. Any suggestions?

Yes. Look in the return to stock thread. Clear D posted instructions. You have to do it in terminal emulator.

[GUIDE][2.3.4 OFFICIAL HTC S-OFF ROOT] Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.45.401.2-1.35.401.1_P2

THIS IS FOR UNBRANDED 401 PHONES ONLY! IT MIGHT WORK FOR OTHERS BUT I WOULD RATHER NOT TRY...
Update 2011/08/14
Added more information and details
Renamed thread into GUIDE
Using this guide will reset your device into a vanilla 2.3.4 HTC Sensation phone. Your SD-Card wont be touched and you will have S-OFF and root. This will lock your bootloader but that should not be a problem since you are still S-OFF and can flash whatever you want - except the bootloader. I tested these steps and i have a 2.3.4 401 Sensation with Locked HBOOT, S-OFF and root.
If you want S-OFF & ROOT on the latest HTC 2.3.4 ROM follow the steps:
1) Backup
2) Get S-OFF on 2.3.3 (Guide Thread)
3) Recover your phone with original 2.3.3 Update
http://www.filefactory.com/file/cc03797/n/RUU_Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.35.401.1_Radio_10.43a.900 7.00U_10.51.9007.27_M3_release_198179_signed.exe
4) Update to 2.3.4 via "Over The Air" (OTA) or using OpenRecovery (OR). I did not use the OR-Method but you can find a lot of information about here. I do not advertise any guides for the OR-method since i did not test them myself.
4) Execute step 2.1 to 2.6 from the Sensation Guide (Guide Thread)
5) Get root again: Sensation Guide 3.1 to 3.12 (Guide Thread)
Have fun!

How? Can some please explain step by step?
Thanks
anyone have a change log? google failed me for once in my life
The 2.3.4 update include an new hboot Version 1.18...
Are u sure that u can install cwm and root the phone again after applying the update?
I think u will be s-on again after the hboot get changed...
Everything I'm reading (the two other threads about this update) says the above method will NOT work. I don't think the OP even tried. Wait for a real dev to cook this up.

Oh boy Some of use knew this was gonna happen
do not flash this to a stock rooted rom - it will **** it up - wait for your favourite dev to update their rom
flashing this will give you the new locked htc bootloader and you will not be s-off anymore (even though it still says you are)
it's taken me nearly 3 hours to get back to normal

Hi all,
I've just done this update
Backup with Titanium
Reflash with 2.3.3 stock ROM (my Sensation was already S-Off)
OTA update to 2.3.4
ClockWork Recovery
Root
Restore with Titanium
Reboot and that's it
No OTA
I did exactly like shown in the first post, but i wont get the update ota. It sais that my phone is actually actual.
Could I have done something wrong?
Got the Sensation from T-mobile -> debrandet it like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193033
And used the RUU version from the first post.
Thanks
done as suggested - works fine for me!
I was off this weekend.
I posted this howto cause i did it with my phone. Whyever would i post a guide when it does not work?!

At least thats the case for me.

no - i did not try to.
I am pretty happy with my phone right now. Fast and long battery pack - replaced Sense with LP.
When testing the early (pre-soff) custom roms and test recoverys I had to flash stock RUUs a couple of times.
To get the phone back into a decent state I needed to pg58 flash eng&unsecured boot then root and fastboot recovery.
Can't for the life of me think why anyone would s-off their phone then install stock/ota for any reason (bar repair). It's like buying a track day race car, shouting "look what I've got" then pushing it around rather than thrashing it.

If you just flash the new hboot, it will say lock at the top of the bootloader screen. But you should be able to flash eng hboot, cause I just tried it.

Thanks. That's what I thought. I removed the hboot from the OTA before flashing it so couldn't confirm for myself. There's been a lot of conflicting information about whether phones are still S-OFF after running the unmodified OTA but it appears that they are. I only ran the RUU then OTA so I could have a backup of a stock 1.45 system.img.

[Q] How can i uninstall revolutionary?

Hey,
i can't access dev forum so i posted it here.
I have new Sensation with all updates. today i have installed Revolutionary and only this. Now i want back to original state of my phone, and get my warranty back, what can i do?
This is info about my phone:
Kernel:
2.6.35.13-g3422292
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT Mon Aug 1 15:03:50 CST 2011
Radio
10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M
Compilation
1.45.401.2 CL125597 release-keys
I want back to EXACTLY the same state of my phone that i have before installing revolutionary. Is that possible? Without loss of settings and data?
Read the S-OFF guide as the end of it is going back to S-ON

Be careful with that unlockr thing.
Mine won't work correctly now D:
U should have saved a backup of original os before wiping and flashing. Restore back to that then follow S-on instructions.
If u didnt save a backup, in the same thread S-on is in u can find original Pyramid downloads.
If you don't want to try theunlockr.com method take a look at this thread

I also would like to ask:
If I made a nandroid backup of original ROM according to S-OFF guide and anytime I´ll revert it back, will be the phone in the original state? It means without CWM and root? (except s-on)? Thank you.

Im not 100% sure but i dont think just using nandroid will remove S-off and the CWM. one thing id say is be really careful, ive tried to go back to S-on following the bottom bit of the S-off guide and bricked it after writing the secure flag command. still not sure what i did wrong...

You are probably trying to preserve you stock rom for backup before any flash-fest.
If this is the case then I am in the same boat. And the main reason for me is that there is no RUU available on the net for my Sensation. Which is the main obstacle when someone sends you to "go read S-OFF guide, S-ON section".
As far as I know you cannot uninstall Revolutionary.
If I am not mistaken it performs two things:
1) overwrites stock HBOOT with hacked HBOOT;
2) overwrites stock recovery with ClockWorkMod recovery.
So, besides that the rest of the system is intact (radio, system) as far as you've not installed root.
As a conclusion you cannot uninstall Revolutionary, you have to flash stock recovery and hboot back.
Everyone on the forum points a finger to RUU direction. But if you do not have RUU BUT have original stock recovery and hboot, theoretically you could flash stock recovery and stock hboot either using fastboot or manipulations with PG58IMG.zip file.
Unfortunately, I have not found the comprehensive and safe guide for these operations. And no-one on this forum wants to give a competent response to that
My first sensations wifi died on me so I took a chance and followed the direction on the thread I posted for you and it worked revolutionary was taken out stock recovery was installed and I was urooted you have to make sure you install the right RUU for your phone
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
So... i installed RUU again, then write secureflag 3, everything is working very fine now... i have warranty back?
I dont save copy, i get RUU from topic with RUU's ( i taken: RUU_Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.45.401.2_Radio_10.56.9035 .00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_208857_signed)
is everything OK? My phone is working, but i don't know if i doed all things...
flashed RUU, writen secureflag, and that's it.
Sorry for my english

Get phone back to stock

You have to install the Stock RUU, you can find it in the Development forum.
A guide for that is here:

(Point 5 and a little above)
//E It should get you No-Root, but you have to manually S-ON

Yeah, i think so.
1. Wipe Everything
2. Flash Stock ROM
3. Manually S-ON
4. => Stock Phone
Did you super CID your phone. You will have to change that as well. Quick guide is:
Download terminal from market (Free)
Type in getprop ro.cid - this will give you your orgional CID
Then Change SID
Downlaod rom and use RUU to install rom
Manually S-on
Stock phone.
I supercid ed when I rooted my phone

same kind of problem
Hi,
early i succesfully unroot my htc sensation to stock rom.
than i rooted it again, now i wanna go back to stock rom and i wiped my sd card, so i don't have a backup.
the same RUU i had used before won't work now.
how can i fix this problem?
thnQ
I think that you would have to find a RUU that matches your phone now, have you tried several RUU's for your CID?

Hi,
You should be OK to just install something like ARHD ROM
It contains root and recovery, which are installed when you flash the ROM...
On the [OP] is also a superwipe which will clean and prepare your phone for the new ROM.
Backup your stuff, place the superwipe and ROM on the root of your sd card and flash from recovery
Thanks for.your response but I'm really not interested in installing Custom Roms at the moment, just Stock Rom for now.
Can you please if u know or have any info on doing the.rooting and Custom Recovery by myself.

Easy enough ..find chainfires supersu thread and at the bottom download the attachment flash it..but before that..put your device in fast boot via USB..flash any recovery like say cwr(cwm) by typing fastboot flash recovery recoverynamehere.img then flash root file on your SD let me know if your confused

Revolutionary is an engineering (ENG) bootloader
Oh ok so ENG stands for Engeneering I thought it stranded for English, sorry but I'm still new to all this Android Terminology.
You know, someone should make a thread with all these android terminology and make it a Sticky.
Thanks for the info.
Btw, do you know since I got my Sm-Off back with GB and now I updated to ICS and I see that my bootloader says S-Off still, am I still good for Custom Recovery and Root?

HOLY CRAP! can this be any more confusing. I've been following this thread waiting for a final answer and still nothing. If anyone gets this done, please do a step by step for those of us not willing to blaze new ground here.
I know there are tons of us in the same boat. Upgraded to ICS stock and wanting to keep the ROM, just open ourselves up to CWM flashing options and root required apps.
Based on what the original poster is going through here, most of us do not want to chase down link after link.
I'll keep watching hoping for a final answer. Make the last post a link to the STEP by STEP.
Thanks all for your patience.
Look, you basically need a bootloader that says *unlocked*, *revolutionary* & *juopunutbear*.
If you are S Off but locked, flash an ENG Hboot.
If you are S On & locked, unlock using HTC Dev or S Off using JB.
Now, after this, flash 4EXT recovery & then root the device.
If your Hboot version is less than 1.27 flash firmware.
I'm assuming you are already on stock, so you have a stock rooted rom with custom recovery.
All of these can be done using my tool.
That's about as much I can help you with.
Also, when you talk about being new, look at when I've joined & when you'll have.
I got my first android phone a month ago & I'm on XDA since less than 3 weeks!
(No offence meant, but please try searching)

ok i just downloaded your tool from your the link under your signature and is version 6.4.2 and i think i remeber you or someone else suggesting that i needed to install the ENG option which is option 10 but then your tools says that option 10 in intended for devices who have been S-Off using the JB S-Off (juopunutbear or something, the wire trick thingy). so mine as you can see in the first post im S-Off but im still remained Locked from upgrading from 2.3.4 to 4.0.3 but i have never used the JB method, sooooo does option 10 applies to me or NOT?
how do i get the ***LOCKED*** to say something else? do i need a different bootloader or a different hboot or a different recovery or what?
what do i need to get: have in mind that im gonna try using your tool

also can you tell me with your tool in order to understand you better what would be the steps i have to follow in order to achieve all this? for example: step 1 for S-off, then step 3 for custom rec. ext4, then step 4 root device, etc, etc you know what i mean just for me to follow up without screwing up my device, since im gonna follow ur instructions to the letter.

Too many questions, seems you're confused.
Please head to IRC & find me there. SigPic (REALTIME IRC) has link.
EDIT: To briefly explain, it doesn't matter Revolutionary S Off or Juopunut Bear S Off.
The ENG Hboot is compatible with both.
After this, you can choose to install custom recovery if you want to or, just root right away.
It is always advisable to have custom recovery installed.

downgrading from 3.20.502.52 to 2.47.502.7

I have looked but not found any specifics on my question. I installed 3.20.502.52 RUU when my phone was already S-off and rooted prior due some issues I was having (big mistake, I know). I re-installed a recovery no problem (still s-off) and have been using custom ROMs since. I am actually thinking about flashing RUU 2.47.502.7 which was the original update to Gingerbread from Froyo because I am looking into playing around some with UOT. My concern is whether I will actually be able to flash the ruu safely or not. Since my bootloader was updated to 2.0, will it be downgraded back to 0.85? If so will I be able to utilize AAHK again?

Sounds simple enough. So once I flash the older hboot and run the ruu, I should be able to use AAHK to obtain root? Flashing the hboot should leave my s-off intact.

You will remain s off. If you want to remain on that ruu with root by using the hack kit you would have to revert back to s on before running option 1 again. Hack kit option 1 won't run successfully if you are s off already. I would just re flash recovery and then find a rooted version of the stock ruu and flash via recovery or use a PD98IMG.

After going back to the old hboot and flashing a recovery, I recommend flashing ClearDroid 1.3.0, booting and then flashing 1.3.1 without wiping. It is a very stable, customized version of the Gingerbread Sense 2.1 rom.

I know that AAHK has the option to revert back to stock unrooted and S-on. I tried it back when I first rooted just for the sake of doing so (was out of warranty anyway). If I flash the older bootloader, will AAHK revert everything to unrooted and s-on regardless of what ROM I am using? I am currently on CM7. If leaving CM7 in place and flashing the PD98IMG.zip then AAHK immediately after will work it will actually save time.
I am wanting to do some UOT from scratch on this so I can learn. I have upgraded my contract and got the AT&T Galaxy S3. Now I am taking the Inspire to use as a test phone and personal ROM development learning just because. I want to have fun with it since I am no longer relying on it as my daily phone.

I don't see why that wouldn't work. As long as you have the older hboot it should do the stock s on process. Then just run option 1. You should dabble in using dsixda kitchen if you want to start learning Rom cooking. You can take the rom.zip from the ruu and just root it and install busy box and create your own Rom.zip.
