Official Netflix Leaked!! (updated: 3/16/2011) - Android Apps and Games

A version of the official Netflix app has been leaked. See here:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...apk-leaked-probably-wont-stream-anything-yet/
and link to dl app:
http://lts.cr/TY5
Apparently streaming doesn't work on most (all?) devices. I was hoping someone here could fix that
EDIT 3/16/11
I've uploaded some lib files that may or may not help (in lib.zip) extracted from the LG Optimus 2x. It would be ideal if we could have system/lib dump from the Revolution but I couldn't find it. There are a number of DRM, "OMX", and video/audio codec related libs in here. Perhaps someone is willing to put these in their lib, set permissions, and try netflix again?
More info on OMX here? http://www.omappedia.org/wiki/OMX_Android

Damn, can't even sign in on the app. It closes every time.

Yea streaming is indeed borked. Could it be possibly because they haven't gotten their servers completely ready. Thanks for posting nonetheless. Can't wait to get this working.

cant wait for this. The interface looks good and is quick. I'm interested to see how much tinkering is needed to get this to work.

I was able to log in on my device. When I go to play a video, however, I get the message:
Sorry we could not reach the Netflix service. Please try again later. If the problem persists please visit netflix.com (1005)

Same thing here. Any way to work around it?

There is probably some sort of DRM service baked into the ROM that this hooks into. The question is whether said service can work independently from the LG framework and whether it requires actual hardware support.

I hope someone can get it working.
Would love to get Netflix on my Galaxy Tab!

Both the MSM8655 and MSM8255 chipsets have the DRM hardware (the only difference between them being that the 8655 has CDMA suppport and the 8255 doesn't.) This means that people with the mytouch 4g and other phones with the same chipset should be able to eventually get it working. Anyone else may have a much harder time. I'm not sure if any of Qualcomm's other chipsets have the same DRM support. And then there's Samsung...

i wonder if the g2 has te same chipset. i read that its the same sec-gen snapdragon but i know for sure the g2 is underclocked.

The G2 is MSM 7230.

ah. so its a no go for me

same here on cappy

I've managed to get a different reaction from the app than most people seem to. When I try to stream a video I get the same error everyone else does, but when I try to resume a video I was streaming previously on my xbox and then paused I get no error.
The video still doesn't stream, it hangs indefinitely on the loading page, but it is at least a different reaction, and may be enough for some one more tech savvy than me to go on in terms of figuring out where to go on fixing this app. I've tested this on both my Galaxy Tab and my myTouch 4G.

The dump doesn't have a lib folder... I was looking forward to looking through the codecs. I'll take a look later to see if they moved them elsewhere. The hardware decoding is controlled by the OMX files, isn't it?

There is a lib folder in the apk.

NETFLIX APK from LG Revolution System Dump

Saw this hasn't been posted yet in the Evo forums and wanted to post it.
It is the Netflix apk from the LG Revolution system dump.
The app loads fine and I can log in to Netflix fine, and see movie categories, etc.
Run into problems when I click on a movie to stream: I get some sort of 1005 Error saying it cant connect to Netflix servers.
I am hoping the Devs can work some magic and get this working on our Evos!
UPDATE:
I also attached the DRM Odex and APK file I found inside the system dump.
I am in the process of putting up the system dump zip via Rapidshare at the moment!
Would appreciate the thanks button!
UPDATE 2: LG Revolution System Dump http://rapidshare.com/files/452738666/LG_Revolution_SystemDump.zip
I run into similar problems. Pretty cool to know it is close to being in our devices.
Interesting!!!
Where did you get the dump? There's may be some DRM files in their thats needed to work. The blockbuster app is setup that way.
Downloading the system dump now. Will be uploading as soon as I get it.
Cool......
May take a while uploading though, since I dont have a premium rapidshare account, etc and the zip size is about 442mb.

+1 I'm also excited to finally feel like I can utilize that "premium data" fee of $10 a month!

now the thing is have the DRM where do we need to put it to get it to work? any ideas if show please share them
I tried replacing the LG Revolution DRM apk with the DRM apk originally in the Evo, but no dice. Changed permissions and all, but its not working....
Figured start with the most simple solution, but nope didnt work
i was trying to move them around to but we also need to get into the apk and find the code for each phone's type of processor that isnt snapdragon so it will function with hummingbirg and qualcomm ect if we can do that then we are in business

how will this get us in business? we would still need to be able to contract the DRMs with the device as well as with the original APK itself? theres more to it then just that, but technically any device with a qualcom snapdragon processor should be just fine, thats who netflix is working with and as seen at wmc and the such netflix was running just fine. so we definitely need to figure this out!
GO DEVS GO!!!!!
EVO is not properly DRM compliant...

One will need to crack the apk to think that the device is compliant.

Probably because it's supposed to launch with that device, likely an exclusivity deal. Netflix probably doesn't have their service hooked up for android yet, because it's not supposed to be available.

Netflix?

anybody got netflix working for the infuse? i tried the stock 1.2.0 and modded 1.2.0 before seeing that 1.2.1 is out and doesnt have device check anymore so it doesnt need to be modded but its still closing the program after i log in.

Yeah, I tried as well this morning with the same results. BTW just wanted to note my infuse is rooted.
Rooted infuse with no device check apk same result
tried. Installs fine, but closes after trying to sign in

Thanks for the the 1.2.1 download. I was able to get the 1.2.0-No device check.apk version to install and launch. Everything but streaming is working (i.e. add to queue, search, etc.). One thing I haven't tried yet is to 'deactivate' one of my devices that I use to stream Netflix. Remember, you only get 6 unique devices at a time. I had to do this when I got my AppleTV2 and realized that between the xbox360's, blu-ray player and the multiple iphone/Pads in our house, that I had run out of activations (got a message that the ATV2 couldn't access Netflix Instant, blah, blah, blah... a similar one to what I'm getting when I try with the Infuse), so I deactivated the blu-ray and was able to use my ATV2 just fine.
Will post if this works.
deactivating devices doesnt make a difference. and i dont appear to be limited to 6 devices anymore, i now have 9.
What it's going to boil down to is to modify a gingerbread rom and most importantly a kernel to get it onto an infuse. That's the only way we're gonna pull this off.....
Or just wait. =]

Hulu Plus for Android

Just thought I'd share some news I saw this morning:
Hulu Plus for Android
Hopefully, we will see the Thunderbolt added to the compatibility list... or maybe a Dev will take a look at it.
+1, I have a HULU subscription and not a Netflix. I have been waiting for this and of course the T-Bolt is not supported but My X that i sold. "sigh"...Please HULU or devs....make this work, i will be forever greatful.
Has anybody tried to download the apk and install it on the Thunderbolt? Is it the same error we originally had with Netflix? (Unsupported device)

Could someone explain in terms if hulu and netflix, what makes one device compatible and another not. I mean the tbolt should be better in every aspect than the droid x (hence my upgrade) yet it works on that device. Someone mentioned that it works on the HTC inspire. How is that different than the tbolt?
Just hack flash and run it in the browser, works just fine there

That sucks even more. I thought there was some real technical hardware or software reason but thats just plain model discrimination.
Wonder how HULU decides on this wish list
Thats what I dont understand... Isnt the HTC thunderbolt and HTC Inspire have the same specs besides the Network bands... Why release for the Inspire and not the thunderbolt??
how do you guys have netflix? is it from GB?
Hulu Plus appears to be available for Froyo phones, good for many of us (Inspire and Atrix I know are both on Froyo)
One would think someone will hack it just like Netflix. Who knows how these companies are deciding what devices to support but it's frustrating!
There has been a hulu hack out for a while now. I have been running hulu since the hack like 2 months ago. If you are rooted you can use hulu

After reading through someone's logcat while running hulu plus, it only seems not to work because it's sniffing your phone type. Just need to edit the app to not detect it or as mentioned already, change your build properties. I dont have hulu+ so can't really find the solution easily myself.

Wifi Display / AirPlay / Android Transporter

Hi community,
based on ICS we developed "Android-Transporter" which is similar to WiFi
Display or Air Play. It allows you to transfer your display to another
device. For a demonstration see http://esrlabs.com/android-transporter.
To implement this efficiently we had to hack the platform, to allow us to
grab the screen content in the surface-flinger. The image is then encoded
with the standard media-encoder which uses the hardware acceleration of
your mobile. The result is streamed with rtsp to another device (the demo
shows another mobile, but this could also be a tv or media-center).
Right now this is just a hack, but we plan to continue our work on
this. The next steps on our road-map are:
- Dual screen support with accompanying SDK.
- WiFi Direct support.
- We plan to open-source our patches for the Android platform.
For the last point we thought of the brilliant cm9. Would this be of
interest for the cyanogenmod community? If you are willing to give this a
try, we would love to contribute to cm9.
Regards,
Christian Köstlin

Thanks for your interest. If you have two Nexus-S at hand I could provide you with an ICS-4.0.3-based images.
Both devices should already be in the same WiFi-network, as we do not
have WiFi-direct for the Nexus-S (for the demo I just created a
portable WiFi-hotspot with one of the devices). Additionally you need
two small apks (one one the client, one on the server, which I would also provide) to initiate the video-transport between the two devices. After a NFC-bump the connection should be established and the display mirrored from one
device to the other.
As this is not yet a final release, I would like to give you the links to the images and the apks by private message.

As the protocol is based on rtsp/rtp, our first version (altough with a
higher latency) was between one device and gstreamer or vlc on a
desktop pc. Right now the setup is a little bit complicated, but if
you have a Nexus-S at hand and are willing to experiment a little bit,
I could provide a link to a ICS-4.0.3-based system-image for you.
As the software is still in experimental stage I would prefer to give you the link only in a private message.

Actually NFC is not essential to the screen-transfer. It just makes the setup easier. Right now we just have the Nexus-S images, but we are also working on a Galaxy Nexus-port.
As a target we also did play with a Xoom (which worked out-of-the-box, but with a bad latency).
We would love to get some coverage on the portal, but we do not know what would be interesting for you guys. Also we would like to show you the hack on your own devices.

Hi conantroutman, your comment got us to think about a possible article for the portal. We really would like to show the stuff we did with Android Transporter. Possible content for an article could be:
Changes to the platform that we had to do.
Problems we still have and discussion with the community how to solve them (e.g. a big part of the latency is due to omx in the nexus-s)
Outlook to adaptions to the theme: "standard based transfer of screen content
Currently we are also preparing an audio track for the youtube video, to explain a little more about whats going on.
We really would like to raise the interest in this, so that we could get some chance and perhaps even help to integrate the patch into one of the bigger roms (like cm9).
Perhaps you could help us with the article to streamline it to the needs and interest of the xda-developers community.
hoping to hear from you!

currently this is a complete custom rom for Nexus-S based on the original google ICS source. I hope we will be able to integrate the patch into a widely available rom like cyanogenmod. If it's finished no root access should be necessary.

Ok, first off this is amazing.
Second, I have a Nexus S for Sprint and I am adept at backing up and testing new ROMS so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me you have something I could test. I am absolutely desperate to try this out for a video podcast I work on.

I, as an owner of a Galaxy Nexus, would love to able to test this out for you guys. If there is ever a port for the GN or need some guinea pig to try out the software and provide feedback consider me your guy!
I have a question for you. When this is released, will it be open sourced? I ask because if you can stream the display, this could similarly be used to transfer large files as well. This functionality does not exist on many wi-fi direct devices.
Again, this. is. kickass.

T-mobile HD Audio Codec [SOLVED]

Hello all!
As you may know. T-mobile is the first carrier offering support for HD audio and I'm stoked. Only within certain high end phones though.
Question is can we get HD audio on the skyrocket since it can run on T-mobile 4G and only a codec is necessary? Any other limitations?
***Also seems an audio codec AMR-WB is necessary. anyway to get around that codec? could a software update do it? an awesome XDA app maybe?
Here's my source (http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2013/04/how-hd-voice-works-to-make-your-calls-clearer/)
amongst many other articles on the web.
Thanks in advance! All well thought input is appreciated and expected
EDIT! [POTENTIAL SOLUTION]
I've learned that the app "Pimp My ROM" allows you to enable or disable AMR-WB! To confirm this working I need someone to test it, post your results!. Here's what you have to do::
1. Be unlocked and rooted (of course)
2. Insert a working tmobile Sim.
3. NETWORK REQUIREMENT Have to have service above **edge/2G!! you could try anyway lol
** Means you need 3G service or faster.
4. Install, Pimp My ROM and enable AMR-WB.
4. Make a call to someone who you know has a phone which is HD audio capable, they must meet the same network requirements.
For reference this is what HD audio sounds like http://www.dialogic.com/en/solutions/mobile-vas/hd-voice.aspx
One is regular the other is HD sound.
Hit Thanks if this works or at least helps!
EDIT #2
I have concluded from reviewing skyrocket spec sheets and reading up on audio codecs that the skyrocket does not have the proper audio codec built in which I learned is a requirement.
So disregard this very very hopeful thread lol I will consider this solved :/

Good point thanks!
I poked around a little more btw what you want is AMR-WB. I've seen a few posts that it can be enabled on the S2 kindof sortof by adding ro.ril.enable.amr.wideband=1 in the build.prop. This might be a case where you'll need to play with radio's and ril binary files. it also sounds like there's not a good way to tell if wideband is in use :/.

This might be a case where you'll need to play with radio's and ril binary files. it also sounds like there's not a good way to tell if wideband is in use :/.

Not our phone but it talks about trying different radios and ril binaries like you said. The link above mentions AMR-WR being enabled and/or allowing the setting to be changed by certain ROMs/Radios.
I'm gonna get a little funky and mess with different combos of our Skyrocket stuff and the Hercules Stuff. This enigma will be no more! Will report back in days/weeks/months however long until I solved.
