I think there is no android 2.2.2 just 2.2.1...
Edit: scratch that, there is 2.2.2 but it removes a bug that i have never seen on sgs or sg3...

Froyo is not worth using right now. JIT does not work right and there is no froyo kernel for the captivate. Try using I9000 rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734871
Well I do I get a 3d app trap is that a froyo thing? And is the I9000 worth the bugs?

Froyo will be officially released for the captivate in a couple weeks.
your better off just waiting for that.
If I do the standard froyo update will I still have super user access?

Are you sure you want to upgrade to Froyo right now? Given the nature of your questions, you would likely be much better off waiting until an official, supported 2.2 update is pushed out OTA, or at least a stable/community supported rom.

Does your bluetooth have bad static when using it. I tried the JM2 and JM5 ROms and using the Captivate kernel with it and people on the other end couldn't even hear me.
I went back to the Captivate ROM and no issues at all.
Anyway you guys could direct me to somewhere I could read up on the info I need to understand flashing roms and what they do for me. Also when I upgrade to froyo rom or official will I still have super user access.

On the xda app just back out of this thread and section. Select the captivate android development section. Select the stickies tab. Its the first tab. Says eclair and froyo rom.

[Q] Voodoo Kernel Questions for Cellular South Showcase

I am attempting to follow the "Newbie's Step-by-step" guide for the Showcase on Cellular South. I have rooted my phone and downloaded the files needed to install RomManager and Clockworkmod Recovery (I haven't installed everything yet, still getting the hang of my root file manager).
Before I continue on, I wanted to make sure that I have the correct version of Voodoo for my phone. I am using a stock but rooted 2.1 os that comes standard on the Showcase. I followed the link to the Voodoo Kernel thread to download the zip file but kept getting error messages from the dropbox site. After a bit more looking, I found a Showcase Voodoo kernel. The name of the file is eb11_voodoo.zip
Is this the correct version for my phone?
I have been reading these forums for several days looking for this answer.
I would assume that since I would be replacing the kernel of the stock os that it would not matter what the original os version was, but I want to be absolutely sure.
Also, is it possible to use the Voodoo kernel while maintaining the rest of the stock 2.1 os? I really just want to be able to use lagfix and voodoo audio controls.

Small world im from brookhaven too!... But to answer your question that zip is for EB11 2.2 not 2.1. I am not sure right off what kernels are available for 2.1. I upgraded to 2.2 with the modem and used OTB 1.6 kernel when i did my phone. You should try pnp v1 for showcase it is a pretty safe and basic rom for staying close to factory and gives you 2.2.
According to cell south's Facebook page, they are suppose to release 2.2 for the showcase by the end of the week if you can wait. If not you will need a dj20 2.1 voodoo kernel.

You should probably just wait until cellular south releases 2.2, then use a voodoo kernel. I don't know of any voodoo kernels for 2.1 that include the audio controls.

Would having eclair rooted cause problems with a stock froyo update?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Also, does anyone have a link to a mirror to download the 2.1 voodoo dj20 kernel?

see the showcase thread in the themes and apps section for link.

These are the ones where the link was broken on dropbox. I think the op must have pulled the files from his account. Unless there are other links I'm not seeing.

Read later on in the thread, I think there are links there somewhere as I seem to remember.

I think I would wait for Phidelt82 to fix the new 2.2 build and flash it. I have never cared for, or been happy with CS released upgrades. I always give them a shot but end up flashing other roms within a week due to the disappointment in their versions. Just my two cents.

XXJVS 2.3.5 (port candidate?)

Note: official XXJVS 2.3.5 version of gingerbread was released for I9000 on September 11, 2011. CWM flashable deodexed version has been posted in the Vibrant forum (see link.) Candidate for porting to 4g? I've downloaded it and I'm looking at it...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258224
Just an fyi for those that may be unaware. DO NOT FLASH THIS ON YOUR SGS4G!
Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk
no of course not, it has to be PORTED to 4g first. I figured everyone knew that you can't flash raw Vibrant roms to the 4g because we don't have an internal SD card. But someone has already taken care of the button mappings by porting it to Vibrant.
It's also an almost stock rom with no fancy additions, just gingerbread 2.3.5. Maybe Samsung will issue this for 4g soon but if not, a PORTED version might be a nice base for new custom roms.
I would never do such a thing, but reading through the brick threads, others have tried and will try to flash a non t959v ROM.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk
Yes i seen it happen to people thinking because they look the same they are the same..completely diffirent
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Yeah and not just Vibrant roms either, if I remember right. This is just a heads up in case anyone wants to try to modify the rom or mine it for possible apps, or something.
I decompiled framework.jar and took a look at it, but here is the interesting problem about trying to port this rom. It's 2.3.5 gingerbread and we don't have a 2.3.5 kernel or modem for the 4g so we'd have to use a kernel and modem from gingerbread 2.3.4. So would that not work? I don't know. We haven't seen any gingerbread leaks from Samsung for a while and this rom was leaked for the I9000 on September 11th so do you suppose there may be a 2.3.5 rom coming out for the 4g?
I ported this using the gb kernels and got stuck on the boot animation screen. I'm going to probably work on it after I'm done with 2.3.5 miui port and release it.

Tried looking for 2.3.5 on samfirmware.com but they don't have it.
EDIT
Went to the website that twitter account links to. Found this:

Looks like Samsung beat us to it. I was wondering if they might. And I picked today to leave my phone at home.
Great news. Thanks for all the info

[Q] How to root Cappy with official Gingerbread?

I upgraded my 2.2 rooted Cappy to 2.3.5 using Samsung Mini Kies everything worked perfect and now I want to root my phone again, any help with this?

Sorry friend but you're going to have to have to flash a new kernel to allow you to root.

I agree. The method currently posted is way too complicated

Check the development section. You'll find a huge collection of updates. Personally, I'm using CM9(ICS 4.0.4) by fjfalcan.
Take your pick
Like napnau said, there's a huge collection from which to choose.
Some of the recent hot ones in development:
CyanogenMod 9.0.0-RC0-MilestoneXT720 beta
MIUIv4.0-Motorioxt720-2.5.4-beta
CronosX (Android2.3.7) for XT720 - RC2.1
And there's more where that came from
But am talk about the official because i am stell in warranty
I don't want lose it

If you just looked in the net, Motorola confirmed that they won't be releasing any updates/upgrades on our unit. So, your best chance of having the latest Android OS is to flash a custom rom. Thanks to our humble developers who made it possible.
