[Q] SMS shows received time not sent time - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a question.. is it possible to change the settings so that text messages that we get show the time as the sent time instead of received time.
I did a search for this on the forums (and google) and i believe someone worked on it for the galaxy s I9000. Is there anything we can do for the Nexus S. I also saw that there is an app called SMS Timestamper fix which adds the correct times to the texts, but i just wanted to know if its possible to fix it in the phone settings itself?
Thanks,

the SMS time fix is only to show received time, not sent time
the sent time should be recorded properly as it uses the time you sent out on your phone

In my messaging app, I can't see "Use original timestamps"...I am using the default messaging app. Any ideas?

Im not sure if you are thinking the same as me. I dont have any issue with the time being an hour behind the correct time (which is what i understand the time fix is for, but correct me if i am wrong).
The situation I have at the moment is, say i am in an area without reception and people send me smss. I do not receive them, but as soon as i go into an area with reception, all the sms's arrive on my phone. However, the time associated with the sms's is that of when they arrive on my phone (ie when i have just moved back into an area with reception), and not the time they were sent (which would be much more useful).
Hope that makes sense, and sorry if you did understand my problem already.
I have searched in the default messaging app, but i cant find the settings Use original timestamps. Maybe I am missing something.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,

I just checked and use original timestamp is there indeed. Check it again man.

very odd indeed... i checked again, i went to messaging app (the default one with the green bubble icon with smiley face), settings, and definitely not there for me. I see settings for delivery reports, but not a "use original timestamp".
I am running the deodexed stock rom with voodoo kernel, posted by master, perhaps this is causing the issue? (i actually believe i have never seen this setting on my phone even when i was running 100% stock with normal kernel).
Is there anyway i can reinstall the default messaging app?

handcent: see all sms received

I try for some day handcent sms,I like it a lot,but I have a problem:
Handcent don't display the old sms that I receivet. it display the last (i don't count the number) that i received.
How can I do for see all sms received?
someone can help me?
I believe if you go into settings in Handcent you should have a setting to show a button to display older messages. It is either in receive messages settings or customize, I forget which. Unfortunately, this may only work AFTER you have enabled it. Try going into the stock messaging app to see if you can find the message(s)
you are looking for. Also, there is a setting that is in both Handcent and the stock app how many messages to save. Try setting it to a higher number (500 instead of 200). Hope this helps.

Any way to fix the SMS messages being out of order on the GB Roms?

Seems only the GB sense roms have this issue... anyone know of a fix?
Thanks
Download Go SMS. Under services (or something? one of the last two options) go to the bottom and change message order from something like "time received" to "order received" the times will still be wrong but your conversation will at least be in order..
Or try Handcent I'm sure there is a similar feature
try SMS Time Fix from the market. It worked for me when I was on GB. Its free too!!
thanks!!!

I don't see why it wouldn't work, it orders everything based on when you received it and not the time.. I tried both last night and they still worked for me..

OTA 3.32.401.5 bug list (HTC Sensation only - NO XE please)

Hi all, I decided to start this thread and help devs (and HTC) to fix some bugs that I noticed on stock 3.32.401.5...
(and don't give me "why don't you root it" advice since this is my bussiness phone so that is not an option)...
This is my list that I noticed within few days of use, feel free to list yours..
1. Missed calls are no longer registered in notification bar, notification pull-down menu or LED (EDIT: there is an option for this and it was turned off so it is not a bug)
2. stock browser sometimes opens random page from history (instead home)
3. when entering system settings (for random option), phone goes to lockscreen instead pressed option (happens randomly)
3. battery life seems to be better on Gingerbread than ICS (this is my subjective opinion, please confirm)
4. video and picture quality seems to be better on Gingerbread than on ICS (although I like new Scenes options )
5. People app links contacts with Facebook by default
6. HTC sense app is approved by Facebook without promting user
7. Although all contacts (in People app) are delinked with Facebook, some contacts in messaging app (SMS) are still linked (very annoying, now i have two different names for same person, one in messaging app and other in People app)
8. searching through contacts displays contacts from Facebook and people app (although it is not linked with FB, FB sync is off - HTC, I DON'T WANT MY PHONE TO BE RAPED BY FB, THERE IS AN APP FOR THAT)
9. Power saver options are missing
10. GPS and WiFi switch are gone from quick settings (in notification pull-down menu)...
11. UI design elements are not consistent (mixture of sense and vanilla ICS)
That it for now (if I missing an option, and mixed it for a bug, please tell me )...
Overall ICS is MUCH better than GB (especially for disable app options, which gave me extra 100mb of free RAM), just needs to be polished a bit...
Edit: it seems that i managed to get rid of fb contacts by removing fb account and signing in again and clicking dont sync (although i did choose not to sync before, but that didnt work first time)
1080p landscape playback = lower framerate than gb

- Exchange mails : The parameter of the message size and number of message will default back after a moment ....
- The weather widgets don't refresh after unlock...
- Sense launcher not locked in memory
- Browser opening the last page all the time...

I think its just you, most users are getting far better battery life out if ICS than GB
I used to only get 18 hours on GB but now on ICS I can go for up to 28 hours (both on medium usage)

Ok, i'll investigate...i installed current widget and set it to log...
Mobile and wireless connections are turning on without user input.
Data connection is being established even if it was explicitly forbidden during initial setup. Hard reset, even wipe does nothing. I've seen this on multiple vanilla devices (S-ON, no root, never tampered with).
If you don't have good data plan or if you are using prepaid cards, DO NOT upgrade to ICS.

If that had worked, would I've bothered to ask? Obviously not. Data connection turns on spontaneously, bypassing any and all settings. Those phones had mobile connections turned off by default.
Thanks for the tip about that fix though, I will look into that.
Edit: If anyone else has the problem, here is the supposed fix.

Maybe I should have been a bit clearer. By turn it off I meant in every boot go to settings and turn it off. Annoying yes but your suggestion of "Don't upgrade to ICS is not on decent data plan" was and is a bit extreme.
There are other fixes as well like using juice defender to manage mobile data (I'm sure there are others too but I use JD)

I already had it off and keep turning it off, that is the crux of the issue. Whatever HTC messed up, it completely rendered mobile data connection control useless. I have seen the system-wide use data toggle button turn itself on just after I disabled it. As I understand it, that shouldn't be possible. It's as if some process is overriding user settings at whim.
And that keeps happening, even with juice defender.
I am hoping that this will make situation a bit clearer.
my SD card is being unmount very often!
And it seems that my battery drain was caused by 3rd party apps (astro being n1, folowed by some useless apps)...
17hrs and 45 % battery to go (moderate usage)
Lost SMS messages
After u/g I have lost all my SMS messages from history - ok, not all as a single thread from my daughter shows up with perhaps 50 messages.
I have restored from previous backup and it shows successful restore of 600+ messages, but I can't see them - also the folder option has disappeared?

Sms not being sent

I installed Go SMS because i love the features especially the pop notification. Using the app, I've come to realize that text messages are not being sent. It just stays there and never sends. I looked at HTC's messaging app and the text also displays there are being sent but never sends.
Has anyone else had a problem sending texts with GoSMS?
I uninstalled Go SMS and using just the default to see if Go SMS was the one causing the issue
maybe I am the only one.
I've had this issue as well. Sometimes it will just say text not sent and never send.
Other times I will get an error saying text not sent but it did indeed send so I end up sending two of the same.
Best thing you can do with this is pull the SIM card and re-insert it. This problem, if existing, affects more than just people who use GoSMS as GoSMS is just a skinned texting surrogate. Sure, it sends and receives texts, but it does so using the frameworks of the main messaging app on your device. I've encountered this problem with the main messaging app, and I just pull the SIM or put it in airplane mode for a few seconds then take it off and it's fixed it every time.
Hope this helps.

Does the issue go away after doing that or does it come back? Should I turn off the phone when I remove the sim or should I do it while it is on?
If a text doesn't send for me I can still send one right after and that one sends fine.
so for the past 2 days i used HTC's messaging app and everything always sent. just now i redownloaded GO SMS and the second text i sent, it did not send so it must be something else

For what it's worth, gosms works fine for me other than the recipient used to get duplicate messages. I froze the stock messaging app and changed gosms settings to control text delivery and it's been all good so far. It's not an ics compatibility issue, it's sense. Hope that helps

So i have found out what is causing my text not to send. If I reply to a text using the pop notification while I am in another app like Google Chrome or draw something, the text does not send. When I go to go sms, I can see the green arrow showing that it is sending but it never does. The only times I can successfully 100% of the time send a text from the pop up notification is if I am on the home screen instead of within another app. Can anyone else test this for me to see if I am the only one with this issue?

So even if you reply from the pop up notification while within another app, your text message sends?
Since there is no way to root the AT&T HOX without it being discovered by htc/at&t, I haven't rooted and therefore can't freeze the messaging app

I had completely forgotten about chomp. Thanks for reminding me. I started using it and while I still get messages not sending if I reply to a text from the pop up notification, it doesn't do it nearly as much as go sms. With go sms, the message not sending would happen one after another but not with chomp. And even though I don't like the sound, I've set chomp to make a sound after a successful sent message so at least I can tell if my message has sent without having to open the app.
Thanks again for mentioning chomp

I'm having the same issue with texts not sending from the pop up window. It doesn't happen all the time but enough that it's annoying and I always go to the app to make sure it sent, which kind of defeats the purpose of the pop up. I haven't noticed whether it was when I'm in another app or not. However, it's not that it just doesn't send, it's totally lost. There will be no record of it. Other times messages seem to just get stuck sending and I have to click edit and resend in order to get them to go through.
GO SMS has also become very laggy. I can't really type when it's sending or receiving a message. If I'm typing during this time, it's delayed in showing what I've typed and auto-correct and word suggestion don't work. Also, when I leave a conversation and go back to the main screen, it takes several seconds to update the threads. Long enough that I can click on one but then it takes me to the wrong one because it's updated. I thought maybe I just have too many messages. I've set it to limit messages to 700 per thread. Anyone else experiencing these issues? I think I'll try Chomp again until these issues are fixed.

[Q] number above message envelope won't go away

Hello everybody, I usually hangout over at the HP Touchpad forums, but just got this new SG3 that's begging to get rooted.Anyways, the little number that shows up above the messaging icon on the gs3 homescreen won't go away for me.I delete all the threads and however many number of threads that I had going disappear from the messaging app, but on the home screen the number still stays there. I can reboot and it goes away.
Any help would be appreciated.I printed out the 200 page manual but haven't gone through the whole thing yet. Most of it though. Is it something that I am missing to clear the number, or is it something with the phone ? Thanks.
I would clear data for the messaging app and see if that resolves the issue.

Update : I figured it out.Under settings/ developer options / apps/ do not keep activities: destroy every activity as soon as the user leaves it. I had a check mark in the box. I guess it was killing the app right after I deleted the text then I when back to the home screen it would still show a number above the messages icon. Maybe it didn't clear the messages number? WhenI leave the box unchecked and go back to the home screen after I delete the messages the number would disappear above messaging icon. Weird.
Thanks for the suggestions.
