Why wouldn't a deodexed vibrant 4g rom from stock work on a vibrant 4g?

Has anyone flashed this yet?

There is still no correct cwm to flash this. If you do try you will mess up your phone. Do not use.

Last night I acctually got CWM to install and do a nandroid backup OK, but I forgot to backup the backup directory before continuing to flash the 4G_Fix then as everyone found out it wiped my External SD. I guess that's what happens when you stay up too late. I was able to Oden-Tar back a couple times but could not get the CWM to do a clean backup after that. Sure wish I had that backup file.... Oh Well...

Since this doesn't have CWM, this will not work.

From stock, just reinstall packages and then flash the rom. Also always keep a TiBu backup off your phone.

Hey guys..
I just today rooted my lovely Nexus S, 9023 or what its called (non branded or nothing)
But i cant load recovery.. went fine when i rooted it, but now that i want to load an custom rom it fails.. i followed this guide to root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883032
Anyone have some ideas??

Just tested with ROM Mananger, it can backup just fine.. as soon i choose a ROM to install it loads recovery and fails, just like when you do it manually.

Sounds like stock recovery installed itself. If you are rooted remove/rename /etc/install-recovery.sh then reflash cwm manually or through rom manager.

I have had this happen on my NS4G. I know they are a little different, but it seems like you are having the same thing happen that I did and to solve it, I open Windows command prompt(or terminal depending on you OS) and fastboot flash recovery (insert recovery.img name here) and reflashed the recovery partition with clockwork. Very easy fix. Just make sure you boot straight into recovery after flashing and flash the Rom you want to flash before booting back into stock(also make a nandroid before that). After that you shouldn't have any more problems unless you unroot. There must be a small glitch somewhere when flashing the clockwork doesn't fully erase stock recovery partition.

[Q] New CWM allows backup and restore??

Hey guys,
I think the new CWM allows backup and restore? I used it to backup my current rom, but can anyone verify whether there are still issues when attempting to restore backups? Last thing I need is to brick my charge.
Thanks guys!

I could not get restore to work but it didn't brick my phone either. From what I've heard some people have had it work tho.
Is this the CWM from the Android Market? And, if so - Am I supposed to let CWM rewrite the Recovery Mode like I did on my Moto Droid?
Sooo hoping backup and restore is working, I know he didn't test it completely but that certainly doesn't mean it wont work :] Post in this thread if it worked for you!
I just installed cwm and did a backup before rooted. And was having issues tethering and wanted.to revert back. I went into cwm and attempted a restore. And it failed saying could not unmount /system. Then it froze. Next time i booted to cwm it booted in a basic mode with only options to reboot or apply update.zip
This is my first experience modding a Samsung phone i just upgraded from my droid 1. phone is working and plan to do more this weekend when i have more time to explore.

Bummer!
Is there any other method out there that can do a full backup / restore for a rooted Charge yet?
Try OdinMaker by P3Droid. It is 2 bucks on the market. I believe it works fine.
I cant get OdinMaker to reliably finish.
I saw somewhere on here that CWR backup works but to restore you have to reflash (Odin) your rom, kernal and recovery. Then in CWR you do an advanced restore and do /data only. I have not confirmed this works.

Try 0817_charge_recovery.tar.md5
The imnuts cwm 0817_charge_recovery.tar.md5 works very well. IT is is stable the only issue is lagfix ext4 does not work. However this may not be a cwm issue but rather a kernel issue. Dan

Help with new rom

So I rooted, unlocked, backed up and all. I just want to get a new rom and I downloaded rom toolbox. Can I just hit let's say cyanogenmod and will it just download on my phone? Are there any other precautions I should worry about?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
I have to ask first, how did you unlock your bootloader? If you used EZ Unlock, which version did you use to unlock? Depending on how you answer determines what step you take next.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I used version 1.1
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Aight cool, as long as you backed up your IMEI using this method then you're free to flash whichever rom you want. Do you have a custom recovery installed, such as ClockWorkMod? If not, download EZ Recovery from the Play Store and select flash recovery for CWM 6.x. Once down reboot into recovery and perform a Nandroid backup.
If you have down all the above already, disregard it. I haven't used Rom Toolbox so I will give you my download process as if I'm dowloading the rom from xda.
For Cyanogenmod
1) Download CM10 as well as the respective GApps (google apps)
2) Boot into recovery:
-format data
-wipe cache
-Go into Advanced/Format Dalvik Cache
3) Now flash the rom, just select "Choose Zip from Sd Card), install the CM10 rom zip.
4) Install the GApps zip
5) boot into the rom and you should be good to go
I don't understand the point of backing up the imei.. Do I HAVE to do it??
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
If you don't...there's a chance you might lose it and the you won't have your mobile data on your phone. Plus its more of a pain in the ass to restore it than back it up. Do yourself a favor and back it up..it isn't that difficult and can save you a ton of time in the long run..and possibly future posts on how to recover it.

You don't have to, but some people have lost IMEI (hasn't happened to me personally) and if you don't have a backup you can end up in permanent roaming mode as I understand it.
The backup is easy to do (I did A and B, didn't bother with C) and buys you some peace of mind.

Yes, you absolutely have to back-up your IMEI before you flash ANYTHING. The reason the IMEI is important is basically because it ties your phone to the carrier's network. If your IMEI is lost, you will essentially have a brick in your possession (no calls, no data, nothing). Right now, if you look under Settings/About Device and scroll down to IMEI, you will see a set of numbers. If this is "lost" it will read either 0 or some other set of numbers and you won't like the restore process to recover and reconnect your phone to Verizon's network. The Comprehensive IMEI/EFS Backup steps take a minute to do in comparison to the headache and lengthy process it will take to restore your phone to working order.
I think you should do some reading there before you flash and understand why it's important. It's explained fairly well and clearly even for novices.
Also, here's a link to DroidStyle's Guide to everything important on the GSIII.

[Dump/Backup] 4.3 Google Edition for both TWRP/CWM + Radio + Firmware

Disclaimer: I am not responsible if you flash this and it bricks your devices, flames start shooting from it, it blows up or implodes, burns your house down, or kills the neighbor's dog. Flash at own risk!
This is a stock non rooted nandroid for Android 4.3 from the Google Edition. I will not be supplying a flashable zip as I don't have the time so either wait for someone to release a flashable zip. I'm posting this so other devs can start working on their custom stuff
TWRP Back up (system & boot): https://mega.co.nz/#!aAIgULQK!IJxicTh5qWC8csn3uwY2GmjgAelXttxn5cJNrd2sFpg
(this needs to be unzipped into the same folder on your sd card where your backups are)
CWRM Image Back up (system & boot): https://mega.co.nz/#!KAQDHRBD!VkaAAGPQa1VyLEG2k6qH8Hn1E9N7dN8FGlQ9i-HbpxE
(this can be flashed in CWM it will not flash in TWRP)
Radio (Flashable Zip): https://mega.co.nz/#!HdwxkQqC!TgSeIFmErtLL8iJkpzdR5ThAPn8S0U5BmoEZKrJ_87w
Firmware: This contains radio, Recovery, Hboot and all the other firmware for 4.3 This is not flashable and must be flashed in fastboot RUU mode https://mega.co.nz/#!6M5nCRLD!fAUWUAXWv1Sl-7HAcycrR3oxBQ0_5co3s2N5OCUt-n8
It doesn't matter what CID you're on, If you are running sense, CM, or any other rom. If you are running any other rom besides the Google Edition 4.2.2 rom you will have to perform a factory reset (aka wipe data).
There is going to be nothing maintained in this thread. it's simply for development purposes
4.3 full conversion RUUs now available in both pre rooted and stock non-rooted versions.

You don't need to be rooted really. Just flash TWRP and do a back up (just your boot image so it's a quick back up) just so it creates the backup directory structure on your sd card. Boot into android and just put the folder that you unzip from the file in the OP in the same folder /sdcard/0/twrp/backup/HT?????/ folder (you'll see a similar time stamped one that you just made) plop the unzipped folder into there and then reboot back into twrp and restore.
Or you can just flash CWM and then flash that zip like any other zip
Does anyone have the radio.img from the 4.3 dump? Would love to give that a whirl over here in the states, see if anything improves.
