[Q] Coby Kyros update hack - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I understand most people are using mod-ed versions of this but i decided not to do so.
This isn't so much a hack as an addition...i stole some apk's gmail and system provider from my t-mobile G1 edited some of the audio stuff redid the oggs for interesting sounds for the alarm clock...edited the apn file added the tmobile to the list reset the otacerts.... its late though but its installing we'll see what happens in the morning
contact me if anyone is interested in this update version
I think i wanna take this farther see what else i can edit other functions maybe strip some apps out...make the appslib update standard...idk either way can anybody tell me how i would go about developing the boot.img etc you know maybe fix the clocking problems etc?
(my goal in this is to figure out how to edit the OS without getting rid of alot of the factory setting that are important if that made sense)

Update
So i need some kind of way to get the install to pass verification could anyone help?

Need ADB? Im using windows?

edit: Sorry, i forgot to hit the "yes this is a question" box
So, im trying to root my new Thunderbolt so i can make it verMYzon.
Anyways, cheesy things aside, while using the thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996616 it says "Note, ADB required."
What really does that mean and where can i get it for my Windows 7 / Thunderbolt combo?
The only root method i know is the ancient forms of one click with original cm and a G1
Try download android sdk ;-)

Thanks! You helped out a bit!
Now im setting up everything and following the guides...but, All i really want root for is to get rid of the MASSIVE amount of bloat and make backups.
And of course later, get rid or change this unpersonalizable "personalize" button...

root is another story what device do you own? adb can indeed remove bloatware but your device need to be rooted to work

Im using the Thunderbolt. I got it rooted last night, but due to a defective unit or something, my phone wouldn't accept my transferred number from Tmobile to Verizon. I now have a new phone and will not be rerooting. Maybe i did something wrong? kept saying "phone could not be authenticated at this time..." when i tried calling someone.
But also, all md5 sums were correct. I just wanna get rid of these stupid games i wont use, and maybe a cool looking rom. but my top priority is CHANGE THIS STUPID PERSONALIZE BUTTON to something useful...Like quick access to camera.
Actually...if someone could help me just change it to a quick access to camera INSTEAD of "personalize" using the stock rom, that would be great...

You might want to brew yourself a cup of coffee -- or an ocean for that matter. You see, the Thunderbolt comes with a signature check to make sure that you are running HTC's key. So custom ROMs might take awhile
I could be, of course, saying this like an idiot; I haven't read my feeds in the past week and I'm too exhausted to check. It's a possibility that this has changed. I will delete my post if someone proves me right.
You know, i liked your response. I understand what youre getting at, but i mean, if there is a mod i can attach to the STOCK rom just to repurpose the personalize button, i'd love to try testing it.
Plus...I might have a lead on the sig check key...if anyone looks closely...its surprisingly similar to one we've seen before of a terribad phone...but due to an issue, i need to reinstall a "better" SDK or something to help test since my new laptop don't like linux

Market Apps Incompatible??

I never came across this issue with my G2, but during google's 10 cent sale I bought a few games (asphalt 6 was the main one I wanted) and when I first got my sensation it came preloaded with N.O.V.A 2
Since rooting my phone neither one of those is now available, they don't show up in the market and when I tried to push the apk file it still doesn't work. When I check the market on my desktop it says my phone is incompatible. I have tried multiple roms, thinking it may have been a sense 3.5 issue, but it happens on 3.0 roms as well.
Have any of you run into this issue? Why does this happen, and how can I fix it?

I can't comment on before or after rooting my phone because I did it straight away, but I can't 'see' either of those games in the Market. I also can't buy Shadowgun. Apart from those people running pirated copies, there are clearly also people who can buy and download these games. I just don't get it. At first I thought people must be using Chainfire's Tegra app, but I don't think it's just that. I guess it should be possible to change something on the build.prop but I can't work out exactly what the key difference is.
After I posted I found this:
http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-in...-from-android-market-for-unsupported-devices/
I haven't tried it yet but I'll post back when I do. Nova 2 worked just fine on my phone before I rooted it, and I bought asphalt6 with my phone (again, before I rooted and installed new roms) I'm assuming not everybody has these problems, so I'd love to know why some of us have issues and others don't?
Thanks for the link. I'm debating whether or not to flash a stock ROM first to see what happens.
Also, the other factor that clouds the issue is that developers can remove devices from their compatibility list in the Market as and when they choose. For example, looking on their forum, this appears to be the case with the Sensation and Madfinger's Shadowgun.
So from what I'm learning I need the original buildprop from the stock sensation in order to make this work. I tried the directions from the link I posted and clearly changed something because I got an email welcoming me to the nexus s, but my market still tells me asphalt 6 is not available for my sensation.
Here's to add to the link posted.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20048765&postcount=5
Thanks, I'll try those edits and see what happens.
Purely for info. Flashing back to a stock ROM (1.50.401.1) didn't work for me, though I was still S-off, just in case that matters in some way that I don't realise.
Tried altering my build.prop as per the OP's link but it didn't work for me. Haven't tried kpjimmy's link yet.
I'd still like to find out for sure if anyone can buy these games without an altered build.prop, and if so, why? (excluding anyone who's using chainfire's app...)
So after spending an hour trying things out my phone's nearly dead and I'm at work so I won't be able to recharge it until I get in the car, but as I type it's downloading asphalt 6. It also thinks it's a Nexus S as it asked me if I wanted to update to IceCream sandwich. A little scary as I'm assuming that would brick my phone. Anyhow, here's what I've done so far:
Clear Market Cache & Data. Settings > Applications > All > Market > Clear data.
Launch ES File Explorer. Enable both Root Explorer and Mount File System under Settings > Root Settings.
Navigate to /system. Here you will find the build.prop file. Take a backup of it by copy-pasting it to your SD card.
Open & edit /system/build.prop
Change the following lines to make your phone identify as a GSM Nexus S:
ro.product.model=Nexus S
ro.product.brand=Google
ro.product.name=sodu
ro.product.device=crespo
ro.product.manufacturer=samsung
ro.build.fingerprint=google/soju/crespo:2.3.4/GRJ22/121341:user/release-keys
ro.build.description=soju-user 2.3.4 GRJ22 121341 release-keys
Save file and remember to change the chmod type button back to read only in the system folder
Reboot the phone
My build prop had 2 entries for build description and I edited both of them. I'm going to try to get NOVA 2 as well, I'll post back after I try playing both of them. I just don't understand why it was so flipping difficult to get these?
And why don't all rooted/rom'ed sensations have this issue?
My last 2 questions I might find on my own, but maybe somebody has an answer so I don't have to experiment. If I wipe/reset and reinstall my current rom, will that rebuild the build.prop file back to original?
AND....if I do get both these games working and use Titanium to back them up, will I be able to reinstall them without re-editing the buildprop file again?
More to come, stay tuned...

Shadow Gun was available to us on the market until very recently.
Madfingers found out that there were driver issues that they couldn't fix... or something like that, so they pull it for the Senny for now.
there is a sticky on their forum regarding it.
far as Asphalt 6, log onto Gameloft's site via your phone(user agent set to Android) and you can purchase it directly from the site.
That still doesn't answer the question of why isn't the Market working correctly?
I'm assuming u have a US sensation? My thinking is if you flashed a Rom that is based on the euro sensation then maybe the market identifies the phone as a euro sensation and blocks certain apps that aren't available in Europe....maybe?

I started with a US updated to the latest release. I rooted it and tried in this order (or close to it):
Android Rev. 4.1
Energy
Elegancia
TMXSS (maff1989's rom)
I had forgotten about asphalt and nova until I was on Elegancia, but on the TMX rom, which is a stock us version basically, it didn't work. I really don't understand the inner workings of android, I'm not even close to a developer level, so if this might be a stupid question...does the buildprop file change with each rom? Basically if I reflash the rom I'm using now it'll rebuild the buildprop?
Yes, build prop changes with each ROM
Ouzo,
this doesn't answer the original question, but it's looking like going directly to Gameloft's website worked for me, at least with Nova 2. The problem though is even though I paid for it once through market the Gameloft site doesn't recognize that, so if I want either game I am going to need to either pay twice or request a refund from google.
Good news that you can download NOVA via Gameloft's website, though to be honest I'm not going to do that because I don't want to create a second account to access their games. I didn't like the idea of giving them my mobile number - knowing my luck I'd end up getting a load of marketing calls from all over ; )
I'm also just feeling stubborn about this. There must be people on here who know. Hopefully they'll read this thread and enlighten us. I'm going to carry on experimenting with other ROMs and see if any unlock the reason why.... Wonder if Sensation XE owners/ROM users can see NOVA etc in the market?

[Q] Where to start with rooting an Archos 35 "Smart Home Phone"

Hey everyone:
I am not really sure where to start, but ill give it a shot:
My wife wants a home phone, and I don't really feel it's necessary, but I kept seeing the Archos 35 Smart home phone, I couldn't find it anywhere, went to eBay.co.uk and found a place selling them, called them, got it shipped to me.
After figuring out some minor power adaptor related issues, I now have a working Archos android home phone.
Basically it has Android 2.2 and I would like to root it, cook/install a custom ROM and get the Android Market on it, but I have no idea where to start.
I have rooted several different phones and installed all kinds of custom ROMs, (including some of the hardest phones to unlock/root, like Moto Atrix, Telus HTC Desire HD, etc.) So ability is not an issue. I have just never been the first to have a phone, or a need to figure out how to root/cook my own ROM.
Where do I start? I want to make this baby all it can be!
I also know this phone is coming to North America in the next few months, so this development could potentially help some NA users in the future.
I am able to install from unknown sources, so that may help with known root methods...
Please, if you are in the know, let me know what I need to do. Keep in mind that this would be the first time I would be doing it, so step-by-step instructions, or a link to a place that can give me step-by-step directions would be nice.
Thanks!
Any ideas? I want to be able to integrate my gmail account... you cant even do that out of box...

I would like to know more about that phone model.
I hope somebody helps you.
Can you block phone numbers to avoid scam calls or telemarketing with it?
Superoneclick. Z4root. Gingerbreak. There are others you may get lucky.

Go to AppsLib and install ArcTools - that will get you started and let you install Market, GMail etc. Had my Smart Home Phone about a week now and trying to iron out some bugs.
Caller ID has stopped displaying so I did a reset and now I have lost all the default Archos apps including AppsLib!
Will have to get the latest Firmware online and reinstall

[Q] Time Issues, apps/games info and root/superuser/rom/flashing info

I just got my HTC Sensation back after it was in for repairs and i learned a few things which makes me ask the last 2 questions as well as gave me a new problem hence the first so lets start.
Time issues first:
I send this phone in never having done anything to it but used as is and when i send it in was it at newest update from HTC.
When i got it back now however is it loosing time fast. Sometimes it is worse than others. But i can't figure out whats doing it.
What i find even more strange is before i send it for rep did the Auto time update work fine now that even also failed so I had to get ClockSync to help me keep updated.
I am just wondering what could cause this?
Apps/Games info:
Well after i got my phone back was i sad to see that all my apps and games where well reset no settings remembered and progress in games was whiped.
But when i read about many of the backup features out there it seems they can also backup the app/game it self but that would mean they won't be able to update via the Store anymore is this true? Plus what would be best to use to avoid this next time I have to send it to repair?
The next part of this is the Permisions some games want on a phone or app's is there anyway to download a game or app and keep it unable to get access to things i do not find a game/program of this art needs, and in case it can live without then use it knowing your stuff is safe from its prying eyes and needs?
Now time for the last one.
root/superuser/rom/flashing info:
I read many places that rooting a phone is not enough you also need to make it super user access plus s-off is this true and could someone explaine the superuser and S-off part for me?
Also as i have planned to flash my phone what is the best way to make sure all my apps/games progress and settings are saved and if possible reinstalled when done flashing but still with it to be able to be updated via google play store which i read somewhere it is not?
And is there anything i should be aware off beside finding a good ROM to try out, root the phone, s-off and superuser access as well?
You can backup your apps and games with any backup app. You can get from the playstore. S off is security off it gives you a ability to flash roms easier
Than flashing with s on. S off is best in my opnion. You need to know your hboot version in order to know which guide to use. To find hboot I believe you pull battery put back in press volume down and power at the same time then read screen. Once you know your hboot follow guide for your version. Hope this helps you!

[Q] Editing OTA Activation

Aloha all,
I'm out in Hawaii, where there's a small carrier called Mobi PCS that operates just within the islands. Mobi accepts any esn on its network, but for data to work an off carrier phone must be manually flashed with the proper settings.
I'm trying to make a rom that OTA activates properly without having to be flashed. I have a few phones I've been trying this on. The problem is that the roms seem to want to write the parameters for their original carriers, even with the Mobi PRL flashed to the phone. For example, @mobipcs.com usernames for PPP or PAP get overwritten with @vzw.com, or @uscc.com. I'm not the most experienced developer, and I'm hoping someone here might be able to give me some insight into where I can modify this process.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Mahalo!
I would also like to know this info havnt been able to figure out myself, however have seen some ads on craigslist here in my area claiming to be able to do this. Im not into paying for that kinda thing tho so subscribing in hopes someone who knows will reply...ive tried apn apps to no avail...

Ads for flashing phones or ads for modifying firmware? I flash phones if you need help with anything like mms.
I guess I'm more looking to automate the flashing process. I would like *228 to automatically flash the correct data settings, or I would like a script to run after it and finish the job.
