for some reason my phone wont send long txt messages but will send short ones..i have a signal. im using handcent sms on the htc evo. whenever i try to send a long txt message my phone just sits there and then says message not sent. it just fails to send all long messages. what can i do about this? is this common?
It's happening because you are on a CDMA network (sprint) which limit your sms messages to 160 characters. Handcent is not initially set up to split any message over 160... You have to go into the settings and select that option.

Hey everyone,
I currently have an AT&T Captivate on the Telus network. I had to manually put in the APN setting and stuff. I have a problem with the SMS portion of the phone. If I send an SMS using the messaging app or handscent sms it shows the sms as sending even though it has been sent. And when I restart the phone it sends all of the text messages again. It is very annoying as sometimes it will resend about 30 texts to the same person. What is wrong with the phone?
I have the same problem sometimes with handscent. Usually it's only 1 or 2 tho

Go under 'Settings', 'Send Message Settings', and check the box for 'Prevent Resend'. This stops that problem with Handcent SMS.

just tried, it would still send the message again after i restart the phone. any other ideas?
i have to delete the whole sms thread to make this not happen. Which is kind of annoying. So I am hoping someone has the same issue as me and has fixed it lol
Everyone once in a while, I'll be unable to send messages out and I'll notice that I'm not receiving any. Is this related to the issue where people are not receiving phone calls on the Mes I've heard about? Once I reboot, it seems to work again but then the cycle repeats.
I'm on the Heinz's latest build
Did you check your contacts numbers? If there is a + sign in front, it can cause issues

Also do you have MMS? If you're SMS app is set to convert long SMS to MMS and you don't have MMS, you'll run into problems.
nope. no + in my phone numbers and no, the messages arent long. I do have unlimited MMS to so it shouldnt matter anyways.
Have you tried a different SMS app such as GO SMS or Handcent?
Hey guys,
I'm wondering if it's possible to send multiple texts/group texts on 7.5 MANGO.
It's for the Samsung Focus.
I did some thread searching and they were all old (WP7). Every time I try the group text/multiple text, it responds with "Can't send"
I was just wondering if anyone has found a fix for this, aside from using the Bulk SMS app.
Thanks!
The count is limited to 10. How many did you add ?
the same, i can not send sms to 2 people on hd 7
In the Messaging settings, turn off 'Group text' and then try.
It worked for me.
With Group text ON, it considers the text messages as MMS, and fails to send.
Here is a silly question but if you send 10 SMS or MMS messages, do you get charged for 10 by your provider of do they all count as one?
Each msg is sent seperately so charges are for each sms

I'm really tired of long incoming and outgoing messages being split up into multiple messages. The only way for me to prevent this is to "attach" a photo or blank subject line to each outgoing message. This unlocks the character limit, turns the message into MMS and allows it to be sent unbroken.
Some phones do this by default, others do not. I've heard its a combination of the way your carrier handles the data and the way your phone handles messages. Of course your carrier will never admit that its a handy 'tweak' that allows them to charge you for each broken up message rather than one long one.
I'm running a old gb version of MIUI but recently switched to JBMIUI (switched back because I love the stability of the gb version)
To be more specific.
There appears to be a hard limit of 160 characters. Is there a way to everride this somehow? Software mod or app tweak? Go SMS pro still breaks up the messages.
There is noway.

Are you on 2G or 3G? Back in my Desire says on 2G it used to split my texts up.

Hi
Greeting,
According to my knowledge as we go typing the character limit increases from 160 to next(whatever it might be) and the single message gets converted into 2 message n so on but when you send those message they go packed together and the receiver get all the messages packed in one message(you will be charged for every message) . As the text increases the phone converts it into mms if your message size is about 1 kb ( I might b wrong about mms size never used it) ,
So basically you keep typing and the msg will get converted into mms. No need of subject (look my Attachment their is no subject but still its a.mms)
2. Even if you send multiple message packed in one msg it also depends on the receivers phone how to accept it if his multiple msg text limit is for eg. 1000 characters it will convert the renaming message into message no.2.
Its confusing if you havent understood I can make it simple

On CM 9+ there is no issue with long SMS. They appear as one long text. Converting them to mms in NZ would cost a fortune as SMS are essentially free but MMS cost.
Has anyone had people report to them that text messages send twice sometimes it's not all the time for me but my brother and my partner both reported it to me.
I have tried to unregister and manually register network in network settings. I am on O2 UK. I have tried my sim in a spare phone and haven't had it send a double text yet on that.
Sends double texts on Stock RoM and Leedroid.
Running out of ideas.

I know with mine it happens when using the chat feature in messages, it'll deliver a "rich text message" first, think it wasn't delivered and deliver the same message via "text message". When the chat feature is turned off it doesn't do that. Hope this helps
