Beta swype - Samsung Mesmerize

I had beta swype on my old hero phone and since switching to mesmerize I do not need it because is pre installed, but new beta version just came out so which would be better and how would I remove the original on mesmerize if I were to switch? Thank you

You'd have to be rooted and completely remove stock swype from your phone before trying to install beta. It seemed like more work than it was worth to me.

I had it installed earlier on my mez. You have to delete the swype.apk file from /system/app folder using root explorer or another file manager. next delete the file lib.SwypeCore.so from /system/lib folder. I could only get it to work when using the pick-n-pack rom too. you need to delete these files before you try to install the beta swype. I had some issues with it tho so I didn't reinstall it. My biggest issue was that when I would go to type a message it would always be in all caps mode. Hope that helps.

Installing new Android Market

I searched but couldn't find a thread. So can someone tell me how to install the new Android Market on my unrooted Evo?

I am on MIUI, and to my knowledge they didn't have the latest version in their recent release. Last night I believe mine updated automatically. I could be wrong, but I personally didn't manually update anything. I woke up this morning and it was updated to the most recent version. You may turn on your autosync and everything to see if it does it automatically.
If you have the apk. Uninstall any market updates from settings and use adb to push the new apk to /system/app/Vending.apk. this will overwrite your original vending apk so you might want to back it up first.

Just download and install like a normal app, its just a upgrade and you can downgrade if needed.

It should work on non rooted phones too

Do you have the cool edit cursor with your themed swype? I tried to push it and it kept the blue one and didn't replace with the white square one.

I tried it, and completely lost swipe.
Not a biggie though, as I use audiophile's custom keyboard.

Before you flash it through cwm you have to uninstall the old one (and the installer) and wipe the cache...
I'm case you use it later

I downloaded the flashable swype, pulled the apks, placed in sdk tools folder and just pushed them. Removed the olds one first, everything works great, like the look of it better as well

Android Makret wont update to Google Play

Im currently on Richie390's MIUI 2.3.24 rom and having a little problem and anyone using that build or knows anything help would be useful. Last weeks build my market updated to the google play store and was working fine and everything, i then updated my rom to the more current rom which is the 2.3.24 and now my google play store has reverted back to android market. i tried downloading the apk and installing manually but it keeps saying install unsucessful. i also tried the clear data and open market and it should update on its own but none of them work. Any help?
Why does it matter? Significant changes are the icon change and name.

Just something that bothers me a little and I liked the interface of how they setup the "My Apps" screen.

I've never used an MIUI rom but I'm assuming you still flash gApps zip like the other roms, you could unzip the gApps you're using, copy the updated vending apk into the app folder and rezip the files and flash it

make a backup in CWM.
then boot your rom, and use something to remove the market, or just delete the .apk
try re-installing it then
if you still cant get it working, you could always try pushing it to the phone via ADB from your computer... but that seems like it would be a bit too much work for just a few non necessary changes.
Appreciate all the help, ill give some of the advice a try and see if maybe one of em works LOL

Only other way rom will auto update market to 3.5.1.5 is if your on a ics rom. Your not missing much if your not on latest market tho.. Its a mess

I'm on a stock based ROM and I have the newest market.
It isn't only for ICS.
Tried everything to no avail, I'm using Richie's miui rom, could just be the rom itself =/

Its nothing you worry about, seriously.

BTW, whoever said there weren't any differences between Market versions hasn't played around with it much. The latest version of Google Market, hmm, Play, is a mess, especially when comes the time to figure out how to display purchased apps separately from all the other crap I may have had the misfortune of trying in the past. There is also no way I can find to filter the previously-installed app list: a simple alphabetical sort option would greatly help.

You flashed a gapps package? You can't really install market from the apk. You can force it through root explorer but just flashing gapps again should solve it. Make sure it's a gapps package with play already packaged. Otherwise give it a day, it should update itself
