Registry is Windows only. On Unix systems apps config is usually stored in configuration files in home directory. And Android is totally different story.

That means that is dificult or not posible? I just want to change the google earth cache max size. It has 200MB by default. Is posible to change that or is something that requires be changed by Google?
Thanks a lot for your reply.

That means it may be stored anywhere. In Android's preferences system, some custom file in /data/data or even hardcoded in Google Earth's app. It doesn't matter where it's written in desktop, windows application.

Well, I have GE installed in the N1 and in the Galaxy Tab, this one has internal memory, even if I not use a sd card I can see the "sd card" in the file explorer, something like if where a virtual disk.
Must I have my devices rooted to have a look if find something on the preferences system or data/data? Hope any guy with knowledge here find this issue interesting enough to have a look, maybe its a simple thing to change but I have no idea how to look for.

You can try to unpack the apk file for the google earth app and check if any of the files there has any mention of the size limit.
I think it is better than to go hunting for the configuration files spread all over your phone.

Have unpacked the apk, open with notepad, there are characters unreadeable and some text. On the text have found references to the "clear cache" , that refer to that option on the app, but no specific. Only this:
buttonView c cacheDir cal
callbackProxy canWrite cancel cause cb cel
What I think doesn´t mean anything. I guess..., maybe 200mb is the default cache that Android allows for any app considering that the the most often devices a mobiles phones with limited space and or performance?

You see all those funny characters because the app is compiled.
You should try decompiling it. I would post a link for you , but I'm new and can't post links , so just search on google the word : smali.
Hope this helps

Sorry , You should search apktool not smali

Possible to change the pictograms of programs in folder programs

Hey,
I am using a software, called Skyscape for my study. This program has a lot of books with the same icon/pictogram.
I would love to change the Icon/pictogram by an image on my storage card.
Is this possible?
None ????????????
Still none ?
Never used Skyscape myself but yes it's possible to assign different icons using Ultimate Launch. There's a cab floating around XDA somewhere if you search for it...
I am assuming you will have different .lnk paths leading to different books, create a new tab in UL, and assign a custom made icon for each book...
Hope this helps...

you can always do it manually
choose an icon and rename it to "*wanted file*.ink" and place it in the same folder, you will probably have to overwrite the old icon.....
and please don't bump
Ahhh at least two wise suggestions... guys thanks !
I have tried to use Ultimate Launch ... but it din't work. I think I have to change them manually with the .ink's faruk has been suggested.
Thank you again !

Silly little question about opening and saving files in the 16 gb flash drive

Hi all,
Just a little question that might be very easy for some of you.
I bought a new Advantage X7510 a few days ago (price lowered to some 450 euros... that surely helped to make up my mind !). I am very happy with it, but I found some strange quirks.
Most obvious is: I put all my documents in some folders in the flash disk. I am able to reach them from the Explorer, and from there I can open them (let's say in Word or Excel). But when I try to save them, Word or Excel does not see any folder in the flash drive, so it is impossible to move them to another location, or to open any other file sitting in the flash drive, from inside those apps.
Has anyone faced this problem and, maybe found a solution or a workaround?
My X7510 has WM 6.1 in spanish, original ROM, CE 5.2.19217.
Thanks a lot
Now, I am answering to myself, because I was in the clouds last night when I wrote this.
I had forgotten something crucial concerning flash drives and cards, that is that only first level folders are recognized by the apps. So a file in a folder like Flash Disk\My Documents\Any subfolder\... will be found by the Explorer but not by Word or any other app.
Just another Windows Mobile curiosity...
So, moderator, please close this thread and send it to the bottom !
Actually it's not a silly question at all! A lot of people get caught out by this inability to see more than one subfolder level.
I think some of the file dialog changer programs can rectify the issue but I'm not sure.

Actually, I think it is a bug in Office Mobile (that Office Mibile applications can only see files in level-1 folders) and I am surprised it has not been fixed. Other applications see deeper level folders in flash drives and cards.

It is not a bug of Office Mobile.
Simply: the system utility to browse the "disks" for any files, which is provided by system (Windows Mobile) to apps works in this way. If any app uses this system utility, you have that problem. Many apps, not only Office, uses that utility, and all of them have this problem, But there are some apps (like Resco apps, in eg.) have their own utility to browse file storage, and those apps usualy have this solved much better.
That means, this issue is a bug of Windows Mobile, not of any particular app.

Android file management idea

I have noticed that android apps are horrible with file management. When you install an app on the phone it installs a whole new file hierarchy.
Example... when you install Meme Generator it creates a memegenerator folder within that folder it caches Favorites, Instances, Generators, and shares
when you delete the app it doesn't remove this folder or any of its contents
My idea is an app that would scan folders and mark if the folder is useless or not. Especially the unknown data folders that say something like com.fatsecret.android and have nothing but random .dat files or a .nomedia folder/file. Almost like a registry checker for a PC.
Another idea is to have an app that scans the SD card and locates all media. It would tell you how many of what type of file you have on your phone, and allow you to mass move to selected folders (Not copy or transfer but actually move th file to its new location)
im no programer but these would be great apps if they were to be developed
It would be really great man, unfortunately, I'm not able to develop things like this, but let me know about if it's ready.

There are quite a few but 'Astro' seems to be the most popular. Give it a try!
I use Astro and i'm quite happy with it.
The question would be how to determine useless folders.

My initial idea was to use a system similar to a windows registry. Once the app starts for the first time it will create a database that stores folder data, which then it tries to match to an app that installed it. If the folder shows that the app that created it has been deleted it shows a red folder or has a negative mark next to it, if its still installed it shows a positive or green folder. This way you can get rid of the bad folders.
My second idea was to have an app create a drop folder for certain file types. For instance a folder like MY DOCUMENTS that has the folders MUSIC, PICTURES, AND VIDEOS. When the app starts it has you select a folder to drop a specific file type (example .MP3 files into MY DOCUMENTS/MUSIC). The all then media scans the phone and locate all matching file types and MOVES the file not COPYS.

Something kinda similar to what you want was introduced in FroYo. It gives each app a directory (on the SD card I don't know about onboard memory) that is automatically deleted by the system when the app is installed. Currently it has a few fairly big bugs but hopefully they will get fixed and developers will start to use it.

That sounds liie it will be excellent once its implemented. I'm sure as most new things take time to catch on this will probably take a little while for it to happen. Maybe Google is going to make it mandatory for devs to do this.
Smells like WINNING from my T-959 xda premium app
It wouldn't necessarily have to be an app but some process that would make create or add to (create a sub-directory) default folders. I'm not saying it has to be a window like system but as simple as it gets Music, Images, Documents, Downloads maybe a spare folder for necessary background files (Hidden) But accessible when needed. The biggest problem here is that I don't think too many people that want this solution are programmers. because if you know how to program then you spend all day sorting throu this stuff anyway.
Well i'm on 2.2.1 and the system still keeps the settings folders in /dbdata/databases/*packagename* after you uninstalled it.
I usually resort to deleting the folders in adb shell when programming and testing apps.
So it seems there is need for this and there is no such tool yet?
I might start on it then, do you think there is enough intrest in something like that?
Help me with the most difficult and important step, invent a name for such an app !
Sounds like a useful tool. Great idea.
I'm constantly searching through my sd card and trying to figure out what can be deleted.

When we speak about media files:
an empty < no media > file, in a folder,
ussualy solves the problem of visibility, for other-media focused-on board apps,
I presume is not what you have in mind,
The ussual way-the apps are protecting their data-in windows for example,
is to create their own file format, like: .cpt, .dat, etc...
Files on an external sdcard are recognised by the strings to them,
and thus known to the index...
but when you remove those strings,
you ussualy destroy also the files structure
although he files themselves still do exist...
In my humble opinion, only the separate, encrypted partition on an sdcard,
along with internal file format, may provide
efficient level of security that you seek for your app...
There surely always will be an app, able to see hidden contents,
especially on removable media,
but to be able to see it- is one thing,
and the ability to read its contents- is a completely different story...

1.there is always a possibility that something hidden locally- on board of your device-
could be found through a computer connection,
so if you wanted app sensitive data to be secure, this aspect should also be taken into consideration...
2. windows is just an example:
some dependancies are similar throughout many other systems- just because they work as expected...
An internal file format and file encription is to be found in some of the android apps as well

help with locker app files

Ok, so my buddy had an app downloaded from the google play store. back when the S4 Mini was newish. He had some kind of photo/file locker app which all i can tell you is it made a folder on the internal storage simply called "Locker" and all the encrypted files that were locked with that app were in there but of course un-readable because that are apparently actually encrypted to some extent. the phone went overboard in the salt water, couldnt be repaired but i managed to get it running enough to pull the "locker" folder with all the locked data off the storage. He doesnt remember the name of the app used and no longer has the google account to look at his download history to find it. but the icon was blue-ish and it created a folder called "locker" on the storage. he entered his passcode on a dialpad looking menu and boom, his locked files showed up. but thats all i know about it. hes trying to get that data readable again, and changing the extension to jpeg or jpg or png didnt work. just wondering if anyone here may have some sugguestions of apps to try to get these files readable again, if i could find the exact program used my plan was to install it on his new phone. set a password and lock a random picture so this way the program would created all the directories or whatever it needed, and i can copy the recovered files from the old phone and copy them into the new phone in the appropriate directory, and hopefully unlock those files. sorry if im jumping around alot. so im trying to find a way to make these files readable again is the end goal. ive tried for days to get them unlocked. and if anyone can help me they are on these forums. Any help ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I uploaded one of the smaller files which should be the image and one of the larger ones which should be the video. both just say there are no previews available when i try and open either of them.
If the files were encrypted then no matter which app you use, you won't be able to open them. You need to decrypt them first. To decrypt them you need the password they were encrypted with and the encrypting/decrypting algorithm (provided by the locker app). I would try to find the app (and copy the files to its folder), or try to decrypt it using various decrypting algorithms, provided the app uses a standard well-known one.
