[Q] Getting my tablet today - G Tablet General

I first want to say...Awesome site....and the developers here are very gracious for what they give...I am expecting my tablet to arrive any minute and is wondering what would be my best route at this point for a rom being that it will be new and have no data should i just go ahead and go for the tntl 5.0 or maybe a older version thanks for any responses..

[Q] Brand new G Tab

I am about to receive a brand new G Tab that I ordered off Amazon. I have a few questions and I have seen contradicting answers so I figured I might as well make a post.
I plan on installing a ROM on day one, probably TNT Lite 4.20. Is it recommended that i connect to wi-fi and run any updates first, or should I just jump right in and flash away? I don't know enough about ROMs to know if it will flash over anything that ViewSonic updates or if it supplements them, so any responses would be helpful.
Thanks
Return it before opening and buy it on woot.com. Normally I'd feel more bad about saying this but Amazon owns woot now.
fidju,
I've been telling people to let the stock update and get used to the tablet and read and learn how to do what here before making any changes.
Lots of people having problems trying to do too much too fast.
Check it out in the forums.

Within a few minutes of getting it online you'll get an update notification. Let it do the update and that will put you at a good baseline for any of the other ROMs. I like the TnT Lite path and have been using it for a daily driver since I started modding. Stable and smooth. Good for media consumption and general communications duties. Roebeet is updating the ROM to 4.3.0 with some enhanced recovery options to address some of the problems people have had recently.

The sale is over now so that's out.
I would suggest that you Let it update so you can make a recovery of it. That way if you always have a blackout back to stock. That way when viewsonic sends out its next OTA you can always flash back to try it out. Plus word on the wind is the next OTA may change the firmware quite a bit. (Maybe an essential step by VS to eventually get to honeycomb, just rumor though.)
Good luck and have fun.

[Q] How to revert to a stock build?

Hey guys, I need to revert to a stock US build. I tried to do so by downloading US firmware from ASUS and putting it on the sdcard. The Transformer finds the file but when it restarts to install, it stays stuck in the boot screen.
Is it because I have clockwork recovery installed? currently I am runnng prime 1.6 with netformer 1.5. I tried to do the update under a rooted 8.4.4.5, not under prime.
I have not done it but I think you will have to NVFLASH it...
I'd like to know this as well, I have my TF for sale and a newbie buyer might want to have the stock OS so they can get OTA updates from Asus. Has anyone documented the process to go back to stock on the TF?

A little off topic...why are you selling?
I have both the TF and Tab 10.1 and after playing with both of them for a week the beautiful screen and slim design of the Tab won my heart over the functional advantages of the TF (keyboard and SD card slot). Plus Samsung's just announced slim bluetooth keyboard/case for the Tab sealed the decision for me.
I also have an Ipad and finally came to the realization that I was nuts for having 3 tablets.
Thanks for the response. I actually had the Samsung, Acer and Asus all in hand...I loved the Samsung but couldn't get past not having any memory expansion. The Acer had all the great ports but a poor screen relative to the others.
Hey there, new guy here.
I have read alot and done most by myself like a big kid... lol
But the last step which will be to install custom rom is missing one little detail, how to revert back to stock? I like to be prepared before making any steps. I searched about the subject but best result lead to this thread with no answers yet.
thanks for anyone's time.

TF 300 TG Jellybean Update

Anyone knows anything about when ASUS is planning to release an update for tf300 with 3G module? More than a week has passed since tf300 update, this suspense is kinda boring and unfun for me
Hey man, you and me in the same boat here....not so cool waiting for better days
I suppose they are working on it, must be a good thing as they probably seen what need to be fixed in the wifi release since release and working on the rom to make it better....probably, not sure.
I am just hoping soon!!!!
No response from Asus
Well, we're on the niche market that's why we will always be the last one to receive it(they will always give priority to the wifi-only version).
Tapatalked from my N7
Hi,
Its finally here last night, could someone please shed some light on doing the manual update as I have an unlocked bootloader?
you can download the update at the asus website, just need help installing it....is it same as the tf300 and need to install the 4.0.3 first and then do all that stuff before I can flash the 4.1?
Thank you...sorry for posting in a few places....just want it on the tab now
EDIT: I am now on JB, thank you

[Completed] droid bionic

I am a retired techie trying to upgrade a hand-me-down droid bionic from the last official release of android 4.2.1 to something higher than 4.3 (bought a cheap fitness tracker that requires the upgrade). I got the thing rooted and ran safestrap but when I went to download the CM 4.3.1 build I discovered that cyanomodgen is gone. The file I need is not listed as one "saved" the first place I looked. I expect there are other upgrades I can use and other randomly saved bits.
I realize that I am a dinosaur but didn't want to upgrade my dumb phone to a smart phone just yet (don't really have funds to buy something fancy or pay for smart phone service but hope to make shift soon). I just need to try the fitness tracker and decide if I want to keep the damn thing!! Please point me in the right direction... What started as a fun evening messing with something new (for me) is turning into a headache.
thanks
