[Q] activator for android? - Android Apps and Games

anyone know of an app like the iphone's activator app (from cydia)
for those that don't know, it allows you to set to open different app/functions with different combinations of button presses, e.g a double press of the home button in the lock screen might turn the light on, a long press of the home button at the lock screen might open the camera.. It's fully customizable.
The basic function I after is to quickly get up the camera app with out having to unlock the phone (I use the pattern lock)

has anyone used activator for iphone?? what do people think of its capabilities?

Hold home button.

The only thing that comes to mind is Tasker. Im not sure if it will do the things you want, but it might be able to.

Thanks, it seems like it can do a lot of things.. I'll have to work out how it works now

no luck
I have been trying to recreate Activator's functionality with Tasker since I switched to Android (2 years ago). I think Android just doesn't function similarly enough to get the same functionality. Activator & Glovepod (no touch music control) are the only things I miss about iOS. Tasker has so many awesome features though that I would never consider switching back.

GMD Gesture Control + Tasker replicates and even improves upon Activator. Bad part? They have a total cost of $11, but there are free trials for both.
Gesture Control works best on tablets though..

App Request: Increased Function of Optical Trackpad Button

There has been lots of interest over at Android Forums for an app that adds increased functionality to the optical button on the bottom of the Incredible.
App Fuctions:
While sleeping/locked
-Use button to wake the phone when sleeping (mimic power button)
While Awake (choose your setting)
-Button jumps to home screen
-Button brings up programs
-Button opens notifications drop-down
-Any other ideas?
Possibly could add additional function with a double press of the button as well.
I'm not a developer, so I really don't know how difficult something like this is. I just spent the last several hours creating sample apps and reading through the android developers website, but I'm not seeing anything on hardware button mapping.
Is anyone else interested in something like this? Or can anybody more familiar with the code chime in to what steps to take. I don't mind doing the leg work.
Thanks.
bump, would love to see something like this as well!
+1 on waking up the phone...something like this would probably require root though.

That's what I was kind of afraid of. Hopefully somebody will know more.
would love to see the trackpad run a virtual mouse (arrow cursor)
"myLock" already wakes up the phone. I know the dev uses a dInc... so if you email him ideas and he can do it, he probably will.
I'll tell you what would be most useful.
Instead of holding down the power button for 5 seconds to bring up the power/sound settings menu, make the optical button do that instantly.
That would be very useful. It seems like there is a laundry list of things that the button could be used for and it's extremely under utilized.
I pretty much gave up on developing the app myself because I couldn't figure out how to wake the phone with only the power and optical button.
Looks like we have to wait and hope a developer sees the interest and can help out.
I'd hate to bother them with such a small request when they are working hard on rooting our incredibles.
Increase Sensitivity?
I haven't seen anyone ask, but the one thing I really want from the Trackpad, is to turn up the sensitivity level, like one can do on a BB, (They have 10 dif levels for vertical and horizontal)
Why HTC didn't make this an option is beyond me, my trackpad is not nearly fast enough for me to utilize right now.
I have used it only 3 times to choose page numbers on forums/tightly spaced links so far.
That's really what the trackball is for... slow scrolling, with high precision. Personally, I hated how the End button on my Hero was also my Screen Toggle, but then again I came from WinMo where all HTC phones I owned had a dedicated power button. Call me weird, I just prefer it that way. And I don't really want the sensor-button to wake up the device; its not an iPhone. I think it distinguishes the devices, and besides, Apple is already suing HTC for a buncha crap (HTC is suing back, hurray!) and the last thing we need is for them to pull a bogus patent about the "Center analog input button waking up device."
Buuuut I do agree with maybe adding some sensitivity settings, as some games would be impossible to play with this optical sensor at its current sensitivity. Also, maybe a long press to open a custom menu, but not the sound/power menu as that would be redundant.
+1 for a app.
+1 on the app as well. A lot I'd these features would be very useful.
+1 on any app that gives us control over all of our buttons ala AEButton for WinMo... That's really the only thing I miss from my Omnia. Short, Long, Double, Triple presses, all for different functions.
I know you need Root, but that's inevitable. Hopefully someone with the skill is motivated to create an app like this.
+1 from me, would love to switch programs using the trackpad button
all great ideas OP
would love to see this implemented.
I'd love to have this app as well!

The only app i found that does anything with the trackpad is Widget Locker.
You can wake the screen with the trackpad and unlock it like you normally would.
And you get a nice new Android 2.2 lockscreen!

[APP][2.1+] No Touch

No Touch
Prevent accidental touches on your screen.
Useful when watching movies, passing the phone around, reading, etc.
Block:
Screen
Screen and Keys
Block / Unblock:
Camera Button
App Shortcut
Press Long Search
Quick Unblock:
Proximity Sensor
Apk attached for those without access to the android market.
Screens attached.
Great idea! It seems every time I hand my phone to someone to look at or take a picture, the display will change and they'll say "what happened?". I'll give this app a try.

I am interested in it. I'm trying out the free version (before I buy) but I notice somethings. Maybe its just me but when I watch a movie on the default player on my Evo4G, after tapping on the screen a few times, the lock disables. I can skip through the entire movie and even get out. I'm going to try it with a different player later today.
A few suggestions,
1) It would be nice if the toggle button changed (ex. inverted colors) because when I had the movie problem, I couldn't tell if it was locked or unlocked.
2) Is it possible we can change the location of the toggle button, at least like different corners because it's too close to the home button when in landscape.
One final note, when its locked, you can still drag down the notification bar. So far its looking pretty good. Let me know if I'm doing something wrong since I've only been playing with it for about 30 minutes. Thanks.
Man, this is just what I was looking for ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431037 ). Super!
I want it for e-reading in kindle or aldiko. Tested so far briefly on Galaxy Tab 8.9 (android 3.2) and an HTC Desire (2.3.3) ... Just fine so far.
I first tried Screen Tools 2, but that one messed up the use of volume buttons for page flipping in both kindle and aldiko.
it took me a while to understand some of the options, like the meaning of "auto on toggle". Also, the toggle app shortcut only works as "on switch" for me... With touch screen disabled, the toggle can't be used to deactivate.
It also took me a while to figure out how to unlock (the use of the tiny toggle button is not documented in the settings or anywhere)
EDIT: I realize now this is what's meant by onscreen button in the settings
The option to leave the edge active is also great, although I will probably opt to switch pages with volume buttons.
EDIT: swiping pages this way works well on the tablet, but is hit and miss on the phone. The edge size may need to be user selectable?
I second the idea to color code the tiny toggle.
Great work.
EDIT: I was searching (Google) for a long time using keywords like "disable touch screen" (all about turning screen off) and "disable touch sensitivity" with no results... Until I found screen tools 2, and then very accidentally this one.
---------- Post added at 01:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:25 AM ----------
Extra feature idea....
disable touch sensitivity along the edge only, keeping sensitivity on the center
Use case: I need something that allows me to hold the tablet a bit more firmly, in one hand, which means putting my thumb in the screen just a bit.

I can add the feature to block edges only, but there is an app called grip it which does just that.
And yes, I should probably use the icon for the status + maybe done kind of animation to tell you when toy unlock vs lock the screen.

hatcyl,
This is a great idea! If only I could get it to work.
After it installs, I can't open it. The screen blinks when I click on the icon, then.... nothing. According to my file manager, the app is running, but I can't access it.
I have the exact same problem with Screen Tools 2.
I tried to uninstall, reboot and reinstall, but it still won't work.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus on ICS.
I'd really like to get this working. Any ideas?

How can I make this work on Galaxy S2? Original 2.3.4 Rom
I have no camera and search button. Where are the settings?
I have installed it, but when I press on it, nothing!
Please help! I need this application!
After buying hardware key support, on my Galaxy S2 the home (and power) bottons still work... even with No Touch active, ofc. Otherwise no problems on my device, also on 2.3.4 ^^.
Also, I absolutly need a popup window on trying to unblock, for inputing a code to unlock, optionaly and maybe only on the payed for version . It is way too easy for my 2 and 4 year olds to unlock otherwise.
Also, I agree, change the color on button when unlocking/locking No Touch.
I would like to be able to choose which tiles on the homescreen to lock. That would be just perfect.
Just tried it and it works nice. I just have one question before I upgrade. If I block the hardware buttons will I skill be able to unlock using a long press of the search key?
is there any chance to make this app lock the screen with long press home button? that would be universal for all android phones. no camera button in my s2. and also so the phone will not respond to any other buttons (ie power button)

+1 for the long press home button to unlock idea! I guess my kids wouldn't figure that out too fast (Instead of "a popup window on trying to unblock")

[Q] Keyboard Dock Functionality

Hey all,
So I just recently bought the keyboard dock (a little late to the game I know ) and I was wondering if I could add some functionality to it.
First am I able to change what apps open with the function keys? Mainly I want to change the browser button so that it opens Chrome Beta instead of the stock browser.
Also can I add keyboard shortcuts in various apps? Specifically is there any way I can add cntrl+T or cntrl+F etc to Chrome Beta?
Finally, when I lock my screen using the lock function key I cannot turn the screen back on without reach up and clicking the button on the tablet. Is there a button on the keyboard that does this? Does it not work in ICS?
That's about all I can think of right now. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I don't know the answers on all your questions yet.
You can bring your tablet to life by swiping your finger over the touchpad, then press the home button to unlock.
Don't think there is a function to attach buttons to self-defined apps for now, anybody: correct me when i'm wrong.
See here for the browser button issue. As far as remapping other keys, that's dependent upon each application.
And if the TF101 w/ ICS is anything like the TF201, there should be a setting for dock power saving. If it's enabled, then the tablet won't wake up to key presses on the dock.

Thanks for this! I was wondering how to do this. I just recently gave out trying to figure it out since the key press is one inch away from my screen icon LOL. I have to say, Google needs to replace the stock browser with Chrome in future Android versions. What an improvement!!

[Q] Can the middle button behave like a capacitive button?

Is there any way to set the fingerprint button to behave like a capacitive button? I really just want to dab my finger on it and not have to depress, like the other two keys. I know the scanner registers contact but that click press it's really annoying when I just want the "desktop" etc. I think it would do wonders for the buttons longevity too... This may seem like a minor thing but it would really make the make the whole user interaction thing more standard. Having to big press one of three buttons is odd..
You can get a lot of apps that add "soft buttons" to your screen for things like Home. One that jumps to mind is called Button Savior.
That was my way of saying that, no, I don't think you can use that button without actually "clicking" it.
You could try the app called swype home button, just swype up from the screen just above it and itll take you home.
I completely agree with your desire here OP. Coming from an LG optimus G, I find myself gently tapping the button hoping for home.
As an alternative, I'd recommend the pie launcher app in the play store. No root required unless you want menu button functionality. Makes for a nice, easy to reach one handed set of on screen buttons that are only there when you need them, and you can use it as an app launcher too.

There has to be a way to do it because of the fingerprint sensor. I'm sure custom kernels soon will have this feature.
Bump any new ideas here?

Galaxy S6 Buttons

Hi,
I have a Galaxy S6 and I am new to android. I find the phone to be really interesting but one thing that keeps catching me out is the 2 buttons on the bottom of the phone, the back button and the “stack” button which loads all open apps. I am always pressing these by accident and would love to disable them, is this possible?
Not unless you want to root and modify things you don't yet know about as an Android newcomer. I'd suggest you stay away from that for now and just get used to being careful about the location of the capacitative buttons. :good:
It's just a matter of getting used to them, I'm afraid. However, if you want to avoid accidental hits at specific times such as when watching movies or playing games, they can actually be disabled without root. All you need to do is enable a feature called Interaction control under Accessibility settings. Once that's done, simply hold Home and Volume down and tap "Done" and you will see the buttons don't work anymore. Hold down Home and Volume down again to go back to normal. Quite handy really once you know it's there.
You can disable the capacitive buttons (or make them do other things) with an app called All in one Gestures
