Sprint 4g question..... - EVO Shift 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I do not have a 4g plan but I noticed using infinites rom I can activate and use 4g, my question is will I be incurring additional charges because of using it or is it just unlocked like the portable hotspot?
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA Premium App

You can't have this phone without the 4g plan. It's really that simple.
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App

Like riggs said, in order to use the evo, evo shift, or the epic; you must have the 4g plan. No exceptions, no work arounds. So no, you will not recieve any extra charges.
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk

Well I am on a company phone and our plan did not include 4g. I bought this phone and actuvated it on my line which did not have a 4g plan so either I will get charged or I have in fact found a workaround......

Previously I had a palm pixi so I know no 4g was included
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA Premium App

But the thing everyone is trying to tell you is once a 4G phone is activated the 10 dollars extra goes onto that line and as of a certain date ALL smartphones require the 10 dollar fee as a way for sprint to keep our data a true unlimited with no speed or usage caps at a certain point

Sorry didn't mean to rub it in

I work for Sprint. We don't offer a 4G service plan on wireless handsets. Yes, there is a $10 Premium Data Service for customers who either activate an Android OS platform based handset, upgrade to one or replace their existing feature phone or smartphone on their wireless line on or after 01/30/11. The base service plan for a smart phone on a single line is $69.99 before any applicable NVP discounts and taxes plus $10 for the Premium i.e. $79.99 per month. The 4G comes into play whether or not you're using a WiMAX handset inside Sprint's 4G footprint. At the present moment, there are 71 markets across the country which have been turned up for WiMAX. The hotspot feature of $29.99 per month is required for using your wireless handset as a mobile hotspot unless you manage somehow to root your handset and use a 3rd party app for it. If you want to conserve your battery, keep the 4G turned off your device unless you are either within the WiMAX network or actively using the mobile hotspot.

The required $10 Premium Data Service feature started on 01/30/11 eli311. Customers who currently have a smartphone on their wireless line are grandfathered in and are not required to pay this charge until they either
1. Activate a new line of service with a smartphone.
2. Upgrade from a smartphone or a feature phone to a smartphone.
3. Place a smartphone purchased from a third party on to their existing line.

ive done the trick twice for my personal lines and another three times for friends its simple
1. reset all the settings so u have to activate it
2.insert your sim card and activate enabling the unlimited data
3. be patient and wait until the phone says activated
4. WAIT UNTIL ITS ACTIVATED
5. once activated call att customer service
6. say ur upgrading from the iPhone 2g to the new phone and request to be grandfathered into the new unlimited plan
7. if they say they can ask for a supervisor and go higher

No, you can continue to use unlimited data. That's the "official" way of having unlimited data. This is for people who never had it, like myself. I wish the iphones that are on ebay didn't cost $100+... It's a lot for something I'll use once.

Is the nexus 4g unlimited on the 3g network

Just wondering if its unlimited or capped at 5gb

Unlimited, the same as every other smartphone on Sprint. The only limit is on data used while roaming.

Yes and no. You have unlimited data yes... but if you pass 5GB of Sprint 4G or in-network 3G for 3 consecutive months, you'll get a call from the compliance department.

So unlimited really isn't unlimited is that what your saying? I just signed up with sprint 2 weeks ago and I am up to 12 gig as of tonight so I guess I should lay low for a bit then. The carriers are making money big time with this bandwidth crap. I use 2 terabite a month on my servers and it cost me 15.00 so I have no idea what all this fuss is about. Thanks for the tip though...

NO you wont. Stop spreading bad information. The only way to get a call or letter from sprint is excessive roaming. Tethering is limited to 5gb. Or torrenting.

Its unlimited. The only limits are on broadband cards and for the tethering option, IF you pay for that.

I'm not spreading bad information. Go to your local (corporate) Sprint store and ask for a hard copy of your contract. It states 5GB on Sprint network, 300MB roaming. The compliance department will only get involved if your line is flagged. Only 2 ways I'm aware of to get flagged, #1 roam excessively (voice, data, or both) for 3 consecutive months, #2 use excessive Sprint bandwidth on a congested tower, or area for 3 consecutive months.
Your bandwidth cap DOES NOT change with the tethering add-on; you are just notified without a hard copy of the existing caps.
It's not Sprint actually supplying DATA services to the towers, but another ISP that sells bandwidth to Sprint. I know that only because I've had to upgrade some hardware at the Notre Dame Campus Sprint antennas, and the internet connection was supplied by Comcast.

Don't paint me a 'bad guy' cause I'm using the services I'm offered.
It's not people like me that are keeping sprint in the red and thus forcing them to cut services; it's more their poor management. So if you're gonna get at me with nothing more than accusations that I'm 'obviously tethering', you might as well start a thread and call out everyone ...

32GB is a bit excessive, but this Guy may not have a computer/internet at home so he uses his phone. Literally 2GB can be burned in a day easily, just using it moderately. (ie, how Sprint, VZW, AT&T, etc, portray in their ads)

Data has always been capped. Not to a point where they limit/charge, but if you look at the hard copy (full paper printed copy) it says you have 5GB as stated in the acceptable use policy portion of the contract. Look it up at Sprint.com or a Sprint store.

Htc One S on Simple Mobile $40

How does simple mobile's $40 unlimited plan work with the One S?Is any body in here on that plan? If so what is the data speed? I am planning on using the One S on TMO's $30 5gb data plan but the 100 mins is too short. If the SM plan has 3g unlimitted I'd rather sacrifice 4g speed for unlimitted mins and 3g. Thanks.
Sent from my EVO 4G using XDA
I wouldn't go simple mobile because I had the $40 plan back on my amaze and the 3G speeds are a joke. Also if you want to use the internet you must program the APN settings which is annoying and sometimes doesnt work anyways along with MMS.

Does Simple use T-Mobile's 3G bands? If not, the best you'll get is EDGE.
True, but they cap you at around 1GB of data use on 4G and 3G speeds are the same as EDGE speeds. I never had a problem with simple mobile till last month when they completely cut off my data for going over 1.5 GB on my Nexus Prime. I was on their $60 plan. There are also videos on YouTube that show simple mobiles 3G speeds and why you shouldn't go with them.

Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Why would we get flagged? We have unlimited data. We chose not to buy a phone subsidized by Verizon so that we can keep unlimited data.
I am the IT guy for a church and school and I've upgraded 10 users to 4G phones through eBay and Craigslist. One of our staff members uses 40GB a month, I use about 15 GB. All of us go well over 2 GB, but what does it matter? We have unlimited data!
It would stand to reason that AT&T users with grandfathered unlimited plans are more abundant than us since they can still upgrade through AT&T and keep unlimited data.
I don't see why anyone would get flagged. The number of unlimited data VZW users will only decrease over time. Verizon makes more money than anyone. They add towers practically every week.
I say, sit back, and soak up the data!
