I am in Baltimore Maryland... Ever since i upgraded to jf's rc33 firmware, i get aloooooooooot of " undelivered message" notifications. This never used to happen to me, maybe once a week with 2 messages. In most cases people ask me why the F am i triple texting, and it happens when i try to resend the messages and the phone keeps saying "message cannot be delivered". Is anyone else experiencing this? In maryland only perhaps?
I have tried keeping message count below 100, reseting the phone seems to be the only quick fix. One other thing, when i try to make phonecalls every now and then, the **** just hangs up as soon as the call is placed and when i receive a call sometimes and i press the answer key, it takes about 10 seconds to answer and continues to ring. suggestions buddys?
Make sure you delete your SMS threads if they get too long. Typically once threads get past 150 they are slow and take a while to open. If you are using the stock sms try chomp seems to handle threads better. I have JFRC33 and have not issues.
My wife and I have the exact same problem with the phone hanging up and not picking up a call for while. And dropped calls - almost always. And we live in the heart of Dallas.
yea the g1 is a nice phone, but either android or t-mobile blows..
every now and then people call me, and i get a missed call, but the phone never rings,
and sometimes when i call people, they pick up but one of us cant hear the other,
and sometimes, the g1 will ring, but when i press the green button to anwser, the phone continues to ring

I am in Baltimore as well, and I have JF1.42 RC33, without any of the problems you have. Sorry, can't be of more assistance, but maybe your SIM card is old and needs to be replaced? I have heard of them causing issues sometimes.
yup same thing is happening to my phone. it is really starting to piss me off. i thought it was cuz i dropped my phone but i guess others have been getting the same thing. i hope theres a fix for this
I had this happen to me about two days ago. SMS failed to send to anyone. I restarted the phone and havent had a problem since. They are still developing this unit, so try to be patient.
i've had some calling issues recently, both making and receiving.
sometimes when receiving a call, i'll pick up and my phone will reboot, and take absolutely ages to boot up. and when making calls the other end will sometimes go completely dead and it's the same for the other person.
only happens very occasionally but it's happened with a few landline calls and different mobile networks. only been since RC33 too. not saying it's related but it is kinda annoying.

Could be too many apps eating memory on the G1 and/or buggy apps crashing buggy android. The best you can do is download mybackup from market, back up all data +sms+ageda etc, Wipe the phone. An dont install a single app from the market in 1-3 days and see if problems dissapear.
Personally, i never install any app who claims to "start at boot" Never. MyBackup is one of them and always delete it after backup. i may be wrong but i thing resident in memory apps and apps who starts at boot degrades performance over time, because many of them are buggy so i avoid using them. Well my phone runs fine with this.

well i think this happen when phone memory is full, try to delete least used applications, clear applications cache like browser and youtube , then do a reset.
Ive had the issue more than a few times where the phone will start ringing but the screen will stay dark, i wait until it turns on to see who is calling after a few rings and then it wont respond to pressing the answer button unless i press it a few times, and even then it takes its sweet time answering. Ive dropped plenty of calls due to this, and yes it has only started happening after the radio firmware/RC33 update.

Oh... don't even start my on "MyBackup"... I kept trying to figure out why my phone was lagged so much when I was going back to home screen. Uninstalled apps that were running all the time one by one. MyBackup and Phonebook were 2 biggest memory hogs. Phone runs oh so smooth after I unistalled those 2. Backgrounds app still autostarts for some reason but I like that app too much to uninstall and it does not cause as many problems.

I started running into the issue of the phone not actually responding to the "answer call" button, but found it was only happening when I had auto-rotate set up with the DroidSans tools and the display had been rotated to landscape. It seemed like it would start trying to switch to portrait, then lock itself up long enough for the call to go to voicemail, then flip to portrait and be responsive again. I haven't had the problem since I disabled auto-rotate.
However, on the "too many apps" thing, I've suddenly started noticing that my phone will start a good 15-20 apps on startup, including things like AK Notepad. I didn't notice if this was something that started with RC33 or if I've done something else to make this happen...does this happen with anyone else?
I have had a similar issue with my g1 dropping calls and will sometimes see a force close while on a call as well. I did a wipe and did not enable auto rotation and so far it seems to be running more smoothly.
Been there done that...I am having the same issues and it is beginning to drive me nuts. I make heavy heavy use of my phone on a daily basis. Dropping calls where they just go to la la land...or the phone rings and I cannot answer for about 10 to 15 seconds, the phone just reboots for no reason... stupid things like that. I have RC33 rooted, radio upgraded with JF 1.41 and this has been happening daily about 3 times or so a day. I love my G1 and I have a hard time parting with it...I am trying to be patient while it develops but...I am about to go get the 8900 curve...
I forgot to mention...I had to do a wipe on my phone also due to a problem with the accelerameter and that did not help this issue either.

Weird one here, 'cause I can't seem to figure out what could be wrong.
I have owned 3 WinMo devices over the last few (many, I'm very careful) years but something has been bugging me with all devices; WM2003, WM5, last one WM6.1 recently upgraded via official T-Mo Rom to WM6.5.
* Multitasking has always been a problem, usually could only run few progs until an app closed itself (without warning) or I got low mem message
* Sometime running a single app, nothing else, even the single app like for instance Opera or Skyfire (while viewing a light site) browser would suddenly be gone (while browsing, or when turning on TP2 from standby).
I had the above with ALL my WinMo phones, all the above mentions OS. From almost fresh out of the box till using a device for more then 2 years. I thought it was just me, or that this was just something WinMo does standard and I would just have to get used to it. But since viewing vids on YouTube of for instance someone showing of his new TP2 while having about 10 heavy apps open in his taskmanager and then even showing Terminator 4 on high quality in CorePlayer. I thought *damn?* I didn't even see a bit of extra lag on his device?
Through Advanced Config i turned off the automatic closing of apps when mem usage is high, thought this would solve it; no dice...
Then I started thinking maybe it is an app I installed on every device so far. This is not really the case, although I do almost always install SPB Pocket Plus, and then via Pocket Plus menu uninstall almost all tools except the task bar battery indicator which I found handy, but this simple thing couldn't be causing all this on all different devices right? And every app I ever install I always check for a newer version before installing, or redownload software instal packs when something (like moving / copying, etc) could have damaged the install pack.
On my TP2, it's been getting more and more recent that most apps are just suddenly "gone" while doing nothing spectacular (just TaskMan all the time to check mem and almost never run multiple apps anymore simply trying to prevent that one app disappearing).
Is there a way to get a log file or something to be able to see what is causing all this, cause today was getting to be a "last straw"; both my Opera and SkyFire closes about 20 times in one hour, switched to Pocket IE... And again gone. Sometimes almost immediately, sometimes after using a few minutes. Actually one of the few apps that keeps itself (almost annoyingly) present and never shuts down is PockeTwitter which I started recently, nearly everything else (including standard ROM WinMo software like HTC Album and more) disappear when they feel like it.
Help help... It's like a curse following me...
Ps. To prevent dumb answers: I'm fairly smart with PC's and windows; I used to work in the IT business. So I do indeed know (a bit ) what I'm talking about. I can help other people with their PC and phone trouble; but this is just driving me crazy since there's no error message, nothing to help me figure out what's been bugging me al these years with WinMo.
I would say install a custom rom and then see how things go. My touch HD was a really annoying phone to begin with with all sorts of little bugs but after installing various custom roms nearly everything is ok.
(my phone does sometimes black screen and it needs the reset button to fix- only happens after 5 or more days without reseting)

I'm trying to find a way to get dialer, calls log and contact list fast as light.
Exemple: each time you launch the dialer he is keep in memory. If you launch "heavy" application and launch the dialer (Oops: I mean contact list) again it's take up to 5 secs to appear.
*Edit because of unhelping answers elsewhere* It's possible to lock "telephony functions" (dialer, call's log and contact list) in memory ?
As I say in another forum : I know this is a strange idea, but I have this smartphone to call people too !

I'm not sure what you mean by "keeping in memory". I take it that you have recently switched from windows mobile? Can you give an example of a "heavy application" that causes slow down?
I would suggest removing any task manager or memory optimization applications from the phone. These are the ones which cause the most slow downs.
Also, the slow down could be caused by putting more stuff on the phone than it is capable of, as in running too many background applications. Try checking your settings->application->running services to see if you have a bunch and try removing the unnecessary ones.
Also, keep in mind that just because an application is in memory, will not make it faster to switch to. The time that it takes for the CPU to load something from disk is only a small part of the total time that is required to display it. If the CPU is occupied with a bunch of background services then the foreground application will only be able to claim a share of the CPU time and thus, regardless of being on disk or in memory, will still be slower to load.
Maybe you can use a swap device to optimize memory usage?

In fact, heavy application is not the good explaination, it's more about how Android manage memory. So when I talk about "heavy application" I'm talking about the application who, because of Android memory managment, unload another "thing" from RAM.
Two day ago someone ask me to add him in my contact list and i've to tell him to wait a little until my contact list to load.
The original question, who was not understand by others people elsewere, is :
If I launch the dialer (or contact list) once, it load "slowly" (~2secondes, "very long")... if I immediatly press home and launch it again it load almost instantaneously (fast as light)...
Now, if I load some applications (web browser, gmail and Spotify at same time) memory is freed so, if I launch the dialer again, it will load "slowly" again.
Question : How to get the case 1 for dialer, call's log and contact list in most situation ?
I can understand that slow load time may happend in some case (high cpu load, ...) but why after the first launch, the second one (without doing anything else) is *VERY* fast ?
"Keep Home in memory" in Spare Parts allow fast display of home after using "heavy" applications (maybe because he's already loaded/keeped in RAM or stuff like that), I want the same for the telephony functions.
I'm trying to avoid "garbage" solutions like autokiller&co, just want a real tips (even if it's a little bit more technical than create a swap partition).
PS: I never touch a WM phone, before my phone was old, not multi-task and "telephony functions" was faster than right now

I would like to lock the dialer in memory too. It takes a LONG time on CM5.0.8 (5 seconds!) to launch. Any ideas?

in CM7 there is an option to keep home in memory which lock the home data in ur memory when ever u press the home button it switch fast to it cuz it was never killed
maybe that affects the loading of other apps since it takes a space of ur memory depending on what u have on your home screen but for some ppl its important to switch fast to home screen ... same for the messaging app
On the other hand there is No option to lock Phone app in the memory although its way more important than keeping ur home screen in memory ,,, i mean its what the phone was made for in first place...
why do i need to wait 2-5 seconds til the phone app loads so i can dial a number ,,, makes u miss the old times really!!
i hope any one knows a way to lock the phone app in memory so it's always awake and loaded when ever its in need and it shouldn't affect the load of other apps since its very light and its way lighter than home app :/

I have a friends galaxy S here that shows various pictures of androids whenever she is done making calls or when the phone comes out of idle. I want to remove this but I cannot figure out which app is doing this. Anyone have a clue? I'd like to avoid doing a factory reset just to get rid of that annoying app.
Had this problem long time ago on Hero and it was caused by a game that asked to me to press a button as many times as possible to get a highscore. Though I doubt it's the same here, so I would download a task manager and see what app from the recently installed apps takes your CPU the most after a call.
been having this crazy lag in placing calls with the sense dialer which can take up to 40+ sec!! where, for example, if i select the option of calling a certain contact, i press the button and like nothing happens for like 30-40 sec, and then the calling screen appears!!
Been searching for any solutions, and thou many people apparently had it on several devices, no concrete solution is out there. tried clearing the calls log, removing several synced accounts (exchange, fb…), and other suggestions as well, but all in vain!! the only thing that temporarily works is rebooting, where there is no lag in the first 3-4 calls made, but after that the lag is back and it can takes up to 40+ sec (literally) to place a call, and whenever I doubt pressing the call button and try placing the call again it just queues it and it ends up dialing the number again after the 1st call is placed and putting the previous one on hold and so on!!
is there anyone else facing the same? would truly appreciate any help or suggestions (preferably not a hard reset!) as this problem is really causing me so much trouble?

Not seeing that issue on my phone on either stock rooted rom, nor on Bulletproof rom.
