I have searched, and have not found any information that can help me.
I have a touch that the Service Centre want £90 to repair - new motherboard. Is this fixable with a jtag - If so, does the Holly Gates Schematics for a Jtag Dongle work here?
Has anyone successfully JTAG'd an ELF? If so, was it due to a similar circumstance as myself?
Anything I have come across goes to Russian sites - I'm not russian, nor can I read it.
I have seen posts for other devices, but these seem to all be based on a Samsung Chipset, apposed to our OMAP devices?
Any help would be great, even if it is just to go read a post that I have missed when searching.
Stu
Hey, not sure if anyone would care all to much.
I have found a jtag setup I am curently preparing to use, I am going to hopefully be trying to do this tomorrow. I am working on a guide as I do it - as I haven't been able to find one. If this would be useful to anyone let me know, and I will upload it as soon as I have tested it on my broken elfin to make sure it works!
Hey mate, we care and keep us posted with any results.
Good luck!
hey just come into a bit of a stuck point. I have no images to support this.
I am trying to fix the cables to the main board on the jtag points. Aout 5mm wide. I dont really want to solder them on. Does anyone have any suggestions on how best to affix them? I'll try and get some pictures up tomorrow when i can.
Stu
Unable to do pictures today, I will do them tomorrow hopefully on my lunch break, so people can make suggestions.
I am a little scpetical about if this will work. I do not know the history of the device I am tinkering with, but I hope this will fix it.
If anyone has a broken elf they would like to part with for me to test, that would be great (I would pay ofc)
Pic
Hey,
Please see attached image.
This points out the JTAG test points, labelled to what they do (in theory) and what pin they connect to the JTAG device from the LPT cable.
I think these are very small to be able to tape them on, I also do not think that they would give a good enough connection. I am going to try to solder the cables on tonight - but in the mean time, if anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to let me know. Any ideas are good!

Hi captainstu72,
I have a completely dead HTC Touch P3450. Really dead. Even when I plug the charger to the device, the orange light (as a sign that the phone is charging now) can not light on.
A service man asked me to replace the machine for USD 80, as he said we can not do j-tag to HTC ELF
Your thread is very exciting. Please keep posting, I'll follow this thread.
Thanks

Hey bombom81,
I'm glad this can be useful for others. I just want to make sure that people don't get their hopes up too soon, thats the thing, I don't know if it is definately able to work, but I know it has been done on other phones with a very similar chipset to ours.
If I have any major break through tonight, I will definately be doing a write up on it tomorrow in my lunch, and If you'd like I can PM you when done so you can give it ago.
Your ELF sounds as though it is in a similar state to mine, so hopefully, if I get this fixed, it may well work on yours!

Yes..I had this problem months ago and I've made a thread for it :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=582913
Unfortunately, every suggestions I got from people here didn't work in my device. And I could not even claim a warranty for it as the seller said that the product warranty is already expired too long ago (in the end I knew that the product was his present from his office, and when he said it is new, means that, It is new because He never used it...LOL, not "new" from the factory). So I just keep it in my cupboard.
I think It will be more valuable for others if we discuss here, on your thread, than PM, as I think there are many people are having the same problem like us (as many as I can find after I google "Repair Totally Dead ELF" )
Please, kindly also check this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=602233
This guy also found a similar thing like yours. I actually don't know a thing about JTAG. In the future, please forgive me if I might ask you some questions about it and I hope you don't mind about my questions.
Thanks for your kind to share your experience with us, I'll keep watching this thread and hopefully you'll be success with your experiment so it can bring the joy for all of us.
Best Regards,

Hey,
Likewise, every suggestion I could find had no luck, which I why I decided to dig deeper.
I did come across GallegoT's thread, however, I sent him a PM to see if he had got anything sorted, but I have never heard back - So I created a new one.
I was going to keep this thread posted, don't worry, I was only going to PM you when it was finished - to save you keep checking it
Had a few issues with it last night, tried soldering to the board, but my soldering iron doesn't get hot enough, hasn't got a thin enough tip, and my hands weren't steady enough - Also the wires I was using were fairly wide, I have swapped these for a thinner Kynar wire, and will more then likely be remaking the whole of my setup to make it easier.
Just so you have an idea - I currently have an LPT (male to male) cable which I have taken the end off, and soldered wires to 2 3 4 6 11 and 18-25. 18-25 link then into one wire, as this is to ground the device. 2 3 4 6 and 11 are connected to 100Ω resistors each. These are then connected to wires, which are ready to be connected to the device.
Thats the basics of the device - I do not have an image of what I have planned out avaliable, but you can get the idea of it from what is in this post, and using my image posted earlier.
Maybe you guys have better tools - soldering equipment etc then I do.
When this is done you need to run a program called HJtag, and NoIce. I have an idea on what to do for these, however, I have not tested it yet to want to post it on here.
Like I have said though, I will be making a guide that is as full as I can.
I will try some more tonight, to get the cables connected, and hopefully then will be able to give the whole process a go.
Thanks for your interest in this thread, even if I only manage to help one person, at least then I feel as though I will be giving something back to the community on this site.
(I'll point out now - I did not have a clue about Jtag before now - but I also have some links I will post which make some interesting reading!)
Stu
Hey to anyone who is still watching this.
I have just got my elfin all wired up, ready to go, circuit is fully continuous and there are no bridges (I haven't soldered for more then 8 years!)
However, I have been a bit stupid, my pc doesn't have a parallel port. I'm going to buy one tomorrow and get going - very annoyed about this set back, i'm such an idiot for not checking!
I'll try it tomorrow night hopefully, worst case would be friday/saturday - A long time since starting this projct, but my hopes are high and I really hope I can help some of you guys out there!
Just thought I should update you all, I don't want this thread to become dead... like our elfs
Stu
LOL..no need to worry that your thread is dead.
I'll visit this thread everyday to see how it's going
BTW...do we really need the LPT Socket to do the JTAG? if so, then I will have to ask my IT man in my company to find me a "no-used" LPT socket, lucky I have an old Pentium 3 PC that I might be able to use it for this JTAG matter.
Please update the step-by-step tutorial here with photos so I can follow you easily. FYI, I am blind in this JTAG matter, so please do not mind to answer my next "silly questions".
Keep going! Thanks
Parallel is the only interface I have found to do it on - I would have much prefered usb or something more up to date, but we can't always have what we want.
Below are a few links that I read through before doing anything, just so I could get a vague understanding. I'm workign on the guide today on my lunch - the last part will have to be in theory.
Jtag Introduction
Someone Jtag'd an Ipaq (not the same but the concept)
Has some links to JTAG
Program we will be using for the jtag
NoIceDebugger - A program I will be using
What I think our Processor is
OMAP 850
Again, I will be making a an actual guide, this is just some reading before hand that i did that may be useful!
Stu
hey, well, i have a parallel port and have attempted the jtag.
It didn't work.
My guess is i was using too long cables, or something has come loose. My continuity tester has now died so i will be testing again on the weekend.
I'm going to post the guide i am working and what i did tomorrow. Maybe someone (bom81) would be able to give it a go and do well as i'm sure he will.
Sorry for the failure, but i am really optimistic that it will work, and that it didn't only because of something i may have wired wrong that someone else does right. I'm going to try and get a thirc elf to break and fix as well as it may just be the one i am doing is beyond repair.
Bom81, if you give this a go, good luck. I'm sure you'll have some luck!
If anyone else tries when i have the guide up, please please let this thread know, even if it doesn't work.
Stu
Hi Stu..
Can you give me the russian forum that explain about this jtag on HTC Touch.
I'm going to learn it there.
BTW, how long have you made the cable? have you cut it shorter and try again the connection?
Try to read this thread : http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f98/htc-elf-dead-after-wrting-elfin-rom-650359/
This guy has the same problem with us but finally (or luckily?), the device could come to Bootloader mode. I'm going to try to PM him, so he can explain how did he get the device work.
Thanks for your try.
Regards,
Bom81
This is for the wizard - same omap 850 http://pda2u.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=348
I can't find my link for the touch, it may be on my home pc, but it was on the same website iirc.
Cable was about 50cm's - Too long, so I am remaking it to around 15cms tonight, but will be fun as I do not have my continuity tester to make sure that the circuit has the right resistance etc. before I think I was going over by too much due to cable length.
I have started the guide, I just need a few files off my home PC, so I will do this tonight again.
It really annoys me when other threads/sites do not put everything down they have tried, the internet is for information, not for saying, "ha, i've done it!"
I'll try again tonight and tomorrow, I think I have my LPT PCB sockets waiting to be collected, all the way from China, so this will be easier for me to do ultimately.
I haven't yet given up hope, and I'm sure that if I get my document made, someone will be able to tweak it and further help us.
I just don't know how many people are using the Elf's anymore, its fine there being a thread saying we have 900's htc touch's, but how many still use them and are active on this community.... but I digress.
I am really sorry that I am not good in Electronic thing, nor that I know how the electronic equipment works.
But I will try to learn from the website url you provided. Afterall, my HTC is already dead, it will not be a big problem if I make some experiments on it. If I'm lucky enough, I might wake a Frankenstein from his dead. LOL !!
Thanks,
Bom81
JTAG HTC device
Thanks first of all for your effort captainstu72 and bombom81, very interesting thread.
I am also in the same situation - having a bricked device (flashed wrong ROM and/or wrong carrier) and thus also interested in getting a serial cable hooked up to it no bootloader - no reset. The device is therefore software-wise dead.
I would therefore also love to try your procedure to getting a JTAG connection to the device. I have not been dealing with soldering on electronic devices since I did this on commodore 64... quite a few years ago as you imagine but therefore even more exciting.
I will check this thread and get a serial cable. Oh does the H-JTAG Software also run from linux since I only work on linux on this machine?
Thanks in advance and let me know if I can be of any help in this.
Oliver
Hi Stu and ITCons (welcome to the thread)
I've read the Russian website and have made a translation of the thread from Russian to English using Google Traslate.
Unfortunately, as I said before, I have no competency in electronic, but I'll try to learn.
All credits for the compiled document will go to user id : MEDUSH and ARCC in the Russian Forum (PDA2U.Ru), as they mentioned this document might be reprinted by their copyright.
Please have a read to the document I attached...I'll come back if I'm finding out something (as this week I'll face my busiest week of the month, there are some reports in my daily jobs that I need to prepare to my Boss...LOL).
Thanks for your kind attention.

Bom81
Thank you very much Bom81
I have found another thread on this forum as well in the gene section, which shows how they did it on the gene too (omap 850 processor as well) I have posted on there to ask if anyone can relink to the revised download, but so far, there has been no update.
I'm going to go through what you have posted tonight bom, it matches most of what I was going which is always good (from my point of view, as it means i wasn't chasing a lost cause)
Sorry for not posting the guide yet, i'm slacking! But now, obviously, it does not matter so much as bom has posted an excellent guide in his post.
ITcons - I have had a (very) quick look, I don't think HJTAG runs on linux, although I would be interested to see how it would work in cedega/wine (this is not something I can test personally), I hope it would be able to use the LPT ports etc correctly - but again, nothing I really have a whole lot of experience about.
I'll see how it goes tonight, hopefully I should have remade my circuit again, and will be ready to test once more! - This time I am using an LPT PCB Socket - hopefully easier to do as there will be less in the way of resistance from excess cables.
Stu
Stop getting angry when we do not want to help you fix the problem you are having. Seriously, quit it. You are warned left and right that you may not or will not get support for it. The simple fact is that auto/easy root methods are too questionable. It leaves you in the dark when something goes wrong. We cannot easily figure out what happened, why it happened, or what exactly the issue is because it is automatic. I'm annoyed at the amount of users who go onto IRC begging for help and start freaking out on us because YOU wanted the easy way out. It doesn't take more then a Google search to learn exactly what to do, what it is doing, and how it works for the manual root method. I can only speak for myself but I'm plenty sure other members can agree and attest to this. I, myself, spend more time helping lazy/scared people FIX their phones BECAUSE of an easy root method then doing any real development! And when I decline to, the AndIRC chatroom becomes a hated place and gets bashed on. Use at your own risk. Enjoy.

If you don't want to help, don't help. People have every right to ask for help and if they freak out on you for not helping, ignore them. All you're doing by posting this thread is returning the sarcasm and snarkyness that you're accusing them of dishing out.
No no no. ProTekk is 1000% right on this. I get tired of lazy assholes on IRC who want to be spoon fed.

Tbh, this wasn't an "I'm better and smarter than you" post. It was meant to be a clear and valid warning to all. In no way was I trying to come off as snarky or a know it all. If you take this the wrong way then maybe you need to.reread this and start over again.

I agree 100%.
There are a lot of new people moving into android with this phone, and a lot of progress has been made through development inthe few weeks it has been out.
People really need to slow down, and read before jumping. I think that was proven this morning...good one Jcase
I've had a rooted phone for over a year now, been through roms like mad, but still get nervous and re-read every post before I put something on my phone and understand exactly what it's doing.
Take your time people, read, re-read, ask questions, then flash, your phones not going anywhere unless you do something dumb and end up with a brick....which would more than likely be your fault if it happens.

Forgot about the questions. They.are more than welcome if it is about rooting. Ask away. We share knowledge. We don't hoard it and say go home. Glad to see some voices in here besides mine.

Completely agree with protekk. Devs can not help you if they don't know the exact process of rooting went wrong if you use a "1 click" method. Using the process put out by jcase a person can start over or even go back to the prior step. The process jcase put out was a step by step (copy & paste commands) process. I am no better than any of you, but I can read and follow simple instructions, and in doing so have gotten a good understanding of adb. As for getting help, I have never had a problem with getting help, even when I started.
When rooting or flashing, you need to read, read, read, read, until you are comfortable with the instructions. Xda has info to getting everything setup and running. Research before you flash or root.
+1 man. I've only had my Thunderbolt for a few days and ended up deciding to root manually because I wanted to know what was going on, step by step. It's taking a little time to get used to CWM coming from the Eris where I've used Amon Ra's recovery.
<soapbox>
I've noticed a trend of folks really beating up on the dev's. Guys, our dev's do this for free or donations. Some even insist that we donate to the homeless or our favorite charity. You're not paying for support, these guys do what they do out of love and commitment to the community. Please remember this before you log onto IRC or make a new thread. The dev's have gone through a lot of trouble to learn these systems and write scripts for you, usually through reverse engineering and a lot of time. Respect their time by searching first.
Additionally, if you need help - please and thank you goes a long way. So do logcats and output from the screens that you're currently working with
Now, back to your regularly scheduled discussion.

All I'm saying is I remember a lot of people complaining about jcase, not wanting a 1 click root released . He wanted people to know what was being done and how to do it. And people complained saying he had no right. I believe this is why he didn't want it released to soon. Damn I hate mind readers. Lol

If someone doesn't want to put in the time to understand what is going on and the processes taken to make it happen they shouldn't even bother rooting.
This is my first android phone ever. I have successfully rooted it on both a mac and pc. I followed the instructions and learned how to use adb (nothing fancy of course). If I can learn others can too.

Thats a good point OP.
The method posted by JCASE is so simple that anyone should be able to do it.
1) Install drivers for your phone
2)copy files to your ADB directory and to your phone SD card
3)Open a command prompt
4)Copy and paste a bunch of ADB commands
5)Put the other PG05IMG.BIN on your phone
6)Copy and paste some more adb commands
7)Download a few market apps
8)Success
I mean where is that difficult? Its basically spoon fed. If you don't have the ability to copy files to your phones SD card, copy and paste commands into a DOS prompt, follow clear instructions, and install driver software for your phone, then you probably shouldn't bother doing anything. I don't even consider myself an ADB pro, I learned how to use some of it with my MOTO Droid and I still don't know what a bunch of the commands are. I know how to push files to my phone, how to pull files from my phone, and some other misc commands.
I agree. I was frustrated sure. Took me another 7 tries and a few different methods. But in the end I was the one responsible. I could have chose to give up , but because I didn't want to be left behind I kept learning and trying. I finally got it last night. It even feels better knowing how much trial and error I had to try. Makes me appreciate it more.

I'm considering moving to Android, possibly the Thunderbolt. I'm experienced with flashing custom ROMs to WinMo 6.X phones, but that's not a root process (at least not on any phones I've owned), it's a simple process of connecting the device tp a PC via USB, launching a program on the PC, clicking a few buttons and restarting the phone. Done.
Coming from that simplcity, the rooting process looks kinda daunting, but not impossible. I've been reading as much as I can in different forums, but without having the phone in front of me and trying it out, I'm not understanding the process.
For instance, "Open a command prompt." Is this on a connected PC, or directly on the phone? If on the phone, how do I get to a command prompt on it?
I guess I'd like to ask the knowledgeable folks here for a website they'd recommend for an absolute beginner to bone up before attempting his first root? Or multiple sites, where I can not only read how it's done, but what is actually happening at each step. I know my way around Windows pretty well (up to XP anyway), but have no idea when it comes to Linux.
As to folks who dork up their phones while trying to root/modify - the devs are offering their knowledge, free of charge. You aren't being forced to root, it's your choice and ultimately your responsibility. I've seen the occasional Sp.Ed. flip out because his phone bricked while flashing a WinMo custom ROM that someone spent many hours working on and tweaking. Not often, I'm glad to say - most folks are grateful for the effort.
This was my first android phone, and initially I was too scared to do the manual method. But, I manned up and decided to do it, and to be honest, it was simple. After that, I tried reading all the threads and being active in the community. That's the thing with attaining knowledge, you have to be proactive. Read through everything, and often. Don't just ask questions only when it pertains to your problem, because from what I've seen, it's always answered in some thread.
tl,dr:The gist, just be proactive. read read read

Ayup. either a long contract or an expensive phone I do not want anything bad to happen to it
with my og droid I would do just about anything to it because that thing was bulletproof and I got buy 1 get 1 free .
my thunder bolt, it's treated with kid gloves
this is not a signature I type it in every time maybe sent from my phone or my computer
I have to agree for the most part...I rooted my bolt with the very first method released and it took me quit a while...had to do allot of reading (adb). I got most of my questions answered by going threw the threads.... reading other peoples problems they posted and then the fixes or answers left by knowledgeable forum members. Yes that takes time but it does help...I will vouch for that...lots of knowledge and answers here just have to put in the time.
I think people should be able to ask questions on here...thats part of why the forums are here, but if you ask and you don't get answer it's more than likely you have ask a question that has been asked before...several before's....Its just to basic of a question which could have several answers (not enough info in the question)....or you ask to many questions which means you have not done your home work.
Read and then read some more....google and google some more.....then ask the question....

People want to be spoon fed - doing things the right way is too hard for them
So, can someone link me to a simple, current guide to rooting and removing crapware? Bonus points if I can revert all changes so they can't screw me on my warranty.
I have an AT&T One X, purchased in the last week. I can post version info if necessary.
I want to ditch the yellowpages garbage and all the att garbage (wifi, navigator, cityid, etc) and probably twitter and facebook, though I don't really care if they're there. I'd also like to enable tethering if I can.
I had a ROM on my last phone (samsung infuse) which did all this, but I don't think I want to put a ROM on this one just yet. So, I'm not new to rooting, but I'm new to HTC, and new to removing/freezing bloat. I'm running linux.
Oh, and I saw the one-click root thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644167
But I read that it makes your phone show *TAMPERED* and lock you out? That makes me terrified of running it.
Edit: Oh, and I have software number 1.85.502.3 710RD... I don't think it would work anyway.
Here are the two best places to start for this stuff:
Number 1
Number 2
Good luck!
You can disable them without voiding warranty. The only thing i couldn't disable was AT&T ready to go.

Because I obviously haven't been trying to use those. Seriously, these forums contain some of the most unapproachable instructions that exist, instructions that have the potential to brick your device, and if you ask for some advice on not getting your $600 device completely ****ed by them, you get linked to google. I help users of various open source projects all the goddamn time, and I never go HERP DERP LMGTFY.
So give real advice or just don't reply. It's not helpful or constructive, it doesn't make you cool, it doesn't even clean up the forums. If you know nothing and are posting to be a jerk, then you're just bumping my post for me. If you're deliberately withholding information and posting to be a jerk, then you're actively increasing forum clutter by keeping me around longer. Either way, the outcome is that the "signal to noise" ratio of the forum goes to **** because half the posts are "OMG GOOGLE," because this attitude is actively encouraged for some reason, when in reality it shouldn't even be tolerated.
Holy crap dude, chill the eff out. My post was completely lighthearted and I was fully prepared to help you and give you whatever help you needed. Hence the that I ended it with. Not anymore!
And you know what's not tolerated around here? Farking n00bs who CLAIM they exhausted searching when it is more than evident they didn't. Answers to ALL your questions can be found in guides ON EVERY DAMN ANDROID FORUM ON THE INTERNET, including here on xda where you decided to post the same exact thread that has already been posted thrice today by other noobs asking for help without wanting to do any legwork of their own.
And if you can't understand the simple "herp derp click here and watch your phone get rooted automagically for you" instructions then maybe you shouldn't be rooting. Smart phones are for smart people.
GOOD DAY.

You can disable apps, or uninstall them by going to settings>apps, or by going to the menu on your app drawer and selecting manage apps. once there, you can tap on apps that you don't want then tapping on them individually and selecting the option that you want.
Titanium backup. The end.

I've dedicated the last hour or more to searching for this ****. Once you've been into modding your phone for a while, you don't understand how difficult it is to get started.
I'm trying to go about this with caution, so I don't get screwed. I cannot afford to replace the phone if I screw up and HTC and ATT decide to throw me under the bus. Maybe the people around here who seem to own 3-5 phones at a time can.
The various roots that I found appeared to have users replying that they didn't work with the latest revisions to 1.85. So I'm still not even sure I can do that. Maybe those users were full of crap, maybe not. How am I supposed to know?
Back to the subject of the phone, it looks like CleanROM is probably my best option, but it will require unlocking the bootloader. So far I've seen instructions for rooting 1.85, but I'm unsure about unlocking.

Lets start over, ok?
To root your phone, there is a one click thread that is stickied in development that works great. I have used it 6 times now and have had no issues. It doesn't always work the first time but usually does the second. it will give you a "tampered" banner on your bootloader but that goes away if you RUU back to stock. It absolutely does work on the latest software (1.85).
Here's the thread- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709424
For removal of bloatware, use Titanium Backup. Been using it for 3 years, and I swear by it. When you select an item for deletion, back it up first just in case.
Here- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup
Use these two things, I promise you won't get screwed. I'm sorry for yelling.

a little pointed, but true.. i remember my first post here on xda and I was labelled as a noob for asking a question. some people are just too sensitive for these type of forums. To op, if you cannot handle the "heat" I would tell you what I was told back then: "xda is for people who want to tinker with their phone, or for those interested in learning how to do so and contribute to the community. If that's not you, go to a much more general forum like android central." Now, you can bash me like you did to that guy who was just joking, or you can take what I said for what it means and run with it. Read up, that will do wonders for you.

Well, it's my laptop, and I have to use virtualbox to get winderz. So, it was probably something related to that.
Anyway, I swapped it from a usb2 port to a usb3 port.
Yeah on a desktop it can matter. I have yet to see an explanation of the difference between ports on the front and back, and why adb will refuse to work with some/most front ports. Just seems to be that way.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
So I'm on my fourth or fifth try, still "no update available."
Edit: Ok, tried it 7+ times, how can I eliminate winderz? Is this exploit using a patched adb?
Hey people, i got a nice suggestion for everyone who has think about unlocking their cell phones via online services. A couple days ago i had an issue with a Samsung ExhibitII i have in here that i needed to unlock. Since theres no software exploit to do that i thought about imei unlocking but it was kind of expensive(it was not that much after what happened). I found a member in here saying that he could unlock the device.
The price was great, so i decided to give it a try. He asked me to install team viewer and usb redirector(Yes, i know stupid mistake) but since he sounded like he was a real deal i did it. Cell phone was not unlocked, and now my computer has a VIRUS. A very bad one in fact, this morning i was going to start adb to check an i9000 im dealing with and to my surprise when i tried to open the command prompt my laptop restarted!!! ! I knew what was going on, but then again, i have so many important files on my computer right now and so many firmwares and stuff that its not a good idea to restore it to factory.
I cant say that it was him, not yet! But before i tried that. Everything was working very clean on my laptop so you guys do the math!!! On top of that, i had an email saying that they received my message about the money i paid with Paypal to the guy. Duuuhhhhhh!!! I sent money to him, but not a message!!!!! Hum, too many scammers! And i know this is no one else fault but mine!!! I made the mistake and trusted someone on the internet to access my laptop. Now i have to pay the price for that mistake. SO PLEASE BE AWARE OF THAT AND DONT TRUST PEOPLE AROUND THE NET FOR DOING SUCH A SERVICE BECAUSE YOU WILL BE EXPOSED TO THINGS LIKE THAT!!!
You f'd up.

Avast boot/usb scan and cleaning. Good luck.
You can boot a live linux system like ubuntu and copy away all your important files.
After doing that you can format your hdd and install windows or what every new. If you havent a real Windows CD you should install the RecoveryDVD one of this two you must - or ask your PC-Maker.
In my view its the only way to have a "clean" system again.
If the PC still works, You can copy all your files to a external HDD.

Good point! Good luck enelyam
THIS GUIDE IS FOR ANYONE WITH A GALAXY SERIES PHONE WHO BELIEVES THEIR DEVICE IS "BRICKED," IN A NON-WORKING STATE, IN A BOOTLOOP (CAN'T GET PAST SPLASH SCREEN,) OR WITH A STUCK POWER BUTTON
In no way am I a connoisseur of these android devices, but look around on the forum, I couldn't find any guide for anyone with a bricked phone, or at least for my device, so I'm all you've got.
I'll list the steps that I took in order. My device wasn't bricked after all, it was just the power button, and I'll cover that later.
STEP 1: Stay calm. I was pissed when I thought my device was bricked, but you need to be careful, they aren't literal bricks and they can't take too much of a beating. I emphasize on too much because these devices are quite durable, but don't throw yours through the living room wall because it wont turn on for you. If your device is easily repairable and you break it in a rage fit, whose fault is it then? Keep calm and continue with this guide.
STEP 2: MAKE SURE YOUR POWER BUTTON ISN'T STUCK! DO NOT continue past STEP 2 until you've tried everything to make sure its not the power button. IF, and ONLY IF, you've spent about 30 minutes wiggling that little bastard and cleaning it thoroughly can you continue to the next step. If you haven't tried anything yet, then I'll begin. You're gonna start by taking your device, facing the side with the power button downwards, and gently, but not very gently, tapping it on a table, your hand, something to get your power button unstuck. Tap it on something for about 30 second intervals, trying to turn your phone on in between intervals. If you've done this about 10 - 15 times, then let's move on. We're gonna try what fixed my phone. If there's a possibility that it's still the power button being stuck that's keeping your device from booting, it's gonna be the next thing I talk about. Something is in your button. A sticky substance, I should say. You've gotta clean it out thoroughly, and I have two ways that will work.
Method 1: Go purchase yourself a can of keyboard dust-off spray. Stuff comes in handy for a lot of electronic applications, and it fixed my device, so I'm grateful. Anyway, you're gonna take your can of dust-off spray, and spray it towards the power button on your device, trying your best to get most of the spray in the gaps around the button. Do that for 30 second intervals, powering on in between, etc etc. If that hasn't worked, there's two things you can do. Continue with this method further, or move on to method 2. Continuing with Method 1 requires a knowledge of electronics. You're gonna have to open up your device, by removing all the screws showing under the battery cover. IF YOU'VE NEVER OPENED YOUR DEVICE BEFORE, LOOK UP A GUIDE ON YOUTUBE. I can't really show you a visual, so look for a youtube video on how to disassemble your device. Once you have pried open your device, check out the little white button where the power button lays over. Is there anything sticky on or around it? If so, CAREFULLY scrape it off with a needle or a razor blade CAREFULLY. If there isn't anything sticky on it, spray some more of your dust-off into the small white button. Don't worry if it looks like the spray is turning into liquid on contact with your device, the liquid will vaporize almost instantly. After you've sprayed a decent amount into the button's area, take your battery, and hold it in the position it would be in your device, parallel with the rest of your phone, and touching the contacts. Once you're holding the battery securely to the contacts with one hand, take a pen or your fingernail and press the small white button with the other hand. Does it turn on, and if so, does it get past the boot loop? If you've gotten past the boot loop like I did at this step, then congratulations, you've saved a bunch of money on phone insurance! If your device isn't turning on at this step, and it was turning on beforehand, your battery isn't all the way touching the contacts, or you've disconnected a flex cable. Check for both of those things. If its not either, then you've probably broken your device when you opened it, which isn't my fault. If you're still at a boot loop, try some more spraying and repeat the steps. If you've done this a couple times, and it's still boot looping, continue to method 2, or go on to step 3.
Method 2: Open your device how I explained in the last method. Get rubbing alcohol, and a Q-tip or a toothpick. Dip your applicator into the alcohol, and apply generously to the white button where the power button overlays and surrounding areas. Let it air-dry, or blow it all out, then take your battery, and hold it in the position it would be in your device, parallel with the rest of your phone, and touching the contacts. Once you're holding the battery securely to the contacts with one hand, take a pen or your fingernail and press the small white button with the other hand. Does it turn on, and if so, does it get past the boot loop? If it doesn't turn on after this method, and it was turning on prior, check to see if the battery is all the way in, and check if you disconnected any flex cables when you opened your device. If its not those two things, you've probably broken your device when you opened it, good job. If you got past the boot loop. congratz, you never had a bricked device. I made the same misinterpretation. If it's still boot looping, try this method 2 or 3 more times before continuing.
IF NEITHER OF THE TWO METHODS FOR STUCK POWER BUTTON WORKED, YOUR DEVICE IS PROBABLY BRICKED. MOVE ON TO STEP 3.
STEP 3: Step 3 is just about where I bid you ado. You have a bricked device, and I'm quite sorry for your loss. You have a couple of options at this point.
OPTION A: SEE IF YOU CAN GET YOUR DEVICE IN DOWNLOAD MODE. If you can't get it in download mode, then I'm sorry. If you got it in download mode, YOU MIGHT BE SAVED. I couldn't keep mine in download mode for more than 2 seconds. Once she's in download mode, start up Odin, and boot your stock ROM. NOT CYANOGEN, NOT A CUSTOM ROM, get your stock ROM on the phone ASAP. If you can't get this option to work, move on to the next options.
OPTION B: Take your phone to [insert service provider here] and check if she's under warranty. You better hope, since the other options aren't very bright/cheap. If she's not under warranty, or they're gonna charge you over 100 dollars to replace her, then try some other options.
OPTION C: Get the USB dongle. It'll be your lord and savior if it keeps your device in download mode. Purchase one of these either way, they're dirt cheap and useful as hell. Once she's in download mode through the dongle, connect to your PC, start up Odin, and BOOT YOUR STOCK ROM. NO CUSTOM ROMS. Google your device's stock ROM, download and install it. If the dongle did you no good, then go to option D.
OPTION D: JTAG device wipe. That doesn't even sound healthy, does it? Think of it as open heart surgery for your device, but its a lot safer. Go to bricked my phone . com (I can't post links) they will unbrick your device for a short fee, and it'll be good as new. These are just about your only options. I went to multiple phone repair stores and they denied me service based on the fact they thought my phone was bricked, and mine wasn't even bricked. Get it JTAG unbricked, and you're good to go.
If this guide helped you in any way, there's no need to thank me. Thank a good sum of the community for attracting me to this site, as well as not putting up a guide for unbricking SGH-i727, motivating me to do one. If your device was broken due to my guide, not my fault. You're either a noob at electronics, or you opened your device with a hammer and nails. Thank you xda community for everything you've helped me with device-wise, I'm returning the favor.

good post but if you did search you could of found your answer, below is from from the q&a sticky
30) Q. my phone only vibrates, is it hard bricked
A. no, if it has any signs of life its not hardbricked, if you can get it into download mode and install stock firmware, howto HERE , if you cant it might be a sticky power button, read Q#32 and #33
31) Q. will a usb jig unbrick my skyrocket
A. no, only jtag repair will fix a hardbricked phone that has no signs of life, look HERE in the info section for a company
no signs of life(nsol)=hardbricked
32) Q. why does my phone bootloop every few seconds
A. could be a "sticky power button", read the next question and the info section in the 1STOP STICKY
33) Q. how do i test for a stuck "sticky" power button
A. test: remove then reinsert the battery and if the phone turns on by itself and then takes approx 10 sec's to turn off and vibrate then its for sure a power button problem, its stuck, goto the link in the previous answer for a possible fix

The issue being you said the info isn't out there we say otherwise. The guide is not the issue the issue is the level of disregard for the rules in the first place rule number 1 which is search. Had you followed you would have seen you are far from the first to brick nor are you the first to receive answers on the subject. I applaud the effort but again had you followed the rules from the start it never would have been necessary.
Edit: please remove any and all profanities from your posts or I will be forced to report as it is in violation of xda rules.
Edit2: this guide really only covers power button issues so your title is misleading. Also the dongle aka jig does not work for fixing anything on the skyrocket if it puts it in DL mode that means you could do it normally anyway without it. Also if you have access to DL mode its unlikely you will not have access to your recovery partition as such you could just flash a new ROM. Really about 90% of the info is power button stuff the other 10% is either incomplete or incorrect.

First, that comment you quoted want't directed at you. Second, I can appreciate your wanting to help but this info has been covered a lot. And, no offense, but that so called guide basically says:
Clean your power button. If that doesn't work I can't help you any further.
As far as everyone being a noob at some point you're right. It's how I came here for the first time a little over two years ago. I soft bricked my SGS 4G. I looked around the forums and found all the info I needed to fix it. I never posted a single question asking for help. Then I realized all the other things I could do and started to get involved. first off, everyone was a noob at one point. thats undeniable. and second, im not here to defend noobs. im here to defend every person who comes on here having not the slightest idea what to do with their could-be-bricked device, and they end up getting ripped on for not knowing what to do, or for asking a stupid question. do you honestly think everyone who buys an android knows everything about it down to its core? it literally makes me laugh, the incompetence of some people on here. im not even looking for arguements though, just trying to prove a point, and id like to make that clear to everybody on here.
