Family accounts still broken in TnT Lite 5.0.0 - G Tablet General

Reported but not fixed here and by me here.
Summary, went from stock to TnT Lite 4.2.0 then up to 4.2.5 yesterday. Attempting to create a new family account causes a force close. Performed a wipe and reflash but the issue persisted. Saw 5.0.0, seeing it was a major update I performed a factory wipe and loaded per instructions. Device hung as per instructions requiring a second wipe through recovery. This worked and booted up. Family accounts force close issue persists.
Also performed the suggested RM permissions fix.

Just a guess, but this functionality relies on the Contacts.apk, which TNT Lite replaces. Perhaps the Google stock replacement needs to be removed for you.
I honestly don't use this functionality, so I would consider it broken / unusable in TNTL. You could actually try a customized ROM - it's not that hard to do. In your case, all you'd want to do is remove the two Contacts apks in any TNTL ZIP (it's in /system/app in the ROM) and reflash. That could fix your issue - again, just a guess.

i can confirm that it worked for me in tnt lite 4.25 when i erased contacts from /system/app in the zip!

This also worked for 5.0.0

TnT 5.0
I installed Tnt lite 5.0.0 on a new G tab after getting viewsonic's over the air ROM upgrade and everything works fine.
I've never owned an Android device before, and I'm not a hacker. I cant believe how easy TnT lite 5.0 was to install and how great the G tab is with this installed. Thanks to Roebeet and everyone else who worked on this!

Robeet,
You mentioned 2 contacts.apks in any TNTL ZIP (it's in /system/app in the ROM), but when I open the ZIP I see only one. What am I missing?
Thanks

Misnamed apps? Wrong versions? Fix here

Taking some advice I saw on the BAW forum one step further, I deleted the entire /data/boot-cache directory (after doing a nandroid backup of course).
Took about 3-4 extra minutes to boot up, presumably to recreate the contents of the directory, but now all of my apps are showing the correct version, correct icon, and correct name. Haven't run into any issues yet.
I didn't want to suggest this just in case something else would mess up. If you have a lot of bad apps this is perhaps faster than deleting each one.

Hey there you are! Hah.
I did have a lot of bad apps and had some trouble finding the proper directories for a few. I had just done a backup so I thought I'd give it a try.
I also figured this was the perfect place to suggest it for people to try - around here people are smart enough to do real backups before they start deleting things
Is this with just rooting the phone or after you install the custom rom?

I haven't touched the custom ROM yet. You do need to root the phone to do this, and it must be done from a shell.

It should, yes. I had a bunch of apps misnamed in that way (EasyMoney, Spades, a few others) and it fixed them.
One of them, Buka Lite, reverted back, though.
I tried this out and all the programs I'd been having issues with were fixed. I rebooted. Still fixed.
But then I installed three updates and after reboot, the same issue came back again. There must be another cache store somewhere...maybe Android Market related, or at least the Android package manager. Either way, I guess some more digging is in order.

I think there's just a bug with the way the phone handles the cache. Did the versions go back to what they were before you deleted the cache, or what they were after you deleted the cache and before you updated the apps?
Looks like the versions didn't revert. Last night, I used aTrackDog to send myself a list of all my apps. I can't remember the three that I updated today, but the two I do remember, Flixster Movies and Handcent did not revert.
Lastnight:
Movies,2.0.1
Handcent Sms,2.9.12
Now:
Movies,2.1.0
Handcent Sms,2.9.13
Well, I decided to remove Dolphin browser since I noticed it kept opening up and running in the background (active, at least that's what Taskiller says). Of course, the next reboot caused all the icons to get messed up again.
So, I thought to look for other cache directories. Does anyone think that deleting /data/dalvik-cache in addition to the /data/boot-cache directory might help? Is it safe to try it out? I'm assuming it'll just get repopulated automatically.

After you install any updates you will have to continue to remove the /data/boot-cache version until HTC/Sprint fixes the bug.

Would uninstalling the original, then installing the newest version alleviate the issue? As opposed to just update the app...

Nope. I even tried uninstalling, rebooting twice, then installing again. Reverted on next boot.

Damn. It sounded good in theory.
I had this issue with Google Sky Maps and it worked to let me back in. What was displaying after a day or so renamed itself to 'End User License Agreement' and wouldn't let me get past the EULA screen, only offering the option to force close.
The only caveat is that now Sky Maps is still named 'End User License Agreement', but it at least let's me in.
Odd
I tried removing both boot-cache and dalvik-cache. Didn't make any difference...eventually, the errors return if/when you update or install an app.
this must be a bug with the hero. i had the Moment and no apps renamed themselves at all. reset after reset the apps were fine. i reset my hero once and it messes up the apps
Doh! Doesn't seem like there's any easy perm fix in sight... hope it doesn't happen w/ 2.0 and Sense...

12/18/2009 [UNOFFICIAL] v1.3a - CDMA MoDaCo ROM 1.3

THIS ROM HAS NOW BEEN SUPERCEEDED BY MODACO ROM 2.0. I WILL NO LONGER BE PROVIDING UPDATES/SUPPORT FOR THIS ROM.
12/18/09 Update
Here is my most recent version of the updated MoDaCo rom. I have fixed the version display info.
This rom should be safe to upgrade from stock or MoDaCo 1.1 roms.
If you experience force closures the issue is with your dalvik-cache or your boot-cache.
You can clear your dalvik cache from the recovery mode. Do not do a factory wipe. Choose the dalvik-cache wipe/clear.
You can clear your boot-cache from adb as a temporary fix by typing:
rm -r /data/boot-cache
reboot
Changelog:
1.3a:
-rebuilt properties file
-shuffled some apk's around
1.3:
-no longer requires wipe to install/upgrade
-fixed ssh password in about screen
-fixed version info to show correctly
-all market apps should show correctly
-updated to busybox without color codes (this is for the windows users using adb shell)
-upgraded to latest relase of wifi tether
-minor performance tweaks and optimizations
-minor interface tweaks (new lockscreen animations)
1.2c:
fixed issue with protected apps not showing up in market
reverted displayed version # in phone settings (sprint update is still there though)
1.2b:
fixed builld/version info
fixed force close issues for people who upgrade from MoDaCo 1.1
1.2a:
manually patched Sprint Maintenance Release to MoDaCo 1.1 rom.
Get 1.3 here.
Install from the recovery console. No wipe should be necessary!
Please post here if you have problems.
Just flashed from 1.1, getting a bunch of force close messages on boot can't use internet, software version 1.29 so no update, don't know if I should've flashed from stock but thought id try from 1.1.
I'll look into it later right now I need sleep. FYI I updated from a stock patched Rom freshly rooted. You may need to do a wipe for it to work properly. Also i hand copied the individual patched files into the modaco 1.1 to make this work. I am new to this so I do not know how to update the version # by hand editing yet.
getting a bunch of force close messages also, plus it lags pretty much
dunno why but i tried it,thx anyway..time to flash again .
Is the bluetooth audio streaming working?
works great nice job man
i would also like to know if you can play media via bluetooth speakers on this ROM...all ROMs w/ the MR update don't seem to be able to do it, but the Sprint MR update w/ no custom ROM installed can
I got a bunch of force closes when it booted up. I also noticed the browser and some google apps will no longer open and just force close.
mine works perfect
Works fine for me. I did revert back to stock before doing the update and reset my data to be sure.
The build number in the "about" screen is the old number, but things do seem to be updated to the new stuff anyway. To change the build number, I think you need to edit the /system/build.prop file.
Great work!
My force closures have healed themselves! Well, except for the "market" app but I bet I can uninstall/reinstall it.
Obelisk, hopefully this description of my steps helps in finding some answers...
Last night, before I saw obelisk's first few posts regarding his experiment, I had decided to bite the bullet and flash back to the stock Sprint RUU.
First I copied all of my app and app-private folders to my SD card. Then, I did a nandroid backup and then flashed the RUU. I let Sprint download and install the MR. Then I rooted and flashed the recovery image. This is when I found obelisk's posts and decided to try it out. After I flashed his "unofficial" update I booted up and then rebooted (it stated "reboot required" in the menu\settings\about phone\build number after "MoDaCo Custom ROM"). At that point everything was working fine. No force closures, phone was sleeping correctly, I had mute and speaker phone buttons in the call screen, etc...
I decided to copy my apps back, restore my nandroid backup (even though I knew this would undo everything I had just done) and then reflash obelisk's updated modaco again. After doing that I rebooted and got a ton of force close errors. I just closed them all and went to bed!
HERE"S THE WEIRD PART! I woke up this morning and the only force close I'm getting now is with the market app (and ONLY if I try to open it). All my other restored apps are working fine. I am about to go to work but I will play around with this some more. I'm keeping it for now!
I just rebooted and all of the force close errors came back. I guess I'm going to go back to my original pre-MR nandroid backup.
i think the problem is related to the software version number which i haven't figured out how to update yet, so a lot of the apps, and yes there were about 20, that were patched in the maintenance release don't get updated properly until i increment the rom version somehow. i'll mess with it tonight when i get home from work.
did a fresh ruu, and updated this custom rom over a rooted stock, did a factory reset after the install and absolutely no issues.... A+ job buddy

How do you go about doing a fresh ruu?
I'm going off of memory here but...
1. download the sprint RUU
2. install HTC Sync on your pc if you have not already done so
3. connect your phone to your computer
4. run RUU (it's an executable file)
5. Follow prompts
6. Reboot phone into stock un-rooted goodness/badness depending on your opinion.

EDIT: Sorry, I just noticed that's a different error.
Great Rom
I came from a rooted stock Rom wither the Mr update...wiped, flashed...apps2sd, then reboot. Worked flawlessly! I also added the extras from another Rom and everything is running fine. Great work on this..
are you getting error code 107 or 170? google provides no help for error code 107...

Rom Manager Killed my G-Tablet

I downloaded Rom Manager thinking it would help with Udated TNT-Lite roms. To my suprise it killed my tablet. Now I have to start all over again. Can some one tell me if I have to rebuy all of my work apps, I.E. -Touchdown, Quick Office.

You won't have to rebuy your apps. They are attached to your Google account not your device. DON'T USE ROM MANAGER TO FLASH ROMS. It doesn't play nice with our tablets. In Rom Manager if you scroll to the bottom of the first page then you can flash an alternate recovery. The bekit 0.8. You can download with Rom Manager just don't flash roms or flash the current recovery
Thanks, I am going to Flash the Updated TNT. 4.1 and see how that runs. But when I flashed my original tnt 2.2 the most of the market was gone. Do I need to do the market fix again. It is still in my .apk folder
You will probably need to do the market fix again and I would wipe/data cache if you coming from 2.2 to 4

[Q] I'm confused: Subject line says: Vegan 5.1.1 update w/supliment...

Later down the page it says: "this is a supplement only!
Which is it? Full version with supplement built in (as subject line indicates) or ONLY supplement?
My wife and I installed 5.1 last week and everything was fine until today. Now we get that "process.android.acore" stopped working error message.
Don't know what to do to fix it.
She has no Gmail imports or need to sync. All she does is download free apps and play games.
This is why we are considering reinstalling.
We have root and have CWM installed as well as done full backups with Titanium Backup.
Any help and/or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Nope, not a full version. Taken from the actual thread: " This is a supplement, not a full firmware. You would run this like any other update.zip, but since the changes are small you shouldn't have to wipe data. You'd want beta 5.1 as your baseline, before running this, download link is further below for the full install of beta 5.1.".
This supplement does not seem to address your issues. Have you followed the instructions carefully and read up on some of the fixes in the forum? There's so much to read and I suggest you do that. Either way, I would back everything up, wipe it all and restore (just dont restore system data).

4349 with market

installed 4349 today....had some minimal trouble with this hack when installing mybackup pro images but works fine besides. anyways i wanted market and the other gapps on a stock rom with zero other changes. ie ota still works etc...
1. save the update.zip to your root drive on your gtablet
2. turn off then reboot pressing the power and volume-up key
3. choose wipe data/factory reset (must do or the next step will not work properly)
4. after it completes choose apply internal update.zip
5. reboot, allow android to stablize
6. run market (apps will show up but the following steps make sure more do)
7. run android settings-> applications -> system applications -> market
stop market
8. run android settings-> applications -> system applications ->google services frame work
clear data then force stop
9. reboot and your market should be fully functional.
link for to gapps on cyanogens site, remember to rename it as update.zip before saving to your gtab http://android.d3xt3r01.tk/cyanogen/gapps/gapps-mdpi-tegra-20101020-signed.zip
Thanks for taking the plunge. I'll give this a shot tonight when I get home and report back.
After I installed 4349 and booted up I took your linked file, renamed it update.zip, and rebooted the tab into recovery. I just flashed it and didn't do anything else. After the tablet rebooted I skipped some of the setup screens for Google framework and when I ran market it started to update apps automatically. So it worked without doing steps 3,7,8 & 9 for me, although updating Angry Birds from market made the tablet quick reboot... Which was fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling. Everything else works ok.
times i tried to skip step 3 the gapps package would not install properly. it would stop early on the install progress bar and no market or any other apps showed up on reboot. as for steps 7,8,9 those are market fix steps...few apps were missing and those are needed to get them to show up. though the default market is much much fuller then previous hacks. would love to know if anyone else has any other issues similar to mine or not.
also has anyone got myback pro working on 4349. i can install it from market but as soon as i restore any of my programs my reboot-up freezes on the tnt logo. only cure is to nvflash and reinstall.
Tried this a few times with a fresh 4339 installed, followed the steps exactly, but never get the google apps to show up. Oddly, during the install of the update.zip, the tablet resets, and boots normally. I expected to be returned to recovery after installing the update.zip
i have done the fix several times now with the same needs step wise and results...mainly cause i am trying to figure out mybackup pro cause it keeps borking by device and i have to nvflash and start over. turbo you did all the steps and didn't get the gapps package working? make sure your stock 4349 other wise the bluish CWM like thing isn't there to load update.zip's. otherwise i am at a loss? anyone else having trouble?
I an ran through all the steps up to 6.... but now there is no Market app.
I checked the update zip that was on my root (/sdcard is what I assume you mean by root as there is where the other update.zip is, though I initially assumed you meant / as the root) and it is the one that was downloaded from here.
What am I missing? It seems to be it installed the basic 4349
the only way i get those results you speak of is when i omit step 3. are you rebooting between as i am not.
I did step 3 as I had to run through the setup again.
I did not reboot in between step 3 and step 4.
should this work if i installed clockwork after the update?
I just went through it again, step by step, and it did the exact same thing. No Market.
Just to clarify, when I hit apply internal update.zip, the gTab reboots for me. In your instructions you say reboot. When mine boots it takes me into the first time user setup for the gTab, which is UELA, timezone, wireless, username then into the Non-Classic (not sure what it is called, but the one with the weather, news, etc) UI.
haven't used cwm with 4349 as i heard it crashes it though a very similar interface is built into this stock rom.

Yes, followed all steps, from a completely stock 4349 (with the 4349 recovery), and no gapps installed.

if you have done the steps exactly i am not sure what to tell you. and yes it should reboot itself. i have tried the fix a dozen times with no issues so i am not sure what it is your doing differant if anything at all. as of right now i can't reproduce anymore results on 4349 as its not showing up on the OTA anymore as my mybackup pro borked me into yet another install. is 4349 still showing up for other people?

Can you verify that when you say root you mean /sdcard/?
Outside of the Market is there any way to tell if it did it right, like some file someplace? I checked the /system/app folder and it has none of the apps that were in your update.zip in the app folder, does this mean anything?
I renamed my old update.zip to update_old.zip, could this cause a problem?
yes the root drive i spoke of is /sdcard. i do not think your renamed file should cause a conflict though you might try deleting it and see. again the only time i had this trouble was when i didn't do a factory wipe first...every other time it has worked but i don't know if their is some trouble with 4349 as it seems to have been pulled from the OTA in the last half hour. can anyone else confirm the OTA now set back to 3588?
I deleted update_old.zip, and no dice.
If you come up with some troubleshooting steps I am happy to try them.

Don't apply Clockwork .08, you will soft brick your tab.
Well I applied the gapps using clockworkmod from roebeet for 1.2 bootloaders and everything flashed fine. Running the latest version so I dunno.
