I have rooted captivate running default ATT os eclair android.
I am unable to get it to connect to wifi hotspot (adhoc, open) in my laptop. HTC G1 connects fine to it. I just do not understand why captivate cannot connect.
So to install apk I tried sdcard route but says blocked. In Application menu I do not see any option to allow unknown sources like I see in HTC G1 which is running cyanogenmod.
since wifi does not work I cannot install using market. since unknown sources is not an option available in phone menu I cannot install either.
any alternatives ?
1) should install another rom like cyanogenmod ?

Hi,
sideloading itself needs installing apk. I have issue in first place that of phone not letting install from sdcard due to it not being from Android Market and wifi does not connect me to my local home hotspot.
do I need to have some sim in phone to get wifi to work ? I have been trying without having sim in phone since I know my sim is not ATT and the phone is locked currently to ATT and that unlocking is what I am trying to get done.

You need Superoneclick. It will root your phone, and it will also change the settings to allow for 3rd party apps.

I have enabled too "install unknow apps" or something like this.
Here's what i did to my zenfone
i create a file sysctl.conf and put it on system/etc

after that i install Xposed installer, Xprivacy and Fake Wifi Connection. its all in xposed installer
then after that i realize im connected to a wifi but no internet.. tried with 4 different wifi same result no internet. my other phone can connect and has internet access but my zenfone dont have internet even when connected to wifi. Sometimes i can browse but after 1 minute no internet. then i have this error on Google play When downloading
Update for "Google Talkback" could not be downloaded due to an error.
(Error retrieving information from server. [RPC:S-7:AEC-7]).. all my updates are with the same error.
i tried flashing using SD Download on droidboot but it didnt fix then i update to latest firmware still it didnt fix my problem..

since the last update to Cyanogen OS >>12.0-YNG1TAS17L<< i cannot connect to my hidden wifi anymore. This was an official OTA Update, but I've been using some special apps (with root), so i thought there could be some interference. After installing the update-zip again (which was still on the internal storage) I had to recognize the problem is still there.
Would someone please look at the log-file? I can't figure it out, why this problem occurs, connecting to a visible network works without problems.
Or maybe some other hints?

I have my android box that is very restricted, I cant add any apk, I cant even add a google account it just crashes, File browser is not available EVEN internet browser, only four applications showing: ATN iptv, Dev Tools, Music, Download (which is empty), and Settings. I can reset the device to factory but it will come back exactly the same. I can use toothpick button but it will give an image of (Android with error sign) then will continue as normal to home screen. it run jelly bean firmware. 4.2.2 build number ATN-1.0.6 2016-09-26 242441.
What can I do now? I need to be able to add any apk package I like, when I connect USB stick nothing happens...

Does debug usb work? Or something like Fastboot/ADB?
I connected the box to the computer with USB cable (both ends the same) but nothing happened. I wish it was as simple as PC, formating and re install Android OS lol.
not sure about Fastboot or ADB.
Unknown source option is ticked, but like I said nothing happens when I insert a USB. cant even download from net or open any browser.

I have samme ATNbox, (and others called atn gold/platinum) have you tried to use another android version on the box? I am facing same issue, can´t add any app or change Android version.

I have an Androide box named ISatPlus, I was subscribed to iptv in 2015 but not anymore.
The box has received an update from ATN and now am not able to install KODI or any other application. The system keep deleting all new application I install.
I cant even install new firmware it fails after few sconds. Anyone can help or suggest a solution?
The CPU is a dual core ARM Cortex-A7, and the platform is BIGFISH???

this is an old thread, however, if anyone still interested in reprogramming "most" of the ATN boxes, there is a way to customize it and make it a basic android box which you can use normally with any app, however most ATN receivers are very old and not compatible with newer versions of android, only android 4.x.x depending on the box you have
