Sorry don't have the rights to post in dev. Just flashed TNT Lite 5.0. I was running on 3588 stock, with enhancement and the upgrade went without issue. Had the hang on the first reboot, but a data wipe solved that. Did market fix and all my apps showed back up. New recovery is sweet and love the lock screen. One thing I am slightly disappointed with is the quadrant score. My stock 3588 with enhancement came in at 1800+. Only getting 1600+ with 5.0. I expected much better. I assume maybe since this is a first release that there will be some tweeks made to improve performance. Nice job overall.
I too just flashed 5.0.0, no problems. Quandrant score: 2225.

Did you install right over 3588 with the enhancement pack? HOw did you do a data wipe after. Clockwork?
I did install on top of 3588 with enhancement. After install a new recovery gets installed, looks very similar to clockwork. You do a wipe of data in there.

2100-2400 should be normal for TNTL 5, at least going on my tests. Nenamark scores are 44-45 fps, which is higher than TNTL 4.
Thanks Roebeet. I did it again later after a reboot and got around 2000. Nice work on this.
My quadrant says 1595
That was after using task killer.
Mark
I'm still running TNTL 5.0 (at the moment) -- Quadrant score was 2340, just now.
1500-1600 is definitely way too low.
Does TNT Lite 5.0 support ad-hoc wireless? Trying to connect to my network at work and was using ICS on my PC with ad-hoc wireless. Can't get an ip address. My work wireless uses leap which in know tnt doesn't have.

It has the same ad-hoc as previous versions (same supplicant binary was added).
Installed last night, used the stock update.zip, then applied the TnT 5 zip, and everything went smoothly.
Quadrant score of 2075 after a reboot.
I am getting between 1665 and 1675 on quadrant and this is after a couple of reboots. I must be missing something here.
Got a PM with a suggestion on the low Quadrant scores
(thanks Version_3! - this came from that user)
Version_3 had the same problem, low scores. In that user's case, SetCPU was the culprit. SetCPU was uninstalled, Quadrant re-tried and the scores were back up.

Just to clarify, SetCPU was having an adverse effect on my Quadrant scores after flashing this ROM. I was in the 1600's, the CPU tests within Quadrant were not running. After uninstalling it, I was again up to ~2200.
While this may not be your issue, please do scrutinize your installed apps to make sure they are not negatively impacting the ROM.
When I run Quadrant, I notice the CPU portion says and stays at 0/12. I also get service fails at the end most of the time. Aimittedely I don't know anything about Quadrant other than reading here and running it to get the score.
Should I be changing a setting somewhere to get an accurate score? I posted this morning saying I am getting 1595.
I will say, though, this ROM is pretty zippy from a "seat of the pants" point of view.
Thanks Roebeet!!

That's the exact same symptoms I encountered while I had SetCPU on my gtab. Are you running any kind of CPU speed app or widget? Also, try going into settings and doing a Stop on Quadrant, then clear data. Try the bench again. Finally, make sure you have an active and stable network connection, as a service call failed appears to be a problem in sending your benchmark results.
WPA2 Connectivity? Couple Other Questions...
Hello all, I'm Robert and could not be happier to have joined this forum!
First off, I must say I have fallen in love with my gtab (picked it up last week) and have found my new addiction (which is great but also a HUGE distraction towards my studies ).
This is my first tablet pc, I have ~15 years experience with building/modifying/repairing OEM/aftermarket desktop/laptop systems, as well as ~5 years experience in programming (C++, C#, Java mainly) so I am no stranger with working in/on hardware/software.
roebeet, I have read (or atleast I think I have) practically every post you have written and I just want to say AMAZING work on your newest edition. Followed directions promptly, and first time went without a hitch. Quadrant score of 2349 average (5 runs) without adding nodda, besides Quadrant obviously so excellent job!
Now, sorry for my quick bio, on to my question....
Before I was running Vegan 5.11, experimental tegra driver, and dataloop. Since the wifi signal on my tab doesnt pick up signals as well as I want it to (anal about it you could say) I'll have it hooked up through my laptop via software called Connectify. I do this cause I have an external wifi (Alfa, 2000mw) that maxes out my connection no matter where I am. Then through Connectify, I create my ad-hoc and connect via wpa2.
Now the curious thing...
In your 5.0 I can connect to my network no problem, shows its connected, shows full bars, but thats where it ends. Essentially its shows I'm connected but I'm unable to do anything requiring a connection. Any suggestions would be great!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EDIT:
WPA2 is working promptly now, figured the issue had to be originating from my software, re-did my setup and connected right away!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Also, while I have ya here reading this post, would I still be able to do the dataloop and tegra driver tweaks on this ROM? Only asking cuz my Quadrant scores before were <3500 and everything seemed a little more responsive. I understand the tegra 2 is already fast, why try to make it faster etc etc (I've read the posts), but if youre like me with years of overclocking (i7 920 ~ 4.5 HT, OCZ 1600 12gb, 3x480GTX, all liquid cooled using EXOS) you gotta understand where I'm coming from. When it comes to computers (atleast hardware) if I'm not getting every last drop of performance and utilization out of my set up, whats the point?
Sorry for the long post, but its my first here. I love your work and all of the developers here who spend day and night, countless hours working on these works of art for merely the recognition and satisfaction and I can't wait to be constantly distracted for months to come with the gtab!!
PS. I am not an idiot, I don't try experimental things that could possibly do ANYTHING detrimental to my hardware, I do my research almost excessively and I know exactly what I'm getting myself into. (Just felt I had to throw this in here, from all the threads I've read of others trying things when clearly lacking the knowledge)
TntLite 4.2.5 => 5.0.0 successful
(Not allowed to post in development so posting here instead). I just wanted to report that I had success with the 5.0.0 ROM. Quadrant score is 2218, and in general, it feels snappy.
I also wanted to add a bit more detail to the upgrade procedure. I used and modified the following process from thongtap from the development thread:
Steps:
- Copy stock rom 3588 zip file to internal memory. This file (from Viewsonic and referenced by the first post in the TnTLite 5.0.0 development thread) was named "update-smb_a1002-3588-user.zip", and I put it on my internal SDCARD. I store all my ROM files in a directory called "ROMs" and I just left the file named as is.
- Reboot to CMW and wipe the data.
- Then install the stock rom. From the CWM menu, i selected install from directory and I picked the 3588 zip file from my ROMs directory.
- Boot to TnT 3588. I paused here and went to check that 3588 was actually installed by checking that tablet information in the settings.
- copy TnT Lite 5.0 zip and recovery folder to internal memory. I downloaded Roebeets 5.0.0 rar file (as referenced by the first post in the 5.0.0 tntLite development thread) and i opened it. I copied the recovery directory and the update.zip from the rar to the root directory of the SDCARD.
- Reboot to stock recovery mode to install 5.0 (same way with power + vol up)
- At this point, I saw the animation/icon that shows a box/package being unpacked and the android character. I waited here for a bit and I was tempted to reboot but I waited. Eventually, the tablet continued/rebooted itself and then it hung at a completely blank/black screen.
- Power it on again you should see the birds, g tablet screen, and then honeycomb boot animation for few minutes
- I then shut down again and I used the recovery power on (power + vol up) to boot into the recovery menu. I then did a clear data and I boot again
- Done
After playing with 5.0.0 for a while, I followed the market recovery procedure and everything looks good.
Hope this helps.

Sorry for the late reply - I post to a lot of threads and you can't believe how many emails I get from XDA on thread updates. It's insane. I gave up on trying to view them all and i generally stick to the TnT Lite thread.
Glad to hear that WPA2 is working for you.

I also wanted to say that functionally, 5.0.0 seems very similar to tntlite 4.2.5 which raises the question: is it worth it? Sure, it is a bit snappier but 4.2.5 seemed stable to me. I think if you are happy with 4.2.5 you might want to stay there until the direction of SW upgrades is firmed up from Viewsonic. As Roebeet says in the developer threads, Viewsonic could change their minds again and 6.0.0 could be another difficult upgrade.

I just got my first pocket pc in the mail yesterday. First off, I absolutely love it. I got the wizard - it was a very good price on ebay for the features, even if it is a couple years old (I think?). Regardless, it's a huge upgrade from a standard cell phone for a small price.
I've never used one before nor used windows mobile. It came with WM5 and I've managed to unlock and update it to WM6. I read somewhere that TNT.1437 was a stable release, so I installed TNT.1437 with TouchFlo. It seems fine, except I still get clocknot.exe notification every time I start (even after disabling auto update for time).
My main question is this - is TNT.1437 still a good release or is it getting old? If I remember correctly the thread hadn't had posts in a while. Is the newer TNT release near the top of the forum stable?
I am mainly looking for a stable release that won't mess up my calls. Even WM5 had huge improvements and features over my basic phone I had, so having the 'newest' software isn't really needed (although I don't mind it if it's stable).
Anyways, I'm just wondering if I should stick with 1437 or upgrade to something else before I start diving into it and installing my own apps and setting the phone up. If I do stick with it (or upgrade and still have the issue), is there a way to get rid of that clocknot.exe notification besides turning auto-update for time off, which doesn't seem to have worked? I also installed the trial version of memmaid as that was recommended in the same thread, it didn't find any notification issues.
Thanks in advance.
1st thing to remember is that it's not a smartphone. it's a pocket pc. Smartphone apps won't work on this (most at least) and vice versa although there are a few.
Smartphone's don't have touch screens.
My Experience
Here's the thread containing the latest TNT ROM and a lot of info on it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=367534
I'm using v1 of the last build and am having lockups on occation when the PDA is in standby. That said a lot of the posts indicate that sometimes you have to flash a rom several times or downgrade to a stock rom first before weird things go away. There was another post that suggested doing a soft reset followed by a hard reset after each rom is loaded to avoid rom instability problems. Also there was another post I read that said stability problems can be solved by using a specific utility (sorry name excapes me)that backs up the rom you just installed to your memory card and then reloading it from the memory card. None of this makes sense but I'm going to try these things if I can't get my lockup problem to go away with the latest build of TNT.
As for the notifications problem I fixed my through trial and error. Appearently there is a notifications queue or database that gets all screwed up. There are many tools out there (I used one called CheckNotifications) that let you fix the queue but in doing so you may break activesync and other automation. If found an app (FixASRunAt) that puts the neccessary entries back. I don't recall my exact procces for getting it working right but I do recall it took several passes at using both apps.
Good luck with your upgrade!
Welcome, I've had my wizard for two years flashed 5 or 6 roms, "its right" make good stable rom packed with useful software. I would suggest you read lots about any rom you install as if there are any problems its reported and usually fixed in rom thread.
If I might suggest Jaguar 4.0 rom, it is very stable and only a few programs leaving lots of space for you to test and add programs of your choice, you will want to try different programs. Some you stick with others will not be of use to you, the fun is in trying new things.
If you feel a little braver try the rom in my signature, I've had a few teething troubles but nothing major, anyway I can always change back.
Keep operator settings and instructions to hand, to make it easier when flashing, I also keep a list of installed apps so it is easier next time to remember what I use most often.
Finally welcome, there's now turning back now, it's addictive you know!
It most certainly is addictive.
Thanks for the tips thus far. I have one major question left - seeing as how there are so many ROMS out there, should I ever want to change to another one due to problems with the current one, or just to experience it, is there an easy way to keep program data and settings saved? There are certain third party programs that I would like to keep on the unit regardless of which ROM is running, so I'd like to be able to simply install them again and restore them to the state they were at with the previous ROM. I'm not sure how WM software works.
So far with TNT.1437 installed, I've just had a few problems, some of which may simply be the fact I'm new to WM and don't know what I am doing. It froze once or twice but that was it. It tends to run fine. The biggest issue I am wrestling with now is wifi connection. It always attempts to connect to previous wifi signals even when I am in a different location. If it would work as a laptop does (connect to a NEARBY wifi signal that you have provided a key for) then that would be great. But it keeps trying to connect to the campus network when I'm at my apartment, so I have to manually go in and figure out how to stop that and get it to connect to the apartment one here (out of like 10 options, which I only use one). Then I go to campus and I have the same issue and have to go in and make adjustments again. However, this is probably a WM issue and not a ROM problem.
As far as saving data or settings, I usually either back up the appropriate files to storage card or install to Storage card and just reinstall after hard reset. I don't think any back up utilities work if you change roms, but I'm sure some one will prove me wrong.
As for your second problem, I didn't even know it was one, so can't help you. Although thinking about it I've seen a program for assigning profiles to wifi connections or something along those lines, which is just what your looking for. Do a search. If I come across it will post a link for you.

Installing to a storage card seems like a good idea. When you install to a storage card, does it install the App there as well as data for the app? Do you even get a choice of where to do the install? Some files run as .exe on the desktop and then automatically install on the wizard. Others I have encountered have you copy a .cab file to the wizard and then just open it. Would you simply put the .cab file on the storage card and open from there? Is there a way to install via .exe to storage card?
I have a bunch of microSD cards around, so I'm waiting on a miniSD adapter to come in so I can actually use them with this phone. It will probably be easier to figure out once I have the adapter.
wow. ive had my wizard 5 months im still having problems understanding what i read about geting wm6 and touchflo. you experiance with do things allready?
Doesn't matter where you install from, when you get a storage card in, you are given a choice:- device or storage card.
Some don't like storage cards and after go on device memory, i.e. today plug ins. but its not written in stone, trial and error.
Thanks for all the help. It's a lot clearer than it was a few days ago now that I've played with installing some more.
My final question is this: I've learned how to install ROMS and search these forums for them (although I'm not sure on what each has to offer, as that will take some time). However, people mention when switching ROMs for whatever reason, the best thing to do is install an original ROM first, and then go on to whatever you want to install.
Where can I find the original ROMs for WM6? I've looked in the forums and did a search but didn't seem to come up with anything.
Would an original WM6 ROM work? Or would I need to flash back to a Cingular one with WM5 like it had when I first got it?
Anyways, just wondering about this. I imagine I just do it the same way I flashed the TNT ROM, but need to get a copy of the original ROM saved for future use.
Thanks.

Although the wizard was tested my MS with wm6, it was never released as stock. For stability, always flash your carrier rom before a new rom (wm5... you can get it at htc)
Octavio's roms have been the most stable for me. 6.3 with wm6.1 works great. Also check out www.pointui.com for another type of touch interface. I think you would like it.
Oh... and don't become like us. I flash the rom now more then i use it. Dang things addictive.
Alright. When you say I can get it from HTC, are you referring to this URL?
HTC Download
I just want to make sure I am saving the correct version to revert back to in between ROMS. The site doesn't really provide much description about what it is.
Edit: I tried to install the ROM from the URL above, but it gave an error and said I need a newer update utility. Not sure why...Anyways...Can anyone provide a link to where I can find the original ROM I should flash to between other ROMs? If it makes a difference, I have Cingular (AT&T) - originally had WM5 now it has TNT.1437 (WM6) and I went through steps for hardSPL if that makes a difference (IPL 2.21.0001 SPL 2.21.01ip) as seen on the wiki. Phone is a G4 and works fine other than a few bugs / freezes up on ocassion, but I'd like to try other ROMs
EDIT: The ROM above did work, but I had to remove the HardSPL I had added earlier. That must've been the problem. After removing it, I installed stock ROM without any trouble - time to try a new ROM!
Hello everyone,
I just recently bought a new G tablet and first thing im going to do is install clockworkmod. Then going to load a custom rom on it. Based on what i have read they two custom roms people mostly use. Vegan and Tnt Lite. Im trying to get feedback from people who have used both roms to get an idea which one is better with this tablet. Im looking for something that is fast and can play most games that are made for the tegra 2 processor. Flash has to work, Market has to work and something to edit word and excel document. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Also i know this device has a build in 16gb memory. When you flash a rom on it will it erase all your saved files like pics and documents? When i flash my driod 1 everything is on my external sd card but this is build in so not sure if you flash will it erase everything on the 16 gb internal memory? Let me know thx.
Gemni69,
I don't know anything thing about you or your skills, but I have been telling a lot of
new G-Tablet owners to slow down and learn before getting too far into modding.
The G-Tablet with the stock software that is available now (3588) is not bad. And with apps it can be fairly good.
But the mods all come with risks, tradeoffs and sometimes even catastrophes. You need to read this site on the things you are interested in untils you thoroughly understand what you are doing.
Too many people are jumping in and trying to do too much too fast and are winding
up in trouble. As you read further, you'll see.
Stock will go a long was for you with apps you like added -- until you are ready to
make some advanced decisions.
Good luck and enjoy.

Flashing a ROM generally will not harm what is stored on the internal sdcard. However, since you can use a microsd or usb drive to backup the information that would be safest.
As for which ROM is best for your needs... read, read, read. Then try them out. I prefer the TnT path for it's stability and friendliness to media consumption. I've got friends who swear that gaming is best on VEGAn. There are caveats on both. I'm not sure that either comes with anything for editing Office docs but I think the GAdam ROM includes QuickOffice but it's been a while since I looked at it.
Thank for the feedback guys. I will keep that in mind.
I was wondering what kinda battery does this device have. Do i have to fully charge it and then drain it 2 or 3 times for it to fully understand the batteries limits or it doesnt matter?
Also when i was reading the step to flash a rom it states this
Step 7.
Navigate down to “mounts and storage” using the volume buttons. When that is highlighted press the home button to select it.
Step 8.
We want to mount “/system” and “/data”, so if it says “mount /system” that means system is not mounted yet.
Highlight “mount /system” and press the home button. The line should change to read “unmount /system”
Next, highlight “mount /data” and press the home button. The line should change to “unmount /data”
After the first line reads “unmount /system” and the second line reads “unmount /data” you’re done with this step, press the back button to go back to the main menu.
I have a driod 1 and i flash custom roms on it all the time. I have never had to do this step on my driod. Is this step necessary for the tablet? Do i have to do this step every time i load a rom? Usually i just clear the data and cache and the just load the rom zip file. Is this not the case with the tablet?
Just want to be on the safe side and do everything right.
Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Not sure where you read that... I've never had to do it. The process you're familiar with sounds fine. Make sure to read the specific threads for the ROMs for any special procedures and prerequisites.
I got those steps from the linky below

Also what is the battery life like on the tablet?
Any special procedures i have to do to get the most out of the battery life?

12 hours yesterday (about 6 hours of use) with 30% last week. This is running the custom rom Vegan 5.
stock
I'm still running stock + enhancement. I haven't had any problems, though I don't do any document work on my tab. I use my tab for tinkering and surfing, and of course watching movies.
Have fun with your new toy!

Ahh... well I started modding from stock so I downloaded and setup everything to nvflash a factory load. Didn't see a need to backup something I never intended to install again but YMMV. The mounting system and data never seemed necessary either since the update scripts in the .zip usually take care of it.
Battery life has been great and I haven't had to do anything special. There are lots of folks that recommend things like bump charging to maximize your charge but for my uses that hasn't been necessary. I do run it down to about empty every few weeks but that's normally because I forget to charge it...
I have a touch pro, I'm trying to use the xdandroid, but all the versions he has a great sensitivity on the keys below the screen, where it has four buttons plus the round, and all I gotta do it changes the screen to be clutching automatic these buttons, I've tested on 2 htc touch pro and the same thing, has to be clean this area not to activate the buttons, have any setting to disable this?
Sorry my bad english!
Obs.: posted here as to post in the area of the android must have a minimum 10 posts
I'm guessing you are talking about how the button lights go crazy and a means to disable those buttons. To my knowledge, there isn't a way around this. Also, I haven't notice my buttons on my Fuze/RAPH110 going crazy since FRX04. Then again, I am also constantly updating files such as the rootfs and kernel packages. Just out of curiosity, which version of XDAndroid are you running? Yes, there are a total of at least 6 versions now, to include a Gingerbread alpha version.
Now i use http://files.xdandroid.com/GBX0A_Full_Bundle_11.3.2011.zip
What your version?
Keep in mind the Gingerbread port is still in the alpha phases. Somethings will work and other things won't. I use FRX06 because it is more a complete port but even it has some bugs. You can download the full package or just the system. I am also testing various kernel packages to see what works(for me); what's broken and the sort. I would also encourage you to download the ts-calibration file found in the FRX06 thread (first post). Till you figure out how it works and what you can do to change your experience with XDAndroid. Additionally, once you download the ts-calibration file, you'll need to extract it and place it under the same folder/directory as haret. Should be \FRX06\ IF you extract the full package as is.
If you encounter any problems, it is suggested to start over with a fresh microSD(format FAT32 with something other than windows) and push everything up one dirctory. So, if everything is under \FRX06\, cut and paste the contents under that folder to the root of your microSD. The folder is there to organize the builds; for those who run multiple builds or have more than just FRX06 on the microSD. XDAndroid is supposed to run regardless but if you do encounter any problems, that is just one of the many work arounds or solutions to try.
Thank you for answers, my biggest problems are that the button, the high power consumption and catch him and have to give a reset
Yeah, the battery issue has always been a pain. Though, it surely is better now than the 1 hour(and less) run time we had when this project first started! Some report a whole 8 hours, I have yet to see it but not saying that it couldn't happen. I suppose I could turn off the extra services such as sync and weather updates but then I'd be running a similar setup as winmo...
What everyone has to realize that with added availability, comes added problems. Especially if you aren't usually running google sync and other background data services 24/7 while in winmo!
Keeping in mind, I usually get a little longer(maybe 12 hours?) run time while in winmo. With data running in the background 24/7, a couple dozen txts and an hour at the most of talking per day. So, I remain unconvinced it isn't our devices that is the actual problem...
Presenting Problem: Tablet is stuck rebooting itself once it gets to the booting screen animation, USB Debugging was not turned on on the tablet when it was working properly last time, and I need to turn USB Debugging on to fix my tablet. How do I do this?
Disclaimer: Yes, you'll think there are a million other threads about enabling USB debugging and whatnot, but this is totally different!
The Story: My device is a Grid10 tablet. It runs its custom OS built on Android Kernel (Gingerbread). Everything about it is android, except it's not android (and it's not a custom launcher or a skin).
... anyway
The Grid10: Almost nobody here own a Grid10 (I assume), so here's the thing... the Grid has only ONE button. The power button. No volume buttons, no home or back or menu buttons or anything... all those commands are gestures on the Grid (... if it started properly)
The Problem and its Cause: Now, It's stuck continuously rebooting itself once it gets to the the booting animation screen because I mistakenly deleted a file from system/app called SettingsProvider.apk
The Solution: I have the missing file on my laptop, and I need to put it back on the tablet. When I plug in its USB cable, I don't get a drive in My Computer. Obviously, it won't get into storage mode without being told to do so from the settings list (which I have no access to... because it's stuck rebooting itself at the booting animation screen... yes, I'm repeating myself so no one will tell me to "enable USB debugging" when I say that...)
So aparently, to get the file on my Grid, I need to use adb.
And since I didn't have USB Debugging enabled when the Grid was last operating properly, the adb can't see my tablet! (as shown by a 'adb devices' command).
The Sucky Recovery Menu: There is no fastboot on this thing (not that it would help with anything), but there is a recovery menu i can access (by holding down the power button while the tablet is booting), but it's no use. It looks like some kinda' custom recovery menu called "PBJ40 Recovery Utility". It has 4 commands:
reboot system now
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply sdcard: update.zip
I've tried all of these commands (selecting is done by pressing the power button, and when un-pressed for a few seconds, whatever command is highlighted gets executed).
My best bet would have been the update.zip as I created a signed update.zip with the missing file in it so it can put it back in its rightful place... but sd card in question appears to be the built-in sd card, and not the external (removable) sd card... the recovery tool doesn't even look in the external sd card for the update.zip
In Short: To get the file on the tablet, for now, the only way I can see how, is through adb, and seen as how USB Debugging was not enabled when the Grid was operational last time, I come here, to the XDA Forums, asking for advice.
The Question(s):
A) How do I turn on USB Debugging on the tablet so i can use adb and fix it?
or
B) Is there some alternative way for me to get the missing apk in system/app folder that does not require USB debugging?
Got you scratching your brain? Been trying to solve this for so long, I finished scratching mine, and started hitting it against the wall now!
I hate to tell you this man, but I am pretty sure that you messed up your tablet/bricked it.
Problem solved.
Not the USB Debugging thing, but I ended up fixing the tablet.
Can't disclose how I did it though... privacy issues.
So the system is fixed and the GirdOS is running perfectly on the Grid10, but I still can't use the tablet anyway, because of some kinda' server-side failure, because I need to register myself on the server before I gain access to any of the tablet's functions, while the server isn't responding to register my credentials... so yea... the tablet works, but it's still useless to me.
There's not much if any hope that the server will be fixed or get running anytime soon, because from the rumors/reports, FusionGarage (the producer of said tablet) has disappeared off the grid. Ironic, isn't it?
Maybe some day somebody will be able get ICS or Honeycomb running on the Grid10, and will share the knowledge-how with everybody.
I got one of those PBJ40 tablets too with 1366x768 , but no real android (just 2.1) on it.. do you mind sharing the one you got?
maybe you even have the Kernel source for this? could be nice having too

Explain yourself please.
What is this android 2.1 you speak of? The Grid10 (aka PBJ40) comes with its custom OS called GridOS that's based on Android.
So what's the 2.1 android you have? Is it pre-upgrade GridOS or what? After the upgrade, GridOS's kernel was made into Gingerbread.

i guess hardware was tried sold to different parties, as mine is with Android 2.3 ( i made that ) but touchscreen is poor on this device, and Tegra2 got a tough time managing 1366x768 on it, compared to previous devices..
and lastly it was in development so drivers are not finished.
As your GridOS is 2.3 compatible it has a better kernel, and maybe a source for the kernel too, since i got no kernel source and no one that knows this hardware.
but maybe it'll show up with some totally different supplier, i seen talk on chinese forums where ppl compiles linux for it, so its still in the works.

I see.
Looks like whoever made the PBJ40 (aka Grid10) also sold some of its stock to other companies, and since the 'other companies' don't have a dev. team to compensate for the lack of drivers for the Tegra2 (I heard they're going to release the drivers in some 2 months), they had to sell it with Android 2.1 (froyo) on it, with lots of problems like screen responsiveness, poor power management, and the like.
I'm also guessing that you do not have Market, Talk or GMail on your tablet... or at least, you didn't have it at first (doesn't take much skill to install them... the tablet comes rooted).
I'm also guessing you have a serious gestures issue, am I right?
Do you have the 40 pin USB cable? (or did yours come with a regular female USB port??)
... I might be of assistance, if you're able to make your dev skills work in your favor.
So help me help you...
The only way this will work, is if you're able to reverse engineer the GridOS to:
1) Extract the programming that's responsible for the gestures so we can install it on any other device (like your PBJ40, which doesn't have gesture support as advanced as the Grid10), to make the device easier to use.
2) Override the sign-up screen for the GridOS. In case you do not yet know, once you boot GridOS for the first time, you're taken to a setup page (much like the setup page of Windows) where you register yourself on the FusionGarage server (people who made the GridOS) to gain access to the tablet... for some time now, the FusionGarage server has been down, and since the company recently went under, there's no way the server will be fixed ever again, so even with linux kernel 2.3 (aka android gingerbread... without the market) you can't have any kind of access to the tablet, because you'd be unable to proceed form the sign-up page forward! So if you can find a way to over-ride the sign-up page or 'delete' it from the equation altogether, we both win!
So: I can provide you with GridOS kernel version 2.3 (not android... GridOS! It's basically the same, it just doesn't have the Market, and its UI is different... still very nice... I like it).
So... you can't install GridOS on your Froyo tablet (just yet), even if you had the 2.3 GridOS at your disposal, because you'd be stuck there.
So the question remains:
- Can you reverse engineer a linux OS that is android based (but not truly android) to extract from it the gestures program so you can make your PBJ40 more responsive?
- Can you somehow customize GridOS to delete the whole signup page issue?
Both of these things will help me a lot... but only the gestures-solution will be of help to you, unless you have the USB cable for the tablet.
If you PBJ40 is not a regular Grid10, I'd like to see it from all angles + a picture of its cables and chargers... if possible, please upload them to this thread.
For now, to make your life easier, install the program called zMooth from the Market. Its gesture responsiveness will be much better than the 2.1 Froyo version your tablet is now running.
"swipe left to go back, swipe right for menu, gesture a up-arrow(^) for home"
Look at the screenshots to better understand.
While setting up the program sensitivity level, keep in mind that the lower the level, the more sensitive (it's in fine print).
... let me know what you get!
PS: It might also be of help if you can somehow get the gesture program from ICS kernel and adopt it to PBJ40!
Could be we should continue this OT, in a private PM and maybe exchange mails
I think i can do most of it, I even have Android3.0 running on it, but again kernel needed changing since touch driver is not supporting the way 3.0 works.
but it works even with highres..
I do not have 2.1 on it, i ported a CM7/2.3.6 to it, and it worked 95%, some issues with DSP manager and movie codecs, but i did not put my 100% in it, since i was doing it all for fun and my own interest, since i could not share with anyone anyways as no one had it. That was until i saw the design of Grid10, i knew it was 99% like mine.. Flash11.1 works great for movie playback here though..
I got the 4leds on it too and mine has USB HOST/device switching only by compal (writers of many tablets today), but i found the USBUTG tool to use with it, to make switching easier, than doing it in a shell.
anyways, lets maybe continue by PM.. and we can maybe exchange "partitions"

if you know how to use APX mode on it (Reset button on right side(if looking at front). I got android 2.3.6 (CM7) running on it, i think only difference is that i got 4 hardware button (soft light buttons on right side of tablet)
let me know, and i can maybe upload the kernel + system to a site.
I dnt even know what APX is!
I'm new to the android dev. scene, so i dnt know much yet.
I don't have much use for a Gingerbread ROM that's not going to be filly compatible with the Grid10. We don't have ANY buttons on our tablets.
To compensate for that, you might want to include the program Zmooth in the list of apps that the flashing-process will auto-install, so whoever flashes the CyanogenMod won't be left stranded without any buttons to use on the Grid10.
As mentioned in the flashing tutorial, V. is recompiling the original GridOS to make it skip the registration page, and it's Gingerbread too, one that's completely compatible with the tablet's specs, including gestures. It will be the GridOS as (previously) advertised by FusionGarage, only this time, no registration page, which means we can flash it and actually use it (up till now, whoever re-flashed or did a factory reset couldn't use their tablet because the registration could not be completed since the FG servers were down).
Maybe that could prove to be useful to you... I'll upload the file to the Grid10 forum once it's finished.
(i wonder if there's a way to open a Grid10 section in the xda forums...)
But what you have could be useful to somebody else out there!
How about you upload your files in Dropbox, and create a new thread on the above-linked forum, and share your ROM so other people might benefit from it.
https://www.dropbox.com/
Make sure you write your tablet's full specs, including the information about your soft and hard buttons, as our tablets have NO soft-buttons, and only have 2 hardware buttons: a power button and a reset button.
Edit: as the Grid10 doesn't have volume buttons, i don't think it's even capable of entering APX mode. It does have a recovery mode... but the only options in there are to factory-reset, delete cache partition, and install update.zip.

can you check when you got the tablet in front of you facing up. that on your right side a little hole is found just about center, 5-6cm above simcard slot (at least on mine simcard is on the right side)
if you turn it off, holding in the tap inside the small hole (you can feel the click when its pushed), press power and it goes into APX mode. but you will need the bootloader.bin to get it in full apx mode and ready to accept commands.
A small step for man.... My Grid10 is more than just a brick
- Using Ghoymakh's instructions from JooJoo Forum, I successfully flashed my Grid10 yesterday.
-- The identified 'tar' command didn't work on the compressed file but the Archive Mounter within Back Track worked just fine.
- Now, as time permits, I'm going to move forward and attempt to incorporate the Xmooth and Market.
-- If only I could get my JooJoo Forum account activated....
Again, Props to Ghoymakh, V, and any/all other contributors.

After I do a fresh install of cromi on my tablet, it's just excellent, fluid and smooth. After a while, the performance seems to detoriate. It has done so for about every version I tried and the same goes for my phone (An i9300 running slimkat). So my question is this: What makes an android device inherently slower? Is there a way to see what apps may slow down the performance?

That is a very good question...:good: I have the same question but I can not find a solid answer for it. I hope that some developers or experts can give us a good definition of it...
This is what I know but I may be totally off and wrong, haha..
When you first install the new ROM, all your partitions are new and clean. When you write something to your data partition, it is most of the case, it just writes data to a clean blocks without erasing the blocks. After a while, most of your blocks are dirty even though they are unused or available for writing. This is the part that users see the degradation. When a new data is writing to the available and dirty blocks, first the kernel has to erase the block before writing to it. The erase process takes a lot longer than the write process according to my research...:crying: On our tf700, writing to the internal sd or mmc is very slow already. On top of that, the erasing process has to be done before writing the new data to your internal sd. If you do the math, the performance of the writing will degrade more than twice comparing the new installation..:crying: I believe that google noticed this issue so they implemented the fsTRIM on the newer kernel source to tackle this problem..:good:
However, when you are using the fsTRIM, you have to sacrifice some slightly performance loss and you don't notice performance degradation over time.. During the normal usage, I can not tell the differences if the fsTRIM is on or off but I did see the small performance loss with a bench test.. In short, I know both _that and hund's kernel support the fsTRIM but it is disable as a default. You can try to enable it to see if it is solving your degraded problem....Good luck...:fingers-crossed:
Another method is to use the lagfix manually once a week or more frequently...
Usually I reboot to recovery, wipe cache (don't need to do dalvik), reboot back to ROM and everything is quick again.
I don't know why this works though.

It's the controller in the eMMC that does that. The peculiarities of flash memory - no way to directly overwrite data, need to erase in large blocks before writing, can't write to the same location too often or it wears out - are all hidden by a small (and not very smart, in our case) controller. The kernel sees a block device that it can use like a mechanical hard drive.

This depends how much data is written and how much space is free. If you have 10 GB free and you run lagfix once, you won't benefit from running it again until after 10 GB have been written to flash. Random writes cost more than their real size (see above, overwrites must be simulated by rewriting larger blocks), sequential writes translate to about their actual size written to flash.

Thanks for the insightful information guys, you are frickin awesome! . I thought the lagfix app was removed from CROMI, since the trim function was no longer needed after 4.2. I might be wrong about this, but in any case I have LagFix premium which can trim partitions on a schedule, and I take it that it doesn't do any harm at least?

CROMI is based off ASUS' stock firmware, hence it is still Android 4.2.1 (and will likely stay that way forever since ASUS does not update the tf700 anymore). As TRIM is only available in Android 4.3 onward, Lagfix is still a relevant. As far as I know, some people reported data corruption from using Lagfix, but I personally haven't had any issue. Your mileage may vary though.
As for performance degradation, I am also quite interested in knowing why. One of the key strength of Linux over Windows is that Linux does not have this performance degradation over time and most Linux users will happily attest to this statement. Apparently, Google has somehow removed that strength when they made Android. Many people who choose iOS over Android will also cite this performance degradation as a factor since iOS does not suffer from this problem as well, if at all. At this point, I am just going to blame Dalvik VM for all this inefficiency. If you look at Windows Phone 8 (made by the same company that brought you Windows) and iOS, both run native machine code instead of a virtual machine and they don't have any drop in performance over time. Practically, a HTC HD7 with WP7 can still compete with current Android handsets in terms of UI smoothness and exhibit no stuttering nonewhatsoever, except when you started using intensive apps, but that is definitely a hardware limitation.

"Trim" is a kernel feature and is activated by using the ext4 mount option "discard", which has been in the kernel since 2010.
Expanding a bit on the issue at hand, I'm curious about two types of apps:
First one is twilight. It's much like the f.lux or redshift program for PCs making the screen red at nighttime, so that falling asleep is supposedly easier. Now I enjoy using this on any type of screen I'm in front of after dark, but the downside to this is that it makes both my tablet and phone really laggy. My phone (i9300) isn't as affected by the performance as the tf700 is, but I wonder why this sort of app slows the device down?
Second app is SwiftKey. I love this keyboard app for its functionality and its predictions. However not being a native English speaker, I also write a lot of Norwegian so I have two word lists installed. My issue is that the keyboard seems slow and sluggish in its response, and sometimes it takes forever to actually write something down. Is this related to using two dictionares instead of one? I really love this app and would like to keep on using it, as no other keyboard seems as good to me.

I also use f.lux on all our laptops. Never heard of twillight. I highly recommend and have used Lux Dash (location based sunset setting etc) for what seems like forever on Kindle Fire, Note, Note 2 and TF700 and it can even dim down to pretty much all black if you want it to. I never experienced any slow-down because of it on the Infinity.
Just last week I read about two apps that slow down the posters Infinity and one of them was Swiftkey and there was no mention of your dual language setting and I suspect it's not a dual language issue. I've used Danish & English (and briefly Spanish for Duolingo app so 3 at the same time) and also noticed it being very unresponsive, but haven't noticed any diffence with 1, 2, or 3 languages. Now it solely resides on my Note 2. Should be easy to test though, just by disabling one language and see if it makes a difference.
I can't remember what the other app was though. It was some post or article about lowering RAM usage by, among other things, using Titanium to change certain downloadable system apps (Gmail, Dropbox etc) into user apps and then using Greenify. Hopefully Greenify will work on this new Cromi-KK ROM I just installed, but that's on tomorrow's To Do List. Note: Greenify can only do system apps (paid version) with Xposed installer and Xposed doesn't work with KitKat.
Hope that was somewhat useful and not a complete waste of your time :silly:
Not sure if I need to create a new thread, or post here, but I'm at a loss. I feel like I've wasted a ton of money on this thing. I bought the TF700 over the Galaxy 10.1 thinking it had better specs and was going to be a great product from ASUS. First problem I had was "phantom touches" and had to send it in for repair. Now it's utterly useless. It SUPER slow, so slow that I'd rather throw it in the trash than deal with it. I've tried Clean Master, but it never seemed to help performance. I installed CROMBI-kk and it's still has poor performance. I've set the wallpaper to black (none), removed all widgets, and installed maybe 2 apps so far. I also tried LagFix but it says it doesn't have permission to modify the directories (or something like that). I've ensured that Root is enabled under Developer Options.
My old Incredible (v1) runs better than this. I really don't know what to do. It's very frustrating. I even wasted the money on the keyboard attachment but in combination with the lag, I can't even bear to use it. I downloaded 2048 and swipes are slow, and once the tiles move, sometimes it takes a couple of seconds for the numbers to merge.
Is there ANYTHING I can do? I've looked through the suggestions. Am I missing something? Does EVERYONE have this problem with their TF700? I wrote ASUS about it and basically said "since you unlocked the device, we would have to replace the mainboard for $300 (parts + labor) in order to undergo any out-of-warranty diagnostics." The only reason I unlocked it was because I've heard that the performance problems were due to the ASUS software, so I thought installing a custom ROM would be the answer to my problem.
Any idea if this is a hardware issue, or something that can be fixed in the software?

Something is not right mate.
Confirm what boot loader you are on please, which recovery and how you updated the ROM then we can get you setup so experience your tab like never before

I followed the instructions in the thread, using twrp-2.6.3-that3_Signed.zip and cm-11.0-20140322-CROMBikk4.4.2-tf700t_Signed.zip. I had already unlocked it a while back with the intention of installing a ROM but never did until yesterday, But I had TWRP 2.3.3.3 installed.
I booted up the tablet, plugged it into the computer, copied over TWRP 2.6.3 (zip) and CROMBI-kk (zip) onto internal storage. Powered down and powered back in into RCK (recovery). First thing I did was an advanced wipe, wiping everything except for the SD card and internal storage. Then installed TWRP from the zip on the storage. Rebooted Recovery. Did the same advanced wipe (x2), then installed the CROMBI zip from within recovery, pretty much leaving all the defaults for the install except for I chose Google Experience Launcher (not sure why, never tried it I guess). That's pretty much it. It installed fine, didn't seem to have any errors or anything odd. Booted up fine, went through the setup process on first boot. Setup 1 Google Account, and installed a few apps (mainly just Chrome and 2048). Other apps installed by ROM were: AdAway, Google+ (for auto-backup), Maps, Hangouts, and I installed SwiftKey. Most everything else seems to be stock.
As far as bootloader, not really sure. When I do the volume-down+power boot, I see Key driver not found.. Android cardhu-user bootloader (1.00 e) released by "US_epad-10.6.1.14.8-20130514" A03. I can get into Terminal Command from TWRP so if I need to run any commands to find out any information, let me know.
Thanks for your response and willingness to help!

OK I don't quite understand your advanced wipe decisions. Also what is 2048?
You need to make sure you are at least wiping /data. It may be worth loading CROMBi-kk to microsd and doing a full format on internal which will do data and the whole internal sd - it'll take about 90 mins+ so nmake sure you have enough juice.
The will eliminate any remnants and left overs.
Your bootloader *should* be fine although it is slightly old as the latest one is 10.6.1.14.10 but I don't think that causes any issues. Also make sure you choose _that's kernel in the installer and it doesn't hurt to disable journaling, disable fsync and enable the 2 GPU options.
Finally after it boots go to settings, about tablet and click the build number 7 times to enable developer settings. Then go into developer settings, enable power menu, root and set your 3 animation settings to 0.5x or zero. Last but not least change the runtime from dalvik to art and then let it reboot.
Let it settle. How does it feel now?

In the past, I've read to do multiple wipes, but the items I'm wiping should be all except the SD_CARD and Internal Storage. 2048 is a little number game: http://gabrielecirulli.github.io/2048/ (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.digiplex.game)

When I get some free time, I'll come back and give this a shot. Thanks for all your help.

I'll make a note of this as well when I go back through this. I'm not sure where I had the choice of kernel in the installer, but I'll make sure I choose _that's. I don't know what those other options are, but again, will keep an eye out for them.

Thank you for all this information. When I get some time, I'll give these steps a shot and hopefully be much happier with my tablet. Thanks again!
