Helllppppppp Please - HTC Inspire 4G

i got S-Off thats done phone works fine but i have no audio so i know i need a kernel problem is there is no SuperUser on my inspire and or so i cant run Rom manger to flash Clockwork Why did SuperUser not install after doing the Root????

iirc the superuser is installed with the first flash you perform. can you be more clear about which procedure you were using? attn1's i assume?

will this work if i just flash Stock inspire RUU and break root all i want is to Sideload and have Sound lol ?

i had success sideloading apps that DO NOT require root using adb push from the computer. if you can flash the rom, then that should solve your problems as far as i can understand.

So you guys understand what i wanna do as of now everything is fine i can sideload and have S-off but i have no Sound because its a DHD Rom So how to i get me Sound back but keep Sideload and i dont care if i break root i dont need it just want my Audio??

i dont have the documentation or the hack kit here in front of me, but if i remember correctly you were supposed to flash clockworkmod recovery while you had temp-root. i think that might be the step you missed?

So how do I get my audio all I want and to sideload

If you used Attn1's method, did you complete the steps to the end? Did you flash the stock radio back?

ok can you link me to that radio or method i will re run that thanks What sucks is this is my friends phone has no ideal his audio wont work i told him i would root it Helppp

Can you boot to Recovery? Turn off fastboot (settings--applications--remove check from fastboot), turn off phone, hold Vol - and PWR until bootloader starts. Select Recovery. If it boots to CWM Recovery, then all you should need to do is download a new ROM and flash it through CWM. If you cant get to CWM, then flashing the RUU should take you back to stock, giving you your sound back. Once you're back to stock you can use sideload wonder machine to sideload, without root. Note: running the ruu to get back to stock will leave s-off. If you want s-on you'll need to do that before you flash stock ruu
2nd post here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957692) will walk you through the process

This would get you back to stock, no root, but everything working the same way it was out of the box.

No. The stock ROM doesn't have that option. But sideload wonder machine doesn't need that option to side load unknown sources

well i just need to get some of my apks on his phone before he picks it up is wonder machine i quick simple thing also can you link me thanks

Also is there a way i can fix my Audio with a patch Zip or flash without Clock Work? there has to be I swear At&t is a Joke for what they do to Android

I've honestly never used it, but from the way other people talk it's easy enough. Install the program on your computer, hook your phone up, tell the program where the apks are that you want installed, and presto!

unable to reboot into recovery

hi all,
I have a rooted DHD (used visionary) and am on the Stock Rom, the version is as follows:
Android Version : 2.2
Baseband Version 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
Kernel Version
2.6.32.21-g66cfb7a
[email protected] #1

Build Number
1.32.720.5 CL277010 release-keys
Software number
1.32.720.5
Browser version
Webkit 3.1
I was keen on trying the custom roms and hence started by downloading the ROM Manager off the market. I installed clockwork recovery using the Rom Manager and after doing so it said installed successfully.
Now the issue is that i just simply cant reboot into recovery, everytime i try doing so, my phone reboots and just gives me the red triangle.
I have factory resetted my phone, installed clockwork recovery again using the ROM manager but it just dont go beyond the red triangle.
If i manually try to reboot holding down the volume button with the power button, nothing happens, as soon as i let the power button go, it just reboots itself.
Can any one please tell me what is the problem here. I dont even have one nandroid backup of my phone as i was never able to reboot into recovery after i installed clockwork recovery..
Cheers...
So if i am right you tried to install cwm without having a rooted ROM?
That won't work because ROM manager needs root access, the only thing you now did with visionary is making you phone s-off.
Correction, you get superuser app when you install visionary?! You get permission request when you try cwm?

That's incorrect, Visionary only gives root permissions, not S-OFF. So shamps, you have to get S-OFF first. Links in my signature..

I did not tried installing a custom rom, i wanted to take a nandroid backup of my phone using the ROM manager before i start trying custom roms. I have root access (i am able to use root explorer and titanium backup), Visionary give root access and not s-off (i am pretty sure with what i have read around here).

Dear jkoljo, yes i have read your posts and seen you work, kudos to you for giving the forums these super cool mod tools. Now, if i understand correctly, you are saying that i cannot reboot into recovery without having s-off. I think my purpose was misunderstood, the only thing i am trying to achieve is to reboot into recovery at the moment, and i am unable to do so, simply cant get past the Red Triangle after i click Reboot into Recovery on ROM manager.
Did the clockwork recovery not flssh correctly, i have falshed it twice using the ROM manager.

Actually you cannot even flash the clockworkmod without S-OFF, so you really do need it
With root and without S-OFF it seems like the clockworkmod flashes fine, but it actually does not. The write protection in your device's internal memory prevents any changes.

Ohh, i was unaware of that. If the clockwork mod is not flashed this way, shuldnt my stock recovery be still there.

OK. One more confusion, when i tried booting with the volume button pressed down earlier, i was able to get to the white screen with all the info regarding the device(not sure it was before or after i played around with the Rom Manager).
Why cant i get to it now?
PS: i am not sure if its relevant or not; i cant even install the latest OTA update, after the update is downloaded the phone reboots, starts the install and after may be 20%, the same red triangle appears. Tried it twice with the same result even with unrooting my phone.
Please dont mind so many qs from my side; its my first android device and i am still learning.

There is no difference in going to that white bootloader screen, but if you have fastboot enabled now, you have to rip your battery out before you can boot there. You can also try rebooting while holding vol down.
If you have uninstalled any system apps with your root permissions, OTA updates become disabled.

Finally got things under my control. Was able to get to the white screen and yes now i am sure that i have s-on and the stock recovery. Now i can finally play around with my device. Thanks for all the help guys. I did uninstall some system apps but since i dont have my s-off, all stock apps were restored automatically. Now is the latest OTA important as i am on stock rom, if yes is there a way to get it with my current settings? I dont want you guys to go crazy with all these questions but then i have no one else to go to :d.
PS: which custom rom would you suggest for me as it will be the first time for me.

Do not do the OTA under any circumstances if you are going to flash a custom ROM. OTA's disable rooting, and then you have to downgrade manually..
Get the latest Android Revolution HD 3.x series (3.2 at the moment). You can follow the multiple guides in this forum to flash, check the sticky roll up thread. You can begin with radio s-off tool (in my signature).
Alrite mate...
Mny thanks fir guidin and helping me.
Will try the rom you suggested as my first.
Would you mind if i PM you if i get stuck during my first rom flash...

[Q] Returning to stock [i9020a]

I just wanted to make sure that I understood the process of returning my phone to stock before I make a mistake.
All I've done since I purchased the phone was root it and unlock the bootloader. I have not loaded any custom roms.
So If I understand this correctly I need to:
1) Flash the Stock Image (which should include the stock recovery?)
2) Use fastboot to lock the bootloader
The reason I'm wanting to return the phone to stock is to receive OTA updates. I never use any apps requiring root, and don't plan on loading any custom roms.
I never did find a 2.3.4 stock image for the I9020A..
you should actually be able to get ota updates no problem. it'll just remove root every time you update.
it's probably not a good idea to lock the bootloader though cause if you ever want to unlock it again in the future you'll have to wipe everything from your phone. your best bet is to just flash stock recovery so you can install the update
i'm pretty sure that works, but hopefully someone else can verify just so you don't get some bad information lol
I heard the same thing about OTA updates. If you're phone is rooted and you're using the original rom, you'll get the update but you'll have to root your phone once again.
I haven't tried this myself so I cannot verify it.
It's just the word on the street, you know!

you need stock everything, so stock kernel, rom, radio, etc... the op should be fine to update if they flash stock recovery though. rooting is simple from there

Thanks again kibmcz, so I just completed the flash, then did a fastbook oem lock.
Seems to be working fine except for one thing...
When I go into settings and hit Sound I get a Force close when I try and select a new ringtone...
Should I try reflashing again?

Using my zip yes... it flashes Bootloader, Radio, Boot, System and on first boot (and any other time recovery changes) Recovery is flashed. All you got to to is lock the bootloader and that wipes user data and usb storage.
hey man i appreciate you coming forward with a solution, ive yet to recieve the phone but wanted to prepare.
my goal is to flash everything back to stock and start completly over whereas i have no clue what method was originally used to root and unlock the bootloader.
when the time comes hope you dont mind a PM if i have any extra questions.

Just did the method using the stock ROM provided by kibmcz "thanks BTW!"
Phone is back to stock, working like it did when I first bought it. Had a little trouble with some Force Close issues but did a factory reset/data clear of the cache and all that before re-flashing, and it seems to be working Vanilla!

[Q] HTC One S Root OTA Update Questions

Hello Everyone,
As of today, my phone received the new OTA Update for my HTC One S. However, obviously I cannot update due to my phone being rooted. As a person who is still relatively new with rooting (about a month rooted with my phone-first time), I have a couple questions.
First and foremost, have you guys enjoyed the OTA Update so far? I have read about the list of improvements, and they look promising.
Secondly, I obviously want to stay rooted, are there any suggestions about how to update and then have my phone rooted? Preferably without losing my root, but I don't think that's possible.
Thirdly, I saw a thread about the viper (I believe that's what it's called) rom and that could be my possible solution. But, I am rooted on stock rom and have never put on another rom before. So what are your thoughts on this rom?
Thanks in advance

Hey Dr.
I had the same issue and fixed it. I'm enjoying the OTA update...seems snappier and the option to change the menu button and get rid of that eyesore at the bottom of the screen is great....See this post on how to fix it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32069130
All you have to do is download the stock recovery (link located in the post above), rename it "Recovery.IMG" and put it in the /Data/Recoveries folder that your All In One Kit uses. Then open up the All In One root kit, flash the stock recovery, and reboot your phone. It should look the same, and give you the same notification that an update is available. Install the update, and then reflash your TWRP or CWM and reroot (the OTA unroots the device, so you need to reinstall SuperSu.
Thanks to all the people that have helped me do the same!!!

I keep flashing the stock recovery with all-in-one and then downloading and installing the update. Everytime, about halfway it goes back to the red triangle with the exclamation point and restarts the phone five minutes later.
I check software and its still 4.0.3 and the update redownloads. I've tried several "stock recoveries" and the update afterwards... never works.

I have also tried the steps and have run into the same problem. All is well when I flash into recovery, but when the phone starts updating about quarter or half-way through it also gives me the same red error message and the phone restarts soon after with no update. However, thanks fsustrength for the instructions, before I was getting no where, but now I almost got it

As there are many questions on how to do OTA update & to revert to stock after a device is rooted and bootloader unlocked; I made this simple guide which I hope will help the newbies especially.
NOTE : always do a backup and a nandroid backup before trying any of these.
OTA update:
A) ROM is stock, bootloader unlocked, stock recovery and not rooted.
- just run the OTA update, there is no need to relock the bootloader
B) ROM is stock, bootloader unlocked, CWM recovery and not rooted.
- flash the stock recovery that comes with your RUU, extract the RUU for the stock recovery.
* boot to bootloader
* fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img
* fastboot reboot-bootloader
* fastboot erase cache
* fastboot reboot
- run the OTA update
C) ROM is stock, bootloader unlocked, stock recovery and rooted
- download OTA Rootkeeper from Play Store
- run the OTA Rootkeeper and click protect root
- run the OTA update, there is no need to relock bootloader
- Once done, run OTA Rootkeeper and click restore root
D) ROM is stock, bootloader unlocked, CWM recovery and rooted
- download OTA Rootkeeper from Play Store
- run the OTA Rootkeeper and click protect root
- no need to relock bootloader
- boot to bootloader and fastboot flash the stock recovery
- run the OTA update
- Once done, run OTA Rootkeeper and click restore root
E) ROM is custom, bootloader unlocked, CWM recovery and rooted and you have a stock nandroid backup
- flash the stock boot.img if after nandroid restore, you have a bootloop
- flash the stock recovery.img
- relock the bootloader - fastboot oem lock
- boot your device and run the OTA update
F) ROM is custom, bootloader unlocked, CWM recovery and rooted and you don't have a stock nandroid backup
- if you dont have the stock nandroid backup, you need to run RUU
- before you can run the RUU you need to:
* flash the stock recovery.img
* flash the stock boot.img (maybe no need)
* relock the bootloader - fastboot oem lock
* run RUU
- run device setup
- run the OTA update
Flashing RUU to revert to stock or to update your One V after you have a custom ROM installed.
- you must have the correct RUU for your device.
- if you are not sure, download CID Getter from Play Store and run it, it will show your CID.
- with your CID, you may be able to find a correct RUU for your device
then (even though some people may not agree with this, but this will bring no harm and it is noob-proof) do this:
1- flash a stock recovery.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cache
2- flash a stock boot.img
fastboot flash boot boot_signed.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cache
3- re-lock bootloader
fastboot oem lock
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cache
4- flash RUU
Note : for people with ERROR 155 UNKNOWN ERROR they need to go into HBOOT and select FASTBOOT and run the RUU to revert to stock (thanks Lloir)
And usually:
Error 155 - usually wrong recovery.img /wrong boot.img
Error 140 - wrong bootloader / bootloader unlocked
Error 131 - wrong RUU for your device

Wow, that is a very useful guide right there! However, while reading the guide, Step D is exactly what both TheAdictsPunk and I seem to have done (I'm making an assumption that he did). I did in fact have and used the root keeper app, put it on temporary unroot, and flashed the stock rom and ran the update. Yet, I still run into the problem of the red error sign. I'm sure there is a factor that maybe could cause it to stop, but I cannot put a finger on it.
However, I did notice something while following the procedures of the guide on my phone. When I flash the stock rom on my phone, I have to re-download the system update. While downloading the system update I notice that some of my apps get root permissions from SuperSu in the background, even though in root keeper I temporarily took off root. Rootkeeper also states that my phone is unrooted. Could this problem cause the red error message? If so, any way to fix it?

I did! Last night I even tried flashing the recovery image through fastboot instead of the all-in-one kit. Then, even, the recovery image wouldn't flash all the way through... maybe our phones are having a problem with the recovery being reflashed and not the update at all.
I had the same exact issue. I finally got fed up and just flashed the RUU with my computer and then just used the All-in-one program to re-root. I am now enjoying 2.31 and really glad I updated. Obviously the RUU wipes everything, but I had done a full backup using Titanium Backup, and then restored all the important settings and data (like accounts, wifi list, bookmarks, dictionary, etc.) (but not the system apps themselves! ) and it worked out pretty well. Still had some things to adjust, like sounds and such. If you want to keep your SMS's use the built-in backup in the messaging app, then restore after the update.. more reliable than any other app I've tried.

Still had some things to adjust, like sounds and such. If you want to keep your SMS's use the built-in backup in the messaging app, then restore after the update.. more reliable than any other app I've tried.

I'm strongly considering doing that, I can back all my contacts and apps and sms messages via Mobile Go. So, wiping my phone isn't too big of an issue for me because I can restore almost everything I need back on my phone. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the source that you got the RUU? Also, I have never flashed an ruu before so is their a guide for our phone to flash a RUU?

Links to downloads are on that page.. just copy/paste.
Basically start your phone in fastboot, connect to usb, then run the ruu with admin privileges. Make sure you are on stock recovery, and already have the USB drivers installed on your PC (unless you're on Linux.. already has them.. and maybe Mac too?)

Well I followed all your steps, and all was going well until I ran across RUU error 130, which states that it was using the incorrect RUU. I looked into it and I found that it was the Europe version, and I have the T-Mobile version of my phone. I'm assuming that this is the issue, am I right? Does the RUU in Europe different than the T-Mobile USA one? If so, are there any RUU's out there that cover my phone? I have searched for them with no luck..

Ok I figured out a couple answers to my questions. One, the Europe version and the T-Mobile Version are different. That explains why the RUU did not work and gave me Error 130. However, the T-Mobile RUU, RUU_Ville_U_TMOUS_1.84.531.2_R2_Radio_0.16.31501S, is the alternate version that also recieves the OTA update. The RUU is found here http://androidforums.com/one-s-all-things-root/560329-ruu-download-mirrors.html
Then, following the steps, I have successfully updated my phone to the newer softeware!
But of course, I run into another problem.... The CWM recovery does not work for my phone. I flashed the recovery via the HTC One S All-in-One Toolkit. But when getting my phone into recovery mode, it "crashes." (By crashes I mean the phone will go into the htc developmental screen, then turn to black, then reload the normal bootup screen and boot normally up) So, I don't have CWM and I'm unable to root my phone again because I don't have CWM to flash SuperSu. Any thoughts on this?

I'm still running stock 1.84, but I'm rooted and unlocked. I do not have any kind recovery like CWM or TWRP. You may have to flash a stock recovery image in order to re-install the recovery of your choice. If you want to get rooted again try this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1577831 It's what I used to gain root. It's a rather easy to follow guide. I used this instead of the AIO kit.
I'm going to try and revert to locked and unroot in order to get the update. Wish me luck.

If this many people are running into this problem, maybe we can get a role call of whose using what method, if not stock ROM what custom they are using, and what carrier they us?
I'm stock ROM, Stock Recovery, and Tmobile US. I used Method C.
I'm wondering if they have changed the update in a way that is preventing some people from updating. like it detects a certain file before update or something idk. I'm not any sort of advanced android user so I am probably wrong, but it's the first thing that comes to mind. Otherwise, maybe they sent out a bad update file, but I feel like that probably wouldn't be the case since it's been happening for a couple days now.
Thought's ideas anyone, or am I alone in any of these thoughts?

Yes i agree about the file detection. I'm running stock rom but i think i've just realised my problem. Although i have a stock rom my problem is that the stock rom i'm running is deodexed. I read somewhere that if the stock rom is tweaked in any way or if any bloatware is deleted you can't get OTA updates.
Hope this helped
Wouldn't an RUU fix any of those problems?
Yes it would

Can you recommend a ROM that

Can get past Tmobiles tethering block? Also one that has gotten rid of the most bloatware that Tmobile puts on these phone? Looking for the basic apps that come with the phone and less crap that they put on these phones
All the custom roms on this forum will not have any of the bloatware that comes with the stock device.
And to fix the tethering issue, just create a new APN and set it to epc.tmobile.com, that should bypass the tethering/hotspot issue on T-Mobile.

It takes like 10 minutes..and then download the ROM and flash it. Voila.
Ok finally unlocked my phone using the HTC method. Downloaded the Trickdriod Rom and tried to go into Recovery mode, but all I get is a screen with a red triangle and exclamation? Rebooted the phone, bootloader, same thing? What is going on? I know the phone is unlocked, because it says it, it just gets stuck in recovery mode...Any advice?
Did you flash a recovery? Doesn't look like it if you are getting android recovery.

I'd just start over fresh.
Relock the bootloader
Go back to stock with a ruu install
Unlock bootloader
Flash custom recovery
Flash rom
Flash boot.img
I think that's the order you want to do things in but couldn't hurt to double check on a different guide.

Tampered means non-official software such as root, it is OK and you will always see it when using custom ROMs.
Might want to check the FAQs, have some basic useful info which will help understand some things too
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24884624&postcount=3
After unlocking bootloader on the steps on previous post, I would root the phone. Then flash the custom recovery.
Did you flash the boot.img with fastboot from the ROM you choose? You have to:
1- extract it from the rom you downloaded,
2- place it on your computer on the same folder than fastboot
3- boot into bootloader
4- select fastboot
5- on your PC on a command line run: fastboot flash boot boot.img
Let me know how it goes,
Diego
Ok I tried to redo it again and maybe I know what the issue is ...when I try to go into recovery mode ...It says Andriod development (S3) Do I have the issue phone? If so where is the download items for my phone?
Does anyone know if I have the 3s phone?
I believe so, check your processor speed. S3 I believe is 1.7 not 1.5 as S4 is
If that is the case you are limited to S3 roms. There are a couple. I didn't think S3's are in US--maybe wrong--
Not sure on all this except processor speeds
Good to see you here FenderGuy--think we crossed paths on the Nexus Forums--

[q] htc inspire 4g root white screen

Hi- i'm tyring to root my HTC Inspire 4G. I've downloaded alot of the programs aahk, oneclick, root rescue, etc. not having any luck. one click program gets to #7 and hangs. my rom recovery might be corrupt b/c i cant get into recovery. even when i do a factory reset in settings it hangs on the white htc screen on boot up forever. than need to take battery out. i did manage to unlock the bootloader fine with htcdev.i tried the PD98IMG in my sdcard. but i guess i need to have S-Off which i still have S-On b/c my phone isnt rooted yet, any ideas what i can try.? thanks

If you've unlocked the bootloader you can't do any of that other stuff. You need to fastboot flash a recovery.img. Then flash a ROM from there. Instructions in the Ace Think Tank in the Desire HD General section. Note that the DHD and the I4G are essentially the same phone and have the same rooting instructions, and they can use each others' ROMs.

I'm new today here. wondering if i posted in right category after i posted. i see a development one to..
There are two ways to root and flash a custom ROM. One is S-Off. The other is unlocking the bootloader. S-off's tool has been retired, so you can only do it manually. You can still root and flash custom ROMs with an unlocked bootloader, though.

What's an XGS ROM? You're hanging on the boot splash because #6 had an error. Fastboot flashing the ROM zip's boot.img is essential because you are S-On.

Unzip the ROM zip. It'sinside the folders. If the ROM is missing one you need to find a new ROM zip.

Like I said earlier, there are two ways you can root and flash custom ROMs, S-On with unlocked bootloader and S-Off, and you can't have both. If you want S-Off, you would need to relock. And since AAHK (the S-Off tool) is retired, you can only manually S-Off now (which is something I would only recommend for advanced users). Using outdated tools, like AAHK and SuperOneClick, can get you in very bad predicaments very quickly (and I should note that you will probably not find support for those cases). You can look into other ROMs though, and note that the Inspire 4G and the Desire HD are basically the same phone and can use each others' ROMs. Since you are now rooted and can flash custom ROMs through recovery anyway, I would strongly advise that you stick to flashing ROMs now and not try to get S-Off.
LTE is a hardware issue. I4G and DHD don't support it.
