I have been missing alot of sleep lately so I probably am just missing something here. I just installed the newest gingerbread for my g-tab. I also have next to the newest version of gb on my phone (optimus v).
I just finished flashing the gb to my g-tab and i go into google maps and it pinpoints my location exactly. I don't know how it would have done that.
I was wondering if like the mysterious new syncing to google music in gingerbread is it syncing my gps location from my optimus v also, and after I logged into my google account on my g-tab it had my location.
My best guess is that you are connecting to a wifi network. what is happening is google basically knows where your ip address is. like.... EXACTLY.
freaky eh?

Is there any point to install and play with cyanogenmod 9 if I'm noob?
I have HTC DESIRE S
I have rooted flashed so far by cgm 7.2 and I don't have problem really.
I know how to use google.
That's why I don't post questions about my device and set up, they are answers sooner, than my question arise. Google and forums are working well for me.
Is there any good to use semifunctional device for benefitial purposes? For example cgm9 for saga, the last nightly build, wifi is not working. If I'm noob?
How to report? Does it help really? It's not about complaining... I'm happy with stable releases and google. I'm not looking for learning coding. I "use" and if bug I do google search... Seems like cgm9 where functionality changes from build to build, there is no point to complain... of course... So does help to say if something doesn't work and where to do it? is there place to do that?
Do I have to make 9 other questions like this to tell that cyanogenmod 9 last nightly build for desire s has nonfunctional wifi? To be able to report it in developers threads? Is that helpful information? Can be noob helpful?
EDIT: wifi is not malfunctional, the etntire trouble is ICS android not being supported for connecting to ad-hoc acces points(hotspots). Infrastructure mode apparently available for set up under windows 7 (not xp) should let you use your computer as hotspot for ICS androids

I don't have this device, but if it doesn't work, CM knows about it. Are you sure it doesn't require a different kernel for wifi to work? Did you read the entire thread? I know sometimes in forums it says not to ask about certain things... Nightlies aren't a finished product. They are tests builds. Some better than others... I myself LOVE CM9 Nightlies!! If it's not what you want, just flash another rom.

For those of you who may have tried to connect your recently updated ICS Transformer Prime to your cell phone using the wifi tether app, you may have noticed that your tablet would not pick of the signal from your phone. We are running an ATT Samsung Galaxy SII here and had wifi tether 3.1 beta 6 installed from a few months back. Before upgrading to ICS on our Prime, we had successfully tethered Honeycomb 3.2.1 to the phone without a problem at all. After the upgrade to ICS we wanted to test some of the wireless connectivity issues and decided to tether to our phone once again to get Speedtest results and noticed that we couldn’t see the phone’s hotspot.
In launching the trusty wifi analyzer app, we noticed that the tablet was “seeing” the hotspot in the wifi analyzer app, however, there was a little red designation at the end of the hotspot information denoting “ad hoc” and we were not able to connect or even given the option to connect to the hotspot. In doing some reading on this and finding that in other forums there were many other users saying that after upgrading to ICS they were no longer able to connect to their hotspot, we assumed this was definitely something with ICS. Officially, Google does not support ad hoc networks in ICS apparently.
However, the upside to all of this is that if you upgrade your wifi tether app to the latest and greatest, which in our case was 3.1 beta 11, we were able to select the option in the wifi profile to be the infrastructure mode as opposed to ad hoc mode for our Samsung Galaxy SII. After performing the update, and changing the profile to infrastructure, we were once again able to connect our ICS Prime to the wifi tether app.
It is yet to be seen if this is functionality Google is simply not support from this point forward or if this is just an early ICS quirk that will be resolved with a later update.
maby this is the issue
Finnaly this can be solved by having windows vista in infrastructure mode... Windows xp haven't been build to provide such stacks.
I have aquired this tablet all I know is that it says made in china model #m701C and running 4.0.3 kernel ver 3.0.8 intel. when i attemp to download apps such as Facebook, Twitter, Evernote, Photobucket etc... the market tells me device not supported. I then tried to download RadarNow and again got same information, However after emailing them I got a very prompt response and they said it was due to my tablet not having GPS ( which it does not ) and that while the apk file did not need GPS to run it was in the manifest when downloading, they sent me a different apk ( i assume ) after which I installed it and it works great! Thus what are your thoughts on this, ? I know Facebook, Twitter etc,, want your location, I do have the google location services turned on but Iguess that is not enough, is there a way to load apps that can bypass this manifest request etc... Love this lil tablet but if it cant even run facebook , evernote etc.. looks like I got me a tear it apart and look inside project, and info would be greatly appreciated !!
PS small thought I had also was can I flash a rom on the tablet that might resolve the issue ??
I have a similar problem too
Hii I'm new here, I also have this problem.
Google Location Service not working on M701c tablet, tablet has no GPS. I have 2 Android phones that can detect location from WiFi, but the tablet never does on multiple locations.
I like using Google Navigation, but it has been messed up every since they tried to update it and make it better. Since their update to their newer navigation, it no longer works at all. My phone never finds the GPS signal. If I downgrade Google navigation back to how it used to be it works great. But it's a pain because it always updates itself with all my other apps when I update them. I've already researched this problem and it appears to be a well known issue with the new version of the app and now one appears to know how to fix it.
As a result, I was hoping someone on here could make a recommendation for a different GPS app that they think is really good. I would prefer free. But I would be willing to buy one if it really works good. Please let me know what you suggest. Thanks.
Ok, The best two navigation apps which works offline( only GPS needed) are Sygic and City Go
I use Sygic which i feel is the best!

It's been more than a few years since I ran a custom ROM and was happy with the Skyrocket to leave well enough alone for many years.
I did a search and can't find much recent. Can anyone provide any insight to the need to send Google anonymous GPS data (location) just to be able to turn on GPS radio with something like Waze? This wasn't required with the last official ROM, 4.1.2, and I'm curious if this is now a "thing".
Paranoid = pa_skyrocket-4.42-20140708
Gapps = pa_gapps-modular-mini-4.4.4-20140804-signed
Thanks in advance

Nevermind. Figured it out.
There's been a lot of changes to Android since 4.1.2. When I installed Paranoid Android (android 4.4.4), I assumed that "location" setting was a blank check for Google Location Services which I loathe. I guess you can set it up for "device only" which, in fact, enables the GPS radio without prostituting your stuff to Google.
Hello,
I need some help regarding the google maps application. Google maps are a big part of my phone and I always use it to get to places I am not familiar with, so it's a pretty important app to have. I have been using this app for a long time now and I also started to flash firmware and root phones. I am currently flashed to a pre-rooted version of Lollipop 5.0 and now my google maps is not working.
The problem I have is, when I start navigation the arrow or cursor moves into a random area and it glitches out it does not stay with my location, it always drifts off the map and goes into a different location and it's really slow to realize where I am at. I haven't had this problem EVER until now when I flashed my firmware, I am thinking maybe flashing it has something to do with this issue.
I am updated to the latest version and no matter what I do I still can't seem to find the solution as I been looking and doing some research for a while now.
If someone could help me find the solution on how to fix this, you would be a life saver and wouldn't know how to thank you.
