Good evening
I flashed TNT Lite 2.. I was wondering if TNT Lite 4.2.0 is considered an enhancement or a brand new ROM. The reason that I'm asking is that I would like to know if I need to back up and save everything that I have since TNT Lite 2.
If this has been discussed please point me in the right direction
M
not sure what you mean, but tnt is tnt 4.20 + gtab_tnt_lite_v4.25_suppl
no need to backup when flashing the supplement...
Always a good idea to backup, but I just went from 2 to 4.2 (then the 4.25 supplement) without wiping, and no issues.
4.2 is considered a full ROM. I believe Roebeet does supplementals in increments of x.x.x so for instance, 4.2.1 would be the supplemental all the way up to the next full ROM which will be 4.3, then the supplementals for that would be 4.3.1, etc.
I always recommend a wipe before moving through different ROM builds but it isn't 100% necessary all the time. For example, some people move from 4.1 to 4.2 etc. Some from 2.x or 3.x all the way to 4.x however I find that in those scenarios the possibility and probability for issues to pop up increases and is based/caused solely by the upgrade; whereas if someone does a full wipe, these issues either never occur or happen based on actual problems with the ROM itself.
If you read some of the problems with TnT Lite in threads, you'll see where the users skipped wiping their data between builds. Then you find people like me who DO wipe almost always and see that there are no major issues or issues that exist solely in TnT Lite for us. The logical conclusion is that it's a good idea to wipe and reset, especially between big build swaps, eg: 2.x to 4.x just as it is recommended going from 1 ROM to another.
What I did was flash the older version of TNT 2.1 ( I think). I wanted to flash TNT 4.2. Based on your answers I'm going to assume that a backup us necessary.
Hellburger did what I was wondering about. I want to install TNT Lite 4.20 right over TNT Lite 2.1 but I don't want to wipe anything. Hellburger are you still experiencing "No issues" ? Is this a safe practice to flash a newer version of a ROM over an older version?
Sorry I'm running TNT lite v 2.2.0

This question might be a bit late, but it'd still be useful.
I have been going back to stock rom 3855 before switching roms.
Do I really need to do that?
Can I go from vegan 5.1.1 to tnt lite 4.4?
Thanks
Pig,
Is it necessary? I don't know.
But do I go back to stock before installing a new ROM ---- YES.
I have flashed -- loaded -- changed enough stuff on my tablets
to know that an incredible amount of stuff stays on the tablet
even when you think you have deleted/erased/formatted it.
So I go back to stock just to make sure all is in order for the
new install. I also reset the factory data.
But that's just me.
Rev
No its not necessary
I figure enough stuff was erased when I repartitioned it so I tried it directly from vegen 5.1.1 to TNT elite 4.4, it worked that time
It would only be necessary if you were loading TwoTapsX, TnTLite 5.0 or the 3991 UAT. Those require the stock 3588 bootloader.
It's not necessary for most ROM's, tmk (other than the aforementioned TNT Lite 5 / UAT 3991 / TwoTapsX)
However, keep in mind that most of the modders here (myself) don't usually test outside of stock or possibly a previous version of their own mod. So, imo, going back to stock is probably your "safest" route.
I would like to install the Vegan ROM on my G-Tablet. I already have TNT on it now.
Do I have to revert back to factory ROM or can I install Vegan over the current TNT ROM? Thanks.
I got my G-tab with TNT already installed. I just followed the tutorial for installing Vegan 5.1.1 and it all worked fine. Technically, if you follow it completely, when you do the repartioning, it will erase everything that's already on the tab, so, you don't need to manually remove it, but it will get removed...
If I'm wrong, I hope somebody corrects me. All I know is that I didn't to a darn thing, but follow the tutorial.
No troubles moving from TNTLite 1.1
I flashed Vegan Ginger RC1 over TNTLite 4.2.5 (1.1 bootloader) this weekend. Thought I'd give it a try before moving on to a 1.2 based version of Vegan or ML. At the start I wiped only the data, flashed the ROM, but tablet hung at the splash screen for an inordinate amount of time - 30 odd minutes. Went back to the beginning, wiped/formatted the data partition (relying on faulty memory of the actual options in CWM), re-flashed the ROM, and everything is A-OK.
It's an interesting ROM with some nice features and I think I have more exploring to do. The only issue I've had is Pandora FCs right off. May back off to an earlier version of Pandora.
First post for me here but I did exactly that this weekend. Went from TNTLite 4.4 to VeganTab 5.1. Did the repartition, cleared the data caches and installed VeganTab without a hitch. Just remember to back up your apps first.

I did the same thing recently, however I used NVflash to return to stock beforehand. From what I've read it's not really necessary, but you really should consider taking the time now to get NVflash up and running now. It will save you one terrifying afternoon in the future.
My new G Tablet is charging overnight before I flash it ... so while I was checking out my ROM options, I got a little turned around regarding the bootloader. I know that some ROMs are for 1.1 and some for 1.2, but I haven't seen anything about upgrading/downgrading between them.
My new tablet is 1.1, right out of the box, which is to be expected (I think). If I wanted to use clemsyn's Beasty ROM, which requires 1.2, how would that affect CWM? Would I still use v08?
To upgrade/downgrade to/from 1.1/1.2, do I need to remove CWM? And if so, how?
I did some searching on the forums and haven't found anything yet, so I thought I'd post. I can't believe this isn't a duplicate question, but I can't find a thread with this info.
follow this guide to get to 1.2 bootloader 4349 firmware
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1039000
That will install the stock recovery which can be used to flash any roms. CWM just adds options, like partitioning, data wipes, backups, etc.
If you want to flahs CWM AFTER flashing Beasties, then you'll need the 1.2 friendly CWM. .8 will NOT play well with 1.2 You can find it on slatedroid, along with a lot more support for 1.2 roms.
if you ever want to play around with the Honeycomb port (Bottle of Smoke) then you'll need to be on 1.2. I'm running Brilliant Corners, which is a 1.2 version of Vegan 5.1.1, and I'm loving it.
So I've been using Revolver for a few months...
And I saw these new ROMs and I was wondering if they are worthy to switch from Revolver...
(IF anybody tried these ROMs PLEASE post your opinion)
These are the ROMs:
[ROM] CM9 with Cornerstone
[ROM][Nightly][ICS] Team Eos Transformer Nightlies (tf101)
[ROM][ICS] Codename Android v1.5.0
Plus.. I want "Cornerstone" and Revolver doesn't have it!
Thanks in advance...
If you haven't updated to the new revolver 4 then you are still on honeycomb.
And cornerstone is a gimmick right now, it breaks a lot of features and apps don't always run correctly in the cornerstone windows..I will be surprised at this point if cornerstone survives onto android 5.0, google and Onskreen seem to be at odds over it's usefulness and how to implement it into ROMs without breaking market access to keep users from leaving negative feedback for 'broken apps' that don't work simply because they have cornerstone installed. I have a feeling cornerstone is either about to die, or be neutered beyond usability, they have already removed features and hinting at removing more to make it compliant to Google's standards. In other words, enjoy cornerstone, but I wouldn't get dependent on it, it may not be around (at least in the same form it is now) for very long.

No, I'm using Revolver 4
Good to know about that!
I wanted to try those ROMs for myself but it's really troublesome wiping everything then restoring again! which I did twice to get ICS to work! and I still have random shutdowns!
So I wanted to ask if anyone tried them... and how are they compared to the Revolver!
Do a backup of your apps and data, then do a nandroid backup through recovery. If you are currently on HC and then you upgrade to ICS, you will need to make sure that you can go back to your previous HC rom if need be by having a nandroid backup and a way to flash the corresponding HC kernel. The safest way to do this is to perform the nandroid restore through recovery, do not reboot, after restore, then reflash your HC rom's zip file. If you do not have a TF that has sbk1 and can use the nvflash utility, then you run a risk of hard bricking your tf when u try to go back to HC. So the safest bet is to stick with ICS once u upgrade.
Do a full wipe and download and try every rom you are interested in and try them out yourself. Perform the above recovery steps if you want to go back.

I'm on ICS!
I've already backed up everything from TB but It does take a very long time to restore! (250+ Apps)
And to test the ROM properly I have to restore my data and use the ROM for couple of days!
BUT If somebody already tried one of those ROMs then I don't have to do all of that...
Hi,
I am also have a problem with Asus Base ROM as well.
So I change from Revolution HD to EOS nighlies with Cornerstone version 4.
Overall is great, it's very fast. However, I still have some problem of random not-wake up and battery drain after restart.
It may be my individual problems but just for your consideration.
ROM to use
There is always going to be some sort of wok when you are trying out different ROMs.... Somewhat nature of the beast.
I have run revolution HD and codename 1.5 so far and prefer codename at this point. Codename is still being upgraded quite often... So maybe more work than revolution.
According to other threads, these random reboots will probably be in every tf101 ICS rom as they are due to old nvidia drivers delivered by asus.
I know what you mean i have a 12kb/s internet connection and downloading roms to try is a pain. I was on revolver 3 and very happy stable fast and reliable. Upgraded to revolver 4 and had to many small problems and it all seemed a little tired and slow. Tried cornerstone and thought nah! Whats the big deal, cant change window position and half the apps dont work. I am now on codename 1.5 and although their are a few little problems it hasn't reebooted got stuck in a loop or slowed to a crawl. Loads of extra settings and the inbuilt launcher is great. So far impressed and will be sticking with it.
Ok thanks to everyone!
I guess I'm gonna be testing out "Codname" later...
Although I'm still waiting for the Official CM9 to come out!
+1 for codename android
there is the best 3d power for me.

Hello everybody,
I´ve got a Rogers Captivate i896 with Firmware version 2.2 (stock Rogers firmware(Canada), flashed 1 year ago, upgrading from 2.1 stock)
Kernel version 2.6.32.9
Modem version UXJL1
Rooted, unlocked and 1 click Lagfix
I´m on Rogers network.
Problems:
1) Many applications stop working once updated. IM+ version 4.xx works, anything higher crashes on start. Same story happens with LOTS of apps from Playstore, so I´m forced to be careful when updating apps. This is becoming super-annoying.
2)Recently, installed DROIDVPN and TUN.KO installer to use Dell voice on an Unlimited Mobile Browsing plan(crippled data for WAP browsing). It worked beautifully for 1 day, now starting DROIDVPN or TUN.KO makes the phone restart.
3)I´d like to get rid of built-in garbage, most of which I do not use, to have more control over running apps, especially those that hang themselves into start-up.
4) I´d like to get better battery life. I use my phone more and more, I´ve got 2 batteries and and external charger, and yet i sometimes have trouble getting to the end of the day without my phone dying/I]
Solutions.
I imagine that the only explanation for apps that simply refuse to work is that they are designed for newer Android systems. This happened with Skype that didn´t work with Eclair, but does work with 2.2.
Should I upgrade to ICS?
I have some experience flashing, yet I´m far from an expert. What´s the most fail-safe plan of actions? Would the following work:
1)Backup everything using TitaniumBackup
2)Install custom bootloader that would allow me to flash install.zip from external SD card
3)Choose a custom ROM based on user feedbacks, like Cyanogen MOD.
4)Restore all the apps
5)Experiment with different modem firmware to see which gives me best performance
I no longer have time to tinker around in the dark, so I´d like to have a plan before I get started. Any input on the possible solutions to the problems I´m experiencing?
Thank you in advance.

Just a question: why haven't you upgraded to Rogers official GB?
And BTW, ICS is a massive improvement over 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3.
I have a great experience with this ICS Rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1522881
But there are others that are just as good I'm sure.
My 2 cents:
Stay away from ICS. It has the ability to damage your SD card.
Use this post to upgrade to gingerbread. Then use the utility in my signature to get root and cwm. Then choose a GB based ROM that suits your needs. May I suggest Legend?
¨Use this post to upgrade to gingerbread. Then use the utility in my signature to get root and cwm¨
Wouldn´t it be wiser to get clockwork mod before any upgrading just in case things go bad? I vaguely remember using clockworkmod last time I dealt with flashing, isn´t it a loader that allows you to load install.zip from SD card? Or would flashing a new system wipe out the mod as well?
How exactly can ICS damage SD card. Are you talking about the external SD or the built-in SD storage in the phone?
I´ve read partially the threads on Legend and Android Open Kang Project - captivatemtd - Milestone 6. Both sound pretty good. As far as you guys know, which rom is known to give best battery life?
If you're going to upgrade to a custom rom that is Gingerbread or Higher, you will need the Gingerbread bootloaders. That is why I say to go to stock Gingerbread first.
ICS can cause the Encryption Unsuccessful bug as seen here. It will cause you to lose all access to the built-in SD storage. It doesn't happen to everyone, but when it does, you'll wish you had heeded my advice.
