Ok, so i rooted my DInc. a few days ago. For one, I love the open-ness now. Just one question, and yes I have searched for an answer to it before posting on here. I have not put a ROM on my phone or anything, just rooted it and put some apps for rooted phone on it, is it going to damage my phone if I completely un-install the FMRadio app, anyone done this already that can answer ?
As long as you know what the app is and does it is safe to remove it. You have to be careful when removing system apps that you don't know what they are because they might be necessary for your phone to work correctly. But to answer you question...it is safe to remove FM Radio.
Oh yea, make sure you install a recovery and make a nandroid backup before removing anything from the system though. Just in case something goes wrong, you don't want to be stuck without a backup.
Yeah, I'm not about to remove anything that has to do with the system, I'm just gradually trying to get rid of all the stupid apps that came with the phone that won't harm it if they are gone that I don't use.
Very true.
so im having an issues with the phone app on my inspire. im currently running Android Revolution 5.1.10 with radio 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 with matching RIL.
When i try to place a call when inside of the app and clicking on the person that i want to call it will go to the dialing screen and after about three seconds the phone will beep and it will not complete the call. almost as if the call is dropped. i end up repeating the process about three or four times before it actually goes through and i hear ringing. i also intermittently have problems sending text messages. and both of these problems seem to happen at the same time but there is no set schedule for when they will actually happen. im starting to think it might be the radio im using(which is the one recommended on the ARHD thread) but i don't want to re-flash the radio if that's not the issue.
Im also having a problem where after reboots some of my app icons will not show up and it will not show the icon picture meant for it. it will just show the default android icon. ive found that unmounting my sd card and remounting it will fix the issue but it always happens again after i reboot it. The curious thing about this is that i dont have any of my apps installed on the SD card but it seems as if the icon picture is stored on the SD card somewhere and then not getting loaded properly after reboot.
Does anyone have any idea on these two issues? any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have had a very similar problem with my Inspire 4g. From who I have talked to with AT&T it seems to be a network issue in some areas that are using the towers that were, at one time, cingular towers. They have told me it should be fixed in the next couple of months.
thanks for the quick reply! .. i guess i will just wait it out for now.
No problem. I know it's pretty unfortunate that their network still has so many flaws in them. Perhaps if the government would allow the take over of T-Mobile we could see better coverage and network reliability in the near future!

In regards to your icons, the problematic apps are on the phones internal storage or on your SD card?

Hmmm. I know it's a known issue with sense-based roms, that if apps are on the SD, and in a folder, when you reboot, their icons will be the white/green generic. Changing the skin to something else and then changing it back to your preferred skin makes them reappear.
If it is happening to you with apps on internal storage and not in folders, then maybe a full wipe and a reflash?
Have you restored anything from a previous ROM using titanium backup? That can also cause weird things to happen.

i may have to try a full wipe and and reflash then, and then reflash my radio and RIL. i havent restored anything from titanium backup BECAUSE of the problems it causes when you do. i learned that lessen about 90 flashes ago the only thing that i can imagine might be causing it is if somehow the apps actually ARE on the SD and im just dumb. i should add that i didnt perform a full wipe when upgrading from ARHD 10.1.9 to ARHD 10.1.10 but i just downloaded 10.1.11 and i think im going to do a clean install. unless you have any other roms that you can recomend that i might be better off with? i like a close to stock look but i also want the Unity O/C deamon. and no Sense 3.0.

Well, by the looks of it, you're well aware of the virtues of clean installs, so you might as well go with what you're already working with and do the clean install of 10.1.1, and see how that pans out.
I've been running inspired ace for so long, and everything just works, and I don't feel like screwing it up atm, lol, so I can't offer much along the lines of alternative recommendations.

I just wanted to give everyone and update and say that I ended up performing a full wipe on my phone and reinstalling Android revolution 10.1.11 with matching radio and RIL. After the initial setup and putting all of my stuff back on I realized that I was having the same issue with calling. I then went to my installed apps and noticed that I had the call delay patch app installed, uninstalled it and rebooted the phone . Phone is now functioning better than ever ! For now at least lol

Glad to hear it. Another Android Miracle!
Thanks for posting back, I for one like to see how people get things resolved, and it's good for future visitors with similar issues to see how someone worked it out.
I've been on Humble 1.42 for about a month now (please don't look down on me, haven't had time to switch since the drama) and I am starting to have some issues with my phone not waking. At random moments, my screen would refuse to turn on no matter what I do. It does, however, respond to me holding down the power button for a forced power off (hard reset?) Anyhow, has anyone else experienced this at all? I had a feeling it was my xfinity mobile app because I had been getting a lot of errors from it lately even though I rarely ever use it. Should I just switch to another rom or is there any other apps known to cause issues with this rom that I should be aware of?
On a side note, I have been on this forum and obsessed with android for the past year and been doing some serious thinking about making a career change into Android development. Been doing some java tutorials on youtube over the last few months and the such and think I'm about ready to start some real android app development. I credit some of the great developers on this site and the awesome experience at Dreamforce this week as the tipping point. Any ideas on additional resources I should look into?
There are a few things that could be causing this problem(that I'm aware of)
1) You may have sideloaded a "virus" app. I attempted to sideload an app once(will never do it again after what happened..) and it completely BROKE my phone. It made apps unable to isntall, the screen would take FOREVER to wake(if it ever did wake) and plenty of other problems. I tried rebooting and got stuck in a bootloop(boot animation would never end), did a factory reset and everything force closed on me so I was forced to flash the .md5/.pit to go back to bare stock and that finally fixed it.
2) Have you flashed Fuju Tweaks? This exact same thing happened when I flashed it on Gummy2.0, worked fine on Eclipse1.3.1 and even works for a lot of people on Gummy2.0 but it wouldn't work for me.
3) Try reflashing your ROM, that's how I fixed the Fuju Tweaks problem. It might fix whatever plagued your phone.
Just let me know of anything you've done recently and I'll try and diagnose the problem(if I didn't already).
Uh-Oh, a virus maybe? Yeah, I will just reflash later on, and change some passwords while I am at it.
I don't think it was that kind of virus but it definitely screwed up my phone.
I have been experiencing some issues with my phone recently. I have flashed multiple roms and everything was working fine for the past 3 months or so. Last week I flashed Hebrew Valhalla, it worked fine for a few days then all hell broke lose! I started experiencing the following issues with the phone:
1. In calls, people can hear me but I cannot hear them through the front speaker. I have to either put it on speakerphone or use my headphones.
2. Whenever I cannot hear people in calls (issue #1 above) then there is also no sound coming from the back speaker when I play music. It only works with headphones.
3. Sometimes when I play music, sound only comes from the phone's speaker. Yes the tables literally turn! Even if I plug in headphones, it keeps playing through the phone's speaker. I use stock music player no mods nothing and yes my headphones and their jacks are good I tried multiple ones.
4. The screen does not turn off while in calls. I used 2 apps to test the proximity sensor and it is working fine. Sometimes when on a call the screen randomly turns on and off but most of the time it remains on.
5. Although the vibration intensity is set to max, when typing, the intensity is random. Sometimes it is strong, other times it is weak. Completely random and it is only for typing. It works fine for notifications and pressing back button or whatever. The keyboard is swype and it used to work fine before.
SOMETIMES when I reboot the phone, Issues #1,2 and 3 fixes themselves; I can hear people in calls, music works fine both in speaker and headphones when necessary, but issue #4 is persistent.
The phone has not taken any falls/hits or anything, so I doubt it can he hardware related? So I assumed it is software related, I went to flash other roms, including the ones I used previously that was working fine and still nothing!!! I even flashed Heimdall one click and started from scratch, and still the same problems in the stock rom.
I have spent days searching all over to no avail. Please if anyone knows the solution or workaround to any of the issues above it will be greatly appreciated!!!!!
How old is the phone? If I were you and it's still under warranty I would consider a handset exchange through your phone provider, and if you choose that method make sure you go back to stock an unroot first before you send
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA
Cannot do
The warranty has long expired, so that's not an option.
Look for the Gremlin Remover in the Dev section.
Trying
I have been trying for the past 5 hours to get the GR to connect to the phone but it just is not working. I have tried installing and uninstalling all drivers rebooting phone, pc, remove battery everything and it just does not work!!!
The only time GR connects to the phone is when it is starting up, or when the os has loaded up fully. whenever I reboot to download mode it disconnects and never connects back to odin when in download mode. What am i doing wrong? I used the drivers in the GR file but it does not work.
Can anyone link to the drivers that will make odin see the phone while in download mode?
Look at the guide in the second link of my signature. Read the notes about drivers, odin and heimdall. You need to completely, thoroughly and patiently make sure you remove them all.
Go to the wiki for the samsung drivers or use kies mini to install the drivers. ODIN is a samsung software and they use the same drivers.
Still not working
So I found the right drivers and just finished flashing GR twice and the problems are still there. after flashing GR the second time I just flashed Hebrew Valhalla and the problems are still there
I really dont think there is anything else I can do?
Did you do ALL of the steps that Thomas posted? Not just the flashing GR.
Yes I did all the steps: 1, 2 then 3, not the "Filesystem Cleaner" part.
You have nothing to lose doing all the steps.
Ok I will do the Filesystem Cleaner part now and update in a while
EDIT:
I installed the android SDK to connect to adb. Thomas's instructions says to go to recovery mode, but the pc only see's the phone as adb when the phone is booted up in normal mode, not when it is in recovery mode.
I used the universal driver installer, is there specific adb drivers for recovery mode?
So before I got the adb to work I kept rebooting the phone and pushed and removed the headphones in the headphone jack multiple times and I was suprised everything started working. I could how hear people in calls, the screen turned off fine during a call, music worked fine. Rebooted again and everything still worked fine! My memory card was formatted so I copied back some of the files that were on it (music, pictures and apk installers for certain apps, and titanium backup folder). I went to install my apps from the apk's not titanium backup, so I did not restore any data just fresh install the apk's....
.....Rebooted the phone and all the problems came back!!!! I tried uninstalling the apps and reboot multiple times but the problems remained, so I said I will try the entire process again.
Ok so I found the drivers and completed ALL the steps now including the adb stuff and the filesystem cleaner. The status was already clean but I still ran the cleaner just to be safe. Then I flashed Gremlin Remover again and the problems still exist. I flashed Octane 3, problems still exist. flashed Hebrew Valhalla and the problems were still there...rebooted multiple times and the incall volume is working FOR NOW, but the screen does not turn off anymore.
I pushed the headphones in and out many times as it worked the first time but it made no difference now. I really do not know what more is there to do
How are calls just using your phone? No headphones. If things were fine before restoring your sd card shouldn't that tell you there is a good chance something on your sd card is messing with your phone?
You should start over again. Be thorough. Do all the Gremlin Remover steps. Leave your sd card fresh after format. Install apps one at a time with time between from the playstore. Don't mess with your headphones yet. And see what state your phone is in.
It could be your phone. An app. Your sd card or some data on it. Or your headphones. Process of elimination.
Do you have accidental damage insurance? Hammer anyone?lol
Seriously though, with using the gremlin remover and system cleaner processes, everything bad should have been removed. However, you stated that the problems reoccoured after restoring your sdcard. My guess would be either a virus (yes it is possible to get a virus or malicious file on our phones) or a corrupt file/files that is contained in your files that you restored to your sdcard. As much of a pain in the ass it may be, you should restore each file one by one and test. Once the issue reoccours, then you know what is the cause. there are some directories/files you should not restore:
Code:
.android_secure
.cache
Android
CachedImages
data
gps
LOST.DIR
temp
tmp
Voodoo
and any folders that pertain directly to any apps you use like 360launcher, goweather, etc.
As lumin said, everything worked fine until you restored your sdcard...

Sadly, this is where I am right now. I did start all over again, formatted the card and only put Hebrew, Octane and Anton's kernel. This is all that is on the card, when I installed them some of the default folders were created. I am yet to put anything else on the memory card, and at the time of this typing I only have basic market apps installed, nothing from transferring from pc to memory card or anything.
1. I have fully cleaned the system using all the steps in GR so I doubt the problem can be with the software on the phone.
2. I doubt it can be an app causing it because even after restoring the official rom just after GR it still does not work.
3. I am not sure if it can be the memory card, since I formatted it so many times, if it had a virus shouldn't it be gone by now? Not sure, just asking. I have some other memory cards handy I will format them and start back from square one again to see how it goes.
4. As for the headphones, I tried different headphones all the same thing. If anything then the problem about the incall sound might be with the headphone port itself. Maybe the phone's hardware or something in that port got stuck or something just something that is making the phone detect a headphone when there is actually none, maybe that's why...that's the most plausible thing I can think of relating to the incall and music volume. Now since I pushed it and out multiple times that maybe fixed it? Not sure..
As for the screen not going off I have no idea; so I will do everything again using a new memory card, not restoring anything, only install market apps one at a time and let you know how it goes.
I followed all the instructions down to the last letter. Did everything over. Removed battery left for some time. Formatted new memory card and only put the cleaner, one mp3 song for testing, Octane and Anton's kernel on it. Did the adb cleaning. Flashed Gremlin Remover. Left for 15 min. Flashed Octane and then Anton's kernel. Reboot and waited 15 min. Did not install anything whatsoever. First thing I did: make a call and play the mp3 file and suprise!! All the problems were still there. Nothing changed. Screen still remained on, no sound in call, no sound from music player; only through headphones like in square 1. Pissed off to the max.
I quit.

Honestly, if you did all that, your device should be running it's best ever... You may have some sort of hardware malfunction. Even after trying different ROMs you still have the same issues correct?
I can tell you, I started experiencing some really bad things (not near as bad as yours) after I flashed a ROM WIP, and it took me several flashes to get my phone up and working again. But the only thing that was even remotely hardware related was the mis-calibration of the screen... I have to say, your problem is one of a kind...
However, have you tried pulling a logcat to see if by some chance there was something in there?

I don't know anything about logcat and how to interpret it. I see nearly 20k lines of text when I did it, what exactly should I look for?
I added it to my dropbox account if it is going to be helpful, here is the link:
This is the logcat I saved from my phone. Click it
I'm almost positive that it's some mechanical/electrical problem with the headphone jack. Something is stuck there, or it's dirty, so the controller erroneously detects like something is always plugged in. Hint: you said earlier that it suddenly started working when you were actively plugging-unplugging headphones.

Yes I believe so too. I will try to open the phone to see what I can find concerning the headphone issue.
What about the screen not going off? Any suggestions?
Hello,
I have ran into some rather severe complications of rooting my LG G3 and I don't know where to find the needed information to repair the damage done to my advices functionality.
Okay so to summarize what led to my phones current state I had to downgrade the firmware to vs98510b to root the phone. The downgrade and rooting went fine, however once I got root access I decided to remove a good portion of the bloatware software on the phone to try and increase performance and security. I used a root access level program to uninstall a total of 42 bloatware apps installed by LG and Verizon. After I rebooted the device I discovered that somehow the lg keyboard had been removed with the other bloatware, seeing as thats the only keyboard app installed by default I basically had no on screen keyboard at all in order to fix that I had to use bluetooth to send a keyboard apk to my phone to install.
After I finally got my keyboard back and functioning again I discovered that my phone was no longer being detected when plugged into my computer. on the phone it stated that I needed to install the USB drivers or plug and unplug the device back in to fix the issue, it would not get resolved by either method. So I looked more into what apps had been removed when I removed the bloatware and it looks like the file manager, keyboard and a few other apparently important bloatware had been removed.
If I connect the phone to the computer adb claims no device is connected, and if I boot the phone into download mode it never goes past 0% however it wont get detected by my computer itself at all. From what I have found so far it appears I need to flash the phone back to the complete stock state to get the bloatware reinstalled, however without a pc connection about 99% of the tutorials I have found cannot be used since it wont connect to the pc anymore. I am completly stuck and need advice and possibly a set of links to read on or guide to follow to repair the phone. Finally the last thing I noticed was the phone battery status cannot be detected through the android ui I have to actually use different battery monitoring software just to even know the correct charge level.
I look forward to yours alls response .
Hi,
Here's a dedicated help thread in your device section that you can ask for help in,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/help-thread-lg-g3-question-t2947298
Also, you really need to know what you're debloating. One wrong thing and you're in a mess. A way to try to avoid this is using titanium backup to freeze bloat, instead of uninstalling it. Then if you're able, you can always unfreeze if you need to. Uninstalling is not gaining you much space, as those apps tend to be very small in size. ?
Good luck!
Okay you may lock this thread now since you redirected me to the correct forum
You can lock this thread if you like since you linked me to the correct forum/thread regarding this issue .
Thanks for the help
PS I attached the list of all my system apps currently on the phone I removed 42 total system apps, however I am unsure as to which ones they were as when I went to fix the problem I factory wiped the phone to try and repair the issue. However, after trying that I basically narrowed the issue down to needing to flash the stock rom back onto the phone to get the bloatware back. I would have to do it all from the phone though without the computer since some of the bloatware I removed makes it unable to connect to my computer now .
Ask for help in the link I gave.
But I'll say, you removed many things that I don't know what they are for. So chances are you don't know what they're for either.... A number of them could be causing you issues.
Never debloat things you are unsure of. You want to know exactly what they are for, and know that they are safe to freeze.
And again... Freeze them, don't uninstall them... That's my opinion anyway. All of those combined take up very little space. ?
I did actually ask for help in the other thread I just wanted to give you the curtousy of replying to your questions.
In regards to the removal of the bloatware itself. I have never had a rooted or even rootable phone before, bloatware removal in computers never negatively effected me thats why when I did a rather short set of searches regarding to the apps I removed they seemed like they would be fine to remove, however the effects made things I didnt remove not function aswell. I have learned my lesson if I want to avoid bloatware I am better off installing a custom rom and recovery than messing with the android bloatware integreted in the stock firmware.
You can close this thread
Well after a few days of what I can only describe as a nightmare I did manage to repair my phone back to a stock state, I even managed to get a customer rom on it called Ressurrection Mod!
Woot woot overcame my epicfail!!!
EDIT: In case anyone wants to know how I resolved the situation my fiances phone me and her got the same exact phones and models. When I rooted her phone last night the idea came to me to use a Nandroid backup from her phone to overwrite the data on my phone to restore all the bloatware. After doing so my phone is back to functioning correctly again! . All I had to do was rename the backup from her phone to match the generated hash on my phone so that TWRP would recognize the backup!!!
