I'm new to custom roms and flashing. I tried to flash a new rom on my droid last night, but I keep having issues. I've been searching through forums all night, and while there was help for similar issues, nothing I've tried has worked for me. I've tried flashing different roms and different kernels, but I have the same issue every time. In my eagerness to jump in, I stupidly forgot to backup my phone, so any help that doesn't include wiping the phone would be greatly appreciated.
edit: the problem is an infinite boot loop.

Hello everyone,
I was hoping someone could help me out with a bit of a problem I'm having here. I'm becoming rather scared and a bit desperate.
I just tried to install cm6 onto my nexus one, which I have done on a previous nexus one without any problem. I unlocked the bootloader, flashed amon ra's recovery image, and then updated the radio. I did all of this manually, not using clockwork or anything of the sort. I proceeded to install cyanogen's and google's addons, and everything seemed to go smoothly. I rebooted the phone and it got stuck in a bootloop. It flashes the nexus boot image and then the blue cyanogen one but just gets stuck there and tries to go at it again, failing every time. I have repeated this entire process twice, both times making sure I wiped the data and the cache, and the same unfortunate event has happened both times. Please could anyone help me out here?! I really need someone's help right now. I'm kind of panicking.
Thank you everyone for your replys. Any help is welcome help! I'm fairly knowledgable with ADB and rooting. I've been doing it quite a while now.
CM6 is very beta at the moment. If you're running one of the RC builds, try flashing a nightly build. It might make things better (or worse).
I've noticed other people seem to be having this same problem and there hasn't really been a distinct solution that I can see, so hopefully this question will be helpful in the future and not repeatative.
I've been trying to update to CM7 from CM 6.1.2 on my Evo. I followed instructions from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=902051 and downloaded all the recommended software. First I tried to just flash the rom, then the kernal, then the gapps. All seemed well at first, and I got past the Evo 4G screen, but it got stuck booting on the Cyanogen animation (the arrow just keeps going!)
Then I tried to wipe the Davlik-Cache, and rebooted again. I left the phone alone for about 45 minutes, and it still got stuck on the Cyanogen animation.
Finaly, after searching through the forums, I found another post which suggested I do a hard reset then flash the rom, kernal and gaaps then clear the cache and davlik-cache. Still, I'm stuck on the animation. I have a nandroid backup, so I can get back to 6.1.2, but I'd really like to get CM7 working, anything else I should try?
You should't have to do the kernel separately unless you have a specific reason for doing so the ROM comes with a kernel for you. I had a similar problem with my HTC however I was able to get it resolved by installing gapps. Here's what I did -->
Used ROM Manager to go back to working ROM
From working ROM, accessd ROM Manager and chose rebooted into recovery mode
Once in recovery cleared/wiped everything (cache, data, delvik) installed gapps then cm7
Restarted
It did take awhile after restart to get going however once it did it worked marvelously!
Hope this helps and good luck!

Similar Problem, Defy CM7 Bootloop
The first time i tried installing CM7 I got a boot-loop. I have tried at least 7 different tutorials all with different variations of flashing this and wiping that yet none yield results. Still stuck at boot-loop.
The most recent thing i have done was used RSD Lite to flash
"JRDNEM_U3_3.4.2_179-002_DEBLUR_SIGN_SIGNED_UCAJRDNEMARAB1B80AA03A.0R_PDS03C_USAJRDNFRYORTCEE_P016_A016_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf"
this got my phone running again, i then pulled off some magic by rooting using a combination of super1click, Z4 and installing superuser myself. after that i copied the files for a bootmenu into my /data/ folder. using CWM Recovery v2.5.1 flashed
"freq_F_US_342_107-850-1700-2100-signed.zip"
to get my 3G running again, and gave up of CM7.
If anyone has anything that could help id appreciate it.
(ps. i've tried many variations of wiping things and re-flashing things)
Hey there,
I have an interesting problem, and it has completely stumped me for the past couple days. I recently S-Off'd my Sensation, put cwm recovery on it, and set my CID to 11111111.
I haven't had any problems with that (except that I had to change computers to do it, Revolution didn't want to run right on my laptop or set the CID, so I had to use my desktop).
Now the problem comes when I try to flash a custom ROM. The first one I tried flashing was CM7. When it booted, I got a bootloop problem of the CM7 mod logo over and over. I decided maybe it was a problem with CM7 still being in alpha. Then I tried flashing HyperSensation 1.8, and got the same error (bootloop) on the loading screen. After trying various other ROMS, I realized that it was a common problem with all custom ROMS. Luckily I had backed up the stock setup, and was able to get into that. So it's not a problem with the hardware. I have only tried flashing gingerbread ROMS. I know that ICS ROMS need a new firmware, but I dont want to mess with that unless I can actually get a gingerbread ROM working first...
Any ideas? There was a thread or two about this (on other phones) but didn't have any solutions listed..
Thanks for any ideas people can give me!

Hi,
Did you root your phone?
Did you flash the superwipe zip first?
Also are you getting full reboots with HTC splash screen then animation or just the animation looping? Sometimes I have to let mine loop for 5 minutes after first boot of new rom before it settles.

I guess I hadn't done everything.. I didn't factory reset before flashing the new ROM... As soon as I did that it boot right in. That's a bit odd to me, as I didn't have to do that with my last phone.
Anywho, solved.

So I finally took the plunge to AOSP since I have my note 2 to run stable. First thing I noticed was that the camera got a "can't connect to the camera" error. Fixed permissions, wiped multiple times, tried a couple different AOSP roms and nothing, so I looked deeper and found some file replacements for the data folders, tried that and still nothing. Wiped again flashed a stock rooted image and still nothing, so last resort was 2 different stock rooted and not-rooted images through ODIN. Successful flashes of both and still no camera.
I am stumped i thought my fail safe ODIN would work but it didn't if anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.
p.s. my bootloder is unlocked.
::UPDATE::
Ok so after continuing the troubleshoot finally stumbled upon something. After restoring a stock ODIN of ICS from when i first got the phone I let Verizon run through and do its update and after it finished VOILA my camera's working. I honestly don't know how it happened but nothing else had worked, now i have to go through and unlock root and get a custom ROM again. hopefully this can help someone if this happens to them.
I have rooted last week when the custom ROM for Android L came out, been jumping between a few different threads so unavoidably flashing between them. At the end I started getting reboots after flashing k900's 19/11 version, and decided to flash PA 4.4.4. This did not help the issue, I was still getting reboots. As a result of really tired of custom ROMs, I flash back to stock (100%) CM11S. Been on it for about one day, and I already seen 3 reboots. They seem random from what I can find out.
I was wondering if anyone has similar issues, or knows the cause of this problem?
Possible causes:
Could flashing too many ROMs harm the device?
I also had to flash the recovery multiple times (around 8, because I wanted to get TWRP to work), could this damage the device?
I am aware that back on stock for one day is still pretty early to say it won't fix itself, but since I have had similar issues with past devices after flashing custom ROMs I kind of want to know asap so I can contact OnePlus.
I will keep this thread updated, hopefully it will help someone else even if the issue is not fixed.
