Superoneclick - HTC Inspire 4G

Can it be used to root and sideload the inspire?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

No. Make a gold card and either do attn1's hack kit or bubby's easy 1 click GUI.

If you just want to sideload then you won't need root, just use the Sideload Wonder Machine. If you want root then you'll have to use one of the two methods that gunny mentioned, there's no Superoneclick. If you go with bybby's tool it should take you less then 30 minutes to root.

Nope. If there was, it would be all over the dev section.
The hack kit is very simple, just takes a little patience.
Hack kit is the best, read the instructions there r videos on you tube that are also very helpful

I rooted with the GUI method from Bubby, and it was very easy to follow. You do have to temporarily downgrade the ROM before restoring it to the stock AT&T one, but you're guided through the process. I recommend it.
Thank you so much! I was wondering if I had to do the gold card thing and what is s-off??

Either way you do it, with the hack kit or the one-click, you'll still need a gold card. S-off is is security off. It allows you to flash custom ROMs/Kernels/Radios
If all you're looking for is sideloading, the sideload wonder machine will do this without root
Windows
MAC/Linux
I have been using the side load wonder machine and if I root will I be able to sideload right on my phone without the side load wonder machine?

Control. You control what your phone is able to do, not ATT.
Getting rid of the bloatware, ads, sideloading (amazon app store, anyone?), and of course, as mentioned, custom roms.

If all you want is free tethering follow this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=960058&highlight=wifi+tether). Keep in mind - free means you don't have to pay the additional fee to ATT, but the data that's used while using wifi hotspot will still count against your data. The link to Bubby's 1 click has already been posted. Here's attn1's original hack kit (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352) thread which was the original root method. Bubby's method packs this into a GUI
To the OP:
I don't know if there's a way to confirm whether or not your gold card was created successfully other than attempting to downgrade the ROM. If the downgrade completes, then you created a good gold card.
Pretty curious myself. Just starting the research phase as far as rooting goes.

Not sure on the visionary method... All I have read on the G2x forums pertains to using a computer.
Visionary only pertains to those HTC devices with that nand-protection You'll need a computer to root
Ok I found one to use today after work... Damn we don't have much development support for this phone...

Ok it my thunderbolt I want root

Not really sure what you're asking but both of the root methods used for the thunderbolt require the use of a computer. I personally recommend Jcase's method because it gives you insight to the way the tb works and basic adb experience.

Need more details. Are you asking about 2.3.5, 2.3.6, 4.0.4, or 4.1.2? MB865, or ME865?
Brought to you but time and relative dimensions in space.

No. Quoted from the instructions in the linked thread:
"Boot into ICS, and root using the zip below, you will connect the phone to your computer and use the root.bat (unzip this folder to your desktop) for windows and root.sh for linux/mac."

And what would be the way to unlock bootloader and install recovery? I've had a hell of a time finding the thread, and didn't want to start a thread because it's a stupid question and I'd find it eventually...

You can't unlock the bootloader on this phone.
You will want to install BMM or bootstrap. BMM is in the play store and bootstrap is in the dev section.
ONLY INSTALL ONE OR THE OTHER, NOT BOTH!!!
Read up and decide which you like better, everyone has different needs. I personally like bootstrap better, because of the choices in ROMS that I tend to use, some ROMS work with BMM better than others, and you may have to do some work to use the multi booting features of BMM.

Both BMM and bootstrap (bootstrap is a version of CWM, that uses our system partition and a hack to boot it), allow you to flash zips (both hacks and ROM zip files).
Again please do some reading about both to see which is right for you.
