Hey guys. I know I'm posting this in here so I assume bias answers will come aboutt but I'm switching to att and I cannot decide between the two. What do you think? I know the atrix isn't very rootable or romable but has amazing specs. But the inspire is, and is a beautiful device. What are your opinions? How easy is the inspire to root?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Depends on if you prefer the allure of a dual core processor over end user customization and superior build quality.
Rooting the Inspire is very easy if you can follow the instructions exactly as they are written.
Have both myself and the atrix is going back. Everyone has their preference for what they want in a phone and I really wanted to like the atrix but I don't see the benefit at this time of dual core when it comes at the expense of customizing. I am somewhat biased toward sense as well even though I don't always use sense roms, it is nice to have the option. The inspire is a great phone and I know I won't get bored given the variety of roms that are, or will be available.
Battery seems to be a topic that comes up but honestly I have been getting great results with the inspire. 13 hours off charger today and dropped to 68%. Light day for me, only an hour of display time and few minutes of calls but everything left to sync every hour. One major thing I have noticed is that even if you do find you need to recharge, the inspire charges quickly, even using computer usb, while the atrix takes a lot longer and is painfully slow if you are not using a regular outlet to charge.
Been covered before, but the inspire really is the better device. MOTO kinda screwed the atrix up with software.

100% agree. I returned my Atrix for the Inspire, and I'm glad I did. Inspire has a much more polished and functional user interface.
New root tools now available here should make rooting easy.
As said before it depends on what you want.
Phone with awesome specs or Phone with awesome dev support and a great UI
Both phones are awesome in their own right, but for me its all about having control of my phone and being able to do what I like to it.
In all honesty I'd wait for a dual core phone till HTC makes one. This is my first HTC coming from a blackberry bold. I don't think I'll ever not go with HTC again...
edit: Baaa I sound like a fanboy.....
okay, i appreicate your help guys. i guess now im just trying to figure out when i get the phone, how to root. ive been looking at this for simple s off and root(which is all i want for ROMing and using OC kernels). has anyone had luck with this, and or was it rather easy?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961406
I just used the hack kit to root. Not hard if you just follow the instructions and only takes 45 minutes after you get all the files downloaded.
Just returned my Atrix back to Radioshack and got the Inspire!! Just as everyone said here, if you want something good on paper but with no real use, then the Atrix is for you, but if you want a proven phone with an unlocked bootloader for ROMS etc... then this is the the right choice...
Although I lost my front facing camera, i figured I rarely used it anyways, so no biggie for me. I also didn't like the smaller icons on the Atrix. Even though it has less RAM and i less core, it still performs pretty dang fast..
Quadrant scores with a good amount of apps. without OC or anything stock is still hitting: 1807
Color looks much better too on this screen..... glad I switched to this phone instead. I am sure I will get a better dual or quad core in the next year but until then this will do....
Bye Motorola...except for the Xoom..that looks like a good choice though.
Your asking this in the inspire forms, of course everyone will say the inspire is better. If you asked this in the atrix forums you'd get the opposite response I've had both and returned the inspire. It isn't a bad phone but it has horrid battery life and no internal sd storage. It has great roms and OCs like a monster but OC and bad battery life just compound the problem. I can see why people would choose one or the other, it really just depends on what you're looking for.
I'm not sure if this is true or not, but a guy on Reddit said he was talking with a Motorola Representative and the Rep. told him that the Atrix doesn't use both cores at the same time. One is for the phone and the other is just for the laptop dock. Maybe someone else has more info on this.
Wow, another reason Im happy I stuck to my guns and got this phone.

so if I use bubbys GUI, that will allow me to sideload apps? Or ill need to put a rom that allows that? Or what is the sideload wonder machine? I'm sorry for all the questions, the htc vision is a lot more simple.

Used hack kit on my inspire and bubbys on my wifes. not as easy as samsung galaxy s, however not difficult if you follow the directions to the letter lol. my only issue with buys was total user error on my part lol. ended up making 32 gb class 4 gold card instead of the already made 4 gb gold card I had.

If you just want to sideload, you can use Sideload Wonder Machine. If you want root and custom roms use one of the hack kits.

I actually have both phones. I love both of them for different reasons.
Atrix - Works well once you change launchers. Fast and smooth. I actually like the smaller icons and all. But I use this phone mostly as a personal backup phone. But it works well and is crystal clear with a strong signal. MUCh MUCH better than my old cappy.
Inspire - My work phone, thank GOD I work from home and can have it plugged in most of the time. When I travel I have to have the Atrix just in case I cant get juice on the road. But, the inspire is awsome, not as fast but "good enough" for me. Love the size and color of it and the sense ui just works for me. I can tell which pocket has what phone based on bulk and weight. Very nice quality phone. Plus, I had a cappy, and we all know what we did almost every day. Loaded custom roms, played and even bricked a few but its so addicting.
If I had to go purchase one today, knowing what I know, Inspire would be my first choice, Again I own both and love both but first choice for the pure fun and joy it would give me the INSPIRE wins hands down.
Got my inspire today. Mixed feelings so far. Have to admit i kind of miss my captivate a little.
I think the inspire screen size is perfect. But i miss the superamoled. I don't know if its just me but my screen has horrible viewing angles and also seems to have too much of a grey color to it.
If samsung brings out the infuse soon i might give it a shot. This being my first htc maybe i should give it more time. Might return it for another one to see how the screen looks.
As far as the atrix goes, they couldn't pay me to use that phone. Played with one a little today, it's more hype than anything imo.
I like the form of the inspire, it feels solid, not iphone4 solid but very close. I hope rooting and everything gets easier.
Someone smarter than Me should start selling goldcards for this phone. Id be 1st in line for one.

I had both phones - inspire is the best phone I have ever had. It made the atrix look like a toy. iPhone 4 has a better camera, but thats about it.
Inspire all the way. Galaxy S 2 is looking good though, if it ever comes out.
Edit: How can anyone with an Atrix and Inspire say the inspire is slower? The atrix is the definition of a neutered turtle. That thing is clunky and useless.

I'm also a psu fan. I hope that they let Joe stay on the sideline forever. Hell he should be buried there.
Back on topic, my opinion if the atrix is that it is basically a moto iphone that is not as good as the 4 but somewhere inbetween a 3 gs and the iphone 4.
As far as the inspire goes, it needs a better screen in my opinion but maybe i just got a bad one. I'm taking it back today to try another one and if its the same then i may just wait for the infuse to come out.
If you look in the atrix forum it appears that the majority are giving up on it already.
Dg got rid of his and i think but don't quote me in this, he said he doesn't think the locked will ever be broken in to which leads me back to my iphone reference. Same thing, you can root (jailbreak) it but not much else.

So I was offered the following phone for my Captivate and I am not sure what device is the better out of:
My Captivate, running 2.2 (Official, Canada), locked to Rogers.
His Desire Z, running 2.2 (Official), Unlocked.
Should I trade the guy? Both phones are in like new condition, though I still have my box and he does not.
Is the Captivate more powerful then the Desire Z?
What is the better phone in your opinion? I need help and the guy wants to trade at 10:30am tomorrow...can't decide! I am so torn and know NOTHING about the Desire Z.
Only take the desire Z if you want a qwerty keyboard badly, otherwise choose the captivate.
Sense is laggy as hell and they dont have developers like supercurio voor lagfix, sound etc. Also I dont kbow about the screen.. We have Samoled, the Z had slcd, which makes our display a nicer, brighter display. It also could be a faulthy model, in the early releases there was a production error which caused the slider system to crumble down.
Sooo would you take the desire Z only for its keyboard and the laggy sense?

I believe the Desire Z is actually called the G2 made by HTC.
This link will take you to phonescoop to compare the two phones.
My opinion for what its worth, stick with the 4 inch super amoled screen. Nothing really compares to it right now as far as deep blacks and rich colors. If the screen doesn't sway you, you could look at the processor. The captivate weighs in with 1000MHz, the G2 with 800Mhz. Not to mention I'm not a fan of slide out keyboards. Up to you though

the screen on your captivate is far nicer than that of the desire z. Its a nice phone, a guy at my work has one, but when put beside my cappy, it looks like the always in super dim mode or something.
IMO keep the Captivate
I would not trade. You know nothing about the other phone and have not given any reasons for getting rid of the Captivate. Why trade to another phone that you know nothing about?
Stick with the Captivate and put a Design Gears rom on it. With Perception 10.1 I'm getting amazing speed, gps accuracy, and battery life.
Well this is how this all came about...
I love my Captivate, my wife does not really like hers. So I posted an ad saying that I wanted to trade a Captivate for either an iphone 4 or a BlackBerry Torch...
This guy wrote me, offering the Desire Z. He doesn't even want the phone for personal use. He is 50+ years old and works for a publishing company. His company just did some work with 5 Smart phones and he sold the rest other than the Desire Z.
We have been talking all day and he sent some pics...the phone still has the plastic on the keyboard, its been used for a whole 5 minutes. He wants to trade so he can do some stuff with the Captivate, as they just sell the phones for whatever they can get afterwards.
So yeah...its like new, but so is mine. I was never interested in the Desire Z but it looked cool so I thought I would gather some opinions. Thats all : )
Well if the desire z is the htc g2 then I have an opinion.
First off I have the captivate and love it and I would keep it over the g2 for 2-3 reasons which ill get to.
I got a g2 for my wife and she's had it for about 2 months. I play with it all the time because there's something about it that attracts me to it. Idk I think I just really like the design. Its a sweet phone for sure. the numbers on quadrant and linpack for the g2 (stock) are way better, linpack 32 and quadrant 1620, if that really means anything. 800mhz is no big deal really considering were on this forum and everyone has custom roms and they have roms for the g2 that overclock to 1.8ghz. The battery life on the g2 is better than the captivate I don't care what numbers say the g2 goes the distance. The picture quality is better. Slide out keyboard is pretty cool to me but I know some don't care. But typing on my phone right now I only see the little tiny text window cause the virtual keyboard and the g2 with the physical keyboard you get the whole screen which is great. I personally think the g2 looks cooler but don't get me wrong my cap is sexy. Maybe some other reasons I like it can't think of right now.
As for the captivate and reasons why I would keep it. Well me and this phone have a special bond and id just feel bad disowning for it another lol. Ok real reasons. Screen of course is better. Gorilla glass. Seems more durable. Way more picture options, way more...I mean way more. Better hd video quality. Easier to root and probably put roms on too. More internal memory. Usb cover, I really think that is just going above and beyond, way to go samsung. Bigger screen size is nice but is gonna use more battery. Micro sd slot is accessible without removing battery. Maybe some other reasons for this but I can't think of em right now. I guess that was more than 2-3 , whatever.
I've been a loyal follower of dg's roms but recently switched to paragon 5.0 and am loving it all around and battery life is great and it looks frickin sweet. Go green.
As for you wife. She probably would like the g2 better mine does but as for you idk its your call they're both sweet but you might regret losing all the great things I described about the capt.
Oh yeah g2 has a nice flash and real gps.

Really awesome reply man, very insightful and I want to thank you for that...
I think if I got rid of the Cap I would regret it. I researched for weeks, tons of videos and reviews, and when I finally got the Cap it was amazing. I am drawn to the look of the Desire 2 or g2 whatever you want to call it, but I would definatly miss the Cap.
I am running official 2.2 but would like to run a custom ROM, I just have no clue how to go about learning it. Is it difficult? I do have an exstensive back ground in electronics (16 years computer repair, 2 years CG Development with Maya, etc) Would messing with custom ROMS be very difficult? I just have never looked into it lol
It can take a while to learn if your new. If I was gonna tell you in a quick summary... you should first figure out how to get into download mode and recovery mode. If you dont know just ask ill tell ya. Pick the rom you want put it on your internal sd. Get the clockwork recovery file on your internal sd too and renamed it to "update". You can find it here somewhere if not ask someone. When you have the rom you want and clockwork recovery file on your sd you get your phone into recovery mode select reinstall packages (power button selects and volume moves up and down) select reinstall packages again and it will put you in clockwork recovery. Then go to "apply/ choose zip from sd" select the rom you picked and that's basically it.

There should be a nice sticky tellibg you how to flash a rom
Otherwise it id almost always in the rom post! Just use the search or look around a bit and if you have questions than ask! I have a really small amount of knowledge of coding but this is my 4th smartphone and I flashed them all, so it shouldn't be too dificult
Happy flashing~

IMHO, roadrash7 hit the nail on the head.
I went from a Vibrant (BELL), to a Desire Z (coz the Vibrant kept dying), then to Captivate for the reasons roadrash7 presented, and I've never regretted my decision. Except for the GPS part. Call me lucky, but the GPS on my Captivate gets an accurate lock under 30 seconds even when I'm not on WIFI.
Why would you regret trading away the captivate? I thought your wife is the one that wants to trade away her captivate. You need to find out what she doesn't like about the captivate and determine if the desire z has what she wants.
For flashing, you're comfortable around computers so you'll be ok once you read everything. Follow the instructions for what you want to do and you'll soon be comfortable customizing your device.

Yeah I checked with her first and she didn't want the Desire Z. I don't think she likes Android because its so customizable...I know that doesnt make sense but she wants something simple like her old iphone 3gs. Its so stupid IMO
I downloaded the gingerbread launcher off the market place for her last night, and downloaded some fun social widgets for her. I hope she might enjoy the phone a bit more now...I dont know, I am trying to show her she can really make the phone her own, you know?
since you are running rogers 2.2 i'd recommend to get started you do the following...
do not use the odin one-click methods out there to return to stock like a lot of the posts say to do. This is for ATT users... You will lose your 3 button recovery. This can be fixed however. Easiest way to get started flashing with rogers is follow directions i made in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925201
If none of this makes much sense right now, just do some research, and know that its not as difficult as it may appear.
Ok. I have had the inspire since it came out and I think its a huge upgrade from the captivate. My question is, for another $50 should I go to the Atrix?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
For another 50? It will cost me 100 more plus the 35.00 restoring fee. And I'm buying one today to compare to my inspire. I love the inspire but the atrix also looks nice so going to see which one I keep. The inspire screen looks much bigger than the 4.0 on the atrix, I have to see if it will make a difference web browsing n watching movies.
I'm keeping both for a while. Absolutely love the inspire, but those specs on the atrix are just too irresistible.
Yeah with an available upgrade you can get an atrix for $149 from radioshack. I went from a cappy to a surround to a focus (wp7 needs alot of work) to an inspire. I love it but the screen has some touch issues and it has locked up on me a few times. So I am a little concerned about that. Plus dual core is hard for a nerd like me to ignore.

I know dual core, but will the Atrix be LTE compatible?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
I loved the atrix at first. Then I tried my inspire. For me at least Android without htc sense just feels like something is missing. I came from a nexus one to nexus s to iPhone 4 and now to my inspire. The atrix seems like As close as you'll get to a pure Google experience on at&t at least. I'm tempted to check one out only because of the awesome screen and hdmi out. But thats bot enough to make me switch from my sense to motoblur. That's the deal breaker for me... if only the inspire had a fingerprint reader
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
That is a very good point about LTE. It may be a monster of a phone but there is definitely no LTE support that I have read about. From my understanding AT&T will be putting out LTE phones this year but not for a while.
Also good to know about motoblur. I am a huge, HUGE, fan of Sense. I came from samsung's horrible touchwiz so sense has completely restored my faith in android. I have read several reviews that were not to keen on motoblur and I don't want to get caught up in constant rom flashing like I was with the captivate. Seems like everyday i was flashing a new rom and that just got old.
Either way, I will never go back to the iPhone. Not unless they make major improvements to their OS. But thats for another thread.
unless I am mistaking the Inspire doesn't have LTE support either, right?
Inspire might not be LTE compatible either, but It's half the price and had a bigger screen.

Yeah, I loathe motoblur. I just got the atrix and I hate it as much as everyone else that I've read. The first thing I'm doing is loading on ADW Ex....
And sense is amazing. It should be the standard on android.
Just came from an AT&T store to handle the Atrix and the 1st impression was WOW, small screen, maybe because there's hardly any bezel it makes the screen seem dwarfish. When I placed it alongside the Inspire it was noticeably smaller. I honestly don't know if I can downgrade in screen size.

I noticed this too.....what a difference from the inspire.....hard to believe the difference is only .3 inches
I just checked the Atrix at my friendly ATT shop, and I'm not sold to exchange my inspire for the Atrix. Colors seem better on the inspire, but the whites look whiter on the Atrix. Quadrant and nenamark1 were amazingly faster on the Atrix. I also checked the laptop dock and I was not impress by it. I check YouTube @ 1080p and it couldn't handle it. Even 720p was jittery. What do you guys think?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
I too was less then impressed with Atrix so I'll stick with Inspire at least for now. Hopefully Infuse will drop soon.
nevermind ....
CM7 will never make it to the atrix and development will be restricted to the same kernel released by moto. So hell no.
I went to the ATT store with the intent of trading my inspire for an Atrix. I played with it for a few minutes and decided it wouldn't be an upgrade for me. I mainly use my phone for texting, email and twitter. Dual core can't improve that experience very much. Maybe I'd see it a different way if I played lots of games on my phone but I don't.
They even let me play with the laptop dock, which further cemented my decision. It really can't compete with even the cheapest of netbooks out today. Too slow, especially on pages with flash.
I also just like the massive solid metal feel over the plastic of the Atrix.
If you guys are looking for speed, our CPU overclocked to 1.6 feels much faster than the atrix. I'm well satisfied with my purchase.

how is the battery on the overclocked ROM?
Hey guys,
I have a Captivate right now and am strongly considering switching over to the Inspire. I really wanted to get former Captivate user's opinions before I go ahead and jump ship; I really think that there are a couple of faults the Inspire has and I want to make sure that I'm making the right choice.
So, I kinda want to get this through before you guys ask
I don't use data, I use Wi-Fi at home.
I don't need GPS.
Texting and calling is important for me.
Graphics and speed is important for me.
Memory is important for me.
I'm going to be using it with a data opt-out on this phone, so I won't even have EDGE. I normally use my phone to listen to my music library, text, and call friends, with the occasional game/app every once in a while. I also enjoy reading occasionally, which is why I'm considering switching to the bigger-screened Inspire. I definitely will have to buy a 32GB microSD for it too, since my music library is a little bit under 8GB, and even then--it's still growing every other weekend.
What should I consider before switching?
Thanks, and sorry for the long post..
Speaking as a former cappy owner, the inspire out of the box is already better than any custom rom captivate. Adding cm7 makes it so bloody quick that it will blow you away. And with the recent audio fix posted in the Dev forum, calls are crystal clear.

Hey guys,
I have a Captivate right now and am strongly considering switching over to the Inspire.

Get rid of the cappy, sold mine on craigslist and haven't looked back. It's nice to have a phone where everything works with no modding!!

Captivate was nice but this phone is way faster and better and doesn't need all the mods to get it to work like it should. Def go for it

I agree. Do it. Even stock, this phone is better then captivated. The best part is that everything works. If you use the stock rooted roms, the call quality is great, the gps works and the keyboard a lot better the captivated. The only problem is that the root kinda sucks compared to captivated but not too bad. I haven't tested the music app yet.
you couldnt pay me to go back to captivate way faster. everyone keeps boasting about how good the cappy hardware is but it doesnt compare in speed to inrpsire out of the box mine is stock and was doing 2200 to 2400 on quad scores, Definately loving my inspire. Not to mention how sweet the htc software looks out of the box .
I agree...I came from the captivate world and its amazing how different the Froyo 2.2 is from one device to another. And then there is the GPS.....I didnt know what a GPS was with the captivate.
But I did love my captivate.
The difference is night and day.

Just sold my cappy on Craiglist today and got the Inspire, all I can say is wow! Amazing phone I love it, the freaking gps actually works! Get this phone man you won't regret it!
On a side note(sorry not trying to steal your thread), even though this phone is "4G" I don't need an extra data plan besides my $25/month 2gb plan?
as a former Cappy owner let me add my 2 cents is well lol. Get the Inspire and don't look back. Right out of the box, stock, it has more to offer than a custom Rom on cappy.

I have the Captivate, the Inspire and the Atrix. I like the Inspire better than the other 2 , in fact, about to see my craptivate on Craigslist, not even keeping it as a backup.
You will love the Inspire, fast, just works, great integration of Sense UI, beautiful and build quality is beyond.
Do it...............
Just sold my Captivate on EBay. Don't regret it at all. The inspire is a great phone.

This x100. CM7 is more stable and faster than anything you would ever flash on the Captivate. And that's before OC'ing.

This is a pretty amazing statement seeing how the atrix is supported to be so much better than the inspire based on the specs. I have been trying to explain to a lot of people on xda that it is not all about the specs and when u compare the atrix to the inspire the inspire is just a better phone. The development is already better than the captivate and with the atrix and its locked bootloader u are forced to wait on MOTO. Not to mention the inspires screen blows the atrix out the water! Inspire FTW!!

same data plan but they change it to what is called hspa + 4g still data pro 2gig 25.00 and I love the inspire battery life is equal if not better then captivate. I use captivate moderately at work and it needs to be charged on way home, my inspire used heavy all day today and was at like 45% battery power omw home. People can state all they want that captivate has better hardware but fact is inspire is faster I was getting 2200 and higher quad and that is on stock no tweaks at all.
I work at an at&t retailer and I got my Inspire when it came out. I was hesitant because I loved my captivate but everything on the inspire is better. the only thing i miss is swype and free wifi teathering ( im waiting for one click root on the inspire bc im a noob). The Inspire is well worth the money but if your willing to wait the samsung infuse is coming out soon and will be even better in my opinion. I have had a few customers come in hating the captivate, due to battery, service quality, and other issues and i got them in to inspires and all of them only have good things to say about it.
its very easy to put swype on it.
I have had the captivate since launch day and got the inspire a week or so ago. This evening I dropped the inspire in some water getting out of my car Screen comes on but touch not working all the time. Its sitting in a cup or rice and I'm using the captivate again. Its over-clocked to 1.4 and running serendipity while my inspire was 1.7 and cm7.
Right away I notice the captivate feels slower to open apps and populate information in apps on first open, the inspire is almost instant. Once apps are loaded into memory they feel similar but the captivate with widgets and multiple apps open does bog down compared to the inspire.
When I first switched to the inspire I missed the captivate screen, now I miss the inspire screen so who knows what that says.
All in all I hope the inspire recovers and the captivate will be on craigslist. Its been a great phone and fun introduction to android but the inspire is just better in almost every way and the additional memory seals the deal for me.
O but the gpu on the captivate is better, gets better frame rate in almost everything Ive seen 3D wise but not by much. Inspire does get about 30-40% more battery life over captivate for me.
This question is mainly for the former Captivate owners...
I am considering going from the Captivate to the Inspire. I am well aware of the hardware and software differences, so I need not to be schooled there. However, I would like to hear opinions as far as personal experiences go when going from the captivate to the inspire. Also, from a development point of view, the captivate is great because of the high competition and many choices of different custom roms...how promising is the inspire as far as develoment goes? Thanks.
seen your post in the captivate or iphone4 thread earlier, just go get the inspire dude, hands down without doing anything to it is way faster and wya more enjoyable, havent felt like that about a phone since droid x, had captivate 6 months sold on craigslist and got the inspire and not one regret at all. way more polished then cappy for sure. and im pretty sure devolpment is alot bigger then cappys, because inspire is basically desire hd.
I agree. I bought the Captivate back in August. I kept it stock for months and I was disappointed by the was Samsung treated us. Eventually I put Andromeda 1.2 and that made the phone much more enjoyable.
I am much more happy with my Inspire than I ever was with my Captivate. That includes the hard work and great job Team Komin did to make the phone good.

The captivate was nice but nothing like the Inspire.
I got sick of loading new Roms each week just to have it perform.
About the only Rom that worked for me was the cognition, everything else f k ed something up.
You will not be disappointed, this works right out of the box.
I hope I enjoy my inspire as much as you guys do. I should be getting it mon, or tue. Can't wait to give it a try.

Agreed. Went from Iphone 3gs to HTC Aria, to Iphone 4, to captivate (it's sad when a low/mid phone pulls someone away from iOS to Android) to streak to inspire (all since this time last year. yeah i'm a phone whore). Inspire is by far my fav
Inspire runs circles around Captivate, even in stock form.
Sent from a telegraph station somewhere in northern Russia.
I went from a Samsung Captivate to a Motorola Atrix (for a few days) to the Inspire. Samsung Captivate frustrated me to no end, and the Motorola Atrix build quality was just terrible. The Inspire is a great phone with superb build quality, and it's quite snappy to boot. I say go for it!
No offense to the OP, but I think it is time to start discouraging the over abundance of these " what kind of phone should I get " or " what is your opinion of the Inspire, compared to ..........." Again, no offense to anyone, but there are already a ton of these threads. Let's just search or bump one of those and make a Hugh effort to keep this forum uncluttered
Captivate to Inspire is like going from a Mitsubishi Eclipse to a Porsche. HTC is the most developer friendly phone manufacturer on the Android Platform. This phone has been out less than a month and we already have lots of ROM options out there including CM7.
On paper the Captivate is a great phone and it has some specs that are a little better than the Inspire, but the proof isn't on paper it's in actual phone use.
The Inspire is a solid phone with great hardware and a a thriving developer community. Make the move you won't be sorry.

None taken, however I created this thread for a very specific purpose. I am aware of other posts about "what phone should I get." I did look for a thread specifically for this topic and didn't find one. I wanted to see what other captivate owners had to say about going from the captivate to the inspire because an opinion from somebody coming from an iPhone or something else is not going to help.
Anyways, I finally decided to head down to the ATT store and picked one up. Needless to say I am very impressed with the inspire. The salesmen tried to get me to buy the atrix. He said the inspire was not only selling like hotcakes, but it outselling the atrix and said that the atrix isn't selling as good as they thought it would. I told him the deal breaker for me for the atrix was that it has a smaller screen, motoblur UI which I don't like and its not development friendly.

I can tell you this, you will not regret your decision. I can't believe the night and day difference over the Captivate. It is a whole new world.
I loved my Captivate. I love my inspire even more. It's definitely a step up. I'm not one to load roms and such, but I've seen a plethora of custom roms available for it, as well as, heard others speaking of roms.

I just got mine three days ago. I cant go back to the cappy now. Harder to root but once done easier to flash roms, and battery life sucks but blows the cappy away lol

I went from a Captivate to an Inspire and have liked it so far minus one major flaw, ROM space. On the Captivate I had loaded TONS of applications, so much so my wife constantly complained that I had too much junk on my phone. But I was testing, playing with new programs and seeing what worked for me. The Inspire has so much less space that when I initially set it up and the market tried to reload all my applications I ran out of space. I had to purge a ton of applications from my list. But since I never used many of these applications it wasn't a major issue.
That being said, I would make this trade every time, this phone is so much nicer and everything just works, including the GPS. I am very happy with the new phone and within a week of getting it I have rooted it, put on a couple tests ROMs, played with them then went back to a rooted stock ROM. So it seems development here is very lively, at least for what I do with my phone which is replace a ROM once in a blue moon. Now I have a captivate to play with as my toy phone and this phone as my work phone. Two phones for only $80 isn't bad (the original Captivate I got in August was essentially free after they rebated me $200 over the months for all the trouble then I upgraded a family line with the Inspire for $80).

The great thing is that with Froyo from the factory, you can use app2sd with no trouble and have quite a bit more apps than you otherwise could with ROM space.

Hello XDA,
I currently have the HTC Aria (Rooted) and I was wondering if I should get the HTC Inspire 4G. I have been considering it for a while and my upgrade date is in a few months and I was wondering, is this a great phone?
In my opinion yes the Inspire is a great phone but if you still have to wait a few months; HTC has some new stuff coming down the pipe Dual core, 4.5" screens, Ect... Although by the time you upgrade the Inspire will more than likely be free while your other options will not. As for what AT&T has out there right now I would still pick the Inspire. Even if they would have not screwed up my change from Alltel and gave them to me for free to keep me happy.

I had the Aria and now have the Inspire. The difference in size and weight took some gettting used to, but the Inspire is a great phone with a much better selection of ROMs. I have no regrets whatsoever.
I agree with tmcfarland. I came from an aria and I love it. Plus there have been no problems getting used to it other then the size difference. Just be sure if you root to read everything through it is a little more involved than the aria but still very doable.

This is the best phone eva! Now seriously it is a pretty beastly phone, speeds are great, screen quality is great, data speeds are the best your going to get until LTE and the build quality is amazing along with DEV support. Thats all you need to know
my favorite phone so far! although my second best is the blackjack 2 so this is really in a different world.
camera is amazing too...
like its been said waiting will offer a newer htc phone but its prolly gonna cost you where as this inspire might be a free phone when your due
Thanks guys, I went to an At&t store in my area to check the phone out, it seems pretty cool. And does anyone suggest a specific ROM, I have been looking at some extremely great ones.
I have enjoyed Gingerbeast for a whole week already, world record fot me...but i would also recommend honeysense, 2.1 sense mixed with 3.0

I'm going against the grain here and not recommend this phone. I'm on my third phone. Im not hard on them at all. The speakerphone and freezing problems is why I returned the first one. The second one the screen totally went out. Both were stock. My current version is rooted and custom and so far no problems. It does drop calls but that may just be the service although never had q problem with my previous device. The battery is puny and you will need a charger with you at all times. I give the phone a 6 out of 10.

Hey, I'm almost always around a charger and my battery on my Aria isn't so great either, so do you see me complaining?
When will you have the phone? For now I would recommend trying something like miui, very much like iPhone and completely different from the other inspire roms.
Definitely try gingerbeast, super fast.

Wait. I have the aria and 2 inspires and would tell you to wait. The phone has issues, but I will say I still love it. Looks like the sensation is coming to ATT and lord willing maybe the sgs2 . If you think battery life on the aria is bad your really in for a bad surprise with the inspire. They have the same size battery.
Performance wise the inspire is rock solid, on par with the dual core beasts. I can run the tegra and gameloft games without a hitch. But the cell signal, WiFi, and definetly Bluetooth performance is sub par. It is a phone afterall. The speaker is bad, unusable for videos without the volume apk. I honestly think the metal body is what hinders the radio. Most have issues with the screen, my two included. Hell a case can kill Bluetooth as can your Hand covering the side.
Not trying to poop all over our beloved gadget, just telling it like it is. Go into any if the forum here and ask the opinion of that phone. I promise you it will be 90% positive, except the atrix. Lol

I still use my Aria and I have the Inspire...The Aria is good in the car because I can control everything with one hand and my thumb...cant with the Inspire.
