I like Where'sMy Droid because its useful for if you lose your phone in your house& its on silent (the app will allow the phone to ring) or if lost elsewhere, you can get the GPS coordinates.

Lookout does that, too Plus, it will do remote backups.
I don't use the virus scanning, but it offers that as well.

i remember reading about an app thatwould turn your phone on ring if it was on silent and have it ring until you go and turn it off...i forget the name of that app

Hey
So got myself a nexus S in Canada, hands down the best Android experience
So anyeone know if a mod exists for name display to work.?
Rogers has it working with there android phones but it doesn't seem to work on nexus s. I know not too many providers have this feature, but name display helps alot when screening calls.
Anyone know how to get it to work on nexus s?
Thanks

It probably won't be a simple file mod, but rather a customized firmware. It would be nice to see v2.3.4 with name display in it, as I like having it working, but it's not essential to me. I want a solid phone first, so I'd give up name display for that.
Caller id? i am on rogers with a nexus s and can see who is calling me to screen calls. Check your call settings perhaps you disabled it. Or maybe rogers is denying you the service (do you have it on your plan?).

No he's talking about "name display" service which shows the name and number of inbound calls even if they're not in your contacts.

I can indeed see numbers of people who are not in my contact list. Names are a different matter, but i could not see them on my G1 either.
Name display (which is a service that shows you the NAME of a person calling, as well as the number, of numbers not in your contact list requires custom, i.e., Rogers, firmware. However, back in the WM6 days, all we had to do is switch up one file in a stock ROM with one from a Rogers ROM, and it worked fine.

It probably would. I had used a file from an HTC touch diamond in an HTC touch pro and it worked fine. For wm6, the file was rilphone.dll. not sure which file it is for android, but I would assume that "ril" would be in the name somewhere.

I would suggest looking at all the files with "ril" in the name in both a rogers branded captivate rom and an unbranded captivate rom, and see if there is any difference. The one that is different is prob the one you need.

Are you paying for Caller ID? I had this problem with my Nexus One on Rogers. I couldn't get name display to work no matter what I tried. Once I started paying for Roger's caller i.d. then the name display on the phone worked.
I couldn't figure it out. Hopefully you have better luck.

Don't think you are talking about name display. There is a difference between name display and caller id. Name display is a service provided by Rogers that displays the name of numbers that are NOT in your contact list. It costs an additional $2/month over and above the charge for caller id. So far (at least to my knowledge), no one has been able to get it to work on an HTC Android device...
Name Display works with NexusSense Rom

My wife started getting these weird text messages from an over seas number. No idea what it is but she replied one time to get rid of it. We ended up getting charged more than than normal and was told the only way to stop was to change phone nimbers. She now started to get them now. Whats weird is now out of the blue I stared to get them on my phone. Any ideas?
That's annoying. I get blank texts messages from this one number, and it started about 1.5-2 years ago. It happens randomly, and I even called the number back at one point explaining to the middle-aged lady that she was sending me blank texts. She was surprised and said she had no idea that it was happening. I have screenshots to prove it, *****.
Luckily, I don't get charged for her blank texts.
Maybe an app u have is pushing them try downliading air push finder and see what comes up

Last time we were there they were not very help full and said I had to change my number which I did. Now my wife is getting these and she cant change her number as she uses it for work. Guess I will call verizon again and complain or talk to a person with more knowledge. Hmm since Im not stock will they ask for information from the phone? Dont want to change back and re load if I dont have too.
Just called and they said they cant block and dont see anything but as long as we dont reply we wont get charged. Its just annoying. Weird though how she showed them to me yesterday and overnight I started getting them.
I am now finding some information on a verizon website and will try and see if it works.
Well neither of those options worked. Guess Im just stuck getting them and deleting them.
Why not just download a root text/call blocker? i have the same problem and this works just fine. I'd get some stupid message from a weird number saying "Want quick cash now! Reply "CASH" for quick cash now! If you would like to stop these text messages, respond "STOP"!"
Just dont type anything to these numbers and get an SMS blocker

Did you mention the Ozmail thing to Verizon? You're probably getting a message notification if I'm not mistaken. Verizon should be able to turn this off, just make sure you mention the Ozmail thing.
More info here: https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/668513/
Ozmail is the stock email app. Text 'stop' and it will stop. Every time an email comes in it is trying to go through the now nonexistent email app since you have an aosp email ask with your Rom flash.

You can block numbers on Verizon's website but the block only lasts for 3 months which is pretty useless for this kind of thing.
I use Mr. Number from the market. So far so good. Blocks calls and texts. On the calls I have it set to pick up and hang up so they never get to my Voicemail. I think you can set a custom reply for texts as well.
The blocked numbers and texts never show up on my call log or text folder

Those work but in my case the number was too long and not really a
phone number. When I replied to the text it stopped.
I have the similar situation, but I am getting a wired phone call is from unknown caller ID. When I pick up ,there is always someone mumbling,, when you stop saying he stops. But the carrier can do nothing with it, unless i have to change the number.

Every time a device gets AOSP (for the first time) I see a flood of posts whining about MMS being broken. (I've had an Evo 4G and an Evo 3D and saw this on both when they first got AOSP, now I see it in the unofficial CM9 thread here.)
Why MMS? What's good about MMS that you can't get with any other app or service?
Did I miss the train?

Yea.. I gather that as well.
How else would one sext and send nudes?
1) It's universal.
No matter what phone the other person is using, chances are it supports MMS.
2) It's in-line.
Unlike email, you can just go "Here's a picture" instead of "I just sent you an email, you should go check it out"

I know its a serious question but made me laugh a bit. "Why God why!!" Lol
My girlfriend and I send MMS's (plural?lol) all the time. Sometimes she wants to send me something she saw or maybe a new outfit she bought With email I don't always have autosync on for battery life and its just that extra hassle. If I'm trying to send something pretty high resolution I will use email though since it doesn't compress it.
its the easiest and fastest way to send a pic to a person on another mobile phone, any other mobile phone, any OS, any platform, any carrier.

I guess I just don't get why you couldn't just email pictures or videos. All you have to do is tap after you've taken your picture and the UI asks how you want to share it. I don't know a single human being who still uses MMS outside of these forums and maybe my mother, who keeps buying feature-phones. :^\
It's easier to send a quick picture to a phone than through email. I don't know much of my friend's email addresses off the top of my head

Has anyone been able to get the smart dialer from the Nexus 5 working on the Moto X? I have a Nexus 5 and and the smart search feature in the dialer was actually really nice to use. For those who don't realize what I am talking about- this is the feature in the dialer where you can search "AutoZone" within the dialer and it will pull up the 3 listings closest to you. Also when you call local businesses it displays their name and picture instead of just the phone number.
I'm trying to decide between the Moto X or the N5 and it is such a hard decision every little thing is factoring in. Thanks!
Edit:
Some people later in the thread have had success with this dialer apk in the download link below:

Let me tell you from my own experience. I bought a nexus 5 moments after launch. Upon receiving it, I liked it but its really barley different from the nexus 4 (which I was coming from) other than kit Kat. Fast forward 3 weeks, I sold my nexus and bought a moto x. I'm much happier with this device. Its way more innovative than the nexus 5. Touchless control and active display are amazing. As far as hardware I notice no difference. The display is just as good but in a different way. And the camera may not be better but takes good pictures. Overall I'm 100% happy with my decision and will never look back.

Thanks for weighing in there. I actually think the Nexus 5 is an amazing phone. Each phone has pros and cons. The Smart Dialer being a pro of the Nexus 5 since I was actually using the feature. So back to my original question, anyone? anyone?
I'm guessing it is more than just installing the N5 dialer apk otherwise it would be readily available for install.

Feels more like you are searching for someone in your contact list vs. googling the number. Time wise it is probably the same if you are quick with google now. It is nice having the functionality in the dialer app vs switching over to google now if I am already in the dialer. The caller id feature is what I really like about it though. Say yesterday I called Autozone and then I need to call them again today, I can completely skip over opening google now and repeating the search process, just go straight to my history, see the name and location of the Autozone (especially helpful I I had called multiple locations) I called and click to call, no searching, no trying to remember what time of day I called them yesterday, what number it was, etc.

With the new dialer it would be labeled in the history as AutoZone + location info, with the stock dialer all you see is the number, so if you have called many numbers that are not in your contacts then good luck remember which number was AutoZone in your history.
Anyhow I switched back to my Nexus 5 anyway as I decided I liked it better than the Moto X, so for me this thread is now a moot point.
