Hi guys, I'm new to xda-developers. Can anybody help me which android apps are mostly widely used now a days...
Thanks in advance...
Your question is a little broad. Games? Productivity? Flashing?
I think most people on this forum would agree that Titanium Backup is near the top of any list.
Seems like everyone but me is playing Angry Birds.
Most people get a lot of use out of the Music apps. And if you have functioning GPS (you should be able to get there from studying the posts on the forum) you'll get a lot of use out of Google Maps and Navigation.

Thanks for the reply, Soccer_Dad.
Well, I'm asking about the Android Games. I've bought a new android mobile and I don't know what games to be played. I like adventurous kind of games.
Can u suggest me some websites...?

Thanks a ton PhilDsT and Jamay for the your support.
Can I know which is best among Android, Iphone, Blackberry, Symbian and others. I've searched a lot for this, but I can't get right answer.
Of course this is not a poll, I'm just waiting for someone telling me the effective answer.
Thanks in advance.
I will try with my simple english (and a little help from google =)
(for thanks, there is a button at the bottom right of each post)
This is not a poll, this is a troll
There is no best mobile operating system, and no right answer...
That depend on your needs, android is open (a little free), iOS is closed (but can be open), Symbian doesn't have the success it deserve and i don't know blackberry.
My favorite is AOSP ; android open source project (with custom rom), because I find all apps I need and all mods I need...
@ Jamay......Sorry for my bad English......

I wasn't sure where anything like this would go, so I made sure to put it in a forum as general as possible.
I'm a beginning web designer, but seeing as I spend most of my free time on this site, I'm growing more of an interest in learning to code for the mobile platform. If anybody is willing to help, all I'm asking for is a few tips from developers here on where to begin.
I learned some very basic java in college, but was wondering if there is a better path to go on. Do I start with BASIC? Do I continue and go towards more advanced Java and stick with only one programming language?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
-Considering I've done almost everything that I can with my rooted EVO, all of you were the people I'd rather hear from. I appreciate all of the hard work that you all have done!
You can develop full market apps using the language I use called basic4android.
Its easy to use but very powerful, produces a native android apk (so no interpreters) and has regular updates.
There are free user contributed libraries that make it even better and it has been used to produce everything from live wallpapers and anti theft apps to games and gps software so is a good option to consider.
I wrote my first app after messing about with it for about an hour and was amazed how easy it makes things. Google basic4android and you will find its homepage for more info. I can't remember the address as it's saved as a bookmark on my pc not phone.
EDIT: did a google search and its at http://www.basic4ppc.com/

I would like to hear what everyone thinks is the best of the best.
Anything related to Skyrocket/SGS II LTE, and Android.
Roms, Kernels, Modems, Apps, Games, Themes, etc.
I've tried doing this before, but people aren't too contributory unfortunately. I can direct you to r/android which will help you get a lot more general Android information, as well as just a good community with cool insights. Check out top rated posts over X time frame, and use the search to find recommendations for almost everything.
But in case this starts off; go to myColorScreen to find cool theme ideas. And apps I recommend downloading are Pokemon Tower Defense (awesome game) and Faceniff / Network Spoofer (facebook session hijacking / general prank device for people on your wifi [ replace all images with a trollface, redirect them to kittenwar.com ] )

I check here for ROMs and a few other random threads, but for general android info/news/tips I go to Reddit. I dunno if you've used Reddit before (it's a bit complicated), but once you get used to it it'll pretty much replace any website you used to go to for science, pics, android, music, jokes, memes, etc etc.
Just Pictures is a great Gallery alternative... XDA Edition of Better Battery Stats = must have!
Goo Manager is also a nice alternative to Rom Manager...

Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum and this is my first post
I have a Huawei Ascend Y320 (Android 4.2 Jellybean, dual-core processor etc), and I have heard that it is possible to run iOS on an Android device.
I have seen a similar thread discussing this topic... but the 'how-to' link in the thread does not load the desired page
I have also found this through a Google search 'iosonandroid' However the page forces one to make purchases for products and services that I don't want and don't furthermore trust.
So, that brings me back to my question, can one run iOS on Android...?
Please don't knock me for this, as though I quite like Android OS, I need to access iOS apps, such as 'iMovie', and other similar video editing/movie making software.
Android has many apps for such purposes, however, most are merely clones of Androids' stock Movie Maker, which has limited abilities, and can be quite buggy. I have managed to find a couple of great video editing/movie making apps on Google Play, but I would still be keen to be able install iOS apps to broaden my capabilities.
Any constructive help would be much appreciated
Cheers,
Harry
I'm going to answer your question quickly before someone thinks it'll be funny to troll you.
Sadly I will have to say, you cannot run iOS on Android, some developers have found a way to run iOS apps on Android but they haven't released much info on that.
The sites that say, you can run it. They're all bullcrap and just want you to register and fill out surveys. If there was iOS for Android, I'm sure it'd be on YouTube, and here on xda.
So again, you can't run iOS on Android.

Thanks for that Glad I got a 'straight to the point' answer from you, I really appreciate that.
I have seen evidence of heavy trolling on other threads... which makes it extremely difficult for people like myself trying to work out a solution to a query or problem.
And yes, I did wonder about the survey/register blah blah spam on the 'iOS on Android' website. I am glad I did not go through with the process, as it seems especially dodgy considering there is no way of contacting the dev....
Exactly, and the thing is, there is no specification for the device. It just has pictures of samsung and htc phones with the iOS screenshot and then the requirements on the page is based on Android OS versions... And it supports eclair. Lol.
Maybe sometime in future some smart developer will figure out how to run iOS on Android.

You Cannot frun IOS on any android device!! the most you can do is use a launcher or try few apps that (i guess) emulate ios apps
The good apps I have seen in the Play Store are:
1. Temple Runner: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.imangi.templerun&hl=en
2. Auto Off Manager:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appzdevelopers.autoffmanagerf
3, Avast Anti_Virus: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.avast.android.mobilesecurity&hl=en
One does not simply call avast the best as it's the most common and therefore, the most countered anti-malware in order to target successfully the highest amount of users.
I don't believe antiviruses on phone. No impact I think. Only improve ram usage

That's true. Almost in all android cells, I have seen the Avast is installed. I do not have any doubt. It would be in number one for some years may be. Talking to the Gaming world, Temple Runner is also ahead, but we do not know how much time it would be... Because candy crush made crazy to people and other competitors come in market. Regarding the Auto Off Manager, there is no one to compete it as it is unique one and some apps are there in market but I do not think that that are comparable with this one.

Hi xanthrax,
I do not know, in which way I hurt you. But truly speaking what I felt right, has written. Till now I do not know what to do for the community. But assure you that, I would not break the law of community. Word "The" always placed before best. If you can suggest me what to write before best, then I would be open always.
Few apps what I felt are better for android users also will suggest in this thread. Please do not make any thread as controversial one.
If you feel any apps are much more better than what I suggested, you are welcome, so that I may use the best one.
If I have hurt you by any means then I am apologizing for my words.
Thank you
I'll contribute a bit to this usefull thread .
Apps that are really usefull or impressive are:
- Titanium Backup Pro
- 2lines for whatsapp
- Tapatalk, of course for XDA
- Chrome ( far away the best browser for high end phones )
- Smooth Browser ( the best browser for low end - high end phones I made it myself, link is in my signature )
- Greenify
- Xposed Framework
- Nova Prime
- Zooper Widgets Pro
This are my favorites/best apps for today.

ok , i will expand my point a little bit more.
there is no broken written xda rule on this thread or similar to it so far .
when open a new thread , you have noticed that you`ve been suggested to check first whether another similar thread has been already opened or not
my quick search revealed

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929193

and maybe some more ...
another point is that not all devices are supporting certain applications , there are hundreds of phones and few dozens of android versions reason why , the most indicated place to open a thread about your favourite/best apps is in your device thread unless someone already done it .
example
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1425813
the xda recommendation is to not to open BEST threads but mostly regarding ROMs and KERNELS because it can trigger a flame war around it
which is best for you may be not the same for me ... conflicts
regarding apps and themes it is different but while on themes section there are good and sedulous maintainers who knows what they do , here on apps sections these kind of threads creates more confusion bloating the search index with more and more results
now , it is up to you how you can deal with but i have the feeling that these threads will end up becoming nothing but another outdated list of apps , list which can be also easily found on Google using search
the last member who posted the list already did it on another thread , well , everyone has this right though ...
i`m sure you`ve got my point even though it isn`t easy to accept it
there are lot of other ways to help people and to contribute to community if this is your intention and only a quick search on my profile it will help you to understand how easy it is
-=-=-
i should have done this using a p.m. but observing other`s involvement i have chosen this way
however , further opinions around my point it will go private

I do not have any doubt in your contribution towards This forum and this community.
I do not know when my profile in this forum would be like your profile.
You really has created a field in this forum. Your each post and reply costs 1000$s. Still my intention is not to create confusion among the forum members. Now let this thread run like this. In future I definitely give more value added posts and Threads.
My intention was to create this thread where all good apps would be listed and any one can easily follow and can see the features.
My intention is not to promote any single individual. My intention is to make this thread Great and will made the most valuable thread.
Intention is not to be famous, but can help others to get the better one through this thread.
I would definitely carry forward my research and will give the best contribution to this forum and this community.
I consider myself a rational intelligent man but I find this site insanely complex, non-intuitive,an extremely frustrating! After sleepless hours and hours and hours and hours of trying to familiarise myself with this place, this 64 year old man is sitting here in tears trying to find his last post among other simple tasks attempted. Does there not exist here, a simple starting tutorial to introduce one to the basic workings of this place? Please help.
My problems partially solved.
My problems partially solved ...
I FINALLY found a downloadable and functional apk for this forum's app (Google Play store will not play with my device at present ... That is one of the reasons that I am here) ... and that is helping me a LOT!
Perhaps it would be a good idea for you to make it a point to strongly recommend the XDA forums app to newly arriving members here.
I TRULY think that the website UI here could use some development to make it much more new-user-friendly, however.
... Another point ...
Maybe I am missing some kind of search filtering option, but, I do not see any value in hundreds of thousands of non-applicable and irrelevant search results when trying to find something here. Perhaps someone could direct me to such filtering options if they do, indeed, exist.
In closing, I must say that the reception I received when joining here was very pleasant and I am already on my way via some help
and advice from a couple of members here to solve my crashed Play Store problem.
