[Q] Put "any" widget in the notification bar??? - Droid X Themes and Apps

I tried searching in different forums and Google but I was unable to find this.
My question is ..is it possible to put "any" widget into the notificatily bar I'm really looking to put the "Elixir" widget into the notification bar

No! However, there was an app in the market that allowed you to have a hidden screen. I cant recall what the app was named but basicly you could say hold down the home button and the screen similar to just a blank screen would pop up. You could put widgets and other things on the screen. Seriously though the app seemed kind of usless considering you already have how many other screens lol.

+1 on Widgetsoid2.x I use it and I'm just betting it will do what you are trying to do. Hey it's free so at least you can try it and find out.

App Idea: Hide certain apps that are in your app drawer...

Here's something for you devs. How bout an app that can hide apps that are in the app drawer. (the tool bar at the bottom). Because right now if someone was to want to hold my phone they could get right into my email, pics, astro, bank account, market, anything! You know what I mean? if we had an app that puts those icons inside of it then that would be a good start. You could call it Drawer Mod or something like that.
Sure they could get to them from the application set up option, but thats not so easy to figure out. First someone could work on that, then they can work on a password lock feature for it or something. I'd pass my phone around more freely if I had a little more privacy than just the pattern lock. (that can be bypassed if you know how anyway). Is it a good idea?
No. Either don't hand your phone out or use pattern lock. If I could use your phone I would dial long distance out of spite.
I been looking for something like this but for a different reason Its cramped lol, I just want to be able to organize the apps in folders or something my games clutter everything. May add password protect to certain folders

Wow you're just awesome!!! Yeah you can sooo borrow my phone and call all the long distance you want. If you gotta call then call. lol I didn't think generosity could be misguided into hate like that. Go back to your cave hermit! What's your problem?
Now back on topic with civilized people.

Folders would be good.. it gets a bit cluttered in there.
Hmm actually displaying folders might be difficult but as for hiding apps I think the easiest way would be to effectively move them to a hidden folder on the phone... using shell commands someone could accomplish this... consider these shell commands
Hide an app
Code:
mv /data/app/APPNAME.apk /hidden/
Run an app
Code:
mv /hidden/APPNAME.apk /data/app/
*figure out some command to run the apk*
*figure out how to wait for app to die*
mv /data/app/APPNAME.apk /hidden/
Make the icon of the app be a folder and the interface copied directly from the app drawer and it might actually act like a folder
Nice! So it's feasable. Now all we need is for someone to apply the info above into an easy to use app, or I learn how to be a pro with terminal commands. lol
yeah i really need that app. in my rokr e6 there was a menu where you could pick different user setups Games:Office:and Custom you could put watever you wanted inthem

Second video, at about :45 seconds in. They show a tabbed app drawer. Wish they would release it as a market app.

That is a nice find! Now there's a visual. Would really make the phone less cluttered and more like a desktop. I wonder if its coming to the phone version of android. Anyone up for making a set up based on that?
Based on the appearance of alternate home apps, some with multiple app drawers, Id say someone will do this eventually.
yea i dont know if its just me.. but i wish that there was more editing and revamping of the normal apps.... like browser/messaging/dialpad/contacts the default. I would like to download replacements for them... not steel/acontacts/chompsms (not saying they arent good cause I use the last two) But with Ahome replacing my home screen.. its not replacing it.. its on top of it. I think everything would work alot better if we just focus on editing the normal features instead of having like 20 differnt versions of contacts browsers and all that.
I hope im understood I sometimes have an issue typing my complicating thoughts.
Me too! This is an app or mod that i have been waiting for. I've been using Advanced launcher with my dounut roms. But now with eclair, it wont run. Im not so much worried about adding folder to the app drawer, but more into hiding useless icons to clean things up a little bit. Do i really need 6 different icon pack icons? when they come up as needed anyways. whats the point in icons for apps that are primarily widgets? PLEASE! SOMEBODY! create an app or a mod that allows me to do this. I would pay for it!!!!

in case i loose my phone i bought App Protector:
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-carrotapp-protectpronew-Attn.aspx
You can define apps which are password or lock pattern protected. This app has to be excluded from a task killer of course. I also protected market, root explorer and terminal.
There is another free app (ad supported) which does the same but only with a password. no lock patter (the lock pattern was the reason i bought app protector).

I'm pretty sure about 6-8 months ago there was an alternative launcher on these forums that had app hiding as a feature. I think it was discontinued quite a while ago, but yeah not only is it possible, but someone's already done it.

Don't go ask AndersWeb, he's already on record about implementing it (in summary, "no", though offering a patch might convince him otherwise.)
And yeah, Advanced Launcher is much more than two months old. At least since August 2009 (when I showed up), probably earlier.
Vault
theres an app called "Vault" that hides the applications in your app drawer
you need root to use it though.
i use it to hide the sms app
then use handcent....so i can blacklist certain senders ......obviously i also have certain adult 3g apps hidden as well
advanced launcher is the only thing i can think of, too. works pretty well on donut roms, i just wish someone would port that functionality into a 2.1 rom.
the ADW/almostnexus launcher that most devs are throwing into their builds now has some of the same functions as advanced launcher (drag n drop uninstall, compressed columns/rows) but no app hiding, which is a real bummer.
this was done almost a year ago
Download panda home app has had an option to hide the apps in your app drawer for almost a year. also to make customer slide out drawers in your homescreen. if i remember, long tap on the home screen then go into the drawer option, it works remarkable well actually.

Launcher app

I've just moved over from the TytnII - and i am feeling button deprived. I'm looking for an app that will allow me to launch a few specific apps (Phone & Calendar & camera being most immediate) without all this scrollling around panes on the Nexus UI and hunting for the icon. I used AEButton+ under WinMo.
any suggestions ?
Personally, I place all my icons that I quick access in the center screen (#3). Then, my widgets and less used icons go out to the sides. I know how you feel though, as it actually caught me by surprise the first time I went to make a call and there was no call button.
Install Home++ or Launcher+ from the market.

Found a solution!..
ScreenSlide from the market. Beautiful launcher/app that restructures how you use the home completely. I really like it.. took me all of 5 mins to decide to register the paid for app

I want my screen to look like android, not winmo.
Until screenslide supports widgets, it's a downgrade from stock android.

No. I really don't have a problem with the current launcher.
Edit. So, I tried both Launcher++ and Home++. Launcher++ kinda sucked. Nothing special. Home++ on the other hand is effin' awesome! So flippin' smooth, I get to keep the "Android look" but also expand upon it a little bit. Still playing with it, as I haven't yet figured out how to customize it yet. Just wish it supported live wallpapers. I like the "light cycle" one. :-D

Can you remove the time from the notification bar?

Since I have a giant clock widget on my home screen I feel this is pretty redundant. A quick google search yielded this result:
http://www.market4android.com/remove-the-clock-from-task-bar.php
But, that's for the Hero. Any ideas on if we can do something similar with the EVO?
hahaha, same here. it's retarded when i click on the show your home screen thread and see the huge sense like time along with the smaller taskbar time. or people have the battery widget showing the same thing as the taskbar battery. having the widget repeating the same information as the taskbar is redundant. it would be nice to disable it in the taskbar so i can put up some widgets.
Im really wanting to get rid of my stock battery icon as well. I had it on the hero, since Im using a battery widget that shows the percentage up there anyway.
I have the time removed on my moment but i doubt the same update zip will work on the evo.
itd be great if we could...

I did something like this on my old moto droid, that made the time disappear. Only prob left an open spot where the tine used to be, but at least it was gone. I will check on droid forums.net to see if I can find it.

Obviously some way to shift the icons over or put something else there would be ideal, but even just removing the time and having a blank space would be fine with me. I just think it's dumb to have the time shown twice right next to each other. Thansk for checking.
I agree. The only time it's handy is when you're in an app and you want to check the time real quick by hitting menu and dropping down the notification bar. I wonder if I'd miss that once it's gone.
When I get home I'll try to achieve it if no one else has, wish I knew how to remove that empty space tho >.
You can get rid of the notification bar altogether with ADW Launcher. Don't know if that will help you guys.

I still want the notification bar..I just don't want the time in it and I'm appealing to the experts here because I don't know how to mod the notification bar.
A thousand internets to whoever does it.

[REQ] Notification Pull Down Power Buttons Ala Galaxy S

Hi I was watching a browser speed test video on androidcentral and they had a galaxy s phone and when they pulled down the notification bar at the top were a set of power buttons letting you turn on blue tooth, wifi or gps from any screen (really useful IMO)
So i ws wondering if this was part of touchwiz or an app or something we can port to the droid x. I find myself wantng to turn on wifi bt and gps alot in apps and ont want to go to the home screen to do it. i think this is so cool, anyone can elaborate?
thanks!
i believe it's part of touchwiz and it IS very handy. i don't use it all the time but it's a lot easier than finding the screen with the quick toggles.....if you're even using them.
Yea my friend has the one for T-mobile and i didnt' know it till i pulled down the notification bar, and I thought the same thing...sooo useful. I use my phone for navi a lot and it's annoying to go through screens to find the widget.
Quick Desk Beta
Check out the app Quick Desk Beta its essentially the same idea but instead of pulling your notification bar down you double press your home button and it pulls up a transparent screen that you can put any widgets on like wifi toggle or your music player. I used it all the time with my D1 when id be on a web page and forget to turn wifi on or want to listen to music while on the web but not want to go home and find the widgets then back to browser. I just got the DX and haven't tried it yet on it im still figuring out all these new moto blur things but i would think it should work with the DX. Hope that helps you out alittle

thanks i will check it out, but i do once in a while use the double tap of the home button for voice dial on my x, but that shouldnt b needed anymore once we get froyo and the new voice search app from google.
i still would like to have this in notification bar and wonder if it could be done as an app or as a theme mod or what. IF anyone has any ideas how this can be ported? maybe i can request a port in the DX android dev forum?
Yes a friend and my inlaws have the Galaxy and I would love to have something like this for the X.
Check out the app Quick Settings. Lets you put whatever settings in there you want. It's not as pretty, but really useful.

I would really love this too. I know the Galaxy S has it and certain ROMs have it but I'm not willing to root my DX quite yet.
i use quick settings as well, works really good.
Also you can download the app called Homesmack which can allow you to program the search hard button on the X to bring up the quick settings app. pretty convenient when i want to turn on wifi or bluetooth etc on the fly and saves space on home screens

It's awesome.
this is the only feature i miss from when i had my Captivate.....i can only hope the guys at team defuse can get this to work on the X!
I use MySettings. It works very well.

Homescreen Icons Disappearing?

Is anyone else experiencing their icons on any of their home screens disappearing when attempting to move them? After long pressing, and "picking up" the icon, trying to move it to a new position will cause it to either revert back to the old position (meaning, simply can't move them) or just flat out disappear entirely.
Problem persists until rebooting, in which I find all the icons I attempted to move in one of my folders in my home screen.
Just adding to the slew of Gingerbread glitches. Anyone else?
Edit: I filed a report to Google: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=13434 If you're also experiencing this, please visit the link and star, so more attention is brought to Google.
Really, no one else?
In general, sometimes icon apps refuse to be moved.
Yeah I'm getting something similar. Like when I try to add an icon on the bottom section closest to the trashcan, it automatically goes to the trash.
I even tried placing it on the corner but no dice.
After further experimenting, it seems that it only happens on the last screen on the right.
I tried the other screens, and was able to actually place the icons on the bottom section.

Oddly, it happens to me mostly on the screen farthest left. Ridiculous. The slew of glitches with Gingerbread continue.

Thanks.
I found out where all those icons went, they all showed up in a folder that I had on another screen which I named "sports" because it's where I keep the apps that I use for all my sports needs. When I opened it I saw like 10 google voice shortcuts because that's the app shortcut that I've been trying to add. Wired glitch.
