So I know the boot animation is located in system/customise/resource however is there any risk in deleting it? I am coming from an HD2 running android without a boot animation and was wondering is this was possible on our wonderful SNS
May I ask why you would not want the Boot Animation? Does it give you the command line boot up?
wow thanks for the fast reply, no problems just a personal preference

It is in /system/media on this device...
And you can delete it, it will just give you a grey android logo
Ah ok thanks for the update! did a search for similar threads and found they pointed to the other folder.
thanks for the quick replies guys!

Hi all, I just joined and have a question. I flashed the CBW update from my unbranded XT720 and now have CBW branding as the boot animation. I dl'd a boot animation prog and it disabled my touch screen, so a reflash was required. How would I remove the branding without losing my touch screen? I used BAC lite. Thank you in advance.
I haven't tried it but saw this. You can copy a bootanimation.zip to /system/media with Root Explorer or with Andoidiani Recovery you can set up a theme with nothing but a bootanimation.zip.
Thanks for that, but, it didn't seem to work for me. the download option goes to some website for hosting. then had to do a recovery to get it to start up again.
Download absolute system tools and find any boot animation you want

Thanks, someone else recommended this to me also. I will do it
works like a charm. the best $1.99 I have ever spent
I was wondering if it's safe to flash new ROM with a custom boot animation active?
I want to update my SynergyROM as it's gotten slow and clunky, though it's about 40 revision behind the times. I haven't messed with customizing my phone for months, however, and am a bit rusty. I downloaded the latest SynergyROM, made my backups, and was just wondering about this. In fact, I'm searching for my bootanimation.zip right now, not sure where I manually installed it... lol
Also, apparently there is a way to just flash boot images now? Anybody have a link to some solid info?
Thanks in advance!

bootanimation.zip is in /system/media, so it'll get formatted when you flash a new rom anyways.
I'm assuming you're referring to bootanimations or splash screens, not boot.img's ..... But then again confused by what you're asking. Bootanimations just need to be put in a zip and the updater-script push it to /system/media. Splash screens there's a thread explaining how-to.

So, I took a hiatus from the rooting scene for a bit. Actually, more like a year. Seems I've forgotten how to add custom boot animations to a ROM. I remember it involved replacing some stuff in a system/media folder or something, but can't remember exactly. I checked stickies and tried to search, found nothing.
Also, is there a thread dedicated to boot animations? The stock Verizon one kind of blows.
Basically I used what I think is an awesome boot animation on my galaxy nexus. I found it on xda. For reference, it's here & I'm using the first one (joker mouth);

I'm trying to get that working on my nexus 5, but whenever I place the zip where it should go I reboot and I just see the word 'android' flashing for the boot animation. I thought it would just work on this phone but I guess not. What do I need to do to get it working on this phone?
Sorry for being a noob?
In that thread it states you need to set permissions on the file first and then reboot.

Can anyone develop a boot logo (without the Unlock and signature verification warning) and boot animation without the use of TWRP? I'd love it if someone could point me to a how-to if they can't produce such a thing, please and thank you!
This would be awesome. Hopefully someone can figure it out. This was possible on the Nexus 5X but not the 6P, for some reason.
I fear with the latest SafetyNET update triggering with as little as an unlocked bootloader that this won't be possible for some time. However if there is a developer willing to tackle this, I'm willing to donate to the cause, as I'm sure others would be too. I know that many other people would love have black boot logo and the error gone as well.

How do we create a bounty? I have no clue. I'd throw in a dollar or two.
Well I tried changing the hex code in system\media\bootanimation.zip from white to black but that didn't do the trick. It basically just "removed" any animation whatsoever and booted up with a static white background and Google logo.
I would love someone to look into this more.
Anyone have any ideas on this?
Happened to me once. I rechecked the permissions 644 after I placed the files once again in solid explorer and there it was- not correct. Changed permissions, rechecked, permissions stood there, rebooted and it worked.
I wonder if the developer of the Weta ROM @Mentalmuso can assist. One of the main reasons I use this great ROM is to get the black boot logo (just the boot image, not the starting BL unlock warning). This way, I have a visual indicator of which slot I'm booting into. If it's black, it's slot A.
Here's one.

You know, thanks for this. Actually, this thread points to another link and I used it to create my own flashable zip.
