I was just wondering if I backed up my contacts to my sim card, they can't be harmed when I upgrade my captivate to 2.2 right?
sorry if this is a stupid question or if someone asked it already
do a google backup (you need a google account) it will sync your contacts. Or a 3rd party software, like mybackup pro..
Right. Export them to a file on sdcard. and keep a copy on desktop in case your sdcard fails.
how exactly do you back it up to google?
you go to the sync menu in the options and you setup your google account... then click sync contacts.
It works fine with me xD

Hi. First of all I'd apologize twice: once for me english the other for the probably noobish question. Now let's see if you can help me with my problem.
I have just got a samsung galaxy s (after some flashes, it now has android 2.2.1). I temporary imported my old phone contacts to gmail. Now I wanna import those contacs to the phone but not through syncing since, after having imported them, i want to delete them from google contacts and avoid the phone to sync the contacts again (for security reasons I dont feel comfortable leaving so much info on the email account). I'm not sure how to do that.
I'm also nor very sure how the stock calendar works. If I have a facebook/google accounts, does it sync with them?
In short, I want to know how to maintain my contacts/appointments only on my phone, but leting other fucntions (like syncing emails) keep working as normal.
Also I want to ask other thing. I used to use PIMBackup on my windows mobile phone. I'd like to know if there is a similar app for android. My idea is ti let the app do sheduled backups of contacts,appointments... and if possible, upload them to Dropbox.
google is not free
you use their software
they sell your personal data
I wanted to know if there is a way to delete the entire google account back up data as i am doing something wrong and each time i flash a new rom and restore contacts...it seems to be duplicating contacts and restoring two of each which is very annoying.
Are you also restoring contacts with another app or using another Gmail account?
You would need to do this by logging into your Gmail account on a computer & then going into your contacts from there. I saw an app that merges contacts via your Gmail account on the computer, it's somewhere on the forums but it's been awhile.
So I sync'd with my google account and it imported all my contacts, the only problem now is that I do not want my google account sync'd however if I delete it, it will delete all of my contacts with it off the phone. Is there a way I can transfer all google contacts currently in my phone contacts to sim without third party app?
I'm assuming that when you say you don't want you're google account synced you mean your mail right? Because you do want your google contacts? If this is indeed what you want, settings> accounts & sync> your google account> uncheck everything besides contacts. If that's not what you want, can you try explaining in another way so I can help.
Hello, I do not want my google account sync' anymore even though I have already disabled mail and everything else to be sync'd I do not want my google account associated with this phone. however I have no choice because whenever I try to delete the google account off my phone its says all of the contacts will erase with it too. I have been trying to find how to copy all of my google contacts to the sim but no apps have been working
Phone>menu> people> menu> export to sd card. Once exported, go through the same steps but instead choose import to from sd card and choose phone as the location. You may now not sync google account while keeping your contacts. Keep i'm mind that new contacts will be erased if you do a factory reset as google us not syncing and backing then up anymore.
okay, so im an iphone convert. i just recently got the Infuse yesterday. I manually entered all of my contact.
unfortunatly, under "save new contacts to" it was set to phone. and it didnt sync the contacts to my google account.
i have recently changed the "save new contact to" google. Unfortunately, there is no way to move the one i entered into this category, thus they dont sync to google. i created a "TEST" contact, and that synced right away. Even after manually syncing and getting an updated date/time the contacts (that were saved to phone) wont sync over. is there a way i can get them to sync over?
Menu, Export contacts, export to SD card. Mount SD card, pull contact file, upload to Google Contacts.
im trying to remember how i did this, i once had he same problem as you. one way is to create the contacts again (just the names) those new names will be sync'd to google and then you can merge them to the ones with numbers. you might also be able to create a v-card then wipe all your contacts then import the v-card that might work, not sure though.
I dont remember how to do that BUT you can go into your gmail.com enter you account and just under Mail theres
"Contacts"
You can manually enter them... yeah i know "Again??"
Unfortunately yeah... BUT atleast you get a solid physical keyboard to type them.
So I have a gmail account and hotmail account with contacts synced to my phone. Spent 3 hours joining contacts/ updating emails etc. I then used the merge with google in the contacts menu, but not all of the contacts show up in my google accounts. I then export to vcard, transfer vcard to another phone, but all of the contacts are not updated/joined.
Very frustrating...
I basically want to have the same contacts on my phone, gmail and hotmail accounts, and have all 3 synced all the time. What's the best way of doing this?
i dnt know if it works cross phone but titanium back up of the contacts settings and details etc, (may cause problems as the settings are optimized for a specific phone.) i used this to copy contacts back to phone after changing roms, but some htc like roms conflict with settings in samsung type roms etc.. its worth a shot as long as you got a nandroid back up you will be ok i doubt you'll need it just for contacts though
Menu button -> Import/Export -> Export to external storage. After done, transfer the generated file to another phone. There, Contacts app -> Import/Export -> Import from external storage
Copy contacts to him card. Then import them on the other phone

So were you using google sync?
If you install google sync all you have to do with your new phone or with any phone is link that phone to google sync and all the contacts will automatically sync to your phone?
This brings back bad memories. The only option I came across, after much reading, were paid apps to sync. Going to check and see if I saved them. I did use kies/free trial of google sync (only available to business or something along those lines...), which made a mess of outlook.
The method above, export to card/import from card works. The issue for me is keeping them synced.

This does not keep the contacts merged. I went through and manually merged my hotmail/cellphone and gmail contacts in my ATT S2, and I want to transfer that list completely intact to my Telus S2. It shows up as individual contacts again though =/
i have all contacts backed up to titanium, as well as vcf and kies, so I'll try some things out tonight. Worst case, I'll clean my gmail contacts, fix it all there, and then clone to hotmail and my phone
