EB13w/ Ext4 but not sure if it's really eb13w - Epic 4G Android Development

I have 2.2.1 and did the steps for EB13 & Ext 4. Under ROM manager, out atoll shows Clock work mod 2.5 & I thought I had 3. Where did that go and also, how do I tell if I have an Ext4 file system now?

cwm3 isnt "officially" supported and thus it doesn't show up on rom manager. also you cant use rom manager to reboot into clockwork 3 because it won't recognize your sd card. turn the phone off and rebbot into recovery by pressing vol down, camera, power all at once. When it comes up it should be orange writing if you are on cwm3. Blue is still stock samsung, green is 2.5.
To see if you are on eb13 go to settings > about phone.

Will do!
Thanks for the succinct tip

Did u do the 1 clock root with cwm3.0.0.6 or no? Cuz if u didn't do that u won't have ext4.

in clockworkmod just scroll down to mounts and storage n click on it and then click on mount /system. i do it because thats what ive heard to do. some update.zips automatically do it themselves and some dont. if you mount it manually it wont mess anything up. if you dont mount the system and it doesnt do it automatically some stuff wont flash right. so i just mount it lol
Good call will do in the future thanks for your help :<)

[MOD]UPDATE:6-14-11 Ladies and Gentlemen i bring you SGS4g EXT4

Ladies and Gentlemen i bring you ext4 sgs4g
What this does: Converts your system, data, and cache into ext4(system is optional)
What does that mean: Its basically like supercurios voodoo, makes phone performance boost DRAMATICALLY!!!
Improves graphics
higher quad scores(for those who care)
faster I/O performance
KNOWN ISSUES: if you convert system to ext4 you will have the battery issue along with the recovery issue
HOW DO I NOT CONVERT SYSTEM TO EXT4???
simply flash the rom after the converter and then either:
A:flash the rom again (BE SURE TO CHECK MOUNTS AGAIN!)over the same rom you just flashed
or
B: flash drhonks 2.1 kernel UV or non UV CHECK MOUNTS AGAIN!
or
C: restore ONCE
EDIT:^^^^ SLIGHTLY INCORRECT FOR NOT CONVERTING SYSTEM TO EXT4 ill edit it in the morning
NOW... if you decide you want to go back to rfs because you cant stand to see read writing when going into recovery(you just cant use recovery, but who uses recovery?? i only use CWM and you can still enter cwm when going into recovery)
then heres a rfs converter which will rewrite your files back to rfs
BEWARE: when using rfs converter it will format SDCARD so back it up before converting back
Now, here is what you need:
Krylons FINAL CWM
either non UV or UV version of dhonks 2.1 bali
ext4 converter, at the bottom of my post
go into cwm and make a back up
MAKE SURE YOU CAN RESTORE OR ELSE YOU WILL HAVE TO FLASH A NEW ROM!!
flash the ext4 converter
NOW as soon as its done flashing you need to do one of the following IMMEDIATELY:
A.flash a new rom
B. restore the back up you just made
EDIT: YOU GUYS HAVE TO CHECK MOUNTS IF INSTALLING A NEW ROM
POSSIBLY CHECK MOUNTS WHEN RESTORING AS WELL
NOTE: IF YOU ARE FLASHING A NEW ROM IT MUST HAVE DRHONKS 2.1 BALI KERNEL WITH EXT4 SUPPORT
IF YOUR RESTORING MAKE SURE YOU BACKED UP WITH DRHONKS 2.1 BALI INSIDE
then my friends,
you now have an ext4 system, data, cache
go ahead and give the phone about 10 to 20 minutes to adjust
have some F'ing fun
make sure to let me know if you encounter any problems
THANKS TO:
Rodderick for the original guide
dameon for this ext4 converter
Creator of RFS formatter
krylon for ext4 CWM(you guys probably didnt know it was compatible)
and drhonk for ext4 Kernel
and of course as always the community
Woooo hoooo!!! +1

No root after MIUI flash

I obtained root via Odin as superoneclick didn't work. Then i flashed the latest version on MIUI and I lost root access. A couple of forums said superuser needs to be enabled in the settings. However when I opened superuser and looked under preferences there was no toggle to enable it.

There is an app in tools called Superuser, not the one you download from market. It will have the enable toggle.

1: Download sgs kernel flasher
2: Download CWM community kernel
3: Flash kernel via sgs kernel flasher "unchecked the reboot button" when done flashing turn phone of "SHUTDOWN"
4: 3 finger until the Samsung logo pops up keep holding the buttons the screen will go black then Samsung logo will come up, let go of the power button and keep hold the volume up and down buttons "For about 20 seconds" then let go it should boot into Red CWM after a few seconds.
5: Go to install zip from SD card go all the way down and run update.zip it will boot back into RED CWM run update.zip again and it should now boot into GREEN CWM
6: From here Re-Flash MIUI "New Release would be smart", Wipe Fact,Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik, Flash, reboot at sign of Samsung logo pull battery, 3 finger into blue recovery and flash again.
7: Presto you should be set and have recovery back.
The app in my tools folder has no toggle and I can't use sgs kernel flasher cause I don't have root access... I didn't download superuser from the market

There is no superuser in my tools folder
Sent from my SGH-I997 using XDA App
Everybody needs to read we have answered this same question over 20 times in the last week lol.. Do not use the downloadable super user app. When you flash miui there's a tools folder in that there's a super user app, click on it got menu button on bottom of phone, click turn root on. NOW YOU HAVE ROOT. Second follow my instructions to get recovery back there on the first page of Jordan's post and also posted in this thread. If anyone who is having these problems is reading this please research and check threads before over posting questions. Thanks

Oh with all due respect I have read all of it... and I know how to get recovery back, but it's kinda hard to flash recovery kernel when kernel flasher requires root! Trust me I tried everything I knew before I posted.... I did not download any superuser app from the market.... the superuser app in the tools folder does not have a toggle for root... and I know what it looks like been running miui since it came out for infuse... thanks... just want my root back..

Then just Odin back to stock. Opimus most people like myself are flashing Jordan's MIUI just fine. I did lose recovery, but I got fixed with LGs fix. Dman I hope you get it fixed.

At least in my case, I agree something is not right with rooting after I updated to MIUI-Infuse-1.10.14. The superuser app is different then last week's (1.10.7) and no apps show up in the approved list.
I reloaded last week's MIUI-Infuse-1.10.7 and the apps show up in the MIUI list but some apps work ok...others don't. Went back to 1.10.14, same problem.
I think I'll wait till this week's update and then start trying some of the solutions already posted. yeha!!
Thank you cajun that's what I thought I would have to do, just thought someone would have an easier solution before I went thru the pain of reverting back to stock... the thing is everything was great with all the other updates until I updated to 1.10. 14. Then everything went bye bye.. lol.. thanks for the help everyone you guys are really great and helpful.

Thanks, but that is where I'm confused. What are the steps to use CWM to install? When I tried this my status bar went away completely.
Can you make one with the following colors?
Blue

Yellow
Orange
Red
Same thing when you are charging.
Blue is highest & Red is lowest.
I never used CWM to flash, just used recovery... but I tried it and I thought everything was working but my phone rebooted and the battery meter didnt change... can someone check if my steps are right...
1. open cwm
2. click on "flash update"
3. find the file
4. once the file pops up on the top, click on that
5. press flash
phone than shows recovery menu and does something, reboots...yet battery meter hasn't changed

You can also manually copy the files from the zip with Root Explorer, then reboot.

This is CWM flashable. Remember to take backup of your existing bootanimation.zip from /system/media location.

I make a habit to clear it every time I flash something new. After you flash, you can wipe it in the Advanced menu in CWM. When your phone reboots, be sure to not touch ANYTHING and let it sit for 10-15 minutes to let it rebuild. If you don't, your phone will lag.
If you didn't give sufficient time for your phone to rebuild the dalvik cache, you can always go into the Advanced menu in CWM and wipe it again. You'll just have to wait the 10-15 minutes again.
