I want to wait on using cm7 til there is atleast a new release candidate, so I'm restoring my backup of rooted stock. But I have my apps on an ext 4 partition. Are there any kernels that support ext 4?

Ok lets be clear let me understand this you are waiting for new CM7 RC/SR? Why not just use NB? Now that being said you want to now revert back to stock rom? Why not use something like IG then? it has built in Ext4 support as its using Gorilla's OC kernel v0.5 or you can use both Gorilla's and grankin01's newest OC kernel on stock rom.

So I just rooted my MT4GS using revolutionary and should now have full access of my phone. So now, how do I delete some useless apps that came pre installed on the phone like Netflix??? Can anyone help me out???

Root explorer or system app remover. Both apps in the android market. Make sure you backup your current rom.

What do you mean back up my current ROM and why? I currently have stocked ROM, however, I wanna cook that supercharged ROM on my phone that you have. I only cooked 1 ROM before on my TP2, so I'm not am expert.lol Hopefully it's not too complicated for me.
P.S. You are AWESOME....you ROCK!!!

Go into recovery and make a nandroid backup of your romantic in case you mess things up. You can easily start over with no issues. You can also use rom manager to make the backup.

Okay, made a nadroid back up and saved it. Can I now flash a custom ROM onto my phone? Will I be able to save all my contacts, bookmarks etc to my new ROM? And how?

just save ur contacts to ur google account and then setup ur gogle account with ur new rom and something else u might want is titanium backup to backup all ur apps
I am in pretty much the same boat as this user is. Right now as we speak (err..I type) I am backing up all of my applications utilizing My Backup Pro ($4.99 in Android Market) which will work with ROOTED phones from what I have read from the manufacturer.
Once I do this I will make the Nandroid Backup as stated? (Yes. This is a ? not a statement. >
Yes, that is what you do.
When do you not make a Nandroid backup?

You would need to flash a kernel. My sig has links to them. Wipe cache and davik before flash also nandroid. They have issues like random reboots and shutdowns. Unity has one at 1.7ghz roman has kanged at 1.5 and an undervolt as well.
sent from my RuBiX infused MT4G Slide using xda premium
Most importantly, don't forget to make a nandriod back up. Believe me, you might regret it if you don't. Also Unity's V1 kernel is way more stable than their V2 (I've tried them both), ultimately, you will have to experiment and see which one you like best.

I though you could overclock the stock rom like I could with the G2, why can't the slide stock rom be overclocked?

Because there's no stable overclock kernel yet in spite of source being out.
Where does Revolutionary save the NAND?
I have NOT fully erased my 32GB Micro SD card since I made my NAND backup onto the card. What files are involved with introducing this backup. I do not want to delete those files... But I THINK I already did .... $#@% OOOPS!
I have a vibrant and a mytouch 4g and i know almost how to do everything on these phones and u guys know how stressful and how much information u need to suck in before u feel comfortable attempting to root and flash roms and I'm used to rom manager and stuff that I understand u can't use on this phone So my friend wants me to root his galaxy s 4g so it can be faster and have a lot more app space. But I don't feel like researching and testing for hours. So I was wondering if u guys could help me out and point me to the best way to root and best rom and tweaks to apply and if u guys could I would be forever grateful. Thanks.

Best way to root is to Odin a modded kernel. You get root and clockworkmod in one shot. Just use a gb kernel if on gb and if on froyo use a froyo kernel. as far as roms go I loved Valhalla. Very few issues and good speed/battery life.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Well he is on froyo now but would want to get to gingerbread what would I want to flash I'm guessing gingerbread but just want to make sure and could u recommend one that is good and can undervolt
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Personally I would use kies mini to upgrade to the official gingerbread then Odin a modded kernel to get root and cwm then flash either whitehawkx's Valhalla or ravers' octane rom. Flashing a gb rom while on froyo will cause bootloader issues.

I have a Vibrant also and after doing alot of searching and reading I found a thread called GB Ext4 Starter Pack which you can find here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223765
Follow it exactly and your friends phone will be fine. I also recommend flashing the Valhalla Final Rom. It is by far the best Rom I've tried for the SGS4G. Good luck.
Thank u everybody

this rom requires that i need to convert file system to ext4 for best performance....so how to do that ???....and may it lose all my data ????....sorry for my bad english...
Download sgs kernel flasher from the market, use it to flash the community kernel v8. That will give you ext4 partitions. Then use CWM to install the ROM. your contents on both sd cards will be safe but emails and wireless passwords will be deleted, and all your apps.

You don't have to do anything. The kernel already made the changes for you.
I am a noob so yeah....
I have bwen rooted for a little while and had A question on roms.
When we get the fixed gb update and I update while I have a rom will it take me back to stock or will I have to flash stock to update?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
Any new ROM, unless its an update specific to your ROM made by your ROM maker, it is nearly always recommended to clean flash it (need not go to stock).
Just wait til the update is implemented in the ROM. Done.

The same way you flashed CM, download, put on the root of your sd card, and flash them. I believe these are the latest: http://cmw.22aaf3.com/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip

So you obviously know way more then I do about this what is the best rom in your opinion? And does that app pack work on all roms or just cyanogen mod?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
It works on all ROMs except the CM9 alpha that was released. Until you're less new you might want to hold off on that until there is a stable release.
Thanks the cyanogen nightly that I installed is slower then the stock one .just wondering what roms are best
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Google Euroskank and go to the first one that pops up, hit the P999 tab and grab the latest and grab any of the custom kernels that strike your fancy or do what I started to do and try one for a week or two and see how I like it.
I thought those were only for the O2x not g2x
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Nope, just make sure you choose P999 from their page. The official CM got was down and I liked their nightlies and had no problems I didn't have on the stable release.

So what would be the best in your opinion to use
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Kernel?
It depends: If you want battery life get Trinity ELP (I that's the one, the one which only allows to OC to 1.1GHz) if you want pure power go for Faux, if you want a balance (don't know if it has Voodoo sound though) go for Dragon for CM7 (not OTA).
So I take it that you can use different kernals with different roms and you flash them the same as the roms?

Most, if not all of the newer custom roms are debloted, meaning the bloat has been removed in OTA based roms. If its AOSP or CM based, it's built without bloat.
