[Q] Nexus S Limited camera features using Modaco r13 - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I installed the MoDaCo r13 last night and since then the camera has limited features, the flash is off and I cannot set it on even though the light works with an LED app, I can also not set the focus mode or white balance.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes I have experienced this before, but it wasn't caused by any particular roms.
I fixed it by clearing cache/data for the camera app.

Help : Touchscreen Un-Responsive Bug?

Hi there XDA.. I recently have been experiencing problems with my Nexus S. The first one has been the G-Mail.... say I get a new Email.. ill pull down my status bar... click on the email, then it'll switch to gmail app. I can view everything in the app... and the four bottom keys (home, back, menu, search) all do their respective jobs.. but there's absolutely no feedback from the screen when you press on Something. Thank God its only that app. But I also experienced a problem when trying to install 3rd party apps. Everything goes throughfine..then it takes me to the screen where it warns you about what permissions you're giving the app.... and whether you want to install it or cancel. Well... everything on this screen is responsive except for the Instal button. I've tried to factory reset twice... and well.... the same problems keep coming up. I was woundering if anyone else had these problems ? Of if there was a solution? Thanks so much!

Are you using the stock kernel?? the Netarchy kernel have a touch tweak, you can use it and check if it fix the problem...
I haven't touched the kernel .... but what would I use to flash a new kernel? Definitely not odin ... lol plus I'm on 2.3.4 soo.. gingerbreak isn't working so no root for me

Are you using any app to dim your screen?
Sent from my Nexus S c",)
Wow actually I'm using screen filter... do you think that's the problem? !?!?!?!?!?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
That's exactly what it is. I'm using that too that's why I know. Lol. I had the same problem I restored to factory also but then I eventually figured it out that screen filter is the culprit. Haha.
Sent from my Nexus S c",)
That's so stupid lmao. Thanks for the tip! Figure out exactly why it's the culprit? Btw it worked

No prob man. Glad I could help.

Screen filter is actually the culprit. It even mentions this issue on its info in the market. Though it also says that with the latest version of gmail the issue is gone.

Haha thanks. Checked it out on the market... how am I supposed to update gmail?

Camera bug

Does anyone else have this issue? Since my upgrade to gingerbread on a completely stock phone, whenever I exit my camera my screen brightness turns all the way down until I lock and unlock my screen.... Any fix??
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
I haven't experienced this yet. Try installing the LG Cam.
Sent from my LG G2X using XDA Premium for Android
It's no fix, but an easy way to figure out a little more would be to use the stock power console widget and set it to it's brightest setting. A before and after might tell you whether the camera is adjusting the current brightness setting or toggling something else.
It is only when auto brightness is on. I'm using launcher pro as well. Can anyone duplicate this?

No. Mine is completely stock Gingerbread V21e, including the stock launcher; I'm using auto-brightness, and I don't have that problem.
Ok what is really weird is I removed the default for launcher pro to try the stock launcher, and it didn't happen. I now tried again with launcher pro and it went away. This has been plaguing me since I upgraded 2 weeks ago, and now just vanished.... Hmmmm....

G2x is still a new phone and they're still rolling out the 2.3.3 GB update (after testing and problems and bricks) I'm sure the bugs will get worked out as the phone ages. But I'm glad to hear the problem fixed itself. If it ever continues, I'd look into replacing the phone just in case its an issue with the phone itself.
The screen auto brightens when you open the camera app and goes back to normal when you close it.

It happened to me before the update.

This seems to be the the Camera, did you recently install any Camera/Video/Scanner/QRreader/Torch/ect. applications?

Well, if you actually used it, it's quite normal that it has a high amount of energy consumption. The Camera Hardware is engery hungry.
If not, and a reboot doesn't fix it, I'm alredy running out of ideas. Maybe some additional informations (e.g. Better Battery Stats) can help to identify the problem
Have you searched? A Google search brings up apps like reality piano, airdroid and a yahoo messenger being culprits. Any of those?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
its the camera daemon. if you started the cam, and exited it, but didnt close/kill it, it temains running under some circumstances. either "kill" the camera or just reboot to fix it.

[Q] New camera and HDR+

Hey people,
I really like the new camera but I have one issue which really annoyes me.
I always use HDR, and in the previous camera when I enabled it it out would remember my selection and HDR was always the default setting, but now it always resets and I have to enable it almost every time I open the camera. Sometimes it stays on, didn't really understand why (even after closing the camera from recent apps). Is there a way to have HDR always enabled?
Mine persists even through a reboot. Try wiping data in the camera app.

i think those custom rom's can not have hdr+ active out of the box for closed source or something. i have seen a lot of posts about that already. you have to flash certain gapps first. look into the camera thread in general section.

[Q] Google search update lag

I have had a look online to see if others are having my problem but can't seem to find anything on it so thought i would ask here.
A few months back i created a thread regarding lag issues on my nexus 5 more specifically app drawer opening/closing lag, well after flashing back to stock, unrooting and factory resetting a few times the lag was still there UNTIL i turned off auto update apps and the lag dissapeared so i figured it must be an app so after a while of trying to find out which one it is i found out it was the updated google search causing the lag for some reason so i uninstalled the updates and the lag dissapeared and now i have had auto update off for a couple of months.
Well now i want to turn auto update all apps on again and update the google search app to get ok google again but again after updating the lags back so had to delete it once again, anyone got any ideas on why this is happening? I have already tried rebooting the phone which didn't make a difference so i wiped dalvik and cache again this didn't make any difference
Bump

Your post is long, and confusing. Are you experiencing lag when opening app drawer? Are you saying that updating any Google services through the play store causes your phone to lag? Can you tell us what's your phone set up?

Yes the lag is there when opening and closing the app drawer. The only google service that causes this is the google search app, when i uninstall it through play store it just uninstalls the updates so i lose the ok google hotword feature but the lag is completely gone and the phone is buttery smooth, as soon as i update it again the lag starts.
I'm on a rooted nexus 5 4.4.2 running a stable release of faux kernel that's it everything else is stock

is it possible for you to recreate the lag again, and check your processes to see if there's anything running in the background that might cause the lag.

The lag is still there as i have updated google search so the app draw is still stuttering. I checked running applications on settings but there doesn't seem to be anything abnormal but i don't really know what i am looking for though

I'm referring to any apps, specifically from Google, that's running in the background. It might be taking up a large chunk of your processing power or downloading something, causing your phone to lag. Are you running Dalvik or Art?

Can you switch to ART and see if the problem persist? If you are not comfortable switching, you could flash the Dalvik+Bionic library optimization. I found it very smooth, compared to stock Dalvik.
Also, scale down Windows animation and Transition animation to .5x in developer options.

That's a crude way of putting it, but yes. In a way we're all trying to mask our phone's shortcomings. Seeing that even though we all have the same phones, yet some are better than others, some encounter more problems than others, some have better battery life than others. You can't come in here and expect your phone to be perfect with no problems. Sometimes we find a fix, sometimes we find a workaround. It's hard to pinpoint the problem without much in-depth troubleshooting, but if it "fixes" the problem, than that should be sufficient for now right?
(damn I feel like a philosopher)

But since they are all mass produced shouldn't they all produce the same results? I mean they aren't exactly living beings like us some being more successful than others lol so would you say mine is actually a faulty device? I've just switched to ART so will test it a little, i didn't switch earlier due to ART not being fully stable and ready not sure if that's changed now

If that was the case, this whole forum would not exist. Every phone is different, even if they're the same model. We tweak it and mod it to our liking, and we never stop trying to bring it to its optimum ability.
Yes ART is unstable to some apps and mods. Before rooting my phone, I was on ART for a few months on stock. It was very smooth, and surprisingly didn't have any incompatibility issues. After root, in order to have Xposed, I had to switch to Dalvik. There was definitely some lag issues. I also experienced them with the app drawer, similar to yours. But to circumvent that, I flashed the Dalvik+Bionic libraries and it was as smooth, if not smoother, than it was while I was on stock ART.

So your saying that let's say we both bought the same phone in this case the nexus 5 and when we turn it on it's brand new so nothing installed on it yet but one phone has lag but the other is as smooth as butter would you consider that perfectly normal or would you think something is wrong?
I have been running ART for a few hours now and unfortunately the lag is still there, once i uninstall the google search app updates it goes back to being as smooth as butter same as when i was on dalvik but like dalvik once i install it again the lag comes back
