I just returned my Moto Atrix 4G, and bought Inspire 4G instead, and I love the Super LCD screen. however, after I root and flash to Andriod rev's ROM, I notice there is no H+ (only shows H) shows on my phone. ( when I had Atrix, I always see H+). Does it mean I mess up with the radio stuff?
In addition, what software do u guys use to keep the battery runs longer ? i have heard that Inspire sucks on battery life.
H+ is an AT&Tspecific icon on the stock rom. It shows whenever you are on 3g or faster. Not any real indication of anything really.
You're better off with the custom rom anyways, as it most likely has hsupa enabled.
This is correct, the icon is just that, an icon. H+ was ATTs way of indicating a 3G, HSDPA, or (if available) HSPA+. Different ROMs will use different icons.
i.e. I'm on Revolution and there's an H icon for HSDPA (and I assume HSPA+, but it's not available in my area yet so I don't know), and a separate 3G icon for 3G. Also a E icon when connected to Edge (stock ROM does this too I believe)
thank you guys. this phone rocks, much better than Atrix, except the battery life.

my old phone was Tattoo and it was always staying on HSPA or something like that! now on my nexus I'm always on 3G!
what can you tell me about this, or how can I fix it?
Stock Android does not distinguish between 3G and HSDPA on the status bar. You should still be getting HSDPA speeds though.
that's kinda odd! thanks for the answer...
Most people don't know the difference between Edge, 3G, or any of the HSPA variants (HSPA, HSPA+, HSDPA, HSUPA). Heck they don't even know what 4G is and couldn't tell you what on earth LTE, WiMax, or HSUPA is. Stock Android doesn't differentiate because people know what 3G means and since HSPA is still technically at the most 3.5G it is a little confusing to change the symbol. The mass population dictates the way things work and we here at XDA find ways to make it work the better way. =) Hence the reason why a good number of custom roms allow for the OS to differentiate between each individual type of data network usage.
Ever since I been having my Inspire I never seen 3G show up on my status bar. I always see H+ available, H+ connected and E. Never seen 3G yet, what's up with that.

H+ is AT&T's work toward 4G and its faster than your 3G, they have provided this service to all their customers. This is something that happened a few weeks ago...

ATTs stock ROM uses an H+ icon to indicate connectivity to 3G (UMTS), 3.5G (HSDPA), and "4G" (HSPA+). They do this to make customers think that they're ocnnected to "4G" HSPA+ all the time, even when it's not available in your area. Stock ROM also has an E icon for EDGE. Most of the ported DHD ROMs have an E icon for EDGE, a 3G icon for UMTS, and an H icon for HSDPA and HSPA+. The only way you can tell for sure what network you're connected to is by going to Settings - About Phone - Network and looking at your Mobile network type. This will tell you which network you are actually connected to
H is the 3G icon. that is just the way att is displaying it. you wont see 3G as they are calling it H. H stands for HSDPA which is 3g, so no worries you are fine.
Im going to get the inspire this week but i live in latinamerica, in here we dont the so called "4g" damn we barely have 3g so i was thinking this is going to have a HUGE impact in the already crappy battery life , is there a way to turn off the 4g and just saty in 3g/2g without having to install cm7?
The 3G and 4g are the same. AT&T calls it's hspa network 4g, although else ware it's referred to as 3G. In fact, even at&t called it 3G until recently.
To answer your question, you just have 2 settings. Hspa and edge. So it's 3G/4g or 2g.

i remember i read somewhere that the evo 4g had an option for switching between 4g and 3g, the 3g from sprint is different? im confused with this stupid marketing move of the so called 4g, and verizon's 4g is just marketing too?
In latin america im gonna get a 4g icon on my phone when im actually just getting 3g? or the 4g sign will appear when it's suppossed to be displaying the ”h” icon , which is the one im getting with my milestone right now
Yep, the evo has two radios. One is cdma and the other is wimax.
The inspire will also display an H. Actually H+.

If you want to just stick to 2G, you can download Extended Controls from the market and put a 2G/3G toggle on your homescreen. Sticking to 2G will increase your battery life, too.

no, i dont wanna stick to just 2g, so the radios for 3g and 3g are different? when i get 3.5 g the notification bar is gonna display a "H" or its gonna appear as a "H+"
On The HTC Inspire the H+ icon well display for both 3G and HSPA+. So you will not no when your on HSPA+ unless you go to Settings and click on About Phone and then click on Network, and under Mobile Network Type it will say either: HSPDA (3.5g) or HSPA+ (I'm assuming).
I desperately need a solution to this as well.
At work the 3G signal is very crappy and the constant searching and switching all but kills my battery in less than 8 hours. I also get missed calls.
The custom ROM I had in my previous phone (Tilt 2) had the 3G Toggle and it worked beautifully... my battery lasted for 2 days.
*#*#4636#*#* doesn't make the GSM selection stick.
I tried several apps from the market and they only take me to settings and there is nothing there to change to force the phone into constant Edge.

Try using CM7. It does have the functional use 2G(EDGE) only.
I know that since i modded to ARHD, the 4G icon is in fact changed to an "H" I have been getting an "E". searched the forums, no mention. what is "E" thanks
E stands for "Edge" (which is labeled as 2G in the T-Mobile stock rom).
H is for HSPA+, 3 is for 3G (obviously).
There should be a flashable zip somewhere for you to change it back to the T-Mobile-style labeling if you want.
I've since it done on other versions of the galaxy and I tried to mimic what they did to see if I could get into a menu to change the settings. I found one that worked for me you just go to dial and enter *#*#4636#*#* then it will take you to the menu where you can change what preferred network type you want to use but keeps changing it back to default. Anyone know how to possibly save this setting or something?
Why do you believe you aren't getting "4G" on the phone? Is it the "H" that you are seeing when you are sending/receiving data and the "3G" when you are not? If so, that is completely expected behavior. The SGS4G is not a true 4G phone in the sense that it is not capable of using LTE.
Okay I see your point, mine does "3g" "h" and "e" figured when I had it back on gingerbread it said "4g" that it could handle "4g" coverage but now I'm assuming "h" is now the term it says for having "4g"?
T-Mobile, at least when this phone was released, did not have significant LTE coverage, but did have HSPA+ (21-42 Mbps download speeds). They advertised HSPA+ as "4G"
They probably weren't the only ones that "fudged" on that. It is definitely faster than 3G speeds for HSPA, but not all consider HSPA+ a "true" 4G.
T-Mobile ROMs and those "cooked" from them, not surprisingly, promoted the HSPA+ connection as "4G" in the UI. AOSP, CyanogenMod, and similar ROMs were a little more "honest" about things. There are patches somewhere to change the icon to "4G" if it makes you smile more.
