Is there a way to power off the the G Tab without physically pushing the power button?
Something similar to the linux "shutdown -h now" ?
You could try
reboot -p
Worked for me.
I assume I need access to a console and need to use the virtual keyboard. Correct?
If yes, how can I do that?
Anyone know about Soft Power Off App?

I use GScript Lite for all my scripting needs.
if your gtab is rooted, you can try quick boot from market
Extended controls has buttons for reboot or power down... Use it all the time. Works great!

Hi guys,
My digitizer has died, and till the new one comes I was thinking of how I could use my T7272, I can write the SMS fine, but I can't send them out, cause the button is on the screen itself... is there a rom I could use freely w/o using the touchscreen?
P.S.
Is the digitizer hard to replace?
You could check out AE Button; it has some options like button presses that will activate soft buttons. I suspect you could send sms's using it. You could also try using mortscripts with AE button that will do stuff you need. There are some pretty simple scripts that will simulate screen taps, and you could assign them to a button push. I'd rather have a working touchscreen, though.
Here are some of the commands:
# 91: startmenu (on some devices it might be home button)
# 92: back key (not the backspace key but back key for closing applications which is available on some devices such as diamnd or blackstone)
# 93: menu key
#112: left softkey
#113: right softkey
#114: accept call (green button)
#115: hang up (red button)
#117: volume up
#118: volume down
#126: data disconnect
#127: toggle speaker
#133: devicelock
#223: power off
I use one to lock the device. Basically, you just put this:
Code:
sendspecial(133)
in a .txt file, and change the extension to .mscr. I call it Lock.mscr, and I have it assigned to a few different actions (like when a call comes in, a script locks the phone). So, sendspecial(112) and sendspecial(113) might help you out. There's also one for hitting 'Ok' in popups, which would probably work for you. I can't find it, though (google 'sendspecial' and you'll find it, it's all on msdn).
Anyway, if you install mortscript (maybe you already have it) as well as AE Button, you could assign button pushes to carry out those actions. Just stick the scripts somewhere easy, like the start menu, and it will be easy to set up.
If you want to get more complicated, there are also mortscript commands that simulate button pushes on the screen. You could set one up that would do just about anything. Also, SK Schema does similar stuff. You can write fairly simple sequences of button pushes that will do just about anything. This is one that I use that runs SK Tools Pim backup (I have it scheduled to run every night in the middle of the night).
#r(\windows\sktstart.exe) #p(STH:20)
#tap(146;602) #sleep(15000)
#tap(110;533) #sleep(500)
#tap(339;455) #sleep(500)
#tap(126;604) #sleep(500)
#tap(114;84) #sleep(500)
#tap(146;99) #sleep(5000)
#tap(310;254) #sleep(90000)
#tap(433;602) #sleep(10000)
#pwr() #sleep(10000)

Basically, the backup tool gets launched in line 1, then there are a bunch of screen taps (w/ delays, to make sure everything is ready) in the menus to get the right options selected, followed by turning the device off.
I`m not sure... But i saw somewhere app that emulate a mouse (cursor) and you will be able to control this mouse with your D-pad... But I can be wrong...
I can't install that mortscript w/o the touchscreen though..damn it..: )..
Get MyMobiler, and use it to run your device off of a pc. You should be able to get that working.
Is there a method of preventing the default android buttons: home, menu, search, and back from being active? Or locking the default android buttons while still able to use the device? It seems like I am constantly bumping these keys, as I'm always back on my home screen some how. I tried google with no luck. Currently running vegan tab beta 5.1 which of course has the soft keys to use instead.I am looking for either a permanent our semi-permanent method. Thanks in advance.

As mentioned somewhere here, you can use Button Remapper to remap those four buttons to focus, effectively turning them off.
In addition, I would recommend the use of Button Savior to give you the ability to bring up soft buttons when needed (i.e. in apps where the task bar is not visible).
Use them both...problem solved
Which Button Remapper? Did a search in the market, found one for the hero and galaxy tab?

Thank you gonna give that a try now.
This works really well. Now I just have to train myself out of trying to use the capacitive buttons.
Hi. I´ve been looking for weeks for a very simple and free application to power off my tablet (7" chinese, Android 2.1). Just that: to be able to turn it off with a click on the screen, instead of using the power button.
It may also be a widget.
Is something like this available ?
Thank you very much.
Button savior, in the market.

Thank you very much for all replies.
I have checked things, and it seems that:
Button Savior: requieres rooted android
Widgetsoid 2.x: requieres rooted android to be able to use the power off/reboot functions
Quick Boot: also seems to need a rooted android
Am I correct?
Thank you.

I have just installed Button Savior, and didn´t work.
I says "This function requieres Version 2.2" (froyo).
Still looking for some way to install a screen button (widget) or application to turn off my tablet. Thank you.
You want a button to power off the device, not just put it to sleep, correct?
If you want to put it to sleep (turn the screen off), widgetsoid does this as well as power down. However, Android does not allow for anything third party to power down the device. Therefore, you must be rooted. I know, it's lame, but I'm afraid there's no way for you to do this without first rooting your tablet.
To add a twist to this discussion, has anyone found or know of an app or a way besides the power button to turn ON my tablet? I have an Acer A100 that I plan to install in my car, and would like a way to both turn on and off the tablet when I get out. Any other ideas would be welcomed. I searched on here and a general google search, but was only able to find the off app, or apps to turn your tablet/phone into something else.
Has anyone remaped any of the softkeys on the TB
There's an app called "screen off and lock" that does this and more.

This works for simply remapping. Just did it to remap my MENU and HOME keys. Used Root Explorer. The file name is mecha-keypad.kl
So, I would imagine this would also work for mapping one of the keys to wake the phone however will still need to pull/push the file with ADB to do that.
Great find! Thanks. Been wanting to do this for weeks, now.

well i tried adb pull mecha-keypad.kl and put it on c drive then i edited with notepad++ by putting WAKE by the menu slot then pushed it back to its original location but it still will not wake device AM i doing something wrong???
I seen in there that there is also a mecha-keypad-v0.kl file maybe that needs to be edited to wake the device by pressing the MENU key???
any help??anyone
My power button is not gone yet but its close and if i could save it by relieving it a bit it would be nice
I doubt you'll be able to wake the phone with any soft key - I doubt the digitizer is active when the phone is asleep, so there's nothing watching for presses.
Button Mapper on the Play Store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton&hl=en
If your device is rooted, you have complete ability to remap the Bixby Button. You can disable the Bixby assistant, it does not need to be enabled for this to work. There are no compromises with this method. You can get rid of Bixby and program whatever single, double and long press actions you want.
If your device is not rooted, you can still remap Bixby using an experimental method. This method also works with Bixby disabled, and will allow you to map whatever actions you like to a single press or long press. It requires running a command in adb shell once. After this, the Bixby button can be remapped with Button Mapper. A slight inconvenience, but it works.
If you don't like the stuttering that occurs on Samsung devices with certain Accessibility features enabled, got to Advanced Options and select "Remap Bixby only"
Sweet, installing this now. I'll let you know if it works on my phone. Just what I was looking for.

It works fantastic on my cricket wireless s8 with unlocked firmware on it. Just tells me I will need to resubmit the adb command anytime I restart my phone. No big deal. This is great. No more Bixby..haha.
Its working just fine, i do not have any bixby apks on my device, and with root even working with screen off. Thanks @flar2 for your great work again.
Bought Premium already!
Installing now thanks @flar2

The only time I ever reboot is for system updates, so not a big deal for me either.
Hi flar,
Quick question, I already remapped my Bixby button to ASSIST action to have Google assistant on button press.
I am therefore rooted.
Would I need to remap the button to the stock feature, or can I leave it like this ?
Works like a charm ? thanks ?

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. You should be able to remap whatever you like. With root you can do almost anything.
best!
This is great!

My question is, should I revert the Generic Keylayout to its original state to use that app properly or not.
The only issue I have seen is now the volume slider only has 4 steps of volume instead of the 15 steps it used to have. When I do a volume up up or down it goes 25% each way. I uninstall this and it goes back to normal.
Am I missing something or what is the ADB command that I need to use?
Never mind.

Oh I see. You should not need to change the key layout, the point of the app is to modify without having to do that. It may not even work correctly if you've modified the keylayout file.
Really appreciate this app! Got the pro already.
About the Tasker intent, how does it work really?
Can't wait to test this app, although I have a question..why does this app needs access to observe the text you write, thy is this needed? Until now I used bxActoins which did not needed this but yours doesn't need bixby services enabled so I would like to try it.. I'm just curious why is this needed
EDIT: Just tried the app and its working really really well, I am very pleased with the result on non-rooted phone Is there a way to add the google now screen scan option to open? I used to get this smart screen search with the google now on my HTC 10 but now with this I can only see it opens either google assistant or google search..
Thank you for all your hard work, I appreciate it
App works great but it's limited on the functions of the button. Would be nice to be able to start up any app. Also, after uninstalling and rebooting, I can't seem to get bxActions to work again. The button is just disabled and doesn't do anything.
