My friend has the Nexus S and he says he has to reboot his phone DAILY.
Just wondering what other users' experience are before I take the plunge.

the same. only reboot to see a new bootanimation or when i do flashing/backup/restoring. other than that i dont see the need.
once a day to keep things under control
i never reboot but i do turn my phone off when im sleeping
I only reboot when new pics go missing in my Gallery or when Navigation crashes, which is about once a week.
depend
it depends...I only reboot if needed... hmm maybe 1 reboot every 2 days.
i started a thread called "what is your uptime" in the nexus one forums. at that time, my nexus one was running for 245 hours without a reboot (can see in the settings menu). that is about 11 days straight, and i regularly go longer, usually a few weeks between reboots. the other people who replied all had similar results and longer.
the android linux kernel is extremely solid and stable. without even trying, my phone runs for 3 weeeks or so without rebooting.
not sure about the nexus s, as gingerbread seems to have a few issues that froyo did not (when i started my thread).
as i type this post for example my up time is 230 hours. smooth as butter like always.
5 hours on mine
i usually only reboot when i flash something to my phone. that being said, generally im flashing things to my phone several times a day, every day. so im rebooting 2 or more times a day. there really isnt a need to reboot very often, but rebooting once a day will keep your phone on the quick side.
I reboot when i fix permissions, or flash rom or update or Kernel or whenever my phone does the random reboot bug.
I'd guess i never have reboot my phone because something went wrong, that i caused it to happen
I've never had to reboot because of a problem. Running stock 2.3.2.
My uptime is 25 hours at the moment as i updated the netarchy kernel to 1.2.7 yesterday (over stock 2.3.3)..
I had many reboots before the 2.3.3 update (not my choice the phone just did it often when on a call). But now its purely up all the time unless updating or playing about.

Wife's tbolt starting rebooting a couple times a day about a week ago. Did the update friday night and has rebooted twice since then. Thinking it might be hardware related if others have had their reboots fixed.
Probably going to call verizon next time it does this to try and get a replacement.
I've had only one that I've noticed so far, but that makes it less than the 3-4 daily I noticed with the most recent leak prior (mr2.5 thingee)
No reboots for me since the update. Of course Verzion only claimed this OTA would reduce the number of reboots not do away with them. I hope for you that they don't try to pull then when you ask for a new unit.

same story -- i'm still getting them occasionally but not as often. I was all excited about the update, but a few hours after it installed I was browsing the web and - bam - reboot. It's like a slap in the face. I've also been having a serious problem with my TB just discharging itself overnight... while plugged into the wall charger. I wake up and it has a completely dead battery which is a major PITA, doubly so because I use it as my alarm clock.
My TB has been up since the update on Friday. It used to reboot multiple times a day. Hope this lasts for me.

I have never had a reboot and I have been rooted since a week after owning the TBolt... I guess just lucky
Haven't had a reboot since memorial day weekend.
Never had a reboot before or after the update....I just bought my Tbolt two weeks ago, maybe they corrected the rebooting issues with the current hardware?? I mean if users are still rebooting after the update maybe its not software...
I've been really really lucky here I guess. I bought my Thunderbolt about a week after it came out and have had maybe 3-4 reboots since then. I have gone through a few roms/kernals/radios but never any issues. It must just be a hit/miss thing with hardware to be honest. Either that or the network, I'm in West Lafayette maybe our network is just far superior
The only gripe I have had is shutdowns, which IMO are more annoying because I can't just turn it back on, I have to pull the battery and wait a couple minutes before putting it back in and then waiting another minute before it responds to the power button to turn it back on again.
All in all I am happy with it compared to all others complaints on reboots. I would rather have a small number of reboots/shutdowns than a refurbished phone with possibly more issues.
I've been rebooting still like CRAZY. Before and after the update. I got on Verizon and received my phone on Thursday. It was rebooting over and over and over... I noticed it happened if I left wifi coverage at work or home. Even after the update, same thing! Rebooting over and over like no tomorrow.
I noticed that with LTE on it would loose connectivity all together until I manually rebooted. If I was on Edge or 3G it would stay up longer. I have since then turned off LTE and it has been fine, but still reboots every few hours.

I have had 1 reboot after having mine for over a month or so now. Been rooted since day 1 and have changed radios multiple times along with ROMs/Kernels. I guess we are both lucky?
Never once had a reboot. Custom rom since day one though. Stock sucks.
On a helpful side though. Always best to do a hard reset after a update. I know its a pain but it is the best solution normally.

I didn't have any when I first got my phone, right at release. About 2 weeks in I started to get the freezing/reboot issue occasionally. It went away for a time when I started modding my phone with ROMs. I'm currently running Weapon G2X, and for a time had no reboot issues. Now, about 3-4 weeks into using that rom, they are becoming a problem. My G2X now seems to reboot once every couple of days or so, normally when I'm using the phone. I'll be in messaging, hit back, then it locks up and reboots on me.
How are your issues? Still having them or no? I plan to update Weapon sometime in the next couple of weeks, or perhaps give CM7 a go.
Just got mine from CL last week. Have yet to experience a reboot or freeze. Maybe it's just a few batches of G2x's that experience that.
mine hardly ever freezes up to be honest. I am using xboarders tweakd GB rom. But then again, I've never really had an issue where it just reboots itself even before rooting. my phone does sometimes run really slow though.

Really? Slow-ness should definitely not be an issue with this phone. Have you tried Weapon or Cm7?
I've only had one reboot and I had this phone for 5 months. I got a reboot when I was showing my friend. How fast and cool my new phone was. He asked to see it then he pulled down the notification bar and it just rebooted. Other then that one time, never happens.

What reboot issues?
Never had it happen after 5 months of owning the phone.
Stock, rooted, Go launcher ex, SetCPU -> almost no reboots.
Before those steps, quite a few reboots per week.

I've been trough various roms and had the stock froyo in the beginning for quite some time - never had a reboot or a freeze. Only once, I remember, it would not recognize the headphones that I was plugging in and I had to reboot.
I've only had my phone reboot once when messing with SetCPU. Other than that, no reboots. I got my G2x within a week of it coming out and have never exchanged it.
i'm using pure stock so i'm not sure if you want my opinion but i've had the phone for a month now. it was perfect in the beginning with zero issues but up until last week it's been freezing constantly and rebooting. i've had to do three battery pulls and it's rebooted on me three times. and i thought i got lucky with a "perfect" phone i really want to try exchanging it but i'm afraid to get an even worse one and i am not paying 20 bucks to get a refurbished phone that's insane
U should flash newest weapon room, this is great room and will fix reboot bug
I used to get freezing and rebooting all the time several times a day on stock froyo but ever since I started going on nightlies since around #60 I think it was, I rarely have reboots... my wife got the phone on the same exact day and she's still on stock rom with no issues
Running stock since I got it a month ago. No reboot issues. The only freezing issues I have is when I try to use ANY screen capture app. I managed to get one of them to work...once. After that, back to freezing. So as long as I don't use any screen capture apps, I have a smooth working G2x, lol.
I got 2 g2xs. One of them got reboot issues. Called T-Mobile and got replacement and no more complaints. All is good now. Last fewweeks I got flashaholic buy. Flashing different rom every 2days.
Stock Froyo rooted. Used to get SOD freeze and reboots every week. Started daily shutdown/restarts a few months ago - never had either problem since.
My Motorola Triumph keeps randomly rebooting and the battery goes from 90% to 7% suddenly sometimes. I had the phone for a week so far and the frequence of restarts is increasing. I don't have any task killer app.
Is it some software that I am using or it's a hardware issue? Do you think I should have the phone replaced by Virgin Mobile?

Try charging it all the way and using cwm to wipe the battery stats. That should fix the battery drain. The reboots I would try wiping Dalvik, cache, and last first data if the first 2 wipes don't help at all.

I just figured out the problem has to do with wifi. When I turn it off and use 3G instead the mobile becomes stable (so far). Is anyone facing the same problem or it's just me? Is there a fix?
Does it have a custom ROM on it? I've seen around the forums that there has been issues with the MT and wifi on the ROMs

No. But the frequency of the reboots increased after I re-installed the original MT stock ROM.
When I first bough the device it restarted once or twice a day. Now it reboots non stop unless I take out the battery. I re-installed the stock ROM from another source but the problem persisted. The problem goes away when I turn off wifi abut comes back when I turn it on.
Sounds like something to do with the kernel, not the ROM... maybe. I had horrible luck with any and all custom kernels for a long while. Although that's just my luck, might not be yours...
Looks like you had a problem from the beginning... Try everything stock, and if it's still there, return it... Wow my first post in years...
I know someone who had the same problem..
switched to the iPhone 4s...
Same here...

I have this problem as well. I am going to try the CM7 mod to see if that goes away. I have also isolated it to WiFi.

Wohooooooooooooo The problem DOES go away with CM7 beta 8 !!!! It's like magic!
Phone no longer reboots randomly
Wifi is stable and does not disconnect or cause the phone to reboot or the battery to heat up
And battery life improved 300%!!! I now charge it every other day with moderate 3g/wifi usage!
I had CM7 for three weeks so far and my frustration turned into happiness! It's just amazing how changing the software makes a HUGE difference!! Before CM7 I always felt like smashing my MT because of the hard time it gave me!
I followed the instructions on: http://www.motorolatriumphhacks.com/

as far as ive seen with both cm7 and cm9, random reboots houldnt be an issue anymore, but for other still having the issue it usually comes from about 4 things over the rest
1. faulty hardware, which normally isnt the case, if faulty hardware was the issue you'd probly be seeing more then random reboots, but its still possible
2. Rom didn't take correctly during flash, either by chance, or because the phone wasent properly cleared and now settings are "head butting"
3. Running a custom rom in which you can adjust the cpu and the settings are either to low or to high, both can cause reboots
4. Most common one ive seen by far outta them all, Apps, certain apps especially after some updates will "play tricks" on the device and for some reason cause reboots sometimes, usually the next update of said app will resolve the issue but not always, so if you find an app thats the culprit you can notify that apps developer
you can always try and go back to 100% stock and see if the issue is still there but if your like me you probly hate the stock froyo by now lol
It may seem painful or whatnot but unless you find exactly what may be causing the reboots the best bet overall would be
Do a complete Fresh install of whatever rom you use, dont flash anything besides the rom and gapps if needed, also dont restore any backups yet, just to be sure
Once the fresh new rom is booted i turn the phone off then back on for safe measures lol
Now if you can lol try running the phone with No aftermarket apps besides any/if any that came on the rom, if the problem is gone you know for sure here that it was one of your apps
then 1 by 1 install your apps and give it some time in between app installs to see if the problem comes back and hopefully this way if it does youll know which app is causing troubles
FAQ
To quote directly from my FAQ,
"Reboots on Android are a pain, and can be attributed to multiple sources. I’ve been able to successfully reduce the amount of reboots that I get, but never eliminate them… Anyhow, here’s some troubleshooting information:
1. Format SD card in Windows (back up your SD card data first!) Make sure you format to FAT32. Don’t try formatting it in Linux. I have done this before and the phone wouldn’t boot up!
2. Slightly overclocking prevents some freezes.
Under Settings > Cyanogenmod Settings > Performance overclock the max speed to around 1300-1400ish. This should speed the phone up, but not to the point of the thing overheating
3. Fix SD Card permissions. Do this by booting into Recovery (You can do that if you have this ROM installed) and go to advanced > Fix SD card permissions. Now reboot.
4. Do not use Firefox, except the Nightly builds. Firefox has went through drastic speed and performance improvements recently, but the older builds, despite being called stable, are so slow, they will make the phone freeze and reboot. Yes, this includes Aurora. UPDATE: All Firefox versions except stable (ironic, eh?) have been used by me personally and have not made my phone reboot. Make sure you’re on at least version 14. (This one doesn't apply as much anymore, I need to update my FAQ!)
5. Give the phone a break from time to time. After intensive gaming for hours on end, the phone will often reboot while exiting a game.
That’s all the tips I have. I managed to drastically reduce my reboots by doing these, but not eliminate them completely. I hope g60madman or mantera find some hidden timeout value in the kernel (if one exists, like the auto reboot on BSOD in Windows) and either lengthens the timeout value or disables automatic rebooting so if this is a kernel panic, we may see the debugging details and upload them to fix some crashes.
6. Make sure that you have the VM heap size set to be adequate enough. I recommend at least 24 MB, preferably anywhere from 32 MB and up if you want the phone to last a while without rebooting.
7. Sometimes a cache wipe and dalvik cache wipe are needed to stop bootloops. Unfortunately, every once in a while, you may start getting bootloops. This usually due to some sort of corruption in the cache or dalvik cache. You can safely clear them through Clockworkmod Recovery without loosing any data, and this usually fixes the problem. If not, do a factory reset through Clockworkmod Recovery and reinstall this ROM."
Why hasn't anyone recommended this app yet? The android app fast reboot has made my phone more stable (I'm running stock 2.3.3 not rooted). With this app there is no need to restart the phone every 2-3 days, and this might be my unique experience but the phone hasn't randomly locked up since I downloaded this app.
y do u need to reboot your phone every 2-3 days in the first place?
Yeah, same question, why do you ever have to reboot your phone in 2-3 days?

I don't know about you guys, but around the third day my phone starts to feel sluggish, and a reboot seems to bring everything back to speed.

I can second that. I also remember reading somewhere a while ago that you should restart your phone atleast once a week.
ZiZi and Foible are right. It actually does good to do this to both your phone and your computer/laptop. Rebooting kind of gives it a fresh start. Clears up crap that just keeps piling up.

This has been a pain in the butt because I've missed morning alarms just to find our my phone is sitting in the bright white screen of derp. This time I need to know, is this an issue for people in general or could this be a ROM issue?
HTC M8 used the $25 unlocking tool and slapped CM 12.1 on this beast. My advanced reboot menu is OFF in developer options. There is no fastboot or whatever from the stock ROM as far as I can tell. Nothing is pressing on the screen as its just face up on the ground. What can I do, what should I try?
EDIT (8/28/15): After trying a sense based rom the issue went away. Just followed the advice given below

Does this happen every night?
If it occurs often.. I would honestly just try flashing a Sense ROM for a few days and see what happens. At least you will know in a few days instead of pulling your hair out.
If it still reboots in Sense, probably a hardware problem
If it doesn't reboot anymore, probably a software glitch in CM
So after wondering "maybe the USB cable plugged into my wall charger causes it to somehow go to fastboot mode"... I just had a reboot at work. Had a youtube video open, I hit pause and turned off the screen, and slid the phone into my pocket. No sound, no vib no indications, 5 minutes later I check and find out that its in fastboot mode. So its not from the USB.
I'll try to install a Sense 7 ROM and see how that goes. Very frustrating.
The only other issue I have is GPS not updating quickly enough, it only catches my location approximately and only if WiFi is enabled even if its not connected...
I've only had issues with a bad boot.img, but i couldn't boot the ROM at all. I would try a different ROM & see if that is the issue

Did you install the right GAPPS package for that CM?
Did you fac reset before new OS install?
Fastboot was an option with KK, it is not an option with lollipop.
I use CleanRom 4.0 which is 5.0.1 based, no issues. Sense 6 based. Does not need GAPPS. If your gonna tryout other ROMs, I would try CR 4 for the M8. If it does not reboot auto like then maybe its the CM ver you used or maybe it did not load right. I like CR because it has been cleaned of all carrier software. Has only what you need to function as a phone and mini surf machine, lets you do the customization.
Hope you solve it.

I'm on Candy ROM which I believe is based off 5.1.1 CM12.1. I flashed GAPPS only after the installation and did a full wipe beforehand. After sticking with a N6 so long I don't really like the Sense layout anymore.
The method I used as per CleanRom guide.
Get 2.8.5 TWRP installed, a must for lollipop.
Make a nandroid backup.
Get firmware for Android 5 installed, carrier dependent!
Factory reset from bootloader
Install Sense or AOSP rom android 5.x.x.
if Sense based your done, if AOSP based install GAPPS ver for your OS/rom
Installing lollipop without right FW could cause issues.
Installing FW can brick your device! so be sure its right one, and make sure you get a nandroid backup stored on your added sd card. More importantly do not just take my word, double and triple check all steps before you leap.
I'll be honest I haven't really tried anything because I don't want to go through the hassle of installing and using other ROMs. Mainly because I think it's hard, even though I know it isn't :silly:
I've been just kinda dealing with the occasional random fastboot reboots. Same thing I have to press reboot twice to reboot the phone, and it happens both when plugged in and charging and when just sitting idle in my pocket. But it's never happened while I was using the phone.

Flash another ROM, or reflash CM. Make sure you wipe first. It was probably a bad flash and something is bonked. It'll take you less than 30 mins. I bet that'll take care of your issue. Good luck.
After many months now of using a sense based rom I've yet to run into the fastboot reset problem. I'm going to switch back to CM this weekend and see where it takes me.
