[Q] How to get rid of voice message notification? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I access my voice mail it says I don't have any voice message but voice mail notification won't disappear from notification bar.. help me please!

Could anyone help me out?

easy fix. This is an initial bug with the nexus s and android 2.3.
Just have someone (or yourself on another phone) leave you a voicemail message, check your voicemail on your nexus s, delete the message, and the icon will go away shortly after that.
Hope this helps.
P.S.

I had this happen to me a couple of times when I first got the NS. Then I downloaded the T-Mobile Visual Voice app from the market, and no problems since.

Could you delete that visual voice app afterwards? I'm currently using GV. I deactivated and followed the instruction on other XDA thread but it didn't work for me.

Uninstalled Visual Voicemail - How do I renable the Message Waiting Indicator?

I uninstalled the Sprint Visual Voicemail because i'm on a rooted Cell South hero. However it appears my MWI icon is disabled. Does anyone know of a way to re-enable?

How did you uninstall the voicemail? I would like to do this as well, but I don't know what it is called. Do you know the name of the .apk/.odex?
Thanks.
Would you happen to have a copy of the visual voicemail??
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581846&page=13
Post #125 has the link to the Voicemail app. Just throw it onto your SD card and run AppInstaller. Worked perfect for me when I accidentally lost my Voicemail on my Sprint Hero.
I'm not sure about uninstalling it, but i would assume its the same filename, so in your CMD window, you could rm it...? I don't know for sure since i didn't uninstall mine, just seemed to have gone missing.

Did you ever find the answer. I have the same issue with my EVO.
Why don't you try using Google Voice for voicemail, it will give a notification.

You can't just go sign up for an account. He'd have to wait like a month for an invite.
I have Google Voice, but it's doesn't have visual voicemail. And the android app does not allow you to have multiple accounts.
I am having a issue were when people leave me a voicemail, I don't receive a notification at all, I only know I have a voicemail message if I call my number. The only way people can reply to me through VVM is if I send them a VVM.
I also have a touch pro 2 with XAndroid and have VVM installed on it, and when I try to send the [email protected] text message I get //Androidrovisioning: unsuccessful
Anyway to get past this provisioning from sprint?

It is Sprint_VM.apk It does not work on Gingerbread yet.

You can push the Sprint_VM.apk to /system/app folder using adb and it works as long as you are not on Gingerbread. If you don't know adb you can to to www.geekfor.me and use the Kitchen tool.

Why can't I get voicemail working?

I really want to set up visual voicemail with Google Voice. I can't seem to figure it out though. Can anyone post a step by step guide? Right now, when someone calls me after 4 rings they get a message saying the person you has called is unavailable. There isn't even an option to leave a message. I don't know what I did wrong.
On another note, does anyone have any experience with At&t visual voicemail? Is it worth exploring that option over google voice?
This is one feature that I really would love to have on this otherwise perfect phone.
Your plan has to include visual voicemail if it doesn't then it doesn't matter how hard you try you will not get it setup. call And tell them you want visual voicemail and the tech will push the app to your phone and then it'll set up.

go to voice.google.com
settings
phones ->activate voicemail
on your phone:
settings ->call -> voicemail -> set as google voice. it will fail, but just say yes anyways. it should work after that. (it does on my phone)
Thank you. I hope that works. This problem was present even before I updated though.

it's a known "problem" but I haven't had any issues with it other then it "failing" (see attached screenshot) to apply (but still works even with this message)
there are some other threads on this forum regarding this. you might have been able to find them if you had looked (harder).
anyways, since i'm here, i may as well post what worked for me
go to settings, call, additional settings, and set EVERY forwarding number (unanswered, busy, etc) to your google voice number. But **make sure Always Forward is disabled**
cheers
Lol... Just re-read the OP..my bad I thought I read that you wanted att vvm. Sorry. I know I looked like a dumbass..lol disregard my post and carry on.

and you followed the instructions at voice.google.com by typing in that long number that starts with *004*.... ?
and are you having someone test call you to see if it does go to your google voice mailbox? again, your phone will show (after doing all the appropriate steps) that "Voicemail Service: My Carrier" but it will truly get forwarded to google voice... at least it does on my setup.
also, if this doesn't work, have you tried AT&T's version of visual voicemail? it's free with LTE data plan I believe.
Send yourself a voicemail it'll come up on the Google Voice client IF you followed the instructions here.
I've found it's less cumbersome on a pc to set it up.

Finally solved the problem by getting a new google voice number. I guess something was wrong with the old one. Thanks for all your help, folks.
Yep, Google Voice is the ONLY voicemail for Android I would consider.

Sprint voicemail issues

Hi all,
Have any fellow Sprint users figured out how to get voicemail to work properly on this phone? I can dial 1 to check it if course, but I don't get any kind of notification when someone leaves a voicemail for me. I'm also getting those annoying 9016 and 8737 texts all the time. I tried pulling the Sprint Voicemail APK from my GS4 and pushing it to the system/app folder on my N5, but it still doesn't give me any notifications.
Anyway, does someone have a fix for this? I'd prefer not to call Sprint if I don't have to. Thanks!
Im on Sprint, and I don't have this issue. What ROM are you running? I used to get those annoying 9016 texts, two phones ago, when I ran aosp Roms on my old evo

Unfortunately, i haven't seen any progress on the sprint voice mail app. You can either integrate your sprint number with Google voice to handle all voice mails or
If you want to keep separate numbers, forward missed and busy calls to your Google voice number (*28 Google number) and set Google voice to "do not disturb" so it goes straight to voice mail.

I'm just running the stock rom. Do you get notifications when you have a voicemail? The texts are annoying, but my main concern is being notified when I have a message.
So far I have.

There are a few few threads about this. None have any resolution aside from use GV.
I cannot use GV and I do (did) get the 9016 without any other notifications. I now use PF Voicemail+. It's pretty close the Sprint VVM app we're used to. It took a little bit to set up but it seems to work. I now get push notifications and email when I get voicemail.
Still wish Sprint would allow the N5 on the VVM service.
I have the N5 on Sprint and after posting on their forms I can tell you that I don't think Sprint is going to give us a Stand Alone VMM app. I have installed Google Voice on 2 different N5's with Sprint and set it up to handle just the Voicemail and it works perfect on both phones. I have seen other threads with people getting the 9016 text. Before I set up Google Voice, whenever someone left me a Voicemail I got the notification to call, but never the 9016 so I don't have any advice for you there.

Google Voice Help & Text Notification

I cant seem to get my google voice to setup right on this phone. If anyone has successfully done this please let me know how you did it. Second problem is Im using the stock messaging app and every time I receive a text my phone screen turns on, is there a way to disable this feature?

I'm using GV. I had issues trying to get it to work at first. I tried a few things to get it working. First I just changed the section in call forwarding to my GV number. Seemed to work ok. But if I remember correctly To get it actually working I had to go to my google voice account on computer and go to settings. Then select deactivate google voice on this phone. It then gave me the code to type into my phone. Then I went back and hit activate my google voice number. Again it gave me the code to enter on my phone. After that I just went through install and setup for GV app on my phone.
The deactivating and the re-activating did the trick.

Awesome! Glad you got it working.
Or, if you switched carriers (and opted for a new number) like me, you can just disable the old number. I forgot to deactivate the old number before shutting off service to the phone.

Visual voicemail (Verizon)

I was curious if anyone else with Verizon had a problem in the stock phone app not being able to read your visual voicemail. After I get a voicemail the only time I can read it it's for a few seconds when I get the notification at the top of the phone. When you go into open the app all you can do is listen to them. I tried a bunch of different Google dialers which worked but no voicemail works with any of them.

I kind of got it working on the havoc ROM. Every now and then it says starting visual voicemail. But it's working
I am stock. Visual Voicemail has worked with my Verizon sim since day one for me.
Wth is visual voicemail? My first real smartphone
Visual Voicemail from Verizon essentially lists the voicemails you have on your account. It will typically list them in the dialer you are using. Instead of having to dial out and check your messages, you can simply click on it in the list. You can manage them that way too. One step further is having Visual Voicemail to Text which has the actual message transcribed into the feed so that you can read it versus listening to it.
I prefer using Google voice for vm you free transcripts texted to you
I think OP is talking about voicemail to text as I was having the same exact issue. It is really annoying. Especially when you have to pay $2.99/mo for the transcription.
Sent from my SM-G977U using Tapatalk
Anyone else, same thing happens to me. The notification has the transcript so I know it's "somewhere" but can't ever see it.
This is actually comprised of two underlying issues.... see my breakdown here:
