Hi Guys,
I need help - But that aside for a moment...
I've been trying to modify a clock so that I have a just the basic marks and maybe a white ring... However, it appears that my GIMP 2.6 skills are nothing...
Most things I've managed to modify by myself, but this has got the better of me. So here I am seeking the skills of an artist. Please if you can it would be much appreciated.....
I'm using Co0kie's Home tab 1.8.
Thanks again
Sorry for my English.
No Takers?
...a picture says more than a thousand words...
No screenshot and/or pic of the clock you need transparent?
Are you after a specific clock to be modified, or just requesting any clock that roughly fits that description??
I done one which is mainly transparent, see attached .zip file with the manila files in it.
The image below is what it looks like (but I have now removed the original pin in the middle so you will not see it like you can in the picture).
Co0kie introduced widgets in CHT 2.0. This is a very powerful instrument for all kind of addons. Of course I looked at first at the clocks and the new possibilites in the development phase. These three widgets are the first result. Enjoy.

EDIT[09/01/2011]:
This regulator clock is my last clock widget for the next time. The pendulum is working and the weight shows the battery state of your device. You can download it in this post.

EDIT[08/01/2011]: Reworked some of my old clocks and corrected a glitch in the transparent clock for day/night switching version .
EDIT[14/12/2010]: In post 3 you can find the English version of Greg's German Read Clock.
EDIT[28/11/2010]: Now the widget for the Transparency clock is also finished. It has all the variants you see below (including switching visibility). You can find it here.
EDIT[24/11/2010]: A short tutorial for making of analog clock widgets ist added in post 2.
EDIT[30/09/2010]: Both the NOMOS Tangente and Ludwig show the second hand everytime. That is the behaviour in the real clock and it solved a problem with the non functioning minute hand. The star display is now working in 12h AMPM mode.
EDIT[29/09/2010]: The Home clock v2 has two layouts - with and without AMPM. But only if you use AMPM generally. Because the clock changes only every minute the switch happens at the full minute.

Home time clock
It is a simple clock without second hand. It is wired to the time of the first town (without "my location") in the world clock. If you set your home town in this position and use the "my location" service at travelling you have a second clock that shows your home time everywhere. The clock has AMPM and switches the colours like the little flip clocks at the world clock at 6 PM and 6 AM. In the screenshot the current time is 15:13 in New York and the home time is 21:13 in Berlin.
Don't wonder. The clock images are 256x256 but the real images are only 2/3 with enhanced numerals. So the clock can be made smaller.
EDIT: The v2 has two layouts - with and without AMPM. But only if you use AMPM generally. Because the clock changes only every minute the switch happens at the full minute.
EDIT: Warning! This clock is only working when there is at least one city in the city list. Else Manila crashes after some time. I'll look into the code.

NOMOS Tangente
In the next widget I played with layouts. This is a Tangente clock by NOMOS Glashütte (which generously gave me permission for posting their clocks). Glashütte is a little town in Saxony, Germany, that has a long tradition as home for famous clock makers. At present there are different firms in Glashütte, most known are Glashütte Original, Lange&Söhne and NOMOS. NOMOS has a unique style for their clocks, the so called "Bauhaus" design. You can see this design in architecture, furnitures and several other fields - here in this wonderful simple and stylish clocks. In the picture you can see three "complications" - date, home time and a star display. These are all from different real clocks. But that's the benefit of the digital world - you can get these all together.
Date is clear. Home (world) time is a new concept which is still in the developing state. It shows the home time with a 24h display on the right side. In the original clock there is also a display for the time zone. I used this place for the date, because it isn't necessary for the HD2. The home time is wired to the first town in the world clock list (like in the upper widget). The star display is from their Tangente Sternwarte (observatory) clock. It shows simply a little star on a disk which rotates every 24 hours. So it is seen between 6 PM and 6 AM. Edit: I noticed a problem with AMPM use. Correction is happend.
EDIT: Warning! This clock is only working when there is at least one city in the city list. Else Manila crashes after some time. I'll look into the code.
Every complication can be hidden ore shown. You have 8 layouts.

Reworked Clocks
For all who liked TicTac's and my special clocks I reworked some of them
LümTec M24
This clock has six layers: original daylight , original MaxLume, original switching version, and the same for the transparent design.
Golden clock
Three layers: Clock with separate second hand, with separate second hand and moonphase and with tourbillon and moonphase. Like I said the tourbillon is a power consuming process. The other two versions are not so heavy, but if you switch between the layers changes don't happen until the full minute.
Carbon clock with tourbillon
Three layers: day version, night version, switching version. The switch happens at 6:00 PM and AM. I didn't find a method for switching off the lua script automatically after deactivating the widget. So you should restart Sense for this. That will do the trick.
Carbon clock
This clock has 7 layers: day version, night version, switching version for separate and central second hand and the 2nd time clock.

Regulator Clock
For the background of the regulator clock you can read the Wikipedia article. The pendulum of this clock is working and the weight shows the battery state of your device. Because of its design the dimensions of the clock face are shrinked; the whole size is 192x640 pixel. The pendulum swing in the script is made with 10 steps per second. So the power consume is not so heavy as in the tourbillon clocks, but more than in the standard clocks. Beacuse at the full minute many processes are updated it happens sometimes that the pendulum is in "slow motion". Sorry can't change that.
The clock has three layers as you can see. In the Zip are the workspace, the cab and the image/image manila files. So enjoy.

Guide for clock widgets
This is a little guide for clock widgets:
Read at first the widget development guide by Cokie (it's in the below mentioned kitchen) !!!
Step 1 manila hash names
1. Download the kitchen for the analog clock widget by cookie and make a temp folder in there. Copy the files for your analog clock in this folder (best if you have already a working clock for CHT 1.8.5). Save the pictures out of the qtc manila files as png in this folder (this is only useful for oversight). Rename the whole widget with your widget name.
2. Make a list with new names for your text and image objects with manilaHASH.
- the names should be unique. I use my name and a widget number as prefix, f.e. rat_w001_secondHand
- determine the manila hash name. For this use the line
\windows\htc\home\assets\images\Home\VGA\Your_Name.qtc
Save this list. You need it all the time for oversight.
3. Rename your images in the temp directory with the new manila names (this is only useful for oversight); then rename also your manila image files with these names.
4. Delete all files in the workspace\qtc directory and copy your new manila files into this (but not the old 1E1A6CCD_manila and 1EC5924B_manila)
Step 2 mode9 file.
5. Open the mode9 file in the workspace directory. Go in the library to the StandaloneAnalogclockGroup. There are the image and text objects for the clock.
6. If you have more objects in your old 1E1A6CCD_manila file for your analog clock add these objects in the group.
7. Then substitute
- for all objects the Instance value with your new name (f.e. rat_w001_secondHand),
- for the image objects the Texture path with the (here shortend) string that you used for the manila hash name (f.e. .\Assets\Images\Home\VGA\rat_w001_secondHand.qtc)
- for the text objects the String value to the variable used in the lua file (f.e. rat_w001_weekday). If you want to use AMPM like in the normal clock, don't change this value.
8. Change the name of the StandaloneAnalogClockGroup to a unique name (that is used later in the lua files, f.e. rat_w001_ClockGroup)
9. Change the name of the StandaloneAnalogClockAnimationLayer to a unique name (that is used later in the lua files, f.e. rat_w001_ClockAnimationLayer)
10. Save the file.
Now to the lua files.
Step 3 CHTWidgetDev
Substitute all uses of wAnalogClock2 with a unique name (f.e. w_rat_w001_Clock). You can do this in Notepad2 with the Edit/Replace function.
Then substitute in line 69 StandaloneAnalogClockAnimationLayer with the new unique name you used in the mode9 file for the animation layer (f.e. rat_w001_ClockAnimationLayer).
Do the same in line 74, 135, 136, 191, 195 and 212 for all uses of StandaloneAnalogClock (f.e. rat_w001_Clock)
Replace the string in line 28 with the name of your widget (f.e. "rat_w001_clock").
In the next line insert the string that is shown for the widget in the home layout (f.e. "my analog clock").
For an analog clock you don't need to change the next item (""Clock").
In line 70, 135 and 136 is the image object for touching mentioned. You have to substitute "SACFace" with your image object (at best the greatest, f.e. rat_w001_clockface)
The last part is line 73 and 74. In line 73 you have to substitute "Co0kieAnalogClock2" with the name of your special lua script (f.e. rat_w001_clock).
Line 74 is the bridge to your lua script. Here are the arguments of the ClockClass defined that are used in the StandaloneAnalogClockClass.__init function in your special lua file. Of course the name of the function is later also to be changed.
In the example it is:
rat_w001_Clock = rat_w001_ClockClass(rat_w001_ClockGroup, rat_w001_clockface, rat_w001_minuteHand, rat_w001_hourHand, rat_w001_secondHand)
Step 4 special lua file
For naming use the lua script file name you used in the CHTWidgetDev.lua file (rat_w001_clock)
In the first (commentary) line change the location with the new name instead of Co0kieAnalogClock2 and use the manilaHash app with this string:
\windows\htc\home\scripts\home\your_widget_name.luac
Then substitute also the manila name (f.e. -- File name: 1F2E1A7D_manila --\windows\htc\home\scripts\home\rat_w001_Clock.luac)
Substitute all uses of StandaloneAnalogClock with your name (rat_w001_Clock)
Change all uses of SACShowAMPM to your name (rat_w001_ShowAMPM).
That would be all if you only want to make a normal analog clock widget, but if you want to change more you have to go to the central function for the behaviour. For this you have to look in this two functions (these are the old Co0kie names):
StandaloneAnalogClockClass.UpdateTime = function(self)
StandaloneAnalogClockClass.UpdateSecondHand = function(self)
Here the update interval and the rotation of the hands is defined. In Co0kies clock it is pretty simple. If you want to add more functions here is the place. The names of the standard arguments clockGroup, clockFace, minHand, hourHand and secondHand should be unchanged in the whole file. For every other variable and object use your special unique name.
Of course you can add other functions in their own place. You find examples for this in my clock thread.
Now it is testing, testing, testing.
Step 5 bat.files
In the kitchen there are these two files
_Deploy_to_device_in_dev_mode.bat
_Generate_files_for_cab.bat
for handling in the development process.
Here you have to substitute in both files in the second luatool line 35E966AF_manila ..\Workspace\_lua\Co0kieAnalogClock2.lua
with your new widget name and its manila hash name. (in the example: 4C0089BA_manila ..\Workspace\_lua\rat_w001_Clock.lua)
Step 6 CHTS file
Rename the file in the CHTS with your new widget name (f.e. CHTWidget_rat_w001_Clock.xml).
Open the file with the windows editor.
Take your list with the manila hash names and substitute the objects with your new names and the manila names.
For the third line use your widget name and in the fourth line ("description") the string you used in the CHTWidgetDev.lua for the home layout description.
GregReadClock English
This is the English version of the GregReadClock. The German version was published here by greg17477. The original design comes from the famous QlockTwo.
I made a standalone version because people will use only one language and not switch everytime. It is basically Greg's pictures and lua scripts with modificated positions and adapted English time notifications. Greg's work was exceptional and I learned much about texture using in modificating . This version has the same features as Greg's German version:
"readClock,
has 4 layouts:
black - standard scalability
white - standard scalability
black - horizontal scalability ( height doesnt change)
white - horizontal scalability ( height doesnt change)
if you need the exact time (exact minute), there are four dots around the clock, one or every minute 1 dot means + 1 minute, 2 dots + 2 minutes..."
The zip contains the widget workspace for all who are interested in looking deeper into the widget. For all I also attached Gregs original German version slightly modificated with nonCFC pictures by mike2nl.
Hi rat_2665, is it possible to hide the AM/PM in your Home time clock? When I set it to 24-hour format, it is OK? However, in the country that I travelled, it uses 12-hour format, once it is set to 12-hour, the AMPM appears. Can you help? Thank you.
It will be good if long secondhand, date, day, moonphase and Tourbillon are available in similar manner as NOMOS Tangente which are selectable . Thank you.

Yes, you can set 24h. But that's the beaty of the new widget design. I'll make a version where you can hide or show AMPM.
I'm still thinking about my tourbillon clocks. The tourbillon is a very power using process. At my current design the scripts for all parts are working - hidden or not. That's not a problem with the complications I used in the widgets. But I have still to look into stopping a process when you set the layout of the widget.

Hi,
the "home" clock is realy great - that´s what I was looking for!!!
Many thanks.
If you have time than maybe you can add also a simple digital clock version. If you could add the city name to the clock would also great and last but not least the possibility to choose the city position would be alos great in order to have more than 1 clock and time zones available.
Could a choose 1 widget with different parameters several times? Or do I have to install the same widget twice or triple in order to be able to select it several times?
Best regards,
dingolino

Do you mean the digital clock by co0kie or a digital flip clock? I haven't done digital clocks yet. I will look into it when I have time.
The name of the city is no problem.
You can use the same widget with different parameters on different screens (screen is in Co0kie's definition when you scroll up and down; left and right scrolling are "pages"). But you can't use the same widget twice in the same screen. For this you have to make a new widget (f.e. one for the second position in the world clock list and so on).
The workaround for the city position is the change in the worldclock list. Co0kie has a function for setting the clock time zone to a specific city but I haven't tried it yet.

I think the digital flip clock - I haven´t tried Co0kies yet. But basicaly just a simple digital clock which is not taking to much space and leaves room for the city name AND if if possible the time shift based on the 1st clock from the list. Home town is Berlin (1st clock in the list), than 2nd is New York with -6h, 3rd is Beijing with +6h for example
I would like to have several clocks on 1 page to have a look on different time zones at once.
Example: Traveling in Asia and need to call back home to Europe or to the US. If you are traveling for a while in different time zones you are realy messing up with it ...
In the US for example:
Starting at the east coast -6h, going to Chicago -7h, and flying out to Phoenix -9h
This is now only 1 direction but if you are every day in a different time zone and flipping back and forth a overview is helpful.
>(f.e. one for the second position in the world clock list and so on).
or could it be 1 widget which is filling 1 screen with a number of clocks related to the position in the world clock list? A widget with maybe 8 clocks (selectable if possible) for the 1st 8 world clocks? ("8" is only a assumption could be any max number which is making sense)
Best regards,

I uploaded my digital clock widget, mClock. I plan on adding more styles and/or options. Let me know what you think, what you would like to see as far as options go and whatever else.
I've attached the QR code and screenshots.
For the fonts in the screenshot I just grabbed some off the web and put them on the sdcard.
Fonts: 1979, Acens, Colwell, Orbitron-Medium, and the built in fonts.

Looks great so far!
I have some suggestions though,
First of all, I really want a real 24 hour clock instead of the 12 hour clock available.
4x2 widget would be awesome.
Perhaps custom date formatting, for example, I cannot currently do "Sunday, November 7". The default android formatting options would be nice i.e "EEEE, EEE, HHHH, MMMM, d and so on."
Perhaps click to open application..
Maybe shadow options?
Larger font size than 100px? I currently use 128px which perfectly fits my screen from side to side.
Separating different lines would be awesome, for example, I might want month and day number on one row and weekday on another.
24 hr clock: I have the code almost ready for that
4x2 widget: Easy to add
Date format: Sunday, November 7 is already supported. You can turn off the year portion on any of the date formats and change the separator to ,(Space).
Click to open app: I've been thinking of a good way to handle this. I also need to allow clicking to open the options page. I've thought about dividing the clickable area to allow different launch options. If you have a good idea I'm all ears.
Shadow options: The blur effect overwrites the shadow. I haven't figured out a way to get both to work. I may settle for toggling between shadow or blur. But I did have the shadow working on a test build so it's doable.
Larger fonts: Easy to change
Different lines: That's where the different styles/formats come into play. Those take a bit more work but I do plan on providing that sort of thing.
Update to 1.3. Includes 24 hr clock, 4x2 widget and increased font max size
Exellent app mate! Congratulations! I m using it whole evening! So good, so far! I have no further wishes about this app! Loving it!
About the click to open app, why not a application in the launcher for the settings?
24 hour clock option should disable AM/PM automatically?
Still not seeing 4x2 widget?
I like shadow because it can act as both solid blur, shadow and the color is configurable.
Blur seems cut off at top and bottom at big font sizes?
I know it's a hassle for almost no difference but perhaps render it as text instead of a bitmap?
I know I sound whiny but this app has so great potential and is already better than the rest of the clocks, simply awesome work. Love it.
New update fixes the 4x2 issue. I forgot to add it to the manifest file... Also I disable the am/pm if 24 hour mode is on.
As for the shadow, I'll work on it next. Hopefully should have it ready tomorrow night. I have code already that allows you to select the shadow color, x & y offset and the shadow size. It should just be a matter of getting it all in shape and tested.
For the app launch. Do you mean put a item in the configure screen that will launch the app?
The blur getting cut off is a side effect of the clipping, I have an idea of how to solve that but I'm going to delay the fix for now.
I don't mind the suggestions, I like to know what can be improved.
Seems the update service crashes(or simply doesn't start) a lot on 1.3.1 with the 4x2 size?
Text won't fill the 4x2 widget correctly, fonts seem limited to a too small size(only 24 hour clock, won't fit width)?
Another suggestion of mine, 24 hour clocks usually display a leading zero when the hour is a single digit?
What I meant with app launch was to have a normal app (the ones that show up in your app drawer ^^) for configuration and launch custom apps with the widget.
Right now I have no clue why 4x2 doesn't work. It works on the emu but not on the device. The other sizes seem fine though. I'll look into it tomorrow.
Very cool looking digital clock widget! Great design.
My new favorite clock app !
What I really like about it is the way you can change colors.. gradient is a nice option.
Nice work mate !
Upload the APK please
Could you please attach the APK file here for the comfort of downloading?
It would be a great help.
Thanks
Arindam
Added the apk file to the original post.
New release now has shadows, more layout options, another clock format and some bug fixes. However I wasn't able to figure out the 4x2 widget issue so it's disabled for now.
looking awesome.
Good luck on the 4x2 widget.
Figured out the 4x2 issue. Still trying to get a good design on handling the app launch feature. One problem is you can have multiple widgets so if I disable the tap to config then you'll have to delete and re-add to change options. One idea is to have a popup that you either choose the app or the config, not as great as just tap to launch.
Awesome...The best clock widget till date...works great on my xperia x10.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
The clock seems kinda small, seems there is a lot of space to spare. See screenshot, bottom is the size I would want(Self-made clock widget), top is current size.
Awesome update man, 1.5 is simply awesome.
There's something "wrong" with the 1.5 version (market update)..
I've downloaded and installed your attached 1.4.1 file in first post just to be sure my eyes were ok..
When I set clock colours (white 100% and white 50%), the gradient is not as smooth as it used to be on 1.4.1
For the size not being as large as you want, try bumping up the font size and turning off clipping. Set the date's vertical alignment to bottom and the clock's to top. That should give you what you're looking for. And if the font size is maxed let me know and I'll increase it.
For the gradient issue. I know exactly what why it happens. I could go into tech details but basically to get the 4x2 working I had to reduce the rgba depth. I'll go back and increase it for all the smaller sizes.
Yeah, font size was maxed out. Perhaps make that setting a text input, shouldn't have any limits and be precise enough then.
Hey knoxcoder, I LOVE your widget, but as Poodlemastah points out, there's this major drawback of not being able to launch our app of choice when tapping it. This is a must have for all clock widgets.
Most of us like to set our alarms by just tapping on the clock widget, and right now I find myself using TWO clock widgets because of this... yours because it's the best looking, and another one in the adjacent home screen just to launch the alarms app... lol.
Even if it means having to re-add the widget once you add this feature, I still think it will be worth it in the long term... it's just a must-have for most people.
As Poodlemastah has suggested, I think the behaviour most of us would expect is:
Both the "add -> widget" option from the home screen and the icon in the app drawer will take us to the config screen. There, we can set all the parameters as we want them (including which app to launch).
Now, as you've said, there can be multiple instances of the widget, so maybe the ideal setup would be being able to "save" different clock configs from the settings menu (without necessarily applying them to any instance), then choosing which one of them to apply at the moment we add the widget to a homescreen. That way, it wouldn't be such a hassle to re-add them everytime, because the config would be saved.
It would be a matter of making the user conscious of this change by just re-arranging the settings menu: when we open it, it shows the options "Create new clock...", "Edit existing clock...", etc. That way, they would realize each clock is saved independently, and they would be asked for a name first of all, so that they would actually remember what it was called when they want to load it up.
Example:
· I open mClock settings
· I'm presented with 3 options: "Add existing clock to home screen"; "Create new clock..."; "Edit/delete existing clocks...".
· I choose "Create new clock..."
· I'm asked for a name, I name it "My clock".
· I'm then presented with the clock settings screen, which I procceed to adjust to my liking.
· At the bottom, I see 2 buttons: "Save" and "Cancel". I click "Save".
· After that, I'm taken back to the settings screen.
· I now choose "Add existing clock to home screen".
· I'm presented with a list of the existing clocks already created.
· I choose "My clock".
· The clock is added to a home screen (the central one, I guess?), and I'm automatically taken there to see it.
Another way to add a clock would be to go to a home screen, choose the "add widget" option in the launcher, and choose "mClock", in which case I would be taken to the same settings menu as before. The only difference would be that the clock would get added to the same screen from which I called the "add widget" option.
I don't know if this would be such a big hassle to make, or if it's impossible at all, since I haven't done any Android development yet. I'm only talking from a usual programmer and UI designer point of view
Let me know what you think.
Hi all.... is it hard to make a simple TEXT WIDGET for CHT 2 ?
customizable font size and type...and to be able to put a different text widget on each page.
something like putting titles to each page like in windows phone 7
Good idea.
I'm looking for a new clock widget... preferably something simple(shouldn't take up half the screen, Would also prefer something transparent)
so far i've tried...
- Clockr
- Beautifal widgets (but if you know any decent skins I can try let me know ?)
- 'Digitial Clock'
- SiMi Clock
- LED Clock
- mClock (though if you have a good set up please pm me your xml ^^)
- Tajm
If you know anymore good ones please let me know so I can try them out ^^
What kind of mClock skin are you looking for? I've seen some that are pretty basic not to mention you can use a smaller widget size and then set it up how you want in the menu.
